- Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings was created in 1969 by Edward McLachlan.
The TV series was produced by FilmFair Productions London for Thames Television in 1974, and was narrated by Bernard Cribbins.
This is one of those vague memories that you aren't quite sure is real or false. I'm glad I could confirm that I actually experienced this thanks to UA-cam. Funny how I recalled the lyrics after nearly fifty years.
exactly my experience! tune rolling around in my head on/off for weeks...knew it was some show I'd seen as a kid, but that was about it...something I watched when I was maybe 4 years old....playing, word for word, note for note in my now 48 yr old head...human brain is amazing...
Yes! I finally looked this up because the song had been playing in my head on and off for years. How cool to find it!
I wasn't sure if it was a dream or not!
I still remember the lyrics. I’m 49!!
Sadly Bernard has just passed away. R.I.Paradise
Just hearing this makes me warm all over. I was a child in the seventies. What a carefree time
And I loved this program
Good times. I was born in 1970 and remember how carefree I had been.
I remember this too from when I was very little, about 5 years old
@@mailman87120 I was born in 1975. I remember watching this when I was about 5, from what I remember, this was on in 1980
Same..my names simon ❤️
@@mailman87120 71 here
This got me all emotional. The theme song makes me happy
Makes me cry
Did the same happy, sad nostalgic tears.
Same, and I'm an old man haha. It's an unexplainable joy from within, so rare. Glad there are others!
Love this.. so many memories. Such a simpler time. I'm glad that I got to be a kid in the 70's.
Me too
I can't believe I finally found this! I used to watch this on PBS as a kid (I'm 47). I love that Mike Myers based his character Simon on this for SNL.
Being born in '69 meant a 70's childhood was guaranteed, and man, was that ever fun. Shows like this, and dozens of other realities outside the house that can't be recreated anymore.
A tear came to my eye. A better time. PBS. I used to watch this every weekday. I wasn't in school yet. My mom would fix me a pb&j She would be in her room watching Days of our lives.
Omg…we experienced the same thing..a tear came to my eye too and yes my mom wud make a sandwich or cereal and leave in the room to look at Simon while she look at soap operas..I am 50 now and I sure missed those days
Me too. I have a tear too. I would escape from real life and find calm in Simon. ❤️
Quick question do you still remember the good night show
@Wretch Saved by Grace 🙄
@Wretch Saved by Grace you’re a wretch all right.
Today I awakened from a hard nap. This song was in my head... I had to dig deep. Wow I haven’t thought of Simon ever again in my adult life. Im a 70’s kid. Takes me back... not sure where this came from in my brain or why. Pretty cool! I miss the days of childhood and carelessly being a kid, watching cartoons. 😌
I know! The newness and in inocence, I was mezmorized by this...good times.
Use to be shown as part of the Captain Kangaroo show. ( usually on PBS stations in our area back in the 70's.) Great memories!!

Same here, sounds like we are of the same generation. All I can assume are deeply protected memories of our youth that are rediscovered from time to time
@@djohnson2571 uh huh
Strange how the brain works. I haven't seen or even thought about this in 45 yrs and there it is! That song! Triggered so many good memories! Thank you! 🤗
Can’t believe i found this - have had the song pop into my head spontaneously since I was 8....
This theme song, like a ghost in my mind all these years. I finally looked it up and I can't stop playing it. This song is one of my earliest memories, one of the few fond memories I have from a very sad childhood.
Me too. Just pieces of the song haunted my mind. I am glad I watched this and learned the song.
I can relate. How are you these days?
R.I.P Bernard Cribbons. I always remember your voice. And the programmes you started in. What a great age 93. He was a good person. Didn’t sell his soul.
Wow, that song just unlocked a core memory!
Man time flies….
This is a prime example of dreaming and achieving… Thoughts become things… Like Simon said things you draw come true.
Today I am 45 years old.. Searched for Simon to show my little daughter.. explained what I couldn't understand when I was at her age..
Thank you ❤️
I'm 43 and remember this from the 80s!

Wish you long & happy life
My wife watched this when she was a kid. I never heard of it, but she was humming the tune and we found it here.
That song has been in my head since the 70s !
Wow!!!! I remember this show from back in the day lol. I loved watching it. Takes me back. Those were the days 😂
Ikr! I loved this when I was a child, when the world was new and innocent and I was absolutely mezmorized by this show. I miss the newness and wonder of it all...good times, thanks for this.
I randomly get this song stuck in my head. What if what we draw and think up can come true?? That's manifesting yes??? 🤔 Dream BIG!!
