I put Gibson headers and free flow exhaust on my GMC pickup truck 4.3L. I picked up 5 miles to a gallon. I think part of it was the old Catalytic converts were clogged up and a bolt busted off the manafold due to back pressure. With the new headers and free flow exhaust I got lots of power and better gas mileage? is that is normal? S yes but he did mention the air filter which can get dirty fairly quickly, especially if u drive on dirt roads. And also many people don’t check their tire pressure very often.
So much this, but it doesn't work in the city. Not only I've gotten 1 liter more per 100kms but I noticed I don't even use the brakes that much anymore. I used to change them ever 2-3 years and last I looked the pads still had 2/3 life left.
Yeah you're right. Although in traffic this doesn't work, unless of course it's a steep road downwards for example.. My daily commute road is mainly highways but with some traffic (and full stops sometimes), my car now does 17 mpg - but with the A/C on. It's terrible for my salary though :'(
As I said in another Scotty video - I have preached this for 40 years! But most of the time it falls on deaf ears! When the car breaks down most owners do not want to hear what they did wrong or what they could have done to prevent it! They only want to know 3 things - "Can you make it go?" , "How much? , and "How long?"
And that's why they've been designing vehicles and lubricants to require less and less maintenance. Change your oil once a year, transmission fluid in five years, and no one even knows what a lube job is anymore. With EVs, people will hardly need to do any maintenance ever.
and if they only realized that if they spent a little on preventive maintenance, they could save themselves LOADS of money on unnecessary premature repairs. It's really just simple stuff too, fluids and getting to know the sounds your car typically makes. If it makes a weird sound, find out what it is and get it fixed or fix it yourself. Chain reaction, right? The leg bone's connected to the hip bone kinda thing. Many things affect something else connected to them.
Bill Does Stuff Forget it! You're tilting at windmills! I do airport transportation and my car is my living! I'm one of those crazy people that still changes oil every 3000 Miles, transmission fluid every 15000 miles (even more important because most cars do not have serviceable transmission filters) coolant every year, spark plugs and serpentine belt every 50,000 miles, wax every month (because my car has to look good for my job!). And I do all of the servicing MYSELF! In addition I have three other cars to look after. My 1999 Hyundai Accent has 172,000 miles on it with the original engine, clutch, and transmission! My 2000 Chevrolet S10 was purchased 7 years ago for $500 with 74274 miles on it and a DESTROYED ENGINE! The previous owner knew NOTHING about maintenance! So go ahead, claim your family time cuts in to your auto maintenance and some guy like me will come along and buy your destroyed car and fix it up or worse yet it will die a premature death and end up in the crusher! Either way, you'll be in PERPETUAL car payments!
Regular maintenance is the key to anything lasting a long time. I work in a manufacturing plant where our jobs depend on regular maintenance to succeed in our market. Downtime cost a whole lot more than regular maintenance does with cars as well as anything else that moves. Thanks Scotty.
You’re right on the dot for this one Scotty. I can attest to this myself with my 2006 BMW 325iA. It’s amazing how people don’t realize too changing fluids makes a significant difference. But one reason too is that people might also have to change their driving style. I changed mine and averaged 36mpg Highway from Charlotte, NC to Fredericksburg, VA in a car rated at 29mpg highway, and this was fully loaded as I was moving back from Houston (Willowbrook Area). My best return though was the sensors. I always say between 85k to 100k is the time to change the MAF and O2 sensors near the cats. Plus around that mileage they’re just about worn out anyway, so some preventative maintenance can also help prevent any possible future damage to your catalytic converters.
Anyone who thinks that Buick LeSabres aren't terrific cars is nuts. They last forever if you maintain them well. It's incredible how many of them are still on the road. Mine's a 1996, and every single time I drive in any of the cities in my area, I will encounter LeSabres all over the place. It's not unusual for me to be in a parking lot, or stopped at a red light, and be surrounded by three or four LeSabres, all in excellent condition and running well. Every mechanic I've ever been to has told me never to sell my car, because it's one of the best used cars out there.
Golden Grenadier Better yet, create a timeline of exactly how many years it's been at 239k. I cannot think of a video of his showing something different.
