Always odd that when someone discover a better, safer, and more efficient way to do something, people in in the industry reject it out of a fear of competition instead of adopting it.
@@Animebryan2it’s one thing to streamline your work cuz it’s something people like seeing based on their tastes in media, but AI art steals from the internet other media and art relating to what you put in it to put together a slightly distorted mess with a style people can’t replicate because idiots go “ooo art so good” and not actually observe one and go “wait, why is there a 3rd leg?” “Why does bro have 6 fingers bruh” like, come on. As an underrated Vtuber artist on twitter, the AI art thing a pain to talk about. Like, if you wanna be called an “artist” by people, maybe stop uploading images to a program on the internet, and instead turn on your drawing pad, pick up your pen, and start making things BY HAND yourself.
@@Animebryan2also, it’s plagiarism. If a game company used AI art for their game even if it’s used for advertising, the company, no matter how big or small they are, is gonna get shit for it. Which is why a lot of artists who do commissions will either not post it anywhere or watermark the work, wherever they post it. It’s so that they can “poison the AI” which I don’t really know how that works but hey I’ll take it.
@@JacksonArtz21 I'm confused...why are you suddenly talking about AI art? I'm pretty sure the comment was about VTubing. Edit: Just realized they were replying to a deleted comment.
I wasn't surprised at the initial backlash after watching her, most models on CB just sit there using a toy and barely interact. None of them really have much of a personality, let alone the charm Melody expressed from day 1. She was dorking around actually talking to people and being engaging ON TOP of also being a lewd goblin. It gave the other models competition where they had learned to settle and do nothing unique. As you know, there's nothing worse for an entitled hack than that. This is still true today btw. In the end she's honestly probably the most wholesome talent in Vshojo outside of Zen when she's being inspirational. She's just a big dork and I'm happy she's thriving.
I believe if it wasn't for VShojo, Melly wouldn't be nearly as popular nor as well known as she is (outside of controversies she was involved in). People even said recently that VShojo was basically Melly's idea, since in the beginning she was the recruitment coordinator for VShojo. She eventually decided to just be a talent instead of doing managerial work (I can't really blame her - management can be a very challenging job).
@@ResidentWeevil2077 Melody is a really charismatic person. You can watch any of her videos and you will never see a moment where she is complaining or having beef with anyone. Even if she didn't create vshojo she would have had a fan-base in the same way. I never watched any of her adult content, but I still watch her videos regularly because she is just a nice person. Imagine the type of friend that simply makes your day brighter and better. She is that type of person. And we must cherish these people.
@@rumplstiltztinkerstein what I said was meant as more like sponsors and such won't touch Melly due to the nature of her "other job", which is unfortunate because she really is a wholesome bean who just happens to be a virtual camgirl. I suppose I should have worded what I said differently.
Gonna be real with you man Melody was my first vtuber (officially) as i hear of her on her launch during a Zone-sama stream. Feom there fall the rabbit hole. And as i evenwatch her CB archive in the hub, but ALWAYS come back to the normal streams, especially when she just sperg out. The portal stream where fun, with the whole science team an all
It's less that she "joined" VShojo, and more that she was the driving force behind it's creation. It's been said that VShojo started as an idea after a conversation she had with Gunrun about the problems she had been having starting out. and all of the initial wave of VShojo have said that it was Melody who approached them to join. To the point that Ironmouse was the first one asked, and the last one to accept.
Here's the thing with DigitrevX: He is on record telling Project Melody on the chat logs that the 3D model he made for her would be *completely* hers, intellectual property and all. If the contract Project Melody ended up signing with him didn't actually cover IP rights then he is guilty of making her sign a *fraudulent* contract, because he made her agree to it under false pretenses. My guess is that he originally never intended to claim IP rights because he thought Melody would be a one-off job, done and forgotten in a few months. But when he saw how big Melody had gotten, he wanted a piece of the pie. It's sort of like the Witcher situation, where the author of the books signed away his rights for cheap thinking the games based on his books would never be as popular as they ended up being. But whereas Andrzej Sapkowski eventually reached out to the game's authors who amended his original agreement in good faith, DigitrevX simply went nuclear and attempted to force Melody to give him the money he believed he was owed when he failed to force Melody into joining his shitty company. In any case, his career as a 3D modeller is now effectively over. Who would want to work with someone who reclaims work that he got paid for?
This reminds me of the Creator of GI JOE, he was given two options either take a $100,000 buyout with no royalties, or a $50,000 with royalties that could potentially be renegotiated, he took option A then when Joe came back in the 80s with the passion he realized he made a bad choice but hey Hindsight is 20/20 in these situations
Digitrevx is some weeb who for the first time met a girl on the internet and she actually talked to him so he made her a model for "free" with intention she would sleep with him in the future and when she didnt (doh) he became spitful little shit and tried to exploit her over such outrageous behavior of hers.
Sapkowski was also paid additional money multiple times, outside of the initial contract, just of the goodwill of CDPR. The initial offer they made him actually included percentage of revenue too, which he didn't accept because "the game won't sell anything".
It's a shame because clearly he's good as a designer and modeller. This short sighted greed stopped him from becoming a well known and respected vtuber rigger on the caliber of twintails and iron vertex.
@@Interrobang212 It shouldn't be surprising that there are people with such ego for money, regardless of talent and not that money powers security and stuff normally.
Mel is a prime example of what happens when you're an innovator in a field 85% filled with dumb people. "She doesn't put herself at risk!" That was a them problem and they were being jealous idiots for not thinking of it first (and regretting their decisions).
