A pinch of weighted putty and your budget lure there is good. In fact, here in the UK we lure anglers like a lure to pop up as we can add weight to fine tune. So to some its better to float and be able to be tuned so rise slow or even sit neutral simply by adding very small amounts of tungsten putty. We also use wire traces a lot which can pull lures down so again its its buoyant we can trim and work with it still. The expensive lure there would sink.
The market is loaded with MB 110 clones, I would be interested in a comparison between a MB 110 and a clone. This is an interesting topic. If the blank is the same the paint is still different and depending on matte vs gloss finish it can change the bait. Hooks and line size as well. Some blanks look similar but weighting is slightly different or the material used inside to weight it may be. Steal, tungsten, alloy, copper, glass or brass. Size of those weighted components. Eyes, split rings, sound, size etc. It also comes down to how you fish it. Cadence and seasonal patterns like long pauses or no pauses. I catch most of my trout on no pause but bass are always on a pause type retrieve for example. Cold water long pauses like 45 sec or longer or warm water straight retrieve instead of jerks. Etc.

Sometimes those jerkbaits that float to the surface are winners. I use the KVD100 in summer and most of my bites come after a long pause where it's been sitting on the surface for a few seconds.
I think that the cheaper two-dollar lure is cheap enough to do some experimental mods to them. I would be inclined to drill a hole through the top of one of them just large enough to extract the internal BBs and then replace those BBs with an equal number of denser lead shot. The denser lead BBs would create a lower pitched sound, and they would also decrease the buoyancy of the bait. With a little imagination, plugging up the drilled hole should be easy enough. If it doesn't work out, just put the original BBs back in.