David Regan yeah. In the last 3 months it looks like he put 4 miles on the car unless he made the videos at the same time. Then since a video from almost 8 months ago he's seemed to have put 17 miles on it. And that was when he was still using his old intro.
my 2003 has almost 300k...mechanic needs lunch, well he has to do a test drive anyway so their personal cars never get used unless they drive to the bar
he just loves his car . i own a 2002 land cruiser with 300000 miles on it . original drivetrain and brag about it all the time because i love it and i am proud of it
Dont forget the EGR valve and O2 sensors. O2 sensors in my experience usually go out shortly after 100k miles no matter how good of a car it is. Those are 2 semi cheap and easy fixes Iv done on a few cars.
Stumbled and found this site by accident. I suscribed. I've got a 10 year old Chrysler convertible. It's been a good car. The problem has been the 3 accidents. People love to hit it. Driver door replaced. Trunk area redone twice. Teagards...
Spark plugs!!!! My 2014 silverado 2500hd was running rough. My mechanic said new spark plugs and i thought spark plugs dont fix anything!! Well i read in the manual that 97k should be changed i got 92k. Changed plugs and air filter and brand new!!! Turns out ac delco plugs good for 100k. Truck is brand new and getting 16 hwy and 12 pulling trailers again!! Luv it
Scotty is right. I’m very diligent about preventative maintenance. Probably more than I need actually. My feeling are that a little spent on the front end actually saves much more on the back end. Every repair I do is back to spec. Had a transmission expert tell me that he would be almost out of business if people would just follow the maintenance schedule.
''Here's my 2014 cat I bought, I named her Celica Toyota Kilmer. She gets good PPS (Pet per Smile-age) and has been a very reliable cat. So If you have cat problems and it isn't purring right, you got to pet her abit more! Or buy a good quality cat!''
This is a great video. I bought a used 2014 FIAT Panda with 160,000. I had all oils and fluids changed. it shifts like a dream now. But recently I noticed that the gas mileage is decreasing. I'm going to check the air filter today. I bought tools to remove. Fiat decided to put the air filter on the underside the beauty cover.
Old day Toyotas were gold. Original injectors still running. Thats why I still love my 1991 Toyota starlet Hatchback. Lots of love and best wishes Mr. Kilmer.
Oxygen sensors fail or get lazy messing up air fuel ratio , leading to poor fuel mileage, and if they tell computer to add to much fuel they can clog catalytic converter, big bucks then . Good video and as always have a great day. Keith
2nd, Hey Scotty how u been? I was around ur way back in May in Houston for a navy reunion with my friends, Houston is a nice city man and looking forward to coming back before the end of the year is over
damn, are you sure though? I floor the accelerator pedal in my old Toyota and do 180kph+ everyday. Could that really be the reason for my bad mileage? I think think the real reason for my poor gas mileage is due to fueling up on normal gas instead of premium gas. Yep, that's definitely the reason.
1993 Mazda b2600i extra cab pickup truck. My baby has 329,000+ miles on it and its my daily driver. Rated for about 18 mpg (highway), but actually gets closer to 25. Take care of them, and they take care of you.
People who drive with one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake drive me CRAZY. I know a guy who has needed THREE THOUSAND dollars’ worth of brake repairs in less than three years. And, you guessed it; he drives with one foot on the gas and one on the brake. Can you hear me screaming in pain through the computer? Whoever taught him to drive like that at his driving school should be arrested for murdering his brakes!
I use one foot for the gas and one for the brake but never do I put my left food and rest it on the brake while I'm driving unless I'm stopped at a stop light.
Never knew that cars get bad gas mileage as they age - I guess that is because I always have taken care of every car I have owned. Learned something today, thanks Scotty.
Hello @Scotty, I am your fan in Guatemala... I am always learning from you and you are a great benchmark for me when fixing my car or taking it to mechanics.. glad you are helping us with such amazing videos. I run a 1998 honda CRV with 248k miles on it, still pretty strong :)
I just cleaned the air intake and MAF sensor in my '89 CRX Si with 381k miles. I checked the fuel mileage yesterday, and I was able to achieve 33 MPG combined driving. Astonishing!
I got a 94 cougar v8 motor, I was getting around 9 to 10 miles to gallon, I got bottle of b12 at auto zone , my car didn't have power , my fuel pump was weak to, but since I put b12 in it, I'm getting good gas mileage and pump not weak, it may not work on everybody car but it sure work on mine, awesome stuff
My 2004 BMW 325i only got 15 MPG since I bought it 5 years ago. I cleaned the MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR and I'm getting around d 30+ now!!! (It never threw a fault code for anything. Including Oxygen Sensors.)