It's also an excuse. I saw one video that compared the audio of her and several other cam girls. She was constantly active, making cute noises, and between sexy times she'd interact with people in the chat. Most other cam girls you'd think no audio was recorded if they didn't say every now and then "donate if you want that"
Watching the cam girls seethe after Melody's debut was absolutely hilarious to watch. They thought she was taking money out of their pockets, when in reality she was attracting a completely different audience.
What those people don't understand is that even if a virtual model attracts the eye initially, keeping an audience requires charisma, engagement, an authentic personality and creativity on what do to on stream, something melody has and they don't. Melody is simply that fun to watch and folks have fun interacting with her on stream. e-girls/camgirls who are successful are precisely that because they have some of the same characteristics and can engage with their audience beyond showing themselves on a camera, and when that's not the case, it's because they're exceedingly attractive and are a magnet for simps, but that'd be only a 1% of all of them.
I bet Melody is wiser now, but people SERIOUSLY need to get lawyers involved sooner when TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars are involved. It's so frustrating hearing about bullshit like the modeler guy and other scams like what happened to Bao. So many people don't setup proper contracts, or take the appropriate legal actions when they do. At least ask for a consultation!
Yep, at the boom of vtubers, scams like what Melody got hooked on was huge! A lot of talents from US, Canada and UK to Asia got hooked on those scams unfortunately.
As someone who has handled contracts like that, it's ALWAYS a fucking mess to do so. 'Get legal representation' is easy to say, but it becomes a hell of a lot harder (and more costly) when you start delving into the utter hellscape that is international copyright law. Furthermore, in any contract, no matter how tightly written, there are so many cracks in the system that if the other party wants to fuck you over, they can and will. The only way to really protect yourself is not signing a contract with scumbags to begin with.
Her modeler sounds really greedy. He really tried to exploit her Grey area contract with him. A normal person, who wasn't greedy, would've realized that hey we never really decided the copyright issue. But she paid the correct fee at the time. So I'll give it to her. He instead said, huh I can get way more money out of this. Also that music deal is very shady. He probably was set to have a huge payout when she signed. That's the only reason he would push for it so hard. Seeing how music isn't really her goal in content creation. Overall, objectively, this guy got greedy and got caught.
Well, you know, it's easy to say how bad this guy is. But many, if they were in his place, would not be able to resist seeing the amount of money this model earns...
@@kpzz1545right. Could have gone the route of getting shouted out and picking up a lot more work. Instead wanted to exploit a single cash cow. You are right people would be greedy but there's different ways of going about it
What do you mean "started off"? She still does hentai streams to this day. The Vshojo girls even mention it a few times when she is running late for collabs because of her other streams.
No matter how much distance you put between you & your past.... Your past follows you. There's a reason more people don't get into h-type streaming. IT'S HARD TO RESPECT THOSE STREAMERS lol simps make all kinds of excuses to justify that "work" but at least real prostitutes do real work for real people. H-type streamers just simulate it online for people too lonely & lazy to seek real connections IRL 😂
@vash_the_stampede6570 she doesn't do as many because she's obviously a lot more busy than she used to be, but its still a pretty regular occurrence. There is a really funny clip of ironmouse trying to explain Mel's "other job" to I think Geega...but without actually saying what it is.
"you should partner with my company" "oh, what does the partnership entail?" "you pay me $45,000 a month, and i get 25% of your merch sales" "and what do you offer?" "what?" bruh really thought he was slick trying to get her to sign a contract for a monthly fee thats more than some people make in a year.
I’ve watched Mel since the beginning. Watching her overcome the massive backlash she first received to where she is now is really somthing. She’ll always be one of my favorites if not my favorite.
wait so Melody kept offering this Digitrev guy to pay him which he REFUSED everytime saying "it's no big deal" but he was actually thinking he'd be compensated "eventually"??? bruh what is this guy's damage??? SHE WANTS TO PAY YOU!!! WHY ARE YOU REFUSING??? AND WHEN DO YOU EXPECT TO BE COMPENSATED THAT'S NOT ALL THOSE TIMES SHE WANTS TO COMPENSATE YOU????
Dude displayed serious "Nice Guy" syndrome, thinking "Ah, I'm doing all this work for her for free, she will like me, and I will have favor with her, maybe I can get her to *like* me" guy lost the plot cause Mel is a naturally charismatic and engaging person, and got ideas in his head when it was only ever a business relationship. Dumbass thinking with his little brain instead of his brain.
She wanted to pay far less then what she owed while also walking away from a mutual business deal she was interested in for a major portion of the relationship. Her decision to walk away was pretty messed up. It was not initiated by anything or anyone. We assume it's her lack of understanding of costs of operations. Like imagine running a studio, paying for rent, programmers, artist, licenses, machines, taxes ex. Showing that to her and saying we can't get it down anything less then 35k a month and then being told by the cam girl "Naaa I'll find someone to do it cheaper". Thanks for the months of support bye. Then trying to reach some kinda fair terms to walk away when she's making north of 100k a month and end up being ghosted and ignored. She still hasn't paid for the assets other then her character model. Which this was never about.
Over the past year or two I've heard of sooo many instances where the artists or asset makers attempt to tack on additional fees in the hundreds or thousands of dollars, all depending on how well the Vtuber performs even months afterwards. Rima is right. Get an itemized list of rock-solid prices, and have a simple contract stating that YOU will own every single asset after the agreed-upon price of $XXX is paid. If you don't, then you may be setting yourself up for multiple nervous breakdowns months later. Thanks for the great video~! Hope this next year treats you well~!
I think that DigitrevX was being very short sighted by not realizing that maintaining a positive relationship with Melody as one of her original creators would do more for his career in the long term than getting greedy and shaking her down would even if he'd gotten her to pay him off. He ended up alienating himself from a community that otherwise would have been very interested in his future work.