Everyone ought to have a few fond memories like this
I literally had the memory of this cartoon unlocked today and it hasn’t been unlocked since almost 4 decades ago when I watched it last! Born in ‘79 and would watch this on Pinwheel on Nickelodeon growing up in the 80’s! I am so glad I came across this!
Pinwheel!!!!! I was born in 79 too. I could not for the life of me remember where I knew this cartoon from.
"Pinwheel spinning around"
Born in ‘79 too! Exactly the same thing.. I was almost able to sing the whole intro song. I freaking loved this cartoon as a kid and had a wild imagination so this show was perfect for me!
I named my boy Simon after this cartoon... in 2022. Only some remember...
Such an awesome memory and nostalgia! Thanks!
I was telling my friend about this and picturepages today. Born in 1973
الله … على ذكريات الطفولة ، كانت أيام جميلة لا حروب في العالم ولا أوبئة ولا فساد 😢💔
Used to absolutely love this as a boy. Watched on TVO in southern Ontario. Also used to air on PBS I'm pretty sure.
I was thinking TVO and PBS would have shown this in the mid-90s as I loved the older and international programs they would show but I’ve never seen Simon on either.
@@Jotinko When I watched it was the late 70s early 80s
It did show on PBS in the 80s at least, because that's when I remember seeing it. It didn't run often but I do remember it.
Oh how I miss my youth. Things were far more simple.
I know. We didn't have to take care of ourselves, we had such simple pleasures. Seeing cartoons, or Kermit the frog, or Fred Flintstone was enough to bring a smile
I I was born in 71' and have had very vague memories of this program for years. Somewhere in between did it exist, or did I make it up? Glimpses of this program and the tune would cross my mind from time to time as an adult. I am glad that I found out that this was a real program.
Life as a kid in the 70s was a beautiful thing.
I had exactly the same experience. It felt like something I once had dreamed, but I had to start looking.
I absolutely loved this!
This was such a huge part of my life when I was a kid. I was born in 1972. I really loved these. Maybe it's part of why I grew up and married a Brit. :D
Did they show this in the USA?
@@tdonovan4735 they did about 40 some years ago.
@@tdonovan4735 yes. I watched it when I was little. I was around 5, from what I remember
@@tdonovan4735 It was on Nickelodeon as part of a show called Pinwheel when I was a kid too.
I grew up on this show. A place and time where things were innocent . 70s baby.
2005 baby here. I dont know how I got here
Me too.. 😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
Times and places aren't innocent; only people. You dont miss the 70s you miss being a kid.
When were you born?
Yes, I remember seeing this Show both on CBC TV on Saturday with the UK Narrator and in the US it was featured on a Show called Captain Kangaroo but The "Captain" Narrated it. I think it was because they may have thought the Kids wouldn't understand the UK Man.
My wife watched this when she was a kid. I never knew about it. Now the song is stuckin my head. Cute cartoon.
Am I the only one that teared up listening/watching this?
No. I'm right here with you.
Yeah, we're remembering being little and loving cartoons like these. I was around 5 when I watched this, and seeing this now reminds me of then. How old were you when you saw this back then?
@@alvexok5523 good question. I was born in 71 and I remember seeing this during Captain kangaroo.
Not alone. Took me right back to being 5 years old.
Watched this as a kid in the 70s. Great memories!
Haven't thought about this in years and the song randomly popped in my head. Such a good lil" song.
I still LOVE theme song! Even after all these years.
I forgot how good the music was
me to
maybe he’s sulking cuz he’s forced to wear a tie in his own home!
Wow! A blast from the past… remember watching this with Captain Kangaroo. So glad to see & hear this bit of my childhood.
I remember Captain Kangaroo, but I remember Simon from Pinwheel
Love the theme song inspirational ❤
the smile on my face right now
At 56 years old I could still sing that opening song.
I was talking to my friend at work and he brought up Simon and I haven't remembered it for at Least 45 years. I had to look it up. So many memories.
They use to show this cartoon on Romper Room in the 80’s in the United States.. memories.
This really takes me back to early Nickelodeon circa 1985 .. 🖤
I legit bump this theme music in my car along with many other vintage songs of shows from childhood
My dad would sing this song radomly when i was a kid hes dead now and i always qanted to see what he was talking about and tgis is strange considering his favorites shows are family guy and south park
Maybe he got the song from the Saturday Night Live parody.
He was a kid once
I’m fairly certain that this aired on PBS in the DC area in the early 80’s. The early memories of this show are almost surreal.
