    We never get to see these people again. Im curious as to wether they are directorate S operatives or just regular americans they hired to play a role. If so, there's the obvious question as to what made them feel safe to do this. They must have understood that the KGB would never let them leave after they could identify the Directorate S operatives.

    In this series, i felt for Philip, but it was this episode that i realized that Elizabeth was in the right to kill this woman. A war criminal is a war criminal, no matter how much they changed. An eye for an eye. Мы это они

    This series is incredible. First of all, it did not depict the Soviets as bad guys and this scene is just defining what the Soviets would have really done with them being genuine people (with flaws of course, but genuine). As opposed to this, Americans would only give you money, that is it. A CIA brain would not be able to connect the concept of happiness with bringing in an orphan girld to a woman who always wanted to become a mother. The KGB brain can. And here lies the difference.

    One of the hardest scenes to watch in The Americans. This old woman was only 16 when she watched her family be killed and was gang raped by the Nazis. She was coerced into helping the Nazis. She somehow managed to become a good person and live a good life after this all this. Killing her and her completely innocent husband wasn't justice. Things like this made it hard to not turn against Elizabeth. She just went too far for the cause.

    • @HorusHeresist
      @HorusHeresist 4 місяці тому

      Nope, unless she's ok with being arrested. That's the thing. 90-s and early 2000-s was the worst time in modern Russian history, but they've seen worse. If the time period in the series is late 80s, she would have to endure like 20 years or something before it gets better. Quality of life for a middle class in Moscow is better then in NY today though, despite the sactions and ongoing proxy-war, we live in a strange time honestly.

    A little detail I'd add into the scene to make it extraordinary: As Paige moves forward, she'd try saying бабушка (babushka) with shaky, uncertain pronunciation, as if she was practicing how to say it properly for days just for this moment. And then, her бабушка says, in English, "you can call me grandma."

    Their captor's face as he sees Elizabeth punch Claudia and half drown her is " Holy sh¥¥, I don't want to be a part of this". Elizabeth was a fraction of Claudia's weight, but she was so angry that she overpowered Claudia with a suprise attack that was so intense that Philip had to drag Elizabeth bodily off Claudia to tie up the lead captor, so they could escape.

    What wonderful writing. They could easily have never revisited this character, but they did. They gave her a happy ending when everyone else's world fell apart, she was given a young child and could really begin a new life and one she likely would never have had in America. So thoughtful of the writers!