Another little trick I’ve learned to better mileage and I know people will say I’m crazy. Stick to one fuel brand. I had my 2014 Wrangler between 23-28 mpg and they’re only supposed to get 18-20. That’s with larger more aggressive tires. It takes about two or three months to notice a difference but give it a try. It’s well worth it.
Fuel brand has nothing to do with it. The federal government(in the USA) mandates a minimum quality standard of fuel that EVERY SINGLE gas company is required by law to follow. It is not worth it to splurge for Chevron or Shell gas, they don't do anything different than the cheaper stations. It is a WASTE of MONEY. Even Scotty said that in one of his videos. The only reason you should ever spend more money for gas is if your car requires premium because it has a high end Turbocharger or Supercharger and is a high end performance vehicle. Outside of that regular gas no matter where you get it is fine for most vehicles.
Scotty, I wrote about it earlier, but my message just got drown in comments. I used pure Aceton and WD-40 Contact cleaner for MAF cleaning. In both situations cleaning went perfectly and MAF sensor showed improved results. Acetone dissolves basic plastic so you need to be careful with that. Cars still goes like a charm, that proves it's not necessary to buy more expensive MAF cleaners. Can You make any comments on that? Many thanks, Dmitry
2004 Ford Freestar. Purchased in 2010 with 70k on the odometer, it initially was getting 16-18 mpg. Now, at 122k, I'm getting, consistently, 22-23 mpg. I use Motorcraft or Wix filters, Mobil 1 oil, Motorkote oil additive, Lucas Safeguard ethonal fuel treatment, and Shell or BP 87 octane fuel. Usually Shell.
In all my old automatic cars I owned, the overdrive never works in colder weather until the car is completely warmed up. Even when changing out the transmission fluid when it was still pretty clean. I wasted so much gas during the winter. I come to hate 4 speed automatic transmissions. I’m glad I’m back to a manual transmission now
The guy driving with his left foot on the brake pedal at all times is lying about "driving school taught him that". NO WAY. ALL DRIVING CLASSES TEACH YOU TO USE ONLY 1 FOOT, YOUR RIGHT FOOT, TO OPERATE ANY CAR WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. They even teach you why NOT to "use both feet".
Bought a 5 speed 2006 Accord Coupe new in 2006. Rated at 34mpg highway / 26mpg city. At 200k miles now I average 33 mpg no matter how I drive it. Of course I have always done regular maintenance, oil changes, air filters, brake rotors/pads etc. Good video though glad to know Scotty has cars that still get similar mpgs so I must be doing something right.
Here's another tip: Don't ride on the passing lane and keep right except to pass. It may not affect the left lane hog, but it affects others around them that want to pass, which brings down the overall lane efficiency and gas mileage for those other drivers. Not only that, they're creating a dangerous situation where road rage and accidents are imminent.
I have a Jeep Liberty CRD 11 years old. EPA rated 26mph. It gets 31mpg on the highway today. The only engine work on it was hose replacements, filter changes, oil changes. Diesel gets better with time.
Scotty awesome video. I have no idea about car troubleshooting or repairs. . I had a Nissan California 1988 or 89 Philippine issue. I had a mechanic/friend back in the late 1990’s in Manila tried to figure out where the water was coming from soaking my floor carpet wet when it rains hard. We kept stripping my car floor carpet and side door panels off but it never got better. Helping my friend work on my car before taught me a little bit. Anyways, there’s not so major mechanical problems on my car except for that and the idling. Seeing your vids and your untiring effort giving your viewers a bunch of ideas on how to take care of your own car is really delightful. I want to learn more of how to troubleshoot and take care of my own car. I saw a couple of your vids a month or so back and now I’m a new subscriber. More power to you and your channel from Illinois.
Even if I wasnt a BMW fanboy I'd still say Ford is trash, their even using plastic on important engine parts like BMW so they are really shady. I never trust American cars at least the Germans make quality engines that are durable unlike your typical Chevy, Ford gm
Yes Michael trower. I had same problem so got a straight 6 instead. My bmw 740i was nice but you needed a mortgage for fuel in the end. gas in England is dear!