Imma be honest, even before watching this video, I still think her newer models look better than the OG one - They do lack the mobility of the original, as each are ad-hoc, but the og model is kinda rough and coarse in some aspects, like how the hair, lingerie and hands phase through her torso, all that after "working so hard for so long". Idk, maybe he did, but he's definitely NOT the last coke in the desert in his field, he never was. A little above average if you will, but, to quote James Vowles, "good, but not special".
@@MindlessMegaLawl I don't think you understand. After the fall out her stuff got worse. Clipping, bad edits by other people, bad design, glowing eye whites, bad hair edits. All stuff the original author wasn't part of. It's as if she edited the work after the fall out to make it more shit on purpose. Also at the time of melody nobody was doing good anime art in the west. All the good modelers were focusing on other things because there was next to zero vtuber presence in the west. Live 2d wasn't even popular in the west and hololive didn't even have a EN gen yet. So it's a odd thing to say if you know history or how things unfolded. But for sure her stuff went down hill after she stopped getting support from the original creator. All while saying she knew of "well known companies" that could do the same but for less. It was a lie she bluffed and lost because it took her a long time to ever get support again. Also a original creator making her entire image and theme while creating a model that technically works vs someone coming in later to work on things after she has millions to compensate is a major factor. Pretty sure her stuff would have been top notch the entire time if she just paid the creator instead of scamming.
Melody was one of VTubers who gotten me into this rabbit hole back in 2020. Her rapid popularity had gotten me curious enough to venture onto the camsite and I was hooked with her adorkable personality. So the hate she got from the other models never felt justified to me. I decided to be fair and see what these models were producing. And so many of these streams were just lifeless. Melody is a true performer and genuinely loves engaging with her audience. She's an actually entertaining adult streamer which is why people stuck around. Really the whole fuel behind the hate was jealously. Anyway, nice video on Melody Rima! Looking forward what you produce in 2024.
Dang we entered the rabbit hole the exact same way, when she had the interview with #LostPause who I was subscribed to at the time I was surprised to see her there.
For real! The same cam girls that were jealous of Melody couldn’t wrap their heads around the fact that her streams were engaging, fun, lively, AND lewd! Meanwhile those same cam girls’ streams are usually just them… sitting there. Maybe a little movement/audio stimuli, but honestly that’s it. They were just upset that they couldn’t get Melody’s kind of growth and popularity by sitting there and being boring.
I can't wait for this video. As someone who's been following Projekt Melody's career since her initial debut, learning about all the drama about her initial model was so fascinating to me. I always felt weird about *the other VTuber* who still uses a model that was made by that same artist as Mel. I don't know if I should be upset at that Vtuber for commissioning the guy despite everything that happened or if I should be upset at the artist for being a "same face illustrating" hack.
I assume the people with his expertise and that have proven themselves is very rare in the industry as it was super new. Plus i *think* it was before all the allegations came out but i could be wrong
@@CroakingBroking it was a Yfu baby but she graduated from that life and last I knew she had also quit the next life LolaLoading so she's no longer affiliated with Digi
Tbf to YFU/lola, she was trying to escape him and separate from him since Debut since he damaged her pretty directly by trying to force mel to collab or give exposure to his “new project” which did have negative effects , but unfortunately ran into another snag with other scumbags. Hope to see her return in 2024 with trustworthy people behind her.
it's really ironic that camgirls are claiming that mel was taking viewers away from them when mel's target audience usually doesn't even want to interact with real life camgirls in the first place lmao
Mel was definitely my gateway vtuber. Her interview with Noble started her clips and vods showing up in my recommendeds, and it wasn't long until the rabbit hole loomed before me and took the plunge.
no joke, the very first time i randomly landed on CB was the exact time Melody had one of her first streams there. i clicked on it, intrigued at first because i havent heard of the concept of vtubers yet. i was fascinated by her tech, but also her dorky personality. been following her ever since, and its quite funny when you compare her to other current "always down bad" acting vtubers. she seems so tame in comparison lol
...I'll never understand the point of all those critisizing Mel for ''Having it easy'' or ''Not following the same rules as them'' or ''Not putting herself at risk'' or ''Breaking the system'' or whatever...what's holding them from just doing the same? Its not like Mel put a trademark on lewdy V-tubing! She innovated and was rewarded for it, there's nothing wrong with this.
The actual problem is that those women are trying to monetize their looks, and only competing with looks. Melody introduced the idea than anyone can fake looks, and now they had to compete with anyone who had a rig. Lacking any other appeal, they can't compete, so they just blindly attacked using any stupid desperate shit they could think of. The irony is they probably have completely different userbases anyway.
TBF Melodies personality is something that puts her above most camgirls, most of them just are like "Oh look at my body lol" where she's actually funny enough that if you cut out the lewd parts it's still be a decent stream, do that for other camgirls and and you maybe just have some girl answer questions and sitting there.
I'm so glad that the copyright saga is now a footnote on Mel's career and not an ongoing controversy. I just got into Vtubers this year, and Mel quickly became my Oshi. I watch both the spicy streams and the seiso ones. It's interesting to see just a few years back how new and uncharted everything was. So proud of my favorite lewdtuber for trailblazing a new landscape.
If anything it kinda made her more relatable but also the discussion around not owning ur own body/IP was interesting imo..until all the graduations drama that happened after no one knew this could be a thing! She’s done so many extraordinary things I really think she is a pioneer of vtubing and a really wholesome person as well
@@sonicthehedgehog1606 Off the top of my head, here are a few things Melody has done: Became the first Lewdtuber, broke and still holds several records on the CB platform like most concurrent viewers, won a CB award for most innovative streamer, won the award for best lewdtuber at the Vtuber Awards recently, and with the other VShojos raised a ton of money in charity streams for Toys 4 Tots.
