    *PLEASE NOTE: YOU MAY HAVE AN UPDATED MODEL, NO WATER COMES OUT 🙂*
    *Handy page for the Sage Barista Express* - pog.io/sage-barista-express/ - let me know if you think we should add anything else to the page. TIP: Write '95 @ done.co.uk' on a sticker and put on your machine out of site to get quick supplies or guides for cleaning, descaling etc.

    Quick pointer for anyone who like me followed the instructions and it didn’t really work like this.
    Sage / Breville updated this I think in 2019 but never updated the instruction manual so if you got your machine after that you will have the same issue as me.
    You do everything exactly like the video only difference is the pressure maxes out and no water comes out. On the older machines there is a small hole in the rubber cleaning thing but on the newer ones there isn’t.
    So if you were like me and panicked when it was making crazy pressure and no water coming out, don’t worry, it’s meant to do that!

    I just found out that meanwhile Sage has improved the cleaning procedure. Now they are doing it with low pressure hence there is no hole in the rubber disc and no water in the pot. The cleaning instructions in the manual refer still to the old procedure which causes irritations to those who own the newer model.

    Thanks this was my first port of call due to good clear instructions. Unfortunately I was not aware that the used water from mine discharged straight into the drip tray. With a bit of searching I found others showing it discharged into the drip tray, but their accents are difficult to understand. So I got there in the end. Thanks for the link to the tabs too. So others are aware. This is out of date. The water no longer comes out the way that's shown here. I removed the drip tray to put a saucepan down to collect the water. It doesn't come out where the coffee comes out. On newer models it comes out somepoint at the bottom and directly into the drip tray. So empty your drip tray beforehand and make sure it's in place.

    Okay, I have a new Breville Infuser espresso machine. I've used it for a few weeks, without many issues, other than getting the grind settings for the amount of coffee and coarseness adjusted (the manual for my Breville Smart Grinder Pro, recommended 17.8 seconds of grind time, at the 12 espresso setting, however, the coffee came through VERY SLOWLY, and at too much pressure, at or past the second screw on the dial. I adjust it to 14.8 seconds and setting 20 for coarseness (after MANY trials tweaking it), and the pressure now is just shy of the first screw, and produces a very good espresso/lattes. Today, when I turned the machine on, the cleaning/descaling light was flashing, indicating that a cleaning cycle of the brew head should be done. I read the instructions, watched a video, inserted the single cup filter into the portafilter, inserted the cleaning disk with the tab side up, as well as the cleaning tablet, in the round space provided for it. I locked the portafilter into place on the machine, turned on the machine (with the water tank full), placed a large bowl under the portafilter (because the instructions and online videos showed LOTS of water running through the portafilter/filter/cleaning disk/tablet set up, as the machine went through the cleaning cycle). I simultaneously pressed both the single/double shot buttons, as well as the power button. The machine went into cleaning mode for about 5 minutes, and beeped once the cycle was complete. During the cleaning cycle NO WATER at all, went through the portafilter, NONE! So, I reread the instructions, looked through the trouble shooting pages in the manual, I even looked on Breville's site, there was NOTHING at all on either the problem, or how to fix it. So, I looked online to see if anyone else was having the same problem. And yes, yes there were! However, NOONE gave a complete response, as to what the exact problem was, and how the problem was corrected. Many people online gave suggestions such as "try the dual walled single filter", maybe the disk shouldn't be pressed down, etc." None of those suggestions helped. So, I called Breville's online helpline number. The menu of services included one for dealing with drip coffee machines (a helpline that could assist 24/7) but specifically stated, for people that own espresso machines, to call back M-F, during regular office hours. Really?! I was going to stay on the line, simply to complain about no service being available, but after 41 minutes of waiting for an agent to help me, I was disconnected, hearing a message to call back later. Again, REALLY?!!! So, I was irritated and called back. Tonya answered, and listened to my concerns, she tried to trouble shoot the problem, and agreed, that I had likely received a cleaning disk, that was probably meant to be packaged with a European version of the machine. Someone here commenting, had said that they called customer service, and was told that European machines do not have water flowing through the portafilter during the cleaning process, but American models, most certainly should have water flowing through the portafilter during cleaning. So, Tonya said that should would ship an American cleaning disk to me (one with a hole in it), and also consult with her colleagues on Monday (when the espresso experts are there), to make sure that the wrong disk was the problem. I also mentioned how the machine doesn't have water flowing through the brew head very quickly (drops kind of dripping at a very moderate rate, and the suggested grinder setting, being way off, as far as having a decent flow during brewing). She also is going to have an espresso machine specialist call me on Monday, to make sure that all of the problems had been addressed and dealt with properly/thoroughly. I should mention, that during the cleaning cyle, where no water flowed through the portafilter, water did collect in the drip tray. Also, the cleaning tablet did dissolve, but remnants of it remained on the cleaning disk. I asked Tonya if running the machine through the clean cycle twice, with no water flowing through, could possibly damage the machine. She said that the machines are designed to self purge, any time that it needs to be cooled down, and that no damage should have occurred. So, for now, it appears that the problem, was receiving a cleaning disk, that did not have a hole in the center, thus no water could go through. Sorry for the LONG reply, but I hope that it is of some help, to anyone else that is having the same problem, take care.

