'I am discomforted by your attitude to the massacre', LBC guest 'refuses' to condemn Hamas

- Shelagh Fogarty presses Samir Eskanda, a British-Palestinian artist who signed the open letter decrying Israel's 'war crimes', on why he seemingly refuses to condemn Hamas' attack as well.
The open letter, signed by the likes of Steve Coogan and Tilda Swinton, called for a ceasefire in Gaza but failed to mention terror attacks.

Really! No letter criticising Hamas, but once Israel desires to respond, out comes the poison pen.
She is fighting to find words of support for one side only.
Exactly!
It's so obvious which side she is on. She completely blanked to look at the suffering the Palestinians have faces for the past 7 decades & she only wants to look at what happened in October 2023!! Unbelievable, what an awful interviewer with clear agenda!
@@bearani1450 The same as Piers Morgan interviews.
She is asking quite simply if he condems the slaughter of civilians which started this war and he quite obviously won't because in truth he feels the slaughter of those civilians was justified. It can never be justified. Hamas are a soon to be extinct disgusting terrorist rabble.
She didn’t expect this eloquent and factual response from the guest. Interrupting him when he’s answering her questions!
Shame on all of of these sheep in the media. If they actually believed what they were spewing they wouldn’t regurgitate the same nonsense
The point Sheila made about you can’t colonise places your people have a connection to lol, therefore Putin’s war in Ukraine is justified.
I know a woman who converted to Judaism because her fiancee was Jewish, his mother was also a convert. You are considered Jewish if your mother is Jewish. She could move to Israel tomorrow with her family and have more rights than a Palestinian born there who's family had been there for generations. The whole thing about Israel belonging to Jews because some used to live in the area is absurd
This lady really has a point she wants to push. She has an agenda which echoes that of western media. You are a sad lady, its so discomforting. Well done to the guest, you handled her questions well. ❤❤
...it's a disgrace :(
Yet, her point is that even if the Palestinians have the right to fight their opressors, that does not give them the right to fight the way Hamas chose to fight.
The rules of war also apply to the nation that is being opressed.
It would have taken nothing away from his argument, only clarified it !
The interviewer may have had something else in mind, but if he dont aknowledge the principle, he is infact implicitly condoning the action taken by Hamas, thereby losing credibillity, undermining his own argument !
@@realitymatters8720 ...it's the way Israel has been 'fighting' for 75 years ...and before against the British ...they are proud of being the first terrorists ...and their subsequent governments were manned by them ...the interviewee not acknowledging the situation re. He's intelligent, articulate, calm and certainly gave her a lesson.
“Whose colonising who?” Are you serious!?
Shelagh doesnt note the big picture just the one incident in isolation. The guest was putting it into context which she Didn't want to acknowledge.
A lot of commentators seem to carry on like the conflict only started on October 7th.
She just wants him to admit October the 7th was a war crime, which he won’t explicitly do. The whole thing is bizarre
@@andyrees4076perhaps it’s because those defending it seem to think the shooting and be heading of children is justified.
Yes it was a war crime by a militant group but that doesn't justify a collective punishment for Palestinians. That's what Israel which is a recognized democracy in the region is doing and it's sickening that almost all western media is propagating defense for that. Hamas committed a war crime. Israel is coming war crimes.
Follow the money - look at who owns Global Media, under which LBC sits. Then you'll have some context into why LBC presenters are trying to ignore discussions about anything pre October 7th.
The interviewer should really know more about what she is talking about. Regardless of your opinion "who's oppressing who?"" is an incredible question to ask 👀
If people ask me whose side are you on I will simply say I am on the side of innocent civilians who want to live in peace. And that is that.
Lets just see.... does Shelagh condemn the attacks by Israeli settles in the West Bank?
What attacks by Israeli settlers in the West Bank? Please tell us about the rapes, the baby beheading, the children being burned alive, the pregnant women having their unborn babies cut out of their stomachs while still alive. I must have missed all that in the news.

