    Henderson....simply the best ever.
Most forget he lead off the ninth inning of the Joe Carter game drawing a walk.
He is a superstar of the highest caliber......THE MAN

Rickey 1st wanted to play in the NFL, his mother pushed him to play baseball, he was a football player 1st though

Without question he would have been a pro bowl running back in the NFL but would not of had as long of a career! Think he made the right choice

While looking at the 2011 World Series, I would think back to the A's of the mid/late-80's. The potential for an exciting moment at the plate for about 75% of the lineup. And once Rickey joined the roster, at the lead-off position?! He really was Mr. Excitement in my book. He might hit a home run. He could get walked, without breaking a sweat. Then he could rattle a pitcher by threatening to steal ANY base. Just give him the sign!!!

My favorite player to watch. What a treat. Always smiling; yet severly misunderstood. Media almost destroyed his reputation.

Please don't blame the media. By the way, they didn't harm his career at all

I remember the "story" about Ricky and Olerud. I used to tell it like it was true and it turns out..it wasn't!!..best part though..it got around to Rickey and he denies it, but he WISHES it was true!!...lol

the greatest baseball player to play you all talk about him as if he was a character some minstrel show figure shame on you all, but you will praise and prop up the others, and hide some of their Disgusting attributes

nice story but doesnt appear it ever happened. A's didnt face Jimmy Key till rickeys 4th game with a's in 1989. He did walk 1st inning but didnt steal a base and didnt score. He only stole one base off Key that game then scored on Dave Henderson single.

According to this game log, the story appears completely valid.

Tony Butcher ..thank u for this....i was feeling deflated thinking this was partially to completely false. He walked twice had 3 stolen bases and three hits...not a bad day at the office.

Actually stole second off Key and scored in the first. It's a bit embellished over time, but does represent Rickey and all the color he brought to the game. One of my favorites of all time. Unquestionably, the best and most dangerous leadoff hitter in MLB history.

Why should I listen to ANYTHING this guy says with all those juiced players?