      @@miguelandjillpeixe1814 As I indicated, I've heard conflicting information, from others online, from Breville's instructions, and even their own Customer Service. Either they shipped the wrong discs, or, they didn't update their instruction manuals/online website. As I stated, I called customer service. They did not have espresso experts working, they are only available M-F during regular working hours. Their knee jerk response, was to think that the discs should have had holes in them, as that's what the instructions, whether in the manual, or online, indicate. However, they weren't sure, were going to document my concerns, contact someone that knows, and get back to me by Monday. Shockingly, they told me that nobody else, as far as they knew, had ever called in with a similar concern/question. I almost find that hard to believe, as I've seen several comments online about people saying that water did not flow through their portafilters during the cleaning cycle either. Again, my and your cleaning discs do NOT have holes in them, so there's no way for water to flow through the filter/disc/tablet and portafilter. If Breville made a change, they should have updated BOTH their instruction manuals, website, and made their staff aware of any such change. If a change was not made, and they shipped defective discs, without holes in them, they should have been aware of that as well. I also find it odd that they have knowledgeable staff available for their other products, but not espresso machines, which are some of their higher end/value products, what's up with that?!!! Breville needs to do better!

    • @johnlantz3771
      @johnlantz3771 5 років тому

      @@miguelandjillpeixe1814 I literally just got off the phone with an espresso expert from Breville. She informed me that the Breville Infuser (and several other models including the Barista) SHOULD now have a SOLID cleaning disc, WITHOUT a hole in it. She said that now, the cleaning process is VERY different than it previously was. The new method is to have the cleaning tablet and solution, dissolve and backflow through the machine, and distribute the cleaning solution into the DRIP TRAY and NOT come out of the portafilter, at all. So, there is no problem with either the machine, or the cleaning disc, they are operating as they are now supposed to.
      I asked why Breville hadn't made any change to their instruction manuals, online tutorials, or even their website, or any other communication, to inform their customers of the rather significant change. She said that the new procedure has only been around for the last few months, that they are aware of it, and are getting around to making the necessary changes. I asked why they don't take about 5 minutes and get their I-T staff on it, thereby, at least making a change to the instructions on their website, as well as putting this new information into their FAQ area of their website.
      She got rather defensive, stating how it was a comprehensive change that takes time, and again, they are aware of, and getting around to it. I reminded her, that it's the manufacturer's responsibility to inform and educate their customers, and not the other way around, and that Breville really dropped the ball by not making basic informational changes (via their website instructions, FAQ sections) at the very least. I informed her that there were many people experiencing this same issue, being told by their instruction manual, website and tutorials one thing, when it now should actually be done differently, at least as to where the significant amount of water is to flow during the cleaning process. I also told her, that as a result of this, there was a lot of misinformation being suggested online, as how to correct the "problem", that actually doesn't exist. Also, there have been reports online regarding various and similar issues that people have been having with their products, for years.
      I reminded her that the only problem, was on Breville's end, by making significant changes to their instructions without informing their customers from the beginning, BEORE they ship such products, so, in that regard, they really dropped the ball. She went on to saying how the internet was a "rabbit hole" where there's lots of misinformation, to which I agreed. But with all the information that's on it, both good and bad, Breville hadn't effectively done anything, either proactive, or even reactive, to correct the misinformation, that they themselves, were responsible for causing.
