All neutrals are timeless and that includes beige, cream, white, off white, brown, black, etc. My blank canvas is always cream and beige and then I add colors on top of that.
I always go away from any trends. Absolutely hate idea that certain items/trends are EVERYWHERE and now I'll have them in my own house! I love unique and non obvious items. Great video, Valentina
Valentina, you have really taught me the art of non-trend decor. You make it so easy and really teach the basics of luxury that anyone can use! I used to feel so confused about decor but you have made it so easy to plan my spaces in my home. Thank you so much!!!!!
Your vases are beautiful but for me they are too big for my condo. White sofas are very nice but what about cleaning them??? I really really love your videos and you help me choose the colour of me walls. I choose for my bedroom you natural cream but more pale because it is a smaller room. Looking forward to look at more videos. What about decorating with renown painters. My paintings have to tell me something (a message). I have 18 paintings and I intend to put them all in my condo. I don't follow today's trend. I need vibrant colours in my home. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!
I love that you incourage pieces that will last many years. I heard a quote that said buy the pieces that will make the most amazing estate sale or go to your grandchildren. Those are the pieces worth investing in.
My favorite non-trend will always be stainless steel kitchen appliances. I see how the black and white appliances are making a comeback in a more modern way, but they still must be used with caution based on the design of the kitchen. However, in my opinion, stainless just seems to work in almost every design.
Yes, I am sick of trends. That’s why I always go with a modern twist on classics. I stick as closely to a classical style as possible with as strong of neutral colors as possible. That way I can add pops of color seasonally or randomly.
@@marciamakoviecki3295 There's a difference between "forgettable" and Classic. 😉 Not everyone is into a ton of color, and that's okay. There are a lot of different design and decor styles. It's personal preference.
Love your channel Valentina! Thank you x1,000 for making this video, it's hard for us non-designers to identify what is simply a classic piece, as all the design content online is driven by trends: what's coming in, what's going out, and how to/how not to do. But what is simply classic? Thank you again for touching on this topic!
I'm so sick of the trends! everybody wearing the same things, have the same house decors... ahhh My store to go for furniture is crate and barrel, for the things around the house, I like maison du monde, H&M house, Zara home, and everywhere else haha.
I love your style and sophisticated look - very European. I once learnt from a designer that have one black and one “old” antique item in a room to ground the decor and that approach really works with your style.
Catching up on some videos. Been super busy. First, I must say you look fantastic! My Mother in law loves white in her house. I haven’t moved that to that thought process yet, but I can understand why it can be classic.
Beautiful items Valentina, especially the vases, I love that black textured vase sitting behind you in the video. Classic and Timeless pieces is what I want now in my life, I’m over having to change things up all the time, that’s one thing we don’t do often here in Australia 🇦🇺, I don’t know anyone that decorates for the different seasons, it’s only Christmas time that most people usually change up their decor pieces, what I have in my home stays all year round and most are recommendations from You but just from different stores. I have so many throw rugs Lol 😂, they’re probably my only obsession with the different seasons. Thank you for your advice and time to make these videos. 🖤🖤🤍🤍🤍
As a designer I’m done with pottery barn. Sadly I will shop in the stores but the online customer service is horrible and they never get it right. It also takes forever to get anything.
Hi Valentina, I am so happy to see this video, trends can be fun and interesting but really, who's got the time, money and patience to be switching things up every 5 minutes?? I agree the big pieces are best kept timeless with the best quality you can afford. I bought a Drexel Heritage couch in a timeless style 34 yrs ago for 50% off. I had it recovered with Krypton fabric 15 yrs ago and I swear it's STILL going strong. Accents are where one can have fun with trendy colors and design without breaking the bank. I appreciate your enthusiastic passion and kindness.
