Well I won’t bother with that yet , still concentrating on this one , still got some chics to hatch yet and anything can turn round , still time for that. You got a nice set up , I got some in cages and some in the avairy , in beginning of April and May it was very unsettled the weather and that is no good for the birds , I’ve thrown a lot of chics but that’s how it goes sometimes , we don’t do this to throw birds away but it’s part of our hobby unfortunately.
@@michaelborg3685 Yes your right, I have new cages coming on Monday and hopefully the flight will be up and ready by next. Yes your right every season is different but that's why we keep trying year after year
Looking good Ben. Sorry to hear about the cockbird!! I gotta ask though how many rounds do you let you hens go for? As I have said before I have only started breeding canaries and this is my second year. I have three hens on eggs that are due to hatch on Wednesday/Thursday although I one nest may not hatch at all as I was out on Saturday in work and when I got home the nest pan was on the floor of the cage still intact and the eggs hadn't moved. I put the nest back in position and the hen immediately went back to sit but I don't know how long the nest was down for and the hen was off the eggs. Also I have another hen that is in the middle of laying a clutch and I will put all her eggs back under her tomorrow or Wednesday but what I am asking in a round about and long winded way is when do you finish your season?
I've had that happen a few times this year, I think it's the cocks that try to drive the hens back to nest. I let the hens go down for 3 nests, so this will probably be the last for some of them. Them I will put all the hens in the flight with the youngsters
@@BenMartinbreeding_season Thanks Ben. That's what I am doing with three rounds for each hen so this will be the last rounds for each. I think that could be what happened with my hen as well although I'm not sure to be honest as she sits tight on the nest and she is a nightmare to get off the nest to check the eggs or previous chicks.....well all I can do is wait and see what happens as the eggs are due to hatch on Thursday so fingers crossed!!

How old are the goldfinch are they Siberian
No they are parva goldfinches, 2 hens are 2017 bred and the cock is 2018 bred, the chick is a few days old now

I have the same issues with 1 of my hens, I've been told it could be air sac mites, so I've been using S76. Will see how that goes
Yeah it’s been a funny , well shouldn’t say funny but not a good season at all , will see what happens with the next lot