      Further, I also informed her, that when I called their customer service number for assistance, virtually all of their other products have assistance 24/7, but specifically state that assistance for their espresso machines, are only available M - F, during regular office hours. Now when I called the number anyway, on a Saturday, mid-afternoon, after being on the line for 42 minutes waiting, I was disconnected. I called back in, got through to customer service, and the lady there was actually very willing to assist me. She admitted that she didn't know all that much about espresso machines, had not ever heard anything about the issues that I brought up, but would do her best to help me. She took down the information/concerns, and passed it along to the espresso team, which got back to me today, Monday morning, which I do appreciate. When I got the call today, I informed their representative that it's very bad form, bad for business actually, to not only NOT have the proper and RELEVANT information available, at least online, but also, of all their various products that they produce and sell, why would they not also 24/7 customer service, for their customers that are on average, spending a LOT more than the average customer, as espresso machines are one of their higher end products. She had no decent answer for that, other than to again say that they are working on making the informational changes, to update the procedure/expectations, for how the cleaning process should now work. Again, the lady that helped me initially at customer service, Tonya, was great, the lady that called me back today (I forgot to ask her name), has a lot to say, did call me back in a timely manner, but as far as effectively responding to customer concerns, just doesn't get it. Hopefully that changes soon, take care.

      +Ferhat Kara Hi, Ferhat. I am a fellow Breville espresso machine user. My model is the Breville Infuser, which I think has something in common with the Barista Express. As you'll see in John Lantz's comment with this video, your machine is working fine. They updated the blind rubber disc, so that instead of the water coming from the portafilter into your container, it will disperse into the drip tray. They didn't update the instruction manual or instruction videos on their end.

    hello, I have the same machine and now I had to do the cleaning process. I did everything the same way you did, but no water came out of the screen holder. The water tank was still full after the process. Have you ever had that?

      @@alexandermuller6087 i have googled online - and it seems that other/some discs have a hole in the centre. Mine doesn't, I assume yours doesn't too. Wondering, if it is a quality control problem. Making a hole in the disc would be easy. Please keep us updated. Thanks!

      I called customer service yesterday and they told me that the new machines in Europe had been converted so that nothing would go through anymore. This would be more effective for cleaning. However, the cleaning cycle should be carried out 2-3 times until the tablet is dissolved. In Australia, on the other hand, water has to run out.

    • @gordi555
      @gordi555  4 роки тому

      Not really for me, as I do a set amount grind first (push in and release) and then do a manual one after to get the exact amount of coffee. That way there is not spill over of coffee grinds onto the tray and nothing to clean up. Lots of people just do one big grind and there is spillage once they tamper down. Also, remember to wash out the bottom tray bits once a week with soap and water in the sink to keep it fresh.

      My cleaning disc did NOT have a hole in it. No water came through the portafilter, and water collected by the machine backflowing, into the drip tray during the cleaning cycle. At this moment, I do NOT know if they machine is operating properly, or, if they shipped the wrong cleaning disc. I'll know by Monday, when Breville gets back to me with an answer. Either they shipped the wrong cleaning disc, or, they forgot to update their instruction manual and website. Either way, they dropped the ball.

    Ich bin mit der Anleitung verrückt geworden und habe an meinem Verstand gezweifelt. Kurz: bei mir kommt kein Wasser aus dem Siebträger. Aber das soll auch so sein! man möge berücksichtigen, dass die Gummierung kein Loch hat und somit verhindern soll, dass Wasser durchkommt. Die Maschine wird dennoch gespült, aber im Inneren. Das Wasser läuft unten in den Auffangbehälter der Maschine. Also alles gut.