I've only had white walls in my homes and will keep it that way. I can also appreciate people whom do opt for color, because sometimes it can work out very well. Thanks for your great content!👌
Thank you so much for this video! You really confirm my taste in timeless items that makes me happy to own. Like white walls + contrast accessoirs and white sofa. Designs that aren't current trends can also really be boring and generic. All white walls, Pottery Barn sofas, yep, go with everything because they have zero personality of their own! 'Safe' for the interior designer, but who needs one if you're going generic?pottery Barn overall is just so very, very expected. I vote no.
Agree. Everything white and cream, everything from Pottery Barn and West Elm - it's all "safe", all generic, all designed to go together easily so anyone without design skills can put it together and it look okay. Don't get me wrong at all - a lot of this stuff makes for a really great base layer in your rooms for the essentials like sofas and chairs. None of it says anything about a person and makes a home seem so impersonal and exactly like everyone else's house.
Love that you recommended the ‘Jake’ sectional from pottery barn It’s amazing, there’s always someone falling asleep on it every time we have visitors 😂 I feel like it’s an understated sofa/sectional!
I'm planning on buying this item. I have 2 little boys and another child on the way...how does it hold up high traffic and kids? Just trying to get more reviews on this particular sofa. Thanks.
@@homemakersbudget I recommend getting the performance fabric especially with kids. I also have two young kids and two dogs (the dogs aren’t on the couch as often) my kids have spilled on it many times and it’s cleaned up well, my kids have also taken the cushions off to jump on them or make forts. Since all the covers are removable I take them off and wash them at least twice a year, you have to make sure they’re all zipped up before throwing them in the wash so that the threads on the inside don’t unfurl. I hang dry them after and use a fabric shaver if there are any pills. It’s a great couch and really comfortable, not too soft and not too firm.
Thank you for this video. I'm planning to relocate and want a fresh start with furnishings. This video gives me ideas for classic core pieces to buy. We can always add or change accessories to stay current or trendy. 💖
I’m saving this to reference when I am ready to purchase a new sofa. I have been thinking of getting a white or off white sofa. My current sofa is a light blue but I have had it for almost 20 years and it’s time for a change 😊
I don't follow trends. Especially some American trends are not so common here in Germany. Also such retailers like Weste Elm or Pottery Barn are not represented here. I prefer unique furniture and decor, which is really timeless. White walls are very landlord-friendly. And a white sofa... my dogs would re-decorate it very quickly with cute mud paws, funny snod prints and a lot of hair during the times of fur change (which, as we say, is once a year, but lasts 365 days for a German shepherd).
Yay Article sofa 🇨🇦 . Also your taste is exquisite, but I’d use those turquoise pieces somewhere outdoors in the summer for that “ Coastal” feel. I bring in a lot of aqua into my otherwise beige, white & brown room to brighten it up in the summer. Just small hits like a sea star glass coloured & shaped dish to put stones and shells or driftwood in. And as you say I switch out my winter decor pillow cases with a bright and sunny spring and summer vibe covers. I also adore blankets and really like the light but warmer blankets for summer. Fun as always- great content. 😊👍❤️
Great video! I just ordered curved sofa and Gwenyth chairs from cb2 I needed a change from traditional sofa which I had for 20 years sick of it! Love the white black combo! Hello happy Val" great. Items. Wish I could get them all.... looking to great. Big statement pieces. In my home. Broke both of my wrists. I've been binge. Watching love your ideas
Love this episode. I love my potterybarn Jake white sofa with performance fabric. It's traditional but so trendy with the wood base straight lines. I have three pieces of pottery i bought from potterybarn at least 15 years ago which i still use around the house. Love potterybarn and west elm❤
Anything you can achieve with white walls or an all neutral palette can be achieved with the judicious and intelligent use of color. Ethereal, light and airy, moody, cozy, comforting, chic, modern, traditional, etc. All of it. And color done well is also timeless. Your home is gorgeous in a neutral palette. My home is equally gorgeous using color in an artistic way with an understanding of the psychology of color and I don't have a single white wall.
