  • In this adventure I head to St. Louis, Missouri in the United States Of America to visit the Gateway Arch. During vlog I check out this magnificent structure along with heading to the top for a fantastic view across the city.
    The Gateway Arch was completed in 1965 and stands at 630ft (192m) above St Louis. Along with heading to the top of this impressive structure, I also check out the museum that's located directly underneath. Along with that I share various pieces of information throughout the video including a look at the unique tramway system that takes you to the top!

    Looks like you came through St Louis at one of the best times in our history: After we won our first NHL (ice hockey) Stanley Cup Championship in our team's 52 year history. Those entire Arch grounds were packed with people wearing Blues team gear. Quite a site to see.

    I'm from Orlando, but I lived in STL for two years 2016-2018. It's a very under-rated city. My only complaint is it lacks international influence. There aren't many people visiting or moving there to add energy to the city. STL should market itself to people from more expensive cities, because it truly has some of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the country.

    • @daver7178
      @daver7178 5 років тому +1

      Increased international influence would be an excellent shot in the arm for StL. However, StL needs to get some of it's affairs in order (city/county issues) before it will ever go beyond just another Midwestern city.

    • @queenneptune2456
      @queenneptune2456 Рік тому

      I'm from California and have lived in St.Louis for years and I have to agree. This city lacks any influences to invite people to come here. This feels like more of a city people come to live in or visit family than to come here because of landmarks.

    The Windows are purportedly small in order to maximize the amount of steel in this 'keystone' part of the Arch. The two legs push together with something like 400 tons of pressure, so having big areas of glass here instead of steel would not work out too well.

    If you're still in St. Louis, I highly recommend going to this restaurant called Hendels in old town Florissant. This is a recommendation from someone who lives in St. Louis.

      It is the first bridge to cross the Mississippi south of the Missouri river. And it is the world's first steel truss bridge.

      Opened in 1874, Eads Bridge was the first bridge erected across the Mississippi south of the Missouri River. Earlier bridges were located north of the Missouri, where the Mississippi is smaller. None of the earlier bridges survive; Eads Bridge is the oldest bridge on the river.

    Will there be any more videos from the USA Trip on Adventureshawn? Aside from Niagara Falls, which I'm assuming will have a video.

    Lots of history in that area. The Arch is just downstream of Eads Bridge (which you can see in the video) which was completed in 1874 and was the 1st steel truss bridge. Also nearby is the Old St Louis Courthouse. I did a video on that one on my channel. Good stuff though.

    That's the world famous Ead's bridge Shawn! It was the first and largest of it's kind and the engineering basis for the Brooklyn bridge and many to come. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in a great historic city, come back anytime!

    I'm very impressed that you've visited St. Louis, Shawn. I'm fascinated by the Gateway Arch too. I hope to take the tram to the top one day, as I have never been to this particular city. But of course I would love to see and enjoy this landmark and wonder of engineering at some point.