The Mel/Digi mess was just awful all around. Should Mel have gotten a contract written up? Yeah, but with the texts between her and Digi he really didn't have any legal ground to stand on. Most courts will accept documented, written agreements like that in lieu of actual contracts and draw one up post hoc, sometimes adjusting compensation but usually keeping it mostly the same. On the other hand, I get it if Digi felt he didn't get payed enough, it happens to everybody that does freelance work. Seeing all of both of their sides that they shared publicly though, it definitely seems like once Mel got really popular, Digi just opportunistically wanted more money. In the end, Mel got a new set of models made and just completely moved on from all of his work that he ever made for her, full commission or him contributing free of charge. Great work again Rima! The deep doves into the real life controversies and history behind popular Vtubers are so we'll researched and extremely well put together. Happy Holidays and New Year!
Honestly he screwed himself out of future work by doing that. In addition if you work freelance you're setting your price. No reason to get upset over the price you set just cause someone did well with what they bought
she offered to pay him tho... and he said every time that is was "no big deal" and then he decided he WASN'T compensated??? what kind of logic is that??
@@AJLaz000 You'll hear no disagreement from me on that front. More than likely he wanted to pull her into future projects he was working on so he wanted to use a quid pro quo system, or he genuinely wanted to help her then got vindictive when he got angry about everything. At worst most of Mel's transgressions are being inexperienced and naive, Digi's are much more vindictive and scummy.
@@rimaevenstar Where's the boundary between "verbal" and "written" agreement in dms? I believe it's as legally binding as e-mail conversations back in the day.
I first heard of her from cout dankula of all channels when he defended her against all the butt hurt thots that were harassing her when she first started streaming on only fans. its honestly surprising how much she's grown.
Same. Kinda surprised that Dankula would have covered THAT of all topics, but it was still entertaining, especially the Aliens bit. High levels of sodium chloride have been detected emanating from the thot community. I repeat, this is not a drill."
The thing about Melody is her personality and how she interacts with people. Just speaking of her adult content... majority of camgirls just sit there and don't interact with anyone. Even if you do chat or talk with them, they constantly ask for money and only have a conversation or interaction with limited responses. It's extremely rare if ever that Mel says anything about getting paid for what she is doing. I am NOT saying adult performers shouldn't get paid, or that any interaction is required. I am saying that's why Melody has been so successful and become so popular, her personality and they way she interacts with people. When there where technical difficulties with her tracking and or model, Melody would get upset with herself and or the situation and apologise profusely. The interesting part is that majority of the people chatting with her say they wouldn't care if she was a PNG (still image), as long as she could chat, and verbally interact, that her personality was why people were there, not the model/avatar.
I started watching Vtubers this year, mostly Vshojo actually, so these deep dives are always a good watch. Been great seeing you grow and your improvement with each video, looking forward to what you do in 2024!
It’s so weird that Mel started off as a p*rn content creator and is still doing stuff like that today, even when she’s in a company. Vshojo is an entirely different place for Vtubers. I’m still waiting on her and Hime’s original song “Q-Pid”. I’ve heard some previews of it and I’m already looking forward to the full MV on UA-cam.
Thats why vshojo is frowned upon while still being based. I think some ppl might never like their model but i personally think it’s a great way to proceed forward in the Vtubing industry. When melody joined there wasnt any “expectations” of what a vtuber should or should not be which made everything alot more “open minded” in a way
@@rimaevenstar True. Melody has evolved so much in the past 3 years that almost every single hater she had is now completely irrelevant. That's the power of Projekt Melody.
I've never watched much Melody content because her style just isn't for me, but I've always respected her! To hear that this dude REPEATEDLY DECLINED PAYMENT and then tried to be like "actually I'm really pissed that you never paid me for all this work and also I'm going to blackmail you into supporting this other project because it's crashing due to bad public reception" is... insane. I'm glad she's got a good support system at VShojo now so she can live her life and make her content in peace!
the mental gymnastics her modeler was doing to somehow portray melody wanting a contract as a *bad thing* ??? im flabbergasted. a contract would have protected them *both*
Documents became a topic only when she would "appear to be on good terms with YFU". Kinda messed up. Also there is zero way to police appearing to be on good terms with someone. What even is that? Just believe you aren't saying messed up stuff behind the scenes. Obviously common sense would lead a normal person to be like ok this is a bad deal. Sign over rights for someone's word..
I think what also helped with Mel's success is that she puts on a show rather than *wait* for tokens to come *before* putting on said show. It definitely broke the camgirl norm of the former.
I don't think it's a coincidence that Melody speaking out on the DigitrevX situation and the founding of VShojo took place within the same month. While no one has ever said they are connected, I assume that no one ever would.
It didn't take place the same month. In fact she struggled with tech and assets for a long time after the split up and took quite a while to get everyone together to do Vshojo because gunrun was key in that.
AMAZING video essay and a great analysis on Melody and the journey she's been through on her platforms. Loving these commentary videos, keep it up Rima!!!!
I love Mel's personality and I went to other stuff later. I think she is as popular as she is because she is a good performer. I'm not even gay and when I checked out her I found myself liking it. Her content is very welcoming and just easy to watch no matter what it is you like.
Instead of seeing her as a solution, they saw her as a threat lol. Also, yeah, the artist had plenty of opportunities to be monetarily compensated and took none of them. I can imagine a lawyer arguing that these messages prove enough verbal agreement to be honored, although not necessarily legally binding.