I love that! I admire people who tastefully fill their homes with color. My dilemma is that over many years, I have learned that my brain/psyche quickly tire of any color I choose, no matter how much I love it in the beginning. But, I never, ever get tired of white. We just built our dream home: it's all white walls, with tons of light streaming in through the multiple windows contrasting against rich wood tone flooring, and every day it feels like Heaven. And that really what is all about... Creating a happy place. Because we are the ones living in it. So I'll come to your house and admire your fabulous color palette (and be a little envious 😉), but I'll go home and remember why white is my happy place.
Everything I bought a few years ago was immediately untrendy and minimalism was in so I forgo trends unless there’s a piece I like. I fell in love with HOV and started building a neutral palette of classic pieces. I photoshop drains, tech, cars, etc. out of my architecture pics so they are more timeless pieces. Cant wait to decorate a new home for the first time ever.
I’m having a hard time with my white sofa!? 😅 I scooped some up some cloud couches from a realtor selling a house! They were in great condition. BUT…then creating a space in my head changed! As idw a coastal look like I thought I did! Blues and white and neutrals nope now I want dark flat paint on the wall maybe navy? 🤷♀️ I want like GOTH coastal? Iol is that a thing!?
I love a neutral palette, so that I can add in different pops of color if and when I want to. It's also a lot cheaper than repainting or buying new furniture if I get bored. Haha.
I think what is being said in the video is that white walls are not trendy. And, I have to agree, they aren't. I think that they aren't always the most practical and can be sterile (when one doesn't know how to decorate with them) but they will always stand the test of time when it comes to using white paint (out or in) . Similar to the subway tile: You can get sick and tired of them, but they are not ever disappearing.
I have to totally agree with you that black and white will ALWAYS be in style. It is timeless. My kitchens are ALWAYS white slab cabinets with black countertops and it NEVER ages. Kitchen cabinet faces, colors, woods, countertops, etc all come and go. But white slabs with black counter tops are ageless. Same with living room: black, white, beige, etc. and color things up with accessories. Avoid patterns that are not accessories. Otherwise, you get bored and things will quickly looks dated. I am 66 years old and have lived with wild colors, paisley/check/floral patterns, carpeting everywhere, metal kitchen cabinets, different color marble, yellow oak, bold painted walls, etc. Trust me. It all gets boring and looks dated as soon as it goes up.
I’ve had every color of the rainbow on my walls for 20+ years. I’ve since married whitish walls and am totally content to stay here for a long while!!!!
Great video! Completely off topic but I just wanna tell you how naturally beautiful you are. I'm 37 getting my crows feet and wrinkles, and I can't even express how feeing and liberating it is for me to see your face move when you get excited. I know, such an odd comment, but thank you for showing me a real human face on my computer today.
Hello!! I would like to know what kind of flooring do you have in the main floor, I'm in the process of changing our solid hardwood red oak, and i want to stay away from the reddish/ orange colors. Thanks so much
I’m okay with white walls but I HATE white sofas. My grandmother has always had white or ivory sofas and even as grown adults we were afraid to sit on them, they just get dirty way too quickly.
Can you please share the colors you used in your house? 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I’m in the middle of updating our home in CT. Second marriage and trying to merge our styles 🤦🏻♀️. 3 teenagers as well🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I love the color you used on your fireplace. Thank you soooooo much
You know I was thinking! Wouldn’t it be a great idea to use the white or off white Brooklin linen to cover your sofas and chairs. Of course it could get spendy, but the thought of my animals hairs on a white sofa would be a disaster. However, a white or off white linen sheets, you’d remove, and it would clean easily. I mean you can only vacuum so much before you’d have to clean. Just something to think about. They have some very creative and clever ways to cover sofas and chairs with sheets. Example: Chairs can usually be covered with twin-size sheets, while love seats and sofas require full-size or bigger. You can place one sheet over the body of the furniture and use the second to cover cushions. *Fabric tacks* Fabric tacks for a creative touch, look for decorative ones - some are made with flowers, rhinestones, antique brass finishes and other designs. *To prevent slippage* Get some narrow cardboard tubes and wrap rubber bands around them. Push the tubes down into the couch’s crevices on top of the sheet, and the bands will work to hold the sheets in place. Thank you, you got me thinking there’s away out of my brown sofa.