I totally agree with Scotty on a lot of things, The only thing I disagree with is the dirty Air filter see back in the day when you had a clogged or dirty air filter the carburetor would spray more raw fuel, today’s fuel injected vehicles the mass airflow sensor if you have one will compensate for the dirty filter the only thing you’ll notice is total cylinder filling !
Scotty, I always love watching and learning from your videos. I love the pop up pictures you add in! Some of them are hilarious and I think will attract or keep younger viewers watching!
Totally agree with you but if you have high mileage on your vehicle and never changed the transmission fluid I suggest you to not ever touch it because once you change the transmission fluid that has a high miles and never been changed before there is a possibility that your trans will go out. I had my experience. for example I have a 1998 Toyota Avalon and I purchased it when it had 134,000 miles and as of right now it has 227,000 miles and I never touch that transmission fluid and never will and the vehicle is running perfectly. Also I purchased a 2006 Dodge Stratus with 23,000 miles in 2007 and I changed the transmission fluid once it hit 100,000 miles so that right there is good to go with no problems
I have a 07 Nissan Altima. After about 100,000 miles I decided to change the spark plugs. I was getting about 35 mpg. I wasn't sure what brand the car had in it so I bought a set of Champion plugs to go back in it. The car had NGK plugs and still looked to be in great shape so I went ahead and put the new Champions in any way. Now I avg. about 32 mpg. Next time I'll use what came out of it. Hard to believe a different plug could make that much difference.
Hey scotty, what's your opinion on fuel additives to clean injectors? Like fuel injector cleaner? I think it's like a 700ml bottle you add to a full tank
Here in the Rustbelt brakes are a prime culprit. Calipers tend to start sticking slightly anytime past 100,000 miles for me and just need replacing as they show signs of dragging. You never can really feel it so I use my hand on the rim near the middle when I stop or with a cheap handheld touchless temp gun, $20 HF... I want to start showing significantly hotter when I start then the rest I just order up a new one from Rock-auto or locally. You’ll notice also that the hot one will show more wear on the pads and the rest as well which is another sign. You can’t really rebuild them anymore like I did 40 years ago with a seal kit and why bother because they cost almost as much is a new rebuilt caliper assembly.
My 1972 Dodge Dart is 48 years old now and still get the MPGs it originally did. I get around 12.5 city on average. It has an HEI system lighter wheels and tires also have been contributing. I went 4 days which is around 30miles a day and only used 8 gallons which is around 20mpg average in a 48 year old car
So basically solution to all you problems is to buy a Toyota. And yes we in Pakistan love toyotas from old to brand new our roads are filled with corollas
ladies mechanic1 it’s not that it’s just so???? Generic. I had an 04 Corolla when I was 16 and later flipped it but at the time I didn’t realize it was a good car. I thought paying 20 for a tank was hard till I got a Lexus LS and it became 60
ladies mechanic1 except youre fucking wrong, theres tons of Americans that buy all kinds of Toyotas, from Corollas to Land Cruisers, not to mention a lot of them also drive a lot of the older Lexus
ladies mechanic1 I'm so stupid I don't know if the 66 Cadillac is going to last another fifty years. I would feel better about it if it had plastic bumpers and radiator tanks and freak wheel drive though.
Good video. a little maintenance goes a long way. my 94 Chevy s10 with the 4.3 tbi engine just turned over 254000 miles and I'm still getting an average of just over 20 mpg and it's still running strong.
my 1975 Chevrolet C20 custom deluxe camper special got 10 miles to the gallon when she was brand new and still gets 10 miles to the gallon. which is actually pretty good for a twin turbo Stroker
I think so, how much I don't know. When wash and wax your car, the body gets very smooth, and water repel fast, there is water in the air too. Reduce frictions after wax, I I think you get tiny bit better mpg, but it adds up over a year, or the life of you car. A car with no wax feels rough, after wax, it seals all the imperfections of the paint.
Invest your time and money in things that cost less to improve mpgs (correct tyre pressure, maintain the fuel system, drive train, drive efficiently, don't beat your car etc.).
28 MPG. Not bad. My 20 year old Geo gets around 42 - 48 MPG and is super easy to work on. Can't figure out why people don't like these cars, they're awesome.
