Hey guys, I'm looking into doing some more weapons in the future, but I'm still a little unsure how that is going to fly with the algorithm. If it ends up being ok, what other weapons would you want to see me make?
dude literally reinvented a gun, with a bolt and working around problems like not accidentally igniting multiple rounds, or accidental multiple chamberings. it's really interesting to watch this, you're an absolute madman.
Well I mean, this is generally how guns work, but yes they are very cool. Feats of engineering in fact imagine a submachine gun doing the same thing but automatically and in less than a second
This is amazing! Quick note: A common thing people get wrong is calling the whole thing a bullet. The bullet is the projectile that leaves the barrel and hits the target. The entire thing is a cartridge or round, and the thing that comes out the side is a shell or casing. The little disk at the end is the primer, which gets hit by the firing pin and ignites the rest of the powder.
You could probably model the main explosion of a nuke using ballasts and bombs like in the video to simulate the chain reaction. Don't know how you would model the horrible things that happen away from ground zero though.

@@viiikalendasjulii4649 shoot the giant shotgun! HEY! Build the gun! Shoot the bullets! Destroy the castle! The new Giant Gun collection from LEGO City!
i think the barrel and moving the bolt may have been slightly better if you used smooth surface blocks, but otherwise this is a really cool shotgun build!
the thing about smooth surface blocks is that they're not actually smooth, just look like it. the best functionally smooth blocks according to others is a half-pipe, but it's unknown why he didn't use these (they'd at least look pretty good)
This person rediscovered wadding, chainfiring, etc. And then solved the problem, and still kept referring to the shells as bullets. You can tell this comes from engineering competence rather than familiarity with other people's solutions for guns
I would legitimately consider it, but I was running the shotgun at ~60% speed to prevent lag. I'd need to do some optimizations before I tried anything bigger
I absolutely love that because you made primers for each cartridge and the long profile of the flamethrower you accidentally stumbled into the real issue with firearms of out of battery discharges due to an exposed firing pin. I know people have commented about using smooth surface blocks, but another thing that could help with loading might be a feed ramp out of the magazine to help tip the cartridge into the barrel and avoid getting caught on a 90 degree ledge. It would also have been neat if the magazine was just pushed up by a spring passively without timers, but that would require feed lips or something to prevent the other rounds from feeding and I don't think the physics of the game would do very well with that kind of constant force being applied on multiple volatile loose objects. This was still incredible to see made. Far more than I would have thought possible to create.
He literally accidentally reinvented a normal shotgun shell, he made wadding, the shell, the ignition, the gunpowder, everything. This is why I love guns.
Oh my god he made a saiga without even knowing what it is. Dear god please make some real guns you accidentally created a simplified version of a saiga 12.
This really is brilliant. I can hardly explain. As someone who loves the mechs. of guns this was so- so interesting. knowing what you were going for & seeing it come to life blew my mind!
Yeah, he basically made took a mechanism from a real semi-automatic rifle. I wish I had this game, theoretically I could make an open-bolt submachine gun like a Luty or an MP-40.
If you plan on making other weapons in besiege, I recommend learning some stuff about firearms. Like, how they work. I noticed a lot of your problems that you had to deal with are actual problems with firearms throughout history. Also, i would recommend creating a chamber, since dragging the shell all the way to the front of the barrel is a pain, but also having pellets travel down the barrel allows the pellets to have a tighter spread, meaning more accurate shot. Im not asking you to learn like, every firearm I’m mostly recommending just basic structure of the systems inside a firearm.
I would have used a spring to pull up the magazine bottom instead of the rope wench. The springs allow you to only require a button press and a quick action rather than to manually crank the wench. However, you would then need to create a mechanism to stop the bullets getting in the way of the already loaded bullet, but I already have several ideas.
Seeing your solution to the magazine follower and bolt were quite neat as a gun nut. It seems like you haven't seen how those problems have been solved in their minutia yet you came to pretty similar answers great vid man.
You literally just walked through the engineering process of an entire shotgun, which is hilarious, because the ammo is curved and even has crimped ends just like how shells have the plastic in front of it and the load that is separated from the powder with a separator.
Not sure if it's even possible, but something along the lines of a missile or MLRS system would be very cool to see in besiege. Especially if they were guided :)
Hey Reid! I think it could benefit a little bit by giving just 2 minutes at the beginning to explain your goals and overall plan. For example, I don't really know how shotguns or even bullet casings work, so explaining that at the beginning would be nice. I'm glad to see this channel has really taken off! :)
He doesn't seem to either based on the terminology he is using but he made one and it's awesome. So I will explain a little, but it will sound like a lot. Generally shotguns are a smooth bore (they can be rifled but most aren't) that shoot either slugs (singular projectiles) or shot(multi projectiles) which he made. He also created what are commonly called "shells" which (from bottom to top) contain the primer (ignition device/spark), powder(thing that goes boom), wading/buffer, shot(the projectiles) and at the end a crimp which holds it all in place so it doesn't shake loose. So in summary Primer is set off, the powder goes boom, the buffer helps push the shot out past the crimp. I hope this helps and doesn't come off as rude or condescending.
@@lightswitch2622 he basically wanted to be able to hold it in one hand which was basically the barrel that was just the shell and the firing mechanism in one fist and just slam his hand on the end to make it fire. I knew then it would cause the plastic to shatter but it still stuck with me. You also have to realize this was in freshman year of high school
This was really sick! if there was a way to smooth out the inside of the barrel to stop them from getting stuck like that, it would've probably loaded faster and your design for the loading mechanism would've been smoother. I don't play besiege tho, so idk
For the magazine, you could have used sliders with a winch in order to prevent it from wiggling while it rises. Like, having the platform be connected to a few sliders on the underside, and the sliders would be connected to the main body of the magazine, So when you pull up with winches, it will only be able to move it along a single plane, instead of tilting or wiggling.
Next time you design a bullet, add a little hole at the end of the front instead of blocking it. That way it keeps the bullets from leaking out, while being weak enough to not be disruptive.
dude… i have to recommend people playground. it’s probably one of the best 2D physics games where you can make guns that can propel bullets in a pretty realistic way with certain settings. i’ve made a flintlock pistol with the most realistic mechanism possible and i can confirm it works very well if you build it right.