This is a well-made video, and I can tell you are an actual journalist. As for the topic itself, you're right on the money with how to take commissions. Sure, his model and rigging played a big factor in Project Melody's success, but it was her own entertainment that really became a game changer. He got caught up in the project and let it become a passion project without seeing clear terms. His coping led to irrational decisions, wanting to take a big cut of her profits rather than invoice her fairly. Don't burn bridges with your clients. If he had worked with her more, she might have given him a big boost in reputation. Being the designer of a pioneer in the field comes with the ability to increase your rates with the prestige it grants. Instead, he must likely lost any chance in the 3D modeling space.
Yeah, a lota people don't realize but she originally had a broken TDA edit and no idea how to make her vision possible. So the reality is without help she likely wouldn't have started. Nobody at that time was willing to work on r18 content for her either.
What’s not stated in the video: Mel has no animosity towards YFU and she even mentioned in her discord they’re cool with each other. YFU is just as much of a victim of DigitrevX than Mel was (probably even more emotional/physical abuse) and has now broken ties with him and that company completely.
To be honest, it took me like 3 months that Vshojo wasn't created mostly to help Melody with the whole blackmail thing. Took me too long to realize it was more than just creating a workers-union. xD
13:21 Oof. Using _PayPal_ and processing the payment as _"Friends and Family"._ Been scammed too many times by individuals who insist on the person giving the money to use the PayPal method which offers zero Buyer Protection.
You know, this whole series of videos has been very insightful and you cant help but feel happy and sorry for some of these talents. Reading this title made me feel extra concerned.... Despite what melody does and did, its amazing how she... kinda feels one of th most wholesome vtubers out there, which is kinda funny but also commendable 😊
Thats because she is very wholesome! She’s very kind. I think there’s alot of stigma associated with s*x work but in the end i kinda just judge people on their hearts and not what they do for work. And i wish ppl did the same
God, how I love stories like this. Stories about human greed, intelligence, lust, and other interesting things, especially related to VTubers. It’s a pity that they are more secretive than politicians, and it’s not a fact that we will ever know at least half of all those secrets hidden behind the scenes.
Great video 👀 A lot of it was nostalgia trip for me, I remember Mel was technically one of the first vtubers I ever heard of. One thing that's kind of surprising tho is how many of her detractors seem to be talking about her like she's actually an immortal computer creature..?? Now that I think of it I think I recall an article talking about ironmouse like that too
I stumbled across this and caught a little bit. Some stuff is confused. There was a mutual goal of building a talent agency with Melody funding it because she was making over 100k a month. She backed out after getting months of support that helped her achieve those financial goals. She said she did her home work and found "people that could do the same for cheaper" then Giga quoted her which was no less then 35k a month. Everyone in business knows there is no way to run a studio with working people for that cheap unless it's ultra budget. We all had a pretty clear idea her claim about getting support for cheaper wasn't actually true. We also know since it's history at this point she had almost no support based on the declining quality of her assets and constant technical problems. So she took the support given by Giga for months and screwed everyone building to make that agency possible. That is why she got hit with the large bill. Which she agree'ed she needed to pay something in those twitter receipts. She never did pay anything. So she is considered still on the hook for those assets.
as someone Whos met Melody during multiple Meetups she is a Legit Nice Person. I personally Prefer her twitch content but fully support her for her doing her thing on CB even tho i dont watch it. Shes very down to earth and a fun person to just talk to. I had no Idea this happened and it Absolutely sucks that it did. Im at least Happy shes Slowly Fading away from Digiex and is now using Different Modules from more sane creators
i remember watching Mel when she debuted in Vshojo, and thinking she was a chill, laid back and wholesome vtuber and it was a couple months later i discovered her CB job. i then learned she was actually a chill, laid back, wholesome and lewd vtuber. which did not change my perspective of her, just thought more power to her. I have a live and let live attitude on life. if you're not harming anyone and im not harming anyone, life is good. it never ceases to amaze me the lengths some will go through just to get a crack at someone, vtuber or real cam, they are there to entertain so let them.
I thought word around the net was that Mel had previously made spicy content before becoming an anime girl. Which would mean she’s already familiar with the life struggles.
Possible -- but not by much. We know when Melody turned 21 in 2022. She premiered on CB in very early 2020. I looked into one of the names that 4Chan attributes to as Melody's former identity. That woman had been on PH since like 2015, sounded very little like Melody, and looked to be in her thirties. I don't still remember that lady's stage name, but I don't believe this idea that Melody's original PH identity exists and is a known thing.
@@lordzaboem some people keep saying "Melody is Mars Mayhem", and those are baseless claims that insane 4channers perpetuated as a major cope. There's no evidence to support those claims - I even looked up Mars Mayhem and can see absolutely no similarities between Mel and her whatsoever.
We don't know the actual business structure of VShojo. We don't know if a founder role is a thing outside of the two owners of the company, the Gunrun and Mewtendo. I did hear Zentreya address Gunrun as "Boss" once. Melody definitely played an early talent recruiter role in approaching other talents and offering them a place in VShojo. Several have directly said this in their own streams. We know that each of the talents has her (or his) own manager now and has for a year or more. If Melody played any administrative role, she seems to have stepped back from that.
@@lordzaboem she was in a management role in the beginning but chose to step back since it's simply too much work. I don't blame her for doing so; she's much more successful being a talent focused on content creation rather than doing the whole bit.
@@lordzaboem I've been trying to find the video where the Vshojo girls were talking about Mel and her influence in the group and one of them mentioned Mel and Froot as a co-founder... And her not wanting to be known like that because of the image that her other job would give the company. But I can't find that video anymore, bad memory my apologies. "Melody definitely played an early talent recruiter role in approaching other talents and offering them a place in VShojo." Maybe they were referring to that, I honestly can't remember.
