    Love the UV-5R. super video the tip with the name and the frequenze under was the best one. If you could recomend a wired antenna for someting like an RV, camper, a 4x4 for more range, or in my case a baby carrier, so the kids get 446mhz hobby radios, I get the mobile tactical surpport babytruck, with the food and water and first aid kid, for the trips in animal parks. and I dont care if its a big one.

    When you set it up so the channel "name"' is on top is that frequency supposed to automatically appear below it? I can put the channel name in A but to see that frequency I have to go to B and set it to the same channel manually.

    I have a GMRS license and five HT’s just incase one breaks (they’re cheap, but reliable being Baofengs) which is great! Recently ordered a Retevis RA86 GMRS micro mobile for my car and am going to set up a base station eventually at home for my wife incase phone lines/internet go down to reach me clearly a few miles away. I’m thinking about getting my technician license for ham to have more watts for more distance as well as access to VHF and eventually HF legally. UHF is great for where I’m at in the city with all of these buildings though at the moment.

    Good stuff, Menu items 21 & 22 require software to actually program in the names you want to see. It would be great to know the CHIRP screen names for the numbered items you talked about so that you can find these items in CHIRP. I'm not sure the names used in CHIRP are the same as the Menu names on the radio. Thanks.

    • @mkin6370
      @mkin6370 3 роки тому +1

      Joe, when in CHIRP, after you've downloaded the radio information; click on the settings tab on the left hand side under memories, you should now be in the Basic Settings, find Display Mode (A) & (B). They have drop down menus, A is the top display, B is the bottom. Hope this helped.

    My UV5R ignores any offset value I enter. In chirp it will allow me to use “split” to set the specific transmit frequency, but if I try to enter an offset instead it always reverts to zero.

    • @kgoldric
      @kgoldric 2 роки тому +1

      Not sure if you figured it out yet but I was having that issue trying to change to narrow band and it would just remove it the second I got out of the menu options. I figured it out though. You just need to be in frequency mode, put in the frequency then go to the menu and you can change some settings. Apparently if you are in channel mode the menu will not let you overwrite some of the settings since the channel was already saved. So you need to basically start over with frequency then change all the frequency specific settings in the menu then you can delete the old channel and save the new channel. Kinda a pain but it does work that way.

  • @SpeakNowHoldYourPeace

    Quick question: I have two (2) Baofeng UV-5Rs. I have them set and programed identically the same in the menu. I also have them on the same frequency. When I transmit from Baofeng radio # 1 to Baofeng radio # 2 it works fine however when I try to transmit from Baofeng radio # 2 to Baofeng radio # 1, the Baofeng radio # 1 will not pick up the transmission from the other Baofeng radio #2. SO I cannot hear any signal/transmission from Baofeng radio # 1. Do you think there is something wrong with Baofeng radio # 1?

    • @GetYourCommsUp

      The radio is a FM radio. Most aviation is AM I believe. And the radio only goes down to 136 which is where the top of the Air band stops.

    How did you set your LCD screen that way?

    • @greg6162
      @greg6162 3 роки тому +1

      I was just thinking the same thing and seen your comment. I know there are variations of Boafeng radios and manufacturers. I believe the BTech is the original version and they are slightly more expensive. I just got the GT-3TP Mark III and the screen can be harder to read and isn’t as clear as the original UV-5R. I think I might return them and get the UV-5R due to compatibility issues with batteries and such and also the inability to fit a upgraded antenna

    It would be good to mention that without a repeater, that radio transceives effectively for about three blocks. They are continually represented as rescue or SHTF radios and that is a terrible disservice.

    • @GetYourCommsUp
      @GetYourCommsUp  Рік тому

      You get the same distance that you’re going to get with any handheld radio, Yaesu, Kenwood or Motorola. Usually a couple miles in the woods. And yeah it can be as short as a few blocks in a city.

    I always wonder if the Chinese are listening with their electronic devices but that just might be the xenophobic tendencies of my personal prejudices and the personal concern for my nations sovereignty overall,,, let em listen and let em come were waiting...

    • @DaveSmith-cp5kj
      @DaveSmith-cp5kj 3 роки тому +2

      It's not paranoia anymore. Back in 2011 we found out the Chinese loaded most of their USB chargers with spyware in order to steal corporate data among other things. Only difference today we not only have to concern ourselves with the Chinese but also tech companies getting paid by other countries, such as Google.
      That being said, I really doubt the chinese are listening through the radios because radio transmissions themselves are unencrypted as is. So anyone can listen in on their own radio.