2:04 which should be something I wish more people would do instead of just waiting for the leak to cause a bigger problem, thank god you came around my feed and now i do my own work, well most of it
Scotty your 100 percent correct on the mile maintenance . But that high gas mileage if you just use the the car of short trips. Go 2 miles to the store and back home. Please response if I am wrong or how to get better gas miles with short trip. A loyal fan.
I had a little volkswagon bug one time,I could take the fuel filter off easily and replace it myself. I was only a teenager....lol. And it did get clogged!! My brother talked me into buying it....and showed me how to replace the filter....so he wouldnt have to....lol. I think my problem on my Jeep now is the MAF sensor!
@@MChronicleSword constantly having your foot on the brake is a technique? Does it have a name by any chance? Perhaps, the "drive like a mentally challenged" technique?
My 17 year old car has 228,000 and it does just as good if not sometimes better than when it was first made. Of course I don't jam the throttle from stop to stop, and it's been well maintained.
I had 2,700 on my last Castrol high mileage oil change...oil was low and I put in some quaker state since it was going in for an oil change the next weekend....car started running rough and warning light went on within 20 miles...ran it in for an oil change the next day and two days later, the warning light magically was gone...and it was running smooth again...98 Camry 225,000...oil counts on these old cars...concur
Anthony h Agree to disagree. GM has made a 39? MPG car that does 0-60 in 4 seconds. Please let us know when Toyota manages that one. PS. electric cars don't count
I see a lot of old GM cars and I bet you we won't see any gen2 Prius' in a few years. We're talking about old Toyotas. Yes, they're good. Modern ones aren't that good anymore. It's like with the Mercedes Benz's. Great cars in the day, now just overpriced if you buy the common mug classes.
My 2000 Camry with a 2.2 L was rated 21 City 31 Highway but I consistently get 35 MPG on the highway even after 404 k miles on her. I use top tier rated 87 octane and have General altimax nitrogen filled low resistance tires.

I have a 02 Buick le sabré with 300000 and it’s running sharp I do regular maintenance very happy with it.
have a 97 GTP S/C. Love it.
I HAVE 98 LESAbre 110000 runs great
Anyone who thinks that Buick LeSabres aren't terrific cars is nuts.
Surprising
Scotty, you are a man of true progress ! Lots love from Greece. Hope God protect you at all times.
Make a compilation of you mentioning how many miles your celica has.
David Regan Yeah I've been wondering about that too.
he just loves his car . i own a 2002 land cruiser with 300000 miles on it . original drivetrain and brag about it all the time because i love it and i am proud of it
Dont forget the EGR valve and O2 sensors. O2 sensors in my experience usually go out shortly after 100k miles no matter how good of a car it is. Those are 2 semi cheap and easy fixes Iv done on a few cars.
Can 02 sensors be bad before they trigger an engine light, or ??
@@graybenyo6735 definitely
Scotty, dude, do you ever drive your car? In all the videos it has 239,000 miles lol
Paris He said in another video he doesn't go out as much
that's just his BS car to make people think he's poor. he has a Maybach in the garage in the back.
chieftp actual rich people drive cheap cars
zhbvenkhoReload is that what you tell yourself to feel better about being poor?
my great uncle drives caddis, benzes and tahoes. and he's rich beeeeeeeeeeeeyatch
Stumbled and found this site by accident. I suscribed. I've got a 10 year old Chrysler convertible. It's been a good car. The problem has been the 3 accidents. People love to hit it. Driver door replaced. Trunk area redone twice. Teagards...
Scotty I think we all want to see a video called “everything I DISLIKE about my Toyota celica. I’m genuinely interested!
MrClassicDoctorWho I reckon that would be a brief video. Lol
I agree but I’d still be interested haha maybe it has really inconvenient cup holders or just terrible floor mats. I need answers
Luv it
Run some Mmo or b12 chemtool through it on occassion.
Great advise; great cat 5:41 🐈 You make it look easy to cram that much information into 6 minutes! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!

Men that love cats are great guys!!!😼✔
If you listen at 1.5 x speed, then he's crammed even more info into only 4 minutes 😂

Kilmer.