I was always curious about this. Lots of commentators covered this drama as it was happening. I didn't know what a VTuber was back then, but the situation was wild enough to get people outside the scene talking. If it wasn't for all that heat, Melody likely wouldn't have taken off the way she did. I wouldn't wish that kind of stress on anyone, but I'm glad she pulled through and hope it's all behind her for good. I guess you can consider Vshojo a rescuing party in her case, huh?
Good video, I'd just like to offer a few corrections: Mel didn't popularize vtubers just on adult sites, she popularized them on twitch period. Ironmouse credits Mel's raids as the reason she started blowing up since she had only 50 regular viewers at the time and Mel was the first breakout success of a VTuber on the site. Melody didn't join VShojo, she is the one that came up with the idea. The CEO approached with the intention to support just her and she was the one that decided to turn it into a group and personally recruited the others from her friend group. The company had also been supporting them before launch since around march of 2020. Out of the examples shown of "lewdtubers" only El could be considered as such. Shylily, Numi and Yuzu do not make lewd content themselves. The video is great though. Keep up the good work.
She got hated from other Camgirls because she was different. "Im so much better than a cartoon", but you're just like every other cam girl. Besides bodily features, you just every other cam girl, you fadoodle yourself on camera for tips. At least for Mel, she approached that line of work at a different angle. Changed the game up.
I subscribed because i thought this was a really well made informative video, i think it's very impressive that you managed to get all those conversations between Melody and digitrevx up on display in this video, i only vaguely heard about the rumors but never had any actual insight on what really happened. I can really sorta imagine what happened as to where a creator is first like 'oh, well this girl doesn't have much money, so i'm not gonna ask much', and then melody gettings simps who donate 10k and her getting tons of patreons and followers would be like 'oh, she's earning so much, now i want to ask more money from her'. Can make me understand why she blocked Digitrevx, but still i feel sad that things ended like this, i feel if he would just keep making assets for melody and just asked decent amounts of money for it, he could've earned much more from melody's success, but i'm afraid he might have become too greedy and wanted too much money from her. If he just stayed reasonale, then i think it would've been better for melody's and digitrevx's career, then he would be able to continue to make assets, make money, and melody's model would've kept improving as a result of it. I mean let's be honest digitrevx's art is absolutely superb. But even i would've been too afraid to hire him in the sense of , oh you don't have to pay now kind of excuses only to be faced of getting charged into the many thousands of dollars afterwards. I'm not gonna lie, that's like the nightmare of any vtuber who wants a model, and i've heard of more vtubers getting scammed after ordering a new model. I think you did a video on that, i think i watched that one as well ua-cam.com/video/lJuT0EaZ37E/v-deo.html&ab_channel=RimaEvenstar Yeah, vtuber life comes with many ups and downs, it's not a glorious road at all.
7:25 I've told my parents multiple times: "Just because you had it worse doesn't mean it invalidates my problem." Just because suffering builds character, doesn't mean everyone is mandated to suffer. We should strive for evolution and innovation, not harmful traditions.
Nice video Rima! The bloopers are a must now at the end of every video! Can I ask if you're gonna make a video on the Vshojo vs Nux vs Doxxer case? I was just getting into Vtubing at that time but I was discovering Hololive mostly! Now Vshojo is in my heart and Nux but I don't know any details on that incident. I'd love to see your analysis on the matter.
Ya know.. the funny thing is I was a fan of hers back then. Then the Diji thing happened and she had so much support. Then.. the vshojo thing happened, and when nux tried to protect people, she felt it better to treat him like crap to protect herself. I can't be a fan of an influencer that uses their friends and community as a shield.. but tell me, to this day.. has she EVER apologized to nux? In short.. she is no better than Digi
Did in the video they mentioned what they did to Nux specifically does she acknowledge what she did to Nux since she didn't give a proper apology it seems. Considering what he did to help her.
Informative as always. TY. I think the bitterness stemming from Melody's cam-girl peers is simple jealousy. They didn't come up with the idea and they don't like that fact. Melody successfully found a way to earn money without putting herself or anyone else at risk of harm. I say, "bravo." But on a related point, everyone needs to earn a living and there aren't enough jobs paying a living wage these days. Until that changes, I think work in adult entertainment should become normalized, and its workers accepted rather than ostracized - because what else are they going to do? Starve? The drama between Melody and DigitrevX seems very complicated, but boils down to DigitrevX rejected compensation for his work multiple times, and he agreed to give the avatar to Melody. At that point, any sense of entitlement boils down to "nice guy" syndrome. Just as there isn't a binding written contract making Melody the owner of the avatar, there isn't a contract binding the avatar to DigitrevX either. That means the evidence of the gentleman's agreement, provided by Melody, is the closest thing to being a contract, and thus, the avatar is Melody's.
Really well said. I also think we should normalize sex work and make it easier on everybody involved, especially in this economy. As for the digitevX thing that’s funny, I also got huge “nice guy” syndrome from him too!!
The disrespect for sex workers, I think stems from a broader disrespect for work. It's common for people -- even respected authority figures -- to say "That's what you get for not going to college" or "You should of get a better skill" to workers who perform vital functions. If we simply respect workers as people, the lack of respect for sex workers evaporates.
@@lordzaboem Ironic because el_XoX was a college art student, but had to drop out because of carpal tunnel syndrome triggered by an inherited genetic issue. (I think she also said that she is very sensitive and has a high sex drive, and if she hadn't become a cb streamer, she would be at home masturbating 8 hours every day. So I hope she's content with this line of work. Too bad she's under so much stress due to reoccurring twitch bans.)
