You can tell that Simon was a new SNL character at that time, because when he asked the audience whether they wanted to see his drawings, at first they didn't respond. In later Simon skits, when he asked, the audience promptly applauded enthusiastically
Haha I was actually curious to know which one this was in the order when I was watching it. I did NOT catch that audience thing tho. Good lookin. But yeah, overall it just felt like an intro. “Intro to Simon” if you will…
this is Austin Powers when he was young!
It does kinda make sense considering the relationship between him and his dad... * thinking face *
YES!!!!
Well duh
🤔
Funny I can't stand Austin Powers but this cracked me up
i love how he was spoofing simon the chalk drawer and most people don't realize. it makes it extra funny.
I saw a clip of that he chalk drawer I instantly thought of this I never knew of Simon the chLk drawer till now.
Ha! "Draw-rings."
If anyone can remember, Myers did a Sprockets skit in 1990 where he had "Dieter's Dance Party." He read a list of music tracks on the charts and one of the tracks was "Mommy's with the Angels by Simon."
Simon looks like if every member of The Sex Pistols had a kid.
I'm not much of a Mike Myers fan, but this skit is honestly so lovely and sad. I keep coming back to it, and every now and then, I find myself humming "Well, hello, my name is Simon".
He ripped it from Simon's chalk drawing adventures.
Well ya know my name is Simon
And the things I draw come true...@@Belfastboi
He really was in tune with his British heritage.
aww sweet this aired back in 1990, simon must be all grown up now
and still making drawerings😂😂😂
This sketch was inspired by a popular UK 🇬🇧 cartoon called “Simon In The Land of Chalk Drawings “. The background music is the same.
This is actually sad. Poor kid - mom is deceased, dad neglects him, and he moves from hotel room to hotel room, with no place to call home. Such a lonely existence!
this is just a sketch. it isn't real.
@@atomeyes99 still, we can’t help but feel sad for fictional characters with tragic backstories. It’s a common fact that it’s human nature for humans to feel empathetic for living beings, real or not.
Time flies from when I saw these sketches live. 87-95 were the best years.
My heart feels broken
I couldn’t agree more!
I haven't watched these skits in a while, I never realized how sad Simon's life was.
Actually a parody of a British cartoon that came on Captain Kangaroo
Simon and his chalk pictures was a UK cartoon shown on Nickelodeons Pinwheel in the early 80s
And Captain Kangaroo!!..
The commitment to the character by having his armpits shaved did not go unnoticed by me. Bravo
I swear he's putting a hint of the outback on that British voice. 😁
I think you're hearing his native Liverpool accent.
OngThis just brought a flood of memories.
That song 😍
“Bum looker” 😂😂
People ask if the artwork on my walls is mine and I naturally respond "My name isn't Simon"
Nobody ever knows what to say to that
"Droorings" LOLOLOL
I'm from Bridlington. No, really!
“ARE YOU LOOKING AT MY BUM YOU BUM LOOKER?!” 😂
cheeky monkey 😂
Wow this is so much darker than I remember
I never knew you could hire somebody to bathe you then leave lol. Anyway this is just sad! Poor Simon
This really is Austin powers when he was a kid daddy wasn’t there
Uh-oh, someone has some daddy issues!
To change my underwear. Bum looker!
If you've got a daddy issue.... here's a daddy tissue.
A touching sketch from snl. Very british
This was funny when i was a kid. now this is sad as an adult.
His cousin is Kevin from the movie Home Alone.
I wonder how many people actually saw the cartoon this was parodying. Pretty sure most people just remember Simon from this sketch, not the actual show.
Everybody that was a kid in Ontario when Mike Myers was a kid in Ontario knows that song intimately.
I remember it on PBS down here in the southern states. Simon drew on I big black board and his drawings came to life.
Read All About It
The theme song is actually really nice. 😊
So brilliant and tragic.
Quite the subtleness parents can provide all the money in the world but it’s the quality time we spend with our children that’s “ priceless” Simon is still lonely with workaholic parents the moments we spend with loved ones that worth everything in gold your only a kid once an you will miss it if your not careful
this would be sad if it was true, neglect is pretty horriable
the script really isn't funny or clever at all... but Mike Myers is so funny I never realized he's saving the whole sketch
This must have been seen by Bernard Cribbins as he did the original “Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings” TV show that ACTUALLY aired on ITV, NOT the BBC
G.I Joe had to serve in nor then Ireland..brilliant
Actually, it was Action Man, not G.I. Joe 🤣
Mike Myers looks like Ewan Mcgregor in this
Mike is so funny
Pretty original
My teacher brought this up in class so now I'm watching this
Lmao same
Dror-rings!
Groovy!!...
I do drawing, but this hilarious even I'm Somerset
Austin Powers: Origins
And to think it was based on an actual cartoon named Simon only he draws with chalk.
perfection
drawrings
Awwww I feel bad for little Simon 😢
Crazy
Looks just like Seth MacFarland
Hoonigans Daily Transmission Tangents brought me here
😎Luv@Mike!😉
Covid lockdown drawings
He actually can draw his dad with 12 strokes. Yes, I am that OCD.
hahahahaha
I like to do jewelrings
nope
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
2023🌍 MARCH 💋
Philadelphia USA 🇺🇲🙏☦️😭❤️😇
I miss when SNL was funny.
His mommy is with the Angels Simon your mom is dead
Simon is a boy in a adult's body.
I bet know one got the Northern Ireland joke but me lol
The McZilla I got it. I’m sure lots of people did.
Well aren’t you clever, Mr “Know One”.
@@andrewdate4955It takes one to know one, but no one knows what this one's nose.
2
Did you know they stole the idea and music for this sketch from an actual British cartoon?
He needs the bad teeth
He’s supposed to be from Britain not the Appalachians.
@@kamandi1362Riiight. No bad teeth in England. Sure. Got. it.
The way he says 'draw-rings' is half cute half annoying.
Dam mike is white.
...and?
Snl has gotten so much better
Ugh. It's horrible Woke nonsense.
damn thats sad psycho problems not funny
not Meyers best effort.
What happened to SNL ? It's not worth watching anymore....
more of an Australian accent than English
He's Scottish, this is what happens when we try to do an English accent.
Yeah I am Australian and he is no where near an Australian accent
his parents are Liverpudlian, he grew up in canada
but his accent doesn't even sound Liverpudlian lmao
i thought at least one of his parents is Scottish
I bet this video will be banned in the near future. Hope I'm wrong.
his accent is quite bad lol
simon is annoying cus hes british
And you’re a twat because you’re not.
And you're annoying because you're an ignorant knob.
What an irritating theme song/tune...
Get back to yo Hip Hop, dawg.
Hey Mr.Myers, I used to watch this cartoon as a kid too: ua-cam.com/video/_98nEjz2zjM/v-deo.html
Weird, for some reason I thought that was funny back in the 90s.