Kudos to this young man who remained calm in constant triggering attempt by Sheilagh...well done young man for showing restraint towards typical LBC PRESENTER FOX NEWS-LIKE triggering tactics
Where is the condemnation of Israel?
Let me get this straight. So the LBC presenter is basically saying this: a person comes inside your home, you defend your family and home by attacking the invader. Police then come and tell you that they will only investigate from the point of who attacked who first lol.
And the reason why the rather not go too far in history (the root cause of it all) is simply because it will just expose the key role Britain and America played.
Apples for apples if you want to argue fairly...
if the person defended their entire family by attacking the invader
and when the police came they had found a very thoughtful and lengthy process had been perpetrated in that act of 'defence
If they had been slicing open the intruders skin hundreeds of times with a razor
packing the wound with chilipowper and sealing the wounds again...
Then I'm sure as anything the focus of the investigation would be the pointed brutality of the singular most recent act before them. If they investigated the former acts done by the intruder ahead of the chili powder skin slicing everybody would be in uproar and you know it.
You may very well argue the acts of history
But if you want to call apples for apples... you're idiotic examples are weak and you should acknowledge that

@@sadako24 Hamas’ attack was abhorrent and to my mind is rightly condemned by the western media as terrorist in nature, but Israel’s continued rocket attacks and switching off Palestians’ supplies, killing thousands of civilians, is framed as justifiable defence. He avoided condemning Hamas - why is it so hard to do so.
Over the past couple of weeks, I've listened to countless interviews with people who are sympathetic to the Palestinians which have degenerated into the interviewee being badgered into stating with absolute clarity that they condemn the attack on Israel. Even those who have complied have often then been required to do so a few more times during the interview. Some who have condemned it have, later in the interview, been accused of not actually being condemnatory at all. I've heard a fair few interviewees turn the tables and ask the interviewer to condemn Israel for their day-to-day killing of Palestinians before this attack, and hey the interviewer has refused to do so. (The first 4 or 5 days of Shelagh's LBC call-in shows were appalling in this regard.) I suspect this interviewee is probably tired of that game and is refusing to directly answer the question to the exact words of the required formula on principle.

And the same is true here. If Hamas had just attacked and massacred a load of innocent people unrelated to anything with no motive, it's different to Hamas attacking a group of illegal settlers, many former IDF members (due to the compulsory military training that ALL Israelis have to do) against a backdrop of decades of apartheid and illegal occupation.
Three weeks ago, virtually no-one was talking about Israel and their ongoing breaches of international law. It's not newsworthy. The repeated insistence on this question - "Do you condemn Hamas: yes or no?" - across all media is becoming more and more apparent. It seems to show an obsessive concern to (1) shut down and decontextualise discourse rather than to open up discourse and provide more context by reducing the discussion to a simple yes/no question; and (2) it is also driven by the desire to pigeonhole people and generate headlines and clickbait by saying 'person X refuses to condemn Hamas'. Let's open up the discussion.
Because the proPalestinian bunch prefer to ignore it!!
I concur with your sentiments. It is indeed disconcerting when those responsible for disseminating news resort to biased questioning. The propagation of misinformation, particularly when it is skewed to manipulate public opinion, is not only unethical but also detrimental to the fabric of our society.
It is unjust that indigenous people are not only silenced but also condemned. The questions posed to them do not aim to foster open dialogue or disseminate factual information. Instead, they seem designed to incite anger, exploiting their responses for sensationalism rather than understanding.
The expectation for indigenous people to provide answers that should be common sense is a clear indication of the lack of genuine engagement. It is imperative that we demand better from our news sources and hold them accountable for their role in shaping public discourse.
It's becoming more apparent because so many pro Palestinian supporters seem to have no regard for the innocent Israel people who are caught up in this conflict which in itself is a telling barrier to peace. You can be pro Palestine and still condemn such actions. It's called being a compassionate human being.
Recognising a society is the product of settler colonialism doesn’t equate to calling for an end to it. As an Australian I’m baffled by a British reporter’s confusion on this?