I definitely side with Melody on this, but I'm not as dismissive as many in this comment section about the other camgirls. Part of the context here is that they've seen catfishers dishonestly stealing their business (and their identities often enough) for years. Although Melody doesn't catfish, she might have been initially perceived as such in a knee jerk reaction sort of way.
Rima talked about that during the premiere watchalong. She says that the Nux thing is her most requested topic, like it's scary how much people want that. She doesn't want to talk about it until she has the time to fully and fairly research those very complicated issues.
@@lordzaboemthen why the fuck is she using it as a thumbnail click bait? And why she didn't say that in the video herself and only said it in the premiere? Its too big of a situation to not be mentioned This doesn't show one's good practices in being objective archivist
@@TiredDoktor6391 i can understand the click bait and i can understand her not wanting to mention it yet as long as she has something more in depth later on but a mention of something like that in the video would be nice. Ill check the info of the video in case it's mentioned there.

@@Animebryan2also, it’s plagiarism. If a game company used AI art for their game even if it’s used for advertising, the company, no matter how big or small they are, is gonna get shit for it.
Yess 100%!!
Gonna be real with you man
Melody was my first vtuber (officially) as i hear of her on her launch during a Zone-sama stream.
Indeed I also heard that from multiple sources. One more reason why melody is an innovator
It's nice to have a consolidated legal and representative body.
Vshojo was built outside of her work
But it was made successful by people who knew her
Here's the thing with DigitrevX: He is on record telling Project Melody on the chat logs that the 3D model he made for her would be *completely* hers, intellectual property and all.
Every industry is filled with at least 85% dumb people.
It's also an excuse. I saw one video that compared the audio of her and several other cam girls. She was constantly active, making cute noises, and between sexy times she'd interact with people in the chat. Most other cam girls you'd think no audio was recorded if they didn't say every now and then "donate if you want that"
@@tomraineofmagigor3499 in other words- you can tell Mel has a strong passion for her work even without the money
What has she innovated?
@@BaddyZ Did you not watch the video?
Watching the cam girls seethe after Melody's debut was absolutely hilarious to watch. They thought she was taking money out of their pockets, when in reality she was attracting a completely different audience.
@rwdplz1
How do I find her cam videos?? What's her username?
Yeah, screw that guy
Well, you know, it's easy to say how bad this guy is. But many, if they were in his place, would not be able to resist seeing the amount of money this model earns...

He thought he could drag her into his business. That was his goal.
Perhaps but when you feel you are being scammed by someone and you know they owe you and are ghosting you. How much relationship is there to maintain?
DigitrevX really shot himself in the foot. Bro could've made bank working alongside Melody instead of trying to extort her.
Only the foot for now (reference to oversimplified ww2 pt1)
Melody was one of VTubers who gotten me into this rabbit hole back in 2020. Her rapid popularity had gotten me curious enough to venture onto the camsite and I was hooked with her adorkable personality. So the hate she got from the other models never felt justified to me.
She’s done so many extraordinary things I really think she is a pioneer of vtubing and a really wholesome person as well
@@rimaevenstar what extraordinary things?
Ig she has the ground that they had a verbal arguments but yeah messy story! And tysm ^^ ❤️ happy holidays
Same here! I was laughing my arse off at how upsetti spaghetti the IRL streamer girls were at her!
Same. Kinda surprised that Dankula would have covered THAT of all topics, but it was still entertaining, especially the Aliens bit.
"Attention ladies and gentleman, we have a Category 3: Hoes Mad alarm. I repeat, Category 3: Hoes Mad alarm, this is not a drill. High levels of sodium chloride have been detected emanating from the thot community. I repeat, this is not a drill."
The best result from this saga is that VSJ got formed.
Great last vid of the year! Can't wait to see what next year holds.
Me too!! Ty for supporting me all this time
This video is a good archive to preserve the history of this event. Keep up with the good work 👍
Thank you! i will keep on trying my best!
When melody joined there wasnt any “expectations” of what a vtuber should or should not be which made everything alot more “open minded” in a way
She's also featured in adult video games. Her merchandise is really good quality as well.
@@rimaevenstar True. Vshojo got so much flak for being what it was, and I feel it wasn’t until Silvervale, Nyanners, and Veibei left and some Ex-Niji members (alongside Pikamee) joined that people started to give the company a chance. It’s still not liked that much, but most hate that was directed at it started to gear towards Nijisanji and it’s crap management for being why the members left.
@@ps4pro668 the ones that attack VShojo now are mostly antis who hate vtubers anyway, Nijibros because of certain talents leaving Nijisanji and joining VShojo, or Holostans who are devoted to toxic idol culture and see VSJ as an affront to their so-called idols and the "seiso" side of vtubing.
@@ps4pro668VShojo got flak for doing shitty things and being caught lying, the girls for continuing the lies, saying dumb stuff that aggro'd people and for some for being shitty people.
Mouse being the largest Vtuber on twitch + Zen ALOT of the communities good will unil Kson, Mata and Henya joined an flushed the bad apples.
Hmm, now that you mention it, you're right. No knowledgeable source has said that directly.
One of the advantages of a corporation is that you can enter legal action without revealing your identity.
Learned many new things about Melody. Thanks for the amazing video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The way shondo showed up like a supercar in commuting traffic
LOL I didn’t expect a Shondo clip to pop up xD
shondo is hilarious
that line almost got her an oscar
This was a good independent exposé on projekt melody. You gave unjudgmental insight while Addressing the controversy. I hope melody sees this.
Im glad i saw El in this video! I bet shes gonna be excited to be in this since Mel is her inspiration!

