      Actually much portion of air busan pilots were Korean Air Force (fighter pilots). After retire of their duty, the old pilots usually get position at low cost airline as captains.
      I mean they don’t care about fuel. I know they are just annoyed to digest several flight at same maneuver in single day as their flight schedule is very routine and tight lol. it is true. My friend is co pilot at air busan and he always scared captain’s wild driving which is like sortie lol

    An excellent training video.
    It was interesting to note which pilots followed the Windshear Escape Manoeuvre correctly.
    Also, massive respect to the pilots for not ‘pushing on with a bad approach’.
    Having the professional competence to assess even during the flare that it is not safe to continue the landing, and go around, shows piloting at its highest standard.
    Thank you for an excellent video.

    Each missed approach adds a good 45 minutes to your flight time, which is a real pain in the derrière. Having experienced a double missed approach to Narita during a typhoon and diversion to Osaka after the third failed attempt, I can say it’s a very scary feeling, like riding an out of control roller coaster.

      Only a very incompetent pilot would say that! There are many reasons why a missed approach is sometimes necessary, and I'd rather go around than crash up my aircraft because I landed when I should have gone around!
      We KNOW airlines scream and holler about go-arounds because of the fuel and scheduling, BUT, better to be safe than sorry.

    • @nizz00
      @nizz00 5 років тому

      Simon Peters I know that I just figured that they weren’t in an actual wind shear since the trajectory of the aircraft seemed normal . And every other airline just did a go around and not a wind shear procedure .

    As a passenger having landed and taken off from this airport, it’s the only time I’m nervous wondering “what are the crosswinds going to be like today...” never was nervous flying until coming to this airport. Some great piloting done by ANA & JAL the two airlines I prefer when traveling US ->Japan hospitality is superb!

    • @marikomat

      LouB747 we had to (begrudgingly) fly delta from Atlanta bc our flight from Charlotte was cancelled (due to mechanical issues) and JAL / American put us on a connecting flight to Atlanta. We had no idea we were going to be put on a USA based flight. Such disappointment for the whole flight. We swore we would NEVER fly Delta again. Unfortunately the “alliance” airlines for JAL and ANA (in the US) sorely lack in every department (except pilots as far as we can tell) & could use a refresher course in hospitality! American and United airlines are not anything like they were when I flew in the 60’s / 70’s as a child. Manners were still used!

  • @apgardude

    Fantastic video! Those planes are getting tossed around quite a bit, and the side slip is nicely visible from your shot angle. Great job, Lou!
    What stood out -- as a retired airline pilot -- is how some of these crews seemed to leave the gear down way too long. Our go-around callouts were "Set go-around power, spoilers in, flaps 8, positive rate, gear up". The flaps and gear would be in transit within about 10 seconds of the initiation of the go-around. Some of these guys seemed to slack a bit on procedural discipline, or else their company procedures are substantially different (which is tough to believe).
    A couple of approaches struck me as particularly dangerous: ANA (2:20) seemed to make the decision a bit late, likely bleeding off some airspeed so close to the ground and nearly porpoising the aircraft.... then, they never raised the gear -- probably a bit shaken up! And Air Canada (4:50), while they did salvage the landing attempt, were probably in a near-stalled condition after the bounce, with very little energy to spare. Tough to know what their airspeed was, how much runway remained, and whether they had the engines adequately spooled to safely tame the bounce but it appears that they, as well, should have gone around.
    A go-around -- at the same airport under very similar weather conditions -- filmed by me from a passenger seat. Great if you like the groan of the GE90-110b... ua-cam.com/video/3UzD62Q47Sg/v-deo.html

      Thanks so much. I currently fly the 747. It's standard practice for us to leave the gear down on a windshear event. I believe it's a standard Boeing and Airbus procedure. No configuration changes. So the go arounds with the gear down must be windshear events.Yeah, a few crazy ones.....especially that ANA at 2:20. Thanks for taking the time to watch and especially comment. I hope to make a few more flying videos soon.

    • @apgardude
      @apgardude 6 років тому +2

      LouB747 that's right about the windshear with no configuration changes... I forgot... I wasn't considering that. I can't remember: is the windshear alert system inhibited during the flare? I was just assuming the go-rounds initiated from the flare were for something other than windshear. Please make more flying videos... yours are some of the best around! You're lucky to still get your hands on the 747. I took a flight on a Delta bird about a year before they retired those things.

    • @loub747
      @loub747  6 років тому +2

      Honestly, I can't tell you if it's active in the flare. I only ever had it go off once, in a 747-200, at around 1000 feet. My channel is mostly about finding snakes, but I do add occasional flying videos. Here's my latest....
      ua-cam.com/video/Wkyqf2InfyoT/v-deo.htmlhanks for the kind words. I have to be careful with what I share nowadays. That "777 airdrop" video got me in some hot water. If you haven't seen it, google it and you'll find it out there somewhere still.

    • @jemand8462
      @jemand8462 5 років тому

      I'm not a retired airline pilot, but I'm pretty sure that it's because of windshear warning. As far as I remember (from a youtube instruction video) you're not supposed to do anything but keep the airplane in the air in case of windshear. It's not normal that through so many different airlines they all do the same "mistake" which noone usually does. so it should be normal procedure.

      I'm more impressed by the go arounds actually
      This one should have been a go around: 1:32
      The pilot can't get her down, it's a long landing, not stable. After she touched down and then lifted off again the pilot should have called a go around.
      Bad risk management which is the most important job of a pilot

    • @loub747
      @loub747  6 років тому +15

      Yeah, I hear you about the one at 1:32. It's easy to make a judgement without being in the cockpit. A lot of these planes were on the second and even third approaches, after holding as well. Not sure of their fuel situations. Haneda, the typical alternate, was just as windy, although it's typically down the runway over there. But yeah, I hear you.