The world (rightly so):” We are disgusted by their actions”
Israel commits war crimes
The world: “I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that.”
Because anyone decent with a conscience would condemn Hamas. Particularly after what they did in Israel recently that horrified the world.
The kind of creepy cranks who for some reason can't condemn them should be shown to the world.
Wow I'm disappointed but not surprising to hear another LBC presenter defending war crimes and failing to address the route cause. This young man was spot on. Does the paymaster and owner of Global have a dog in this race?
Does the young man get your approval because he is clearly an activist for Islamic terror?
"palestinians" do not have a claim to Israel at all.
@jittmet7766 how is it u managed to forget about the zionist error groups that killed thousands and terrorised the West? What about the bombing if the USS liberty? Israel has as much right to the land as the Irish have to the UK. Isreal was a nation for 200 years tops lol. The Palestines have lived that land far longer, even if we just look under the Ottoman Empire, far longer.

@@jittmet7766 I think you’ re right about the caller, and his supporter. I think Ms Fogarty handled his stubbornness with great skill and sincerity. People like that aren’t looking for understanding or basic common ground.
Why does anyone expressing solidarity with Palestinian's (not Hamas) need to constantly denounce Hamas's attacks? Yet hosts like Shelagh do not hold Israeli spokespeople to the same standard? Whether a random individual denounces individual attacks is rather meaningless in the grand scale of things and pure clickbait. Wish places like LBC would do better than clickbaiting gutter politics.
Because it shows they are hypocrites.

Ridiculous interview; her lack of empathy for Palestinians is breath-taking and quite callous
All he needed to say in response was 'yes, the attacks by Hamas on Saturday 7th October was a massacre'. Instead he seemed to be an apologist for the attack, implying the victims brought it on themselves because of Israeli actions in Gaza
She’s a disgrace when it comes to the Palestinian people!
It is a pity that LBC does have a regular presenter such as this caller. The current roster is ageing and out of touch with the broad opinion across the country. They have all latched on to 7th October but I have never heard them devote so much time to any of the previous Gaza sieges or the basic essentials of life denied to so many.

The atrocities on the 7th Oct were shocking, but not surprising. The Israeli government will have factored their own shortcomings in failing to protect their people into their military response and the distraction it affords. But there are questions about their security and intelligence, they will have to face down the line.
These stars wrote a letter to condemn the pain and suffering that is currently taking place in Gaza. It doesn't mean that they don't care about what happened to the Israelis. Why are we nowadays always questioning the intention of anyone who is opposing the atrocities in Gaza? Being against the killing of innocent Gazans doesn't mean you're antisemitic or pro hamas. This is so frustrating!
It really isn't. This is an incredible volatile situation on a bigger level and has to be handled carefully. This isn't the time to take sides. Iran and russia hamas and hezbollah are watching carefully for cracks. Hamas knew exactly what they were provoking and nd there are still hostages in gaza. We also have to remember there is a lot of disinformation out there. Hamas isn't protecting Palestinians yet he lays no blame there. Everyone knows this is a right mess
It often does though, that’s why this question always gets asked
Since they didnt mention it in the letter, they obviously dont care

@@mella8298 Thank you for replying to me without calling me a troll! So, how do I unpick your loaded statement? Firstly, Israel is not illegally occupying any Palestinian territory. Are you referring to the West Bank, or are you referring to Israel itself? The West Bank was illegally taken by Jordan. This was land originally intended for a Jewish homeland as agreed and approved by the League of Nations and the United Nations. If anybody committed a crime it was Jordan. Israel won it back when the United Arab Nations lost a war that they had started in the first place. Israel allows Arab Palestinian people to live there despite that fact it was never the Arab Palestinians' land. How can that be a crime? I suggest you study a little history about this subject. If you can't condemn Hamas, a terrorist organisation, then that's a massive red flag.
I have mixed feelings about this. It shouldn't be this difficult to condemn the Hamas attack, but on the other hand the price for having an opinion about this in the media seems to be this pro forma condemnation. It is then enlisted to rhetorically place people calling for the cease fire on the back foot, as if to say that because they don't support Israel using Hamas a pretext for a war crime, they must endorse killing Israeli civilians. It frames the attacks as the opening salvo in a war, when it is just the latest battle in a prolonged conflict which Israel has absolutely exacerbated at every turn. This was inevitable, predictable, and predicted. We're not supporting it. We're just not surprised. And it is particularly grating to hear the people who couldn't be bothered to care this whole time for longer than 5 minutes at a stretch lecture the rest of us about our lack of concern for innocent life.