Nobody at that time was willing to work on r18 content for her either.
crazy how underrated of acontent creator you are 💜
What’s not stated in the video: Mel has no animosity towards YFU and she even mentioned in her discord they’re cool with each other. YFU is just as much of a victim of DigitrevX than Mel was (probably even more emotional/physical abuse) and has now broken ties with him and that company completely.
To be honest, it took me like 3 months that Vshojo wasn't created mostly to help Melody with the whole blackmail thing. Took me too long to realize it was more than just creating a workers-union. xD
13:21 Oof. Using _PayPal_ and processing the payment as _"Friends and Family"._
Been scammed too many times by individuals who insist on the person giving the money to use the PayPal method which offers zero Buyer Protection.
And i wish ppl did the same
A person can be nice, but that doesn't mean we can't criticize the work.
But you cannot separate them like that. The work they choose to do reflects certain conditions they hold@@rimaevenstar
God, how I love stories like this. Stories about human greed, intelligence, lust, and other interesting things, especially related to VTubers. It’s a pity that they are more secretive than politicians, and it’s not a fact that we will ever know at least half of all those secrets hidden behind the scenes.
RIMAAA you gotta stop dropping these banger videos back to back
Thank to you to bring us this information. Keep the good working.
She's just simply fun to watch.
You're not wrong.
Right...."fun"
Eh
My first Official Vtuber I watched just bcs Nux Taku talked about the controversy earlier in 2020.
It was a great video, I missed out on all that drama that surrounded Melody at the time.
Thanks for the video and Merry Christmas
i remember watching Mel when she debuted in Vshojo, and thinking she was a chill, laid back and wholesome vtuber and it was a couple months later i discovered her CB job. i then learned she was actually a chill, laid back, wholesome and lewd vtuber. which did not change my perspective of her, just thought more power to her.
I have a live and let live attitude on life. if you're not harming anyone and im not harming anyone, life is good. it never ceases to amaze me the lengths some will go through just to get a crack at someone, vtuber or real cam, they are there to entertain so let them.
everyone's reactions to her simply existing in a way she felt comfortable is just far beyond pitiful. god forbid someone not be stalked
3:16
Alright, ok, aiight, now I’m subbing
Keep up the good stuff
Moral Lesson is always make a contract and billing invoice to document all the projects that you do .
I remember that Lost Pause interview. It’s where I first learned of her.
Banger video after banger video and now a projekt melody deep dive 🤯

Yaaaay another awsome video from rima 👍. Merry christmas to You rima. 😊
Damn did not expect a Shondo clip, sure it is unexpected but a welcome one.
I want to thank the malding camgirls for inadvertently promoting mel which led to me discovering her in the first place lmao
7:39 according to my understanding Melody is a co-founder of VShojo, not a future recruit. Did I understood it incorrectly?
Yeah she’s a founder
"Melody definitely played an early talent recruiter role in approaching other talents and offering them a place in VShojo."
Maybe they were referring to that, I honestly can't remember.
honestly melody's CB streams were closer to just an unrestricted twitch stream.
Good video, I'd just like to offer a few corrections:
Mel didn't popularize vtubers just on adult sites, she popularized them on twitch period.
Yeah I was one of those who found Ironmouse through Mel
well, el and cotton now
She got hated from other Camgirls because she was different. "Im so much better than a cartoon", but you're just like every other cam girl. Besides bodily features, you just every other cam girl, you fadoodle yourself on camera for tips. At least for Mel, she approached that line of work at a different angle. Changed the game up.
Good lord that whole situation with the guy is terrifying. I"m glad Melody was able to get free from it.
I think you did a video on that, i think i watched that one as well

Nice video Rima! The bloopers are a must now at the end of every video! Can I ask if you're gonna make a video on the Vshojo vs Nux vs Doxxer case? I was just getting into Vtubing at that time but I was discovering Hololive mostly! Now Vshojo is in my heart and Nux but I don't know any details on that incident. I'd love to see your analysis on the matter.
Its in the planning for 2024 and ty!
That situation sucked I used to watch them all alot more in the past but now I only really check out Nux every once in awhile depending on the video

One of the Pioneers. Now I see why she is controversial still see an argument on her being tame.
not sure of your original language but its fun hearing you switch between using plurals and non plurals. she earned many dollar
Ya know.. the funny thing is I was a fan of hers back then.
@@lordzaboem There's not a lot of respect for the consumer either, which adds to the stigma.
No way you say this should be normalized. We as society should nkt degrade out standards low to normalize sexual degenerates
Man i'd never thought i'd see the day YokaiRiderVT being mentions and the person behind it, the cycle continues
What I never understood was if the other cam girls thought she had an unfair advantage... why didn't they do the same thing she did?
I definitely side with Melody on this, but I'm not as dismissive as many in this comment section about the other camgirls. Part of the context here is that they've seen catfishers dishonestly stealing their business (and their identities often enough) for years. Although Melody doesn't catfish, she might have been initially perceived as such in a knee jerk reaction sort of way.
"lets be clear hear" vanishes ... nice took me by surprise for shure
Doesn't work if there is no one in the person being blackmailed's life and doesn't care and is proud of what they do
These are truly odd times back then, thx for this. ;-;
A little weird that the thumbnail mentions nux, but he isn't mentioned in the video. Good vid tho
Its too big of a situation to not be mentioned
This doesn't show one's good practices in being objective archivist
@@TiredDoktor6391 i can understand the click bait and i can understand her not wanting to mention it yet as long as she has something more in depth later on but a mention of something like that in the video would be nice. Ill check the info of the video in case it's mentioned there.
