They are not really "looking at" anything specific. They had just talked to Gabriel; they knew by that time that William was in U.S. custody but they didn't know William had infected himself with the chemicals he was carrying, hoping he would not be interrogated when he was arrested and risk giving up Soviet secrets. But not knowing that fact, Gabriel was worried if William would break while in custody and expose Philip, as he had seen Philip without a disguise, just as Martha had. Gabriel told them the more time that went by, the bigger the risk to them and their family. He also mentioned Philip's heart had not been in the work for awhile and they had been working in the U.S. for almost 20 years and their jobs were never meant to be permanent. So he advised them to get themselves and their children to a safe house and move back to Russia ASAP. So when they were sitting in the car, they were not looking at anything but staring straight ahead of themselves, absorbing what they had just been advised to do by their trusted handler. Moving is hard for the average person! But it would have been a dramatic, unexpected change for them and their kids. And they just sat in their car for a moment in silence, taking the information in.
One of the best season finale songs. I get the chills every time I watch this.
remind me, please: What are P&E looking at?
