- As dusk approached, the final nestling in the 2023 Cornell Red-tailed Hawk nest decided to take off in style from the railing above the nest platform, landing on the roof of Rice Hall. A short hop and a flight found M3 back among its siblings as night approached.

A Red-tailed Hawk pair has been nesting above Cornell University’s athletic fields since 2012. They have made use of two different light towers for their nest sites. In 2012, 2015, and 2018-2021 they used a tower near Fernow Hall, and in 2013, 2014, and 2016, they used the tower nearest Weill Hall. We installed cameras at both of these sites to get a better look at the intimate behavior of these well-known birds as they raise their young amid the bustle of a busy campus.

I had been waiting all day for M3. I'm glad the little hawk finally fledged! This Cornell Live Cam has provided hours of joy for me and has also been a wonderful aid for stress relief. Watching these chicks grow up with the excellent parenting of Big Red and Arthur has truly been inspiring. Thank you all at Cornell Lab of Ornithology for your hard work and dedication to our feathered friends.

Dear Cornell Lab Bird Cams, I have been enthusiastically watching the red-tailed hawk babies for several years now, it was so beautiful to see the youngest finally fledge and reunite with his/her siblings. Thank you so much for running these live cams, they certainly capture priceless moments in nature. I have this burning question for you and hope to hear back if it's possible. I noticed this year bird banding was not done on the babies, any particular reason??.... Thank you!