Very true I have 1997 Toyota starlet with 60 thousand miles and still runs like a Swiss watch 😜👍🇦🇺
That Toyota Matrix in the video was made with General Motors side by side with the Corolla
I was around ur way back in May in Houston for a navy reunion with my friends, Houston is a nice city man and looking forward to coming back before the end of the year is over
hello and glad to hear it!
you always rock mr.kilmer you waste no time and inform us well without boring , while the rest do exactly the opposite ,,much respect from SUDAN
Another tip: you don’t have to drive like a maniac, hard acceleration, stepping on the brakes, speeding etc. Drive conservatively
Oh, maybe that explains it. Damn.
damn, are you sure though? I floor the accelerator pedal in my old Toyota and do 180kph+ everyday. Could that really be the reason for my bad mileage? I think think the real reason for my poor gas mileage is due to fueling up on normal gas instead of premium gas. Yep, that's definitely the reason.
Nope. Wrong. Maniac is the way to go. 😀
Driving conservatively is fine as long as you're not in the left lane in the way of this maniac! 🤣
or, or, you can drive like a granny, oh wait, somebody already said it.
Unless you are in a narrow residential area with allot of kids you shouldn't have your foot anywhere near the brakes while accelerating.
1notgilty in Mexico everybody drives with one foot on gas and one foot on brake.everybody drives standard but the way
My grandma drove like that the only person I know who drove with 2 feet and getting in the car with her was a death wish.
Sammy Hagar method
You saved me with my Jeep before.i love your content man . Your voice and presence is awesome. You should get into entertainment lol
No way! Im gonna try that
Another little trick I’ve learned to better mileage and I know people will say I’m crazy.
Proper wheel balance and alignment is key
Omg you have the most useful car information I've ever seen. Thanks Scotty
Many thanks,
Dmitry
Scotty, you couldn't have uploaded this at a more better time. This is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you.
So, you also drive with the foot on the brake?
principetanguero I thought left foot braking helps the lap time
Helps the lap time if you are in a circuit of competition. in the streets or highway is not necessary to abuse the motor or clutch

Great vid Scotty. Ile be watching this a few times to memorize it all.
Live Life good idea. I should watch this a few times and act!
Jody Hakala I dont see why not 👍
Thank you for all your support and I love the channel.
I'm pretty sure 02 sensors have the biggest impact on fuel economy as well as tire pressure and how the driver drives the vehicle
Fantastic tips from the master Scotty!
Ozzstar he is the Master!! 👍
In all my old automatic cars I owned, the overdrive never works in colder weather until the car is completely warmed up. Even when changing out the transmission fluid when it was still pretty clean. I wasted so much gas during the winter. I come to hate 4 speed automatic transmissions. I’m glad I’m back to a manual transmission now
Scotty The Zeus of mechanics
5:45. Scotty's kitty uses the walkway instead of walking on the gravel. Smart kitty!
I love Scotty's energy, never a dull moment!
My cars gets worse gas mileage cause my foot goes to the floor alot love to feel the v8 power lol
Michael Trower Ford sucks
Bmw M3 e46 bmw fanboy
Bmw M3 e46 bmw = bring mama's wallet your parents bought that for you didn't they troll
I totally agree with Scotty on a lot of things, The only thing I disagree with is the dirty Air filter see back in the day when you had a clogged or dirty air filter the carburetor would spray more raw fuel, today’s fuel injected vehicles the mass airflow sensor if you have one will compensate for the dirty filter the only thing you’ll notice is total cylinder filling !
i love this guy, so genuine
Keep your tire pressure at the right level and check often.
I check mine once a week.

My 44 year old truck was rated for 13 MPG combined, I'm getting about 15-16. The power of conservative driving!
scottie-best car guy guide
Lucas deep clean efi cleaner. The Best
Redex. Watch the top gear UA-cam put 6mpg back on a car after 1 use
Excellent sound advice, from a Master.
Thank you Scotty-
My 1972 Dodge Dart is 48 years old now and still get the MPGs it originally did.
I thought paying 20 for a tank was hard till I got a Lexus LS and it became 60
no they just want some 6 litre engine with garbage MPG, what a waste of money
ladies mechanic1 except youre fucking wrong, theres tons of Americans that buy all kinds of Toyotas, from Corollas to Land Cruisers, not to mention a lot of them also drive a lot of the older Lexus
Covert Person youre out of your mind if you think thats true
ladies mechanic1 I'm so stupid I don't know if the 66 Cadillac is going to last another fifty years.