Awww Valentina, you are a ray of sunshine to start my day ! Hugs ! Will be building a new home next year and I can't wait to decorate ! You have inspired me so much over the year ! 🥰
I want a timeless and classic look that will stand the test of time, but exactly what makes something timeless? What do you pick to have a timeless look?
Just want to say, as a Scandinavian, light/blond wood, as in birch, maple or light oak has been on trend since the 60´s here, or forever... I dont like dark wood, its in my blood. 😅
I'm finding it hard to decorate and update right now as the market is saturated with "trendy" decor, ( high and low),that every he, she and the lady have.lol🙃
Loved the video! But that spiked vase sort of reminds me of something Madonna might wear (or, rather, half of something Madonna might wear). Or maybe a new, huge, variant of the coronavirus?
Everything you named here was at some point in the last ten years, on trend. I think we need to change how we think of trends, and realize that trends are not a new concept, they've always been around and we all indulge in them in some way whether it's while the trend is hot or years after it's passed. Every single personal style is influenced by trends new and old, trends bring our attention to new things and give us the opportunity to discover new ways to love older items/trends. You never have to indulge in any trend you don't like, just keep doing you and let it pass. I think the only way to actually be "anti-trends" is to just do what you love no matter what is currently hot. There is no single item that is anti-trend or trend proof because at one point or another, it was on trend and it'll probably be on trend again in a new form just like everything else. You just can't live your life trying to keep up with whatever is currently considered "hot and trendy". Buy things that truly make you happy and work for your personal curated style, curate your home to suit you instead of what other people will think. A well curated and personalised home speaks much more than one that changes everytime the wind blows. Even Marie Antoinette set trends for both fashion and interior decor :)
Also investing in quality non trendy pieces. When I’ve bought cheaper pieces I always wanted to switch them out because they would just look it, or eventually wear down. While living in Italy we invested in some non trendy furniture. My favorite are our hutch and buffet/tv stand. They are made from old wood from Croatian barns, so there is some natural texture from being a building. They are stained black and the doors are made out of shaped Italian wrought iron. I will only part with these when I’m dead

Where did you got the black sculptural vase behind you, beside the lamp? It looks gorgeous.
Not a fan of white walls or white furniture. Love a moody room. Guess I’m not a trendy person. LOL
I love a neutral palette, so that I can add in different pops of color if and when I want to. It's also a lot cheaper than repainting or buying new furniture if I get bored. Haha.
White walls remind me of every apartment, ever.
I think what is being said in the video is that white walls are not trendy. And, I have to agree, they aren't. I think that they aren't always the most practical and can be sterile (when one doesn't know how to decorate with them) but they will always stand the test of time when it comes to using white paint (out or in) . Similar to the subway tile: You can get sick and tired of them, but they are not ever disappearing.
she’s saying they’re not trendy but instead a staple classic 😂
Looks open an airy. Love it
I have to totally agree with you that black and white will ALWAYS be in style.
Great video!
Thank you for such an informative video!❤
I’ve had every color of the rainbow on my walls for 20+ years. I’ve since married whitish walls and am totally content to stay here for a long while!!!!
I noitced the faux olive branches quite pricey, how many do we usually need for the small white pot?
where are you storage all your decor ? or what do you do with them?
What is your option on black interior doors, especially in a small home?
Great video! Completely off topic but I just wanna tell you how naturally beautiful you are. I'm 37 getting my crows feet and wrinkles, and I can't even express how feeing and liberating it is for me to see your face move when you get excited. I know, such an odd comment, but thank you for showing me a real human face on my computer today.
