I love your Off The Beaten Path videos! Love hearing about different drum shops and their inventory and how they got started in this business Keep them coming
Love your videos! I bought that Agop Traditional flat ride a few weeks ago! Hawthorne has the best options for any working drummer. Very reasonable prices, great masterclasses, and cool people. Support them if you’re in the area!
I'm originally from Miami but live in the Orlando area for about 17 year's now abd I wish we had a shop like this over here. Great video and content !!
Great episode! I love your content man. Just a word on the heavy brass snare he was unsure of. It’s a brass shell CB700 Free Floating snare. (I think they actually sold a maple shell version as well, but not 100% on that) I have the 6 1/2” version I found on OfferUp for $40. It looks like the one he has because I darkened it up from the brass finish it originally came with. I suspect someone did the same thing on his. I was intrigued and did some digging. It’s actually Pearls first version of their Free Floating snares. They were not sure how it would go over, initially, so they put it out under their lesser brand drum company at the time, CB700. It apparently did so well that they changed the lug design slightly and put it out under the mother ship brand, PEARL, the very next year. So the CB700 versions were only made for a year, from what I could gather. You have to love the design. For the price of a shell, you can have many drums, in one. These drums were made with Pearl quality and yet you can get it on the cheap sometimes bc it’s a “CB700”.
Another awesome video Mike! I've been going to Pittsburgh every June for the last few years attending a movie convention and have always wanted to check out Hawthorne Drum Shop. Chris has always been cool and is a pleasure to chat with him at the Chicago Drum Show.
Amazing story ... Good shop... Another person that started kind it or similar way it's Ben Dodge the owner of Rochester Drum Trade would be good to hear his great story. Thank you Sir for this stories.
This is my favorite UA-cam notification I get each month such a interesting look into a community im not familiar with as a trombonist Also are you planning to do any gig vlogs soon as summer gets closer? Keep up the excellent work! Love from Sweden

People will always collect things they enjoy, either intentionally or not. But it's probably harder today than five years ago.

Likewise!
this man is why i can't find any slingys for reasonable prices on reverb and ebay anymore :) they're all in his shop.
They're out there, but not like Reverb is the place for a steal anymore.
