    This short video taught me more about the golf swing than the scores of books, dvds and all the other internet tips and videos I've ever watched. Hogan shows most of all in the video how easy it is to get your weight to the left side by using the rhythm of the golf swing. The natural momentum of the swing has to put your weight on your left side. U can just feel it by watching him..!! Best drill of all time..!!

      I know it's 2 years old, But I agree with you entirely.
      And Mr. Snead by playing either bare footed or in silk socks made sure he would not over swing and keep in Tempo.
      He actually played the back 9 barefooted in the Masters 1 year because his timing was off.
      They don't make golfers like this anymore.
      Can you imagine if Mr. Hogan and Mr. Snead were on Tour today..???...The Fed Ex cup would only have 2 names on it for the next 20 years.
      I am 51 and recently lost a friend who believe it or not was Sam Snead's Best friend for over 40 years.
      They were as tight as a Miser with a dime.
      When Sam died a lot of my friend died with him and when my friend died he took a piece of my heart as well.,
      His name was Jack Bell.
      Sam Got him his first head PGA pro job at The Greenbrier and after that at Medina.
      Jack Played in 4 US Opens and played on tour for a few years and won local tournaments in VA but realized his true calling was in teaching and he eventually coached VCU's Golf team...Sorry to bother you, I just read your statement and it reminded me of something Jack would have said, Keep em in the short grass my friend.

    Golfer's of today will never know the greatness of this man. Almost killed and left crippled for life after a head-on with a Greyhound, he won 6 of the 9 majors after he returned to the tour in 1950 and without the accident he could have built an amazing record, and with healthy legs could have possibly won 20 or more majors. At one point, Tiger won 7 of 11 majors, truly an outstanding record but Hogan was 9 of 16 in majors and his amazing 18 consecutive top 10's is approached only by Jack with 13. In July of 1960 I was 16 and watched as he shot a flawless 62 on my home course (Atascocita, near Houston). The month before he nearly won his 5th Open, hitting the first 34 greens on the final day at Cherry Hills, only to have a wedge back off the green into the water. Fate was cruel to Ben Hogan but those of us who watched him play know he was the best.

      ed chapman- Great player yes. The "best"? Not by a long shot.
      He was also a nasty, miserable fuck to those outside his inner circle and cursed like a sailor. Just ask Johnny Miller and Gary Player. Miller as an amateur playing in his first US Open, walked up to Hogan , who was sitting eating lunch, and introduced himself and told Hogan how much he admired him. Hogan's response? " Kid can't you see I'm eating my soup" !
      No "Thank You son", or words of encouragement hat Johnny would have cherished forever.
      Tiger , Jack and Bobby Jones are the best the game has ever seen. No one comes close. Jack with 18 majors and 19 second place finishes in majors. 73 wins total.
      Tiger with 15 majors and counting , and the only person in history to win 4 majors in a row in the modern era of golf. He is temporarily tied for most wins in PGA Tour history with Sam Snead at 82.
      Bobby Jones is the only person to win all 4 majors of his era in the same year (Grand Slam). He only played for 7 years , before retiring due to illness . In those 7 years he won 13 majors.

      Well, the GOAT debate will rage on forever, in every sport, unless it's based on a time, like the 40-yard dash or something / Yes, Hogan could be cold, but I don't think his legacy as a golfer should be judged through that lens, or not entirely / Jack and Tiger could also be real assholes too, and yet, all of these men also have charming and thoughtful sides too / In Hogan's case, there are several factors that make his numbers deceiving, including the fact that he missed so many tournaments due to WWII, and then his accident / When he went on his tear, it was, perhaps, the most amazing in golf history, matching or surpassing Tiger / Subjectively, in terms of his swing, it is widely praised as the greatest ever seen, esp in terms of its efficiency (he was short) and precision (the guy had tournaments in which he hit every fairway and every green in reg; that's simply awe-inspiring / Nicklaus and Player, two of the GOATS, do not hesitate to identify Hogan as the greatest ballstriker of all time, hands down ...

    The interesting thing is that what Hogan is showing looks a lot like the swing reprogramming technique taught by Dr. Kwon, Director of the Biomechanics Lab at Texas Womans University in Denton TX. Kwon is a genius. He says swing speed depends on the lower body, the pelvis, not the arms. He has students swing a 10 pound kettleball in almost exactly the same way Hogan starts out, saying keep your hands in front of your chest and swing rhythmically with the lower body, don't swing with the arms. You can see that from the start, as Hogan swings wider and faster, he is always moving with his pelvis and hips, with the lower body, and just seems to be throwing the arms, not trying to make a muscular swing with the arms independent of the body. Hogan also takes a full, rhythmic backswing and does not rush the transition, which is another thing Kwon stresses.

    • @JaredFromSubway88
      @JaredFromSubway88 Рік тому

      Pelvis and hips are kind of the same thing, but I would argue neither are your lower body. Your knees and feet are your lower body, which is where the swing starts: where the toes meet the turf

    This is actually his swing in a nutshell. Just add a straight left arm on the right side arc and a straight right arm on the left side arc to keep his hands in the largest diameter arc possible. Keep your forearms as close together as possible and you just about got it. Don't try to release the club.
    Add practice to perfect it. Don't forget the hat, pants, and cigarette for style.
    I think the book was a profitable smokescreen to hide his secret and extend his legend. He was no dummy.

    He's essentially doing a big waggle, which used to be discussed in golf instruction a lot more. It's supposed to be a mini swing rehearsal of your full swing. I've been doing this while waiting for my playing partners turns, and then I do a couple of short ones before I swing - it really helps.

    If anyone can do it, I'll try. I'm coming back to golf, so there's no better action to try and emulate. Hogan has a beautiful looking swing; the man is so fluid, and those hips generate so much power and whip - people should really take note, that is where the power in a swing is, not the arms. And that connection between the arms and body - no one has ever explained or demonstrated it so simply. I tried it last night and it felt very right. Interesting to see how it goes on the range.

    What this exercise does, as it clearly states in his last book, is to teach you to feel as though you are swinging the club with your body and not your arms or hands. If you do this with a ball you will see one shot after another landing on target. If I use an 8 iron, the ball will travel about 50 yards total. The exercise will then transfer that feeling to your full swing where the elbows are no longer pinned to your body. When he takes a full swing here you can see that the elbows are no longer pinned.

    • @golfbulldog
      @golfbulldog 3 роки тому +2

      I agree, in fact I don't see his elbows themselves being attached, certainly not the left elbow, even in the small swing. What I see is the upper arm attached to the front and sides of his chest. The elbows can rotate from that position and sometimes point away from the chest a bit. And in the larger swings the upper arms are released from the chest a bit at the top and finish of the swing.

    Not sure it takes a purist. Some manufacturers still make good forged irons, but hardly anybody plays them. If the Tour would require the old ball, persimmon, and blades with no game-improvement features, we'd see pretty quickly which two-thirds of the tour shouldn't be out there--not to mention how much better we'd be able to see how one generation stacked up against another. But the Tour administration would never allow it, because it would get all over the "these guys are good" thing.
