I live in CA and my first wife was from MO. The first time we drove back to visit her folks in 1968, I made it a point to go visit this amazing monument.
I went about 15 years ago, and had no idea what those elevators would be like. I am tall and very claustrophobic, and I don't remember that there was a test capsule there. I do remember that I got to the door of the capsule where a mom and a little kid were in it. My tall brother, his tall wife and I were squeezing in, and I was sure I was going to faint, but I looked at the excitement and lack of concern in the little boy's face, and I thought if he can do it, I can do it, and I knew I really wanted to have that bucket list experience, so I braved it. I was so happy I did. When we got to the top. my brother and I laid down over the window ledges as far as we could so we could see both the feet of the arch at the same time. It was soooo cool. I actually love heights, so that part was awesome. The sway from the wind was very noticeable though! My sister in law had to be calmed down by a guard over that! Great video, as always.
I remember visiting the arch as a child and riding up to the top in those tiny elevator capsules with my family. It was a great adventure! It did feel weird to walk out into the middle of the arch, knowing that no supports appeared below. But the views! Wow. This is worth a visit. I'd like to go again as an adult.
I cannot explain the joy and entertainment I feel watching your videos - it motivates me to get on the road. Your style is perfect, can’t wait to see you and dad on the road again! Perfect Duo
During construction there was a crew on the Illinois side of the river waving an American flag because they knew video cameras were at the arch. My father is there standing next to the flag. That video is in the museum below the Arch. Thanks for the Memories.
There’s definitely a lot to do at the Arch if you’re claustrophobic (or acrophobic). The museum at the bottom alone could take about 2 hours to get through.
Yeah this is an Awesome Structure and the Pod style elevator system is quite unique.. I visited this in 1991 Travelling across the States this has been a fond memory ever sense!! Thanks for taking this video very nice😅
I watched it go up when I was in high school. My name is in the top last section in the time capsule. They had us sign a paper to put it in there. I was there for the last section being placed and when the strut went up to hold legs until it was finished, Went up in it first day and was the 87th person to go up. I got a certificate for that and a button. I saved every newspaper clipping while it was built and still have them all over 58 years later.
Cool video! I'm definitely claustrophobic so I couldn't go up in the elevator, especially the fact that there would be others in there too. That museum looks really neat, will have to check that out! Thanks Josh for a cool & informative video.
Having been to the top a few times, I highly recommend it--but I appreciate that you warn your viewers as it can be a bit scary for some. As a history buff I also highly recommend the museum. Thanks for reminding me of some fun times.
OMG that view of Downtown St. Louis looks pretty spectacular. I didn't know that the Gateway Arch even had a museum as well. This was great information thanks a lot and keep up the great work good sir.
From Ct was there with my son back in 2000 an unbelievable experience now we need to do Alaska like you did on the bucket list!! Be Well Be Safe & Stay Blessed.
Good Video on the Arch. Thank you for sharing . I suggest to anyone that wants to see the Arch. Stay in South County Area ,take a Cab, Go in the daytime A lot of cars broken into on pay lots & Streets. Crime is up. More Drone Shots would be nice. You have a pretty Mom. Have a Happy Holiday
I appreciate the safety precautions they took. But it still looks too cramped to me. I will just enjoy it from the ground. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
We went in November of 2019 and they put 4 of us in that tiny tram. It was tight. Unfortunately it was foggy that day but since we’d already paid we went up anyway. The museum is really awesome & interesting.
How's the ventilation in the elevators?... warm stuffy air really adds to my claustrophobia, but moving cool air keeps it at bay. Maybe just go in cooler months to make the trip easier (as long as the heater isn't blasting lol). Nice video of the place and definitely looks interesting to see in person. Cheers! Pete - KI7LIL
Gave a real like you were there feel video. I’ve been up to the top of the arch twice. Once in 1972 when I was a kid and in Sept 2018 after it became a National Park. The next day we took an elevator down 600 ft in a salt mine in Kansas. Curious which you’d feel is more claustrophobic?
I grew up in STL and watched it being built. And while I've been up it maybe 3-4x but as I've gotten older (and "huskier") I don't think I could stand (sit) being cooped up like a sardine. I'm very claustrophobic
5:55 there's a fountain there and a few times a day it blasts water up to the height of the Arch...worth a shot (pun). I believe it's the tallest fountain jet in the world
Really enjoying your videos. I wanted to ask what camera you were using when inside the tram going to the top of the Arch. Thanks and keep up the great work!
When it was first opened, several pilots got i a lot of trouble by flying through the arch. * Too bad you can't see out of the arch when you're going up.
interesting they let you in one at a time. Would think they will let the whole fam in at once. I don't mind tight space, but I think Hoover Dam's elevator is by far the most crammed one yet. They literally push 30 people into one elevator and ignore the warning sounds.
It normally would be a whole family but my mom and I had to go up at different times because most of the tickets were sold out so that is why I was by myself.
Wow, great video! The Gateway Arch was never a place that I thought about visiting, but after seeing your video, I really want to go. However, I hate how it’s considered a proper National Park… lol
haha it is a little odd that it is a national park but I haven't read into it as I am sure that there is a good reason. St Louis is a fun city to explore as well
It’s because it is the Gateway to the West. Represents St. Louis as the starting place for many that settled to the West after president Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana Purchase. That is why it is also called the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. The park includes the arch, grounds and museum and the old courthouse.
@@suzy7645 Then why isn't the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island a national park? That was a gateway to the country. The St. Louis Arch should at the very most be a National Monument, definitely not a National Park.
Not so claustrophobic as you can look out of the window the entire way up and see stairs, tables, lights and stuff. Also, the ride down is shorter in time, only about 3 minutes.
I will never forget 2008. My family and i came here for SAG and its heartbreaking seeing how the silly little pandemic halved the experience for this man 😢
I knew there were elevators, but I never envisioned what they looked like. WOW, this was very interesting. 👏🌟
Thanks for watching it!