Finally I solved the mystery of this song. I watched this show as a young boy and the song has been stuck in my head my whole life, only I confused this Simon with the one from the Chipmunks, so I sang it, “So my name is Simon Theodore, and I love my happy name…” Simon, Alvin and Theodore were the three Chipmunks.
Thank you for solving the mystery of a childhood memory. Subscribed!
I miss this so much!!!!! Where's that time machine lol, I wanna go!!!
This show is my very first memory of television seen at my grandparents’ house in 83 or 84 in Maryland most likely on PBS
Reruns. Show ran from 1974-76
I grew up with this show 😊 great memories
i wonder who sang the theme song for this! At 57 years old now i just remembered seeing this on captain Kangaroo back in 1975 when i was 9 years old!
Ahhh! Simon.i grew up to the land of chalk drawings as well...seems so long ago and when life seemed simple....Ahhh!..what I wouldn't give to be that kid again, who cut out cardboard wings just to fly off the head board onto the bed lo.
I love this video especially the theme song and Simon
Tears to my eyes and face, my childhood. At age 6,7,8
I wasn’t born in the 70s I was born in the 2000s. I’m glad I found this
Didn't grow up in the 70s, but my late mother in law told me about this show and how her mom watched it
ياااه على الايام،،، ،،كنت بشاهد الكارتون ده في 1980-1981
I remember watching this on the Noelle and Andy show in Denver Colorado back in the 70's.
My kids thought I was joking ......I grew up on this.....fond memories
One of my childhood favorites 😢
The inspiration for Mike Myers’ “Simon” sketches on SNL in the early 90’s
This is why I'm always singing this song!
Thx 4 bringing me back 2 better dayz , i was 7 . Thx bruh.😉
Just stumbled onto this....I haven't t seen this in so many years!
How something so simple lasting five minutes has turned me into an immotional wreck. I was 4 when this was on.
These were the days I still hum the tune to this day! Bernard was a brilliant man ❤❤❤
مازال الحن عالق في ذاكرتي وادندن به بين الحين والآخر ,ذكريات طفولة القناة السعودية الثانية . شكرا لكم .
R.I.P. Mr Cribbins.
This was my favorite cartoon
This was always my favorite part of the show as a kid
Public school in Columbus, Ohio in the late 60's. Loved Simon.
Thank you from saudi Arabia for this Memory
I was born in 78. But i saw reruns on PBS in the 80's. Our PBS in north Florida showed a lot of old 70's cartoons and British shows on Sunday (when other shows didn't show cartoons). Or sometimes in the afternoon on Saturday, once all the other Saturday Morning Cartoons lineups on various networks were over. Which was smart!
Bloody good tune
Old is Gold
Why use saddam dickhead ?
lol
I remember this show
Was also very popular in Croatia (Ex Yugoslavia) too.
I loved when Mike Myers used to spoof this on SNL
Why can't I find the music used in the cartoon? all of it, I don't think a soundtrack was ever released.
I was listening to Wendy Carlos Switched on Bach and it just made me remember a cartoon song named simon from my childhood...found it..not too many things I've forgotten ..but this was one
I wonder if Wendy Carlos plays the theme to these cartoons. Couldn't have been that many Moog players in the early 70's.
Good memories!!
Watched this in the 80's in Iran
Thank you.
Both "South Park" and "Spongebob Squarepants" had classic episodes with this same plot: an angry clone of the main character coming to life and wreaking havoc. The creators of those shows are mostly Gen X. So, was this the origin? (I faintly remember this cartoon from the 70's. Captain Kangaroo? I do remember the theme song, but that memory was helped by Mike Myers' parody of it for a number of early 90's SNL skits.)
I used to see this on pinwheel when I stayed at my aunts house. We didn’t have Nickelodeon at the time
I was born in 81 and somehow remember this
This song…I’m 4 years old again…
😢 يالله .. اللحن اللي مافارق بالي ابد
So little did I know, the secret was placed into my life as a child. The secret of manifesting anything.
Takes me back
2021 brings back memories
R.I.P. Bernard Cribbins.
I like this cartoon more, but when I was young, it looked a lot and it was very old
I haven’t watch that in almost 40 yrs....
RIP Bernard Cribbins!
Simon's got the chalk!
Bernard Cribbins also played Mr Hutchinson in Fawlty Towers!
So thats where Chalkzone on Nickelodeon got its idea.
I youtuber with almost a million subs only has three likes huh. Wow
That’s actually a rumor
ChalkZone co-creator Bill Burnett said in an interview that he wasn’t aware that the Simon cartoon existed until *after* ChalkZone started production
So it’s probably just a mere coincidence
Absolutely loved this