Great video! It's all about maintenance.
my 1975 Chevrolet C20 custom deluxe camper special got 10 miles to the gallon when she was brand new and still gets 10 miles to the gallon. which is actually pretty good for a twin turbo Stroker
Does washing and waxing help reduce enough drag to give better mileage on the hwy?
I think so, how much I don't know. When wash and wax your car, the body gets very smooth, and water repel fast, there is water in the air too. Reduce frictions after wax, I I think you get tiny bit better mpg, but it adds up over a year, or the life of you car.
A car with no wax feels rough, after wax, it seals all the imperfections of the paint.
NASCAR waxes their race cars, hoping to get better performance.
Invest your time and money in things that cost less to improve mpgs (correct tyre pressure, maintain the fuel system, drive train, drive efficiently, don't beat your car etc.).
Mr. Skeptical yes don't forget to remove your hood doors and trunk and seats you also make the car lighter and it'll get even better gas mileage
@@nepa3vapeclub297 drill some holes in the frame too
28 MPG. Not bad. My 20 year old Geo gets around 42 - 48 MPG and is super easy to work on. Can't figure out why people don't like these cars, they're awesome.
Can you say Quadrajet? Look at the secondaries on that carb.....750cfm?
King Miura that was a computer controlled quadrajet they are made on 800 cfm bodies with a limiter on the secondaries.
Scotty knows how to explain this stuff in plain english. This is why I like this channel.

Hi Scotty. Great advice as always.
What are your thoughts on injector cleaners in the form of fuel additives?
Viren vs
Think he has a video on this. Look for fuel/gas additives video with Scotty Kilmer.
Scotty your 100 percent correct on the mile maintenance . But that high gas mileage if you just use the the car of short trips. Go 2 miles to the store and back home. Please response if I am wrong or how to get better gas miles with short trip. A loyal fan.
There is alot of mechanics in the comments with 40 plus years of experience. good job UA-cam
I dig your videos. Straightforward, informative, and honest. Thanks for being here. Have you ever thought about being an automotive shop instructor?
I never heard "bad gas mileage" so often in a video 😂
I had a little volkswagon bug one time,I could take the fuel filter off easily and replace it myself. I was only a teenager....lol. And it did get clogged!! My brother talked me into buying it....and showed me how to replace the filter....so he wouldnt have to....lol. I think my problem on my Jeep now is the MAF sensor!
I thought it had to do with the poor ethanol fuel mixture.
My 1998 4Runner still gets originally rated gas mileage. It’s 15 city and 18 highway. That’s what Scotty means by a well-made car.
that BMW guy hahahahahah
To make matters worse, John from honestjohn uk also recommends people to drive automatic cars like that. :(
He must have been trolling hard. Never heard or seen anyone drive with their foot on the brake all the time.
Vitamin B it's called left foot braking. A race driving technique that's largely useless on the street.
@@MChronicleSword constantly having your foot on the brake is a technique? Does it have a name by any chance? Perhaps, the "drive like a mentally challenged" technique?
Vitamin B sure, if you want to call it that. I did say it's useless on the street
My 17 year old car has 228,000 and it does just as good if not sometimes better than when it was first made. Of course I don't jam the throttle from stop to stop, and it's been well maintained.
What if the exhaust is as bad as yours?
3:39 I've found that putting in a new, clean air filter makes the biggest difference. And it's pretty cheap and easy.
Scotty's Cat at 5:45 wonder if he still gets great gas mileage : )

Anthony h Agree to disagree. GM has made a 39? MPG car that does 0-60 in 4 seconds. Please let us know when Toyota manages that one. PS. electric cars don't count
I see a lot of old GM cars and I bet you we won't see any gen2 Prius' in a few years. We're talking about old Toyotas. Yes, they're good. Modern ones aren't that good anymore. It's like with the Mercedes Benz's. Great cars in the day, now just overpriced if you buy the common mug classes.
@PGm issa hooked on phonics?
Aye 98 prizm right here still running strong
My 2000 Camry with a 2.2 L was rated 21 City 31 Highway but I consistently get 35 MPG on the highway even after 404 k miles on her. I use top tier rated 87 octane and have General altimax nitrogen filled low resistance tires.
