POLE BARN POST | Concrete Bad, FAST 2K Good!

- We are finishing our pole barn post and we use bulk Fast 2k for the first time. It is so much easier than using concrete and it protects the wood of the pole barn post! We used the T25 by TYM tractors with the post hole digger and then set the post using our grapple. @TYM Tractors @Precision Manufacturing Inc @gluetalk

When I was young , Dad and I put the post hole digger in the pole barn. Dad backed the tractor to the corner of the barn and used the post hole digger to dig the auger about 2.5 to 3 ft down. We left the digger in the ground and unhooked it. We laid the front yoke on a rough sawn 12 by 12 seasoned oak timber that was a little wider than the yoke. We tied the pto shaft to yoke off the ground. We used the 12 by12 to guide the tractor straight back to hook up. No fighting , smashed fingers or heavy lifting. Never had problem with water in the hole or excessive rust on auger. Where Dad put it always was dry in the hole.
Good idea! - Maybe cut the bottom off a 5 gallon bucket as a sleeve and put a little gravel in the bottom to clean it up?

As for the post hole digger, they are a bear to deal with. Nonetheless, I learned I can back mine up to a small diameter tree and use a couple of ratchet straps to secure it before I disconnect from my tractor. Makes it easier to hook back up too.
Getting large posts in the ground....and plumb...is definitely a chore. Great work Tony and Tonja! 👍 The pole barn is looking really great!
The bulk product makes this so much more attractive than multiple bag loads. If it was more available in the UK i would consider it for handrails, interpretation boards etc. Thanks for posting.
I agree. Both sizes are easier to use than concrete bags, but the bulk Fast 2K is very friendly to work with.
Good work, Tony. And uggghhhh on the mis-cut of the 6x6!! Hopefully you have another place you can use it. I'm framing one end of my pole barn like a house with 2x6 on 16" centers....on the other end, I'm thinking about putting in a laminated beam across the 32' width so I can frame in a 10x10 rollup. But that's next year!!

Having put in 600- 700 posts & 200 16' long ( plus) in my life ,this " technique " of dropping the post in the hole had to be the slowest l have ever seen. Just never thought of using the "tractor to help". In the case of the 3point auger, they are "pure torture " to use. Going to "adapt" mine to a hydraulic motor, for forward-reverse control--- they always get stuck. A jib-loader-adapter is also on the "drawing board". Using the loader to place the post is way faster and easier than by hand. This post was time consuming because we decided to put more post up after the barn was built. I did want to bend the new metal roof hitting it with a post.
yeah I've put up alot of posts with family by hand with no implements but ropes/ladders/hands... and maybe faster with posts that size if had 4-5 practiced young toned backs, but one could say that about shoveling vs backhoe, but when you factor in its just Tony and his wife, they looked like they weren't rushing but ensuring they did everything 100% correctly, as well as ensuring they were enjoying themselves. I really enjoyed this speed so I could imagine & think through doing this with a bobcat im restoring lol. After I resto the bobcat & require the grapple,the last thing too seek out and wrestle is a wife... then I could match Tony's level of relaxation when tackling such projects lol.

@@TonysTractorAdventure Oh yea, when "one" has a tractor they want to utilize it as much as possible. There always seems to be a "man-power" shortage now-a-days, maybe we're just U-tubing TOO much. Just saying that "bite" with the post on the grapple loader looked kind of clumsy & dangerous. I think the grapple is designed for horizontal lifting & grabbing. A simple "sling strap" on a grab hook on the loader bucket is a " tryed & true" technique ---when tractor hydraulic power is needed. In a " monkey see-a monkey do" scenario l could see a LOT of "Catastrophic " failures. I would not use your technique at home-- seen way too many people getting hurt with the wrong "rigging technique ". Just thought you would like too know, ( just 40years of practical commercial, residential,& Industrial experience). God Bless all your endeavours.
@Donald Strishock we each have a level risk we are willing to accept and I have the in-person on the ground situational awareness. Those were true White Oak 2x4s. Statistically, it more likely a person would have a fatal car accident, yet people jump in a car and go down the road not having any idea if the oncoming vehicle has brakes or tires worth a darn. The next time you are at a shopping center, take an inventory of the tires on your fellow drivers cars. Now that is dangerous stuff. Still, I appreciate you taking the time to care. 40 years heavy maintenance. Tanks, artillery, construction equipment, heavy trucks. I even got a bit of higher learning in engineering. Tony, the pole barn build is looking great. You've convinced me about fast 2k. I have a build coming up that will require it. Great informative video as always.
We had some strong winds with gust up to 80mph in places. The barn is still there!
When I get done with mine I pull the pin and drop the screw and then take it off easy but some times I put my log tongs on it and use it to skid logs works really well but it takes me about 5 minutes to hook up and go

Good job Tony that foam is awesome as for the post hole digger a large truck wheel will be about the right hight and it will let you turn back and forth not pretty but it works.thank you for your time and work good job the video always love two watch.
I appreciate the tip. I have never spent enough time looking for a post hole digger solution, but I have spent a good bit of time talking about how much I dislike the setup. LOL!
It’s not good for the auger but I let mine drill down then unhook it,stays there and stands up until I need it again
best way is too chain post hole digger up to a beam up in the air a like and you can move it around for easier hook up. is fast 2k cheaper in the jugs? take care, be safe and well.
It is a bit cheaper, but for large jobs, it is way easier.

Tony how much $ for the product that you use for filled the hole were is the post 6X6
I take the auger off my PHD and install a 2-inch piece of PVC lined with grease in its place. Then I just lay it on the ground. Hooking up, put the main boom in the top link bracket the arch into the lifting arms. I really don't mind doing it that way but leaving the auger on is awkward at best

If you just chare the part of your post that goes in the ground in a fire it will never rote and you can pack it with dirt and save a lot

Never used the foam pist stuff ut I've heard it's good now I'm gonna have to buybsome and use it.
I have had really good results with the foam. My barn made it through a storm with very strong winds and it is not done yet. 60 to 80mph gust.

I bought the little bag. It took me three bags to put in for a flagpole. I still did not put in enough so the flagpole is loose. Lesson learned I'll have to go back and redo it
I only use the deck post kind. I have had amazing results. My barn made it through a very strong storm. 60-80mph gust.

Whats the black stuff on the bottom of the post? And will that protect it from foam and/or concrete & any moisture? Thanks again for the great video
The black stuff is just a redundant layer of protection. The foam creates a waterproof bond. The black stuff will protect the post from the concrete floor pour.
What about a footing at the bottom of the posts that are load bearing before the Fast 2K?
No need. Fast2k is the footing.

How deep of a hole was that and diameter? Trying to calculate costs of fast2k and if i only want to use 1 mix then would you go less deep or lesser diameter?
4ft deep x 9 inches wide. 6x6 post.
Why did you decide to treat the posts this time?
I had extra stuff. I was not necessary and it may have been better just to use the Fast2K. I thought about that after.
How come these videos praising the uses of foam never come back after several months and tell you that the foam shrinks and your pole is no longer solid in the hole?
You went and made a negative post on the one channel that did do a later review on foam. You used the wrong brand foam. I did a whole video on the lousy foam. I am waiting for an apology. 😉