0:43 The Old Courthouse Looks Like The State Capital.
I had no idea that you could go up the arch. Something I would never be brave enough to do, so thanks for sharing.
I went and I can’t believe I did this 😭😭
Lovely presentation. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Never even knew you could take an elevator thing to the top of the Arch. Awesome, informative video.
Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Im so scared of heights, just watching your video made my knees quake 🙂. good job as always
I totally understand, glad you liked the video!

Five seats in that tiny space! So nuts! But what a unique experience!
I agree, it was stressful for me just by myself haha
What about titanic submarine

Awesome and amazing and completely immersive journey! So happy always to move around the world with you!
So glad you like the videos, thanks for the comment :)
Been there, Done that! Nice!
Thanks for the video for memories!
Never made it there so thanks for the tour. Be well, be safe, peace.
No problem, glad you liked it!
best tour yet, thanks

hello i,m enjoying your vlogs.............many thanks wishing you a great 2022
Great video, definitely would get claustrophobic in that, imagine if that lift broke and you were stuck in there. Really enjoy your videos.👍
Amazing views from the top!

I hope you can visit Alaska, it is incredible!
There has been a big renovation since 2000.
Thanks for another great video. Your content is so informative but entertaining at the same time. Hope you and your family are safe and well.
So glad you like it, very kind of you to say
Excellent experience! Thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
That's a big no for me, but I always wondered what the trip up and the view were like, so I'm so glad you made this video and posted it. Thank you!
I understand, the elevator is tough for sure
You have a lovely mother& son 🥰

Thanks for the tips!
Such a whimp ! Not that bad.
Just went a couple months ago and the arch was definitely a great experience!
Glad you got to experience it!
I enjoyed watching the movie about it's construction more than the actual ride!
I appreciate the safety precautions they took. But it still looks too cramped to me. I will just enjoy it from the ground. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I went to the arch with my family back in 2009 it was fun
A couple of times in my life I thought yup this maybe it. One of those times was getting into that elevator
Great video - Thanks for posting it.
Glad you enjoyed it
I lived in a high rise apartment across the street from the Arch and walked the grounds just about every day.
Been there twice first in the 70s and again in the 90s

Wow, did not know you can go inside the arch 😮

Wow! My city
I remember back in elementary school we watched a movie about this arch being built
That would be cool to see!
Does the elevator ever stop on the way up or down, I’m claustrophobic but I think I can handle 4 minutes, it just has to keep moving for me.
thanks for sharing
how does the elevator tilt. im so confused. im terrified.
Have a question is it possible to get into the elevator alone like if I want it to b just me and my gf ?

Hi mum! Goid to see you
Ugh that would be so cramped with 5 people!
I like the video, ,,
Plss go to route 66 again
Missouri
Let's fit 5 people into a 10 gallon water jug and take them up 600 ft lol
You didn't have to sit in that little car with four other people, LOL
I’ve done this and I CANT BELIEVE I did that 😭
This thing terrifies me. Something about going up inside it feels so wrong to me! :-D
haha I know what you mean. Still fun to explore the grounds and the museum though
Wow only 10 mins to stay up is kinda short
If I may ask, why are you wearing a mask when you are the only one in the elevator?
Because he's a pansy.
Probably a paranoid Democrat
If I my ask, why does it matter to you?
@@rashadd2615 tell him, your prob just a scared liberal. We get it. Dont gotta explain.
Because it’s pointless like wearing a condom to go to the mall😂😂😂

I'm surprised this bothered you with your love of caves!
Beautiful Flat Earth!!!
Make sure not to get shot!

Very nice of you to say!

Great video BUT...WHY wear the useless Face Diaper when you're ALONE??
Because germs linger.
No thanks.
People in the 60s must be shorter and smaller to fit into the lift. 😅
