I was diagnosed with AML in June of 1996. I was 32 and had 2 small children ages 2 and 4. I fought hard to live for them. During my treatment every thing that could go wrong went wrong. I'm really sorry for the loss of your friend. We can understand how you're feeling and why you would be looking for answers about what happened. Firstly, it's important to know that the COVID-19 vaccines have been thoroughly tested and have been found to be safe and effective at preventing COVID-19 and its complications. While it's natural to wonder if there might be a link between the vaccines and your friend's diagnosis of AML, there's currently no scientific evidence to suggest such a connection. My Grandfather (aged 80) is diagnosed with AML in June 23 with RUNX1 mutation. Doctor suggested low intensity chemo (Decitabine + Venetoclax) to prevent it and help him to have a good quality of life. They rejected the idea of Bone Marrow Transplation and told that it can't be cured at this age. He don't have any comorbodities and is physically fit. Looking for a second opinion. Can anyone help here ?
Hi there! I'm very sorry to hear about your grandfather. A second opinion is a great idea! I recommend you search our specialist directory ( healthtree.org/aml/community/directory ) to find a second opinion from AML specialists near you!
KU Medical Center specializes in leukemia and may be a good option. They treated my husband.
A transplant is very very hard on the body. That's why they don't usually do it with elderly.
