    My wife never flew much in small planes, or big ones either for that matter, she wasn't sure what to think sitting in the front of a cub when I opened the window and door for a better view. But she handled it well. Fun stuff!

      @@JollyRogerAviation if you're a PNW pilot, you end up flying like that sometimes. I've done it, it's nicer doing it on floats low over the water like that, you always have an out.
      It still looked fun!

    Great video, it was funny to see Nicole's facial expressions during the time lapse on your way to your destination. I am not a fan of heights either but I got a ride in an Extra EA-300 with an ex-F-18 pilot flying with an Air Combat company. It was too awesome to be scared but I was beat down bad when I got back, I was done for the day.

    I did nearly 10 years of fly in fly out work in the mining industry in Western Australia and the more I flew the less I liked it.
    Your explanation regarding a river flow makes sense and has put me at ease a little bit, sometimes it’s the way things are explained.

    Don't ask me how I know this...
    But the answer is NOT, when you are the pilot, and you fly over a marker beacon, and hear the beeping, to point at the flashing light and say "Crap, what's that?!?!"
    I said don't ask.

    You didn't go bungy jumping because you don't trust man made sh*t! lol Your in a man made plane, race a man made boat and everything we as humans use is man made for the most part. I just caught that as hilarious. Love the content, keep it up!

    • @JollyRogerAviation
      @JollyRogerAviation  Рік тому +1

      I knew someone would catch that! Let me explain lol. I guess man-made without any control. A plane or a boat is man made but I have some control over it. A bungee I feel like you’re just tempting fate.

    Next time you fly with Nicole have her run the checklist with you. I find the more involved they are the better when they’re scared, nervous or uneasy. Ask her if she wants to actually take the controls for a couple minutes. I really like your technique of asking her questions and getting her distracted. That works too for sure! Great video and keep up the awesome work!

    I remember my first time going up in a single engine Cessna, when I was an early teen, as a passenger. I think what I was having a difficult time with was there is no way to have any sense of control in that situation from the passengers pov. probably coupled with a strong fear of heights. I think now that if I were to be the one with feel of the controls of the plane it would be a completely different sensation for my perception of the experience. That being said I would probably be a completely different kind of nervous for that!
    Great video Eric! I'm glad she didn't lose it...!

    Different fears, different triggers. I'm a low-time pilot, strictly day VFR, with all my time in the same region. Watching that made me seriously nervous, for entirely different reasons. That shrinking ceiling and visibility spooks me in ways that might not even register for you. Not legal, perhaps, but you have the skills and experience to make an excursion into real soup a non-event. Well done getting her mind off the bumps.

    • @JollyRogerAviation
      @JollyRogerAviation  Рік тому

      Considering I’ve been flying 99% IFR over the last 20 years + , I was honestly surprised how comfortable I was in this scenario. The ceiling came down but the visibility was never less than 5 miles I’d say. I get your point about getting out of a situation. I guess the one thing I have for sure is years of experience that when it comes down to it, I good transition to the gyro/flight director and feel comfortable getting a vector. I honestly hope I never have to do that un-planned but it is always there. Curious, what region do you fly in?

    • @youngskyculler
      @youngskyculler Рік тому

      @@JollyRogerAviation Exactly. Your IFR experience means that the prospect of accidental IMC is not threatening. I've had conditions similar to your video shrink around me. It wasn't fun. I'm based out of KAWO.

    • @JollyRogerAviation
      @JollyRogerAviation  Рік тому

      @@youngskyculler I totally respect your reluctance then for sure. My dad is an 86 year old single engine VFR pilot in Alaska and he’s still alive! If he ever went IMC, he’d be upside down into a mountain for sure lol. That’s just what he’s good at and my flying is completely different.

    Harsh arrival.
    That's what y'all call it, right? Arrival, not landing?
    Still, 100x better than I've ever done in any kind of sim game I've ever played. I can get em off the ground without a problem, but that landing though. I just fly em till I'm bored and try to come up with new fancy ways to crash em. Lol!
    And we're all loving the flying content!!! Good stuff!!

    • @JollyRogerAviation
      @JollyRogerAviation  Рік тому +1

      This was a tough wind today so I was happy with it just getting it on they round safely. Very common misunderstanding that good landings are smooth. Some of my best landings were rough as hell due to weather or a short field in a 737.

    My old man wasn't nervous in a small plane but his inner ear fluid got f_cked up when he crashed at a motorcycle race and after that he'd get sick on a merry go round. If he was distracted and my uncle let him have his hands on the yoke at all times, he was fine. Even with some foolishness Not so fine sitting rear with my uncle Dave or me flying, lol. He filled two barf bags. He stopped coming along to my flying lessons after that one.