Please recommend a nice black blue color for a brick fireplace? Shall I paint the mantle which is very traditional black too to modernize it a bit!
Hello!! I would like to know what kind of flooring do you have in the main floor, I'm in the process of changing our solid hardwood red oak, and i want to stay away from the reddish/ orange colors. Thanks so much
Where could I find a classic linen fabric recliner sofa?
I’m okay with white walls but I HATE white sofas. My grandmother has always had white or ivory sofas and even as grown adults we were afraid to sit on them, they just get dirty way too quickly.
Good job!
Living in Europe I am tired of white walls in every apartment, but I think you balance it well with dramatic gloomy dark walls / accents..
Same here (Germany). If you rent a flat/apartment, its ist white, white, white. Fortunately, I live in my own house now and have no white walls.
Can you please share the colors you used in your house? 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’m in the middle of updating our home in CT. Second marriage and trying to merge our styles 🤦🏻♀️. 3 teenagers as well🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I love the color you used on your fireplace.
Example:
Chairs can usually be covered with twin-size sheets, while love seats and sofas require full-size or bigger.
You can place one sheet over the body of the furniture and use the second to cover cushions.
*Fabric tacks*
Fabric tacks for a creative touch, look for decorative ones - some are made with flowers, rhinestones, antique brass finishes and other designs.
*To prevent slippage*
Get some narrow cardboard tubes and wrap rubber bands around them. Push the tubes down into the couch’s crevices on top of the sheet, and the bands will work to hold the sheets in place.
Thank you, you got me thinking there’s away out of my brown sofa.
When you say white do you include off white/light beige?
How do I send a picture or is that possible?
Can you please tell me where that statue is from behind you?
Love the way it’s placed to gaze out of the window 😊
I'd like to know as well. It's beautiful.
Awww Valentina, you are a ray of sunshine to start my day ! Hugs ! Will be building a new home next year and I can't wait to decorate ! You have inspired me so much over the year ! 🥰
OMG V , I ORDERED THE SPIKE VASE, ARE YOU SERIOUS 😊
Which white paint with warm lighting for bedrooms? Thanks!
Where are those black leather trousers from that you are wearing in the clip of your bedroom?!
I want a timeless and classic look that will stand the test of time, but exactly what makes something timeless? What do you pick to have a timeless look?
What happened to some personality that an antique, vintage or classic....etc. piece that can help add character to a home?
Just want to say, as a Scandinavian, light/blond wood, as in birch, maple or light oak has been on trend since the 60´s here, or forever... I dont like dark wood, its in my blood. 😅
And I love dark wood😂 isn’t that what makes the world interesting and harmonious ❤
I'm finding it hard to decorate and update right now as the market is saturated with "trendy" decor, ( high and low),that every he, she and the lady have.lol🙃
The Amazon blanket is 60% off right now! $19.99! Bought it
Loved the video! But that spiked vase sort of reminds me of something Madonna might wear (or, rather, half of something Madonna might wear). Or maybe a new, huge, variant of the coronavirus?
Is that a real plant behind you,or is it fake. And where did you buy it
I think I saw that white pot, with the spikes, on the new super Mario movie
You have a large greek family, white a white couch, what's the reality with that combination? What's it like when you have a party? I mean the AFTERMATH 😳
Biutyfull😊
Trends… what everyone runs out to buy every season!!!
White sofa or chairs are just not practical...
Style is definitely subjective. I love the black curved vase, but the white one with the spikes is not my cup of tea!
Why did I think your walls were polar bear by behr😅
Why is Valentina always on point with her design?? I've learned so much from this channel. I also find trends annoying because i used to be into them :). Since following Valentina I'm more comfortable just thinking of things that i love rather than trends.

I think white is great if you live in a warm climate. If you live up where I do, the whole world is white 7 months out of the year, and it's blinding.
