It's crazy how eastern games does a better job at representation and diversity than western games.

I wholeheartedly agree with this video. Well said. I have actually always preferred Japanese/Eastern games over Western games because I think they are more imaginative, fun, stylish and polished.
Western companies seemingly only care about diversity, politics, checklists and have no problem releasing broken, janky games that will hopefully be fixed later. Games like Elden Ring, Zelda TOTK, SF6, FF16, etc function well at launch and are polished.
What really worries me unfortunately is the fact it seems like everyone worldwide is chasing after Western trends and ideologies and it’s even affecting some Japanese companies(Capcom, Tecmo, etc). Hope, the pursuit for Western appeal will die out because imo it’s destroying gaming, but I have my doubts sadly because the Western market is still huge.
Western Games needs to take notes from Eastern Games.

I hope the pursuit for the western audience dies down too because I don't want Eastern games trying to be like Western games, it will lose it's appeal and identity.
I think one problem is Eastern studios having an ethics department, it's not needed and will result in more censorship and force developers to alter their vision and creativity to better match Western studios.

That last paragraph is true, it got me worried as well. I love capcom but they've been low key following the western politics. Like RE3 remake for example, you know how cringe and unlikeable Jill is as a character?.
Also the whole "body type" option in character creation. I know it's not much, but this is my point. Instead of naming it "gender options" And give us male or female, they gotta go with body type A or B.
Man i really hope the Japanese woke up one day and realize they gotta respect their own value instead of catering to the west. I know Japanese are very strict in upholding their values, i just hope it applies to video games.
Just played FF16 demo, no woke characters, no woke story. 2 brothers talking about duty and burden of men, straight and simple. I pre-ordered.

Other than Mortal Kombat 1, I'm not really looking forward to any western video games which is such a shame.
There's a few that peak my interest, one being Greedfall 2, but even so, there's always the possibly these studios could try to reach a "wider audience".
Even mk franchise was getting woke but mk1 has to be the wokiest so far. Just look at the female characters... they've massively downgraded their looks. Li mei, mileena, tanya... they look damn watered down version of their past self. Kitana so far has been the only good looking ones that too in recent outworld trailer she looked really bad.
Thing is deseggsualizing is not a problem but uglifying them is. Western developers are these days very allergic to produce good looking characters particularly woman.

I am currently replaying Yakuza 7 for the third time, this time on the PS5 I had acquired after I got out of hospital at the end of May from a nasty epileptic seizure whilst I was playing FFXIV and I just spotted your video here, so I absolutely savoured this one.
Throughout my childhood during the Noughties, I generally played first-person shooters (007: Nightfire, MoH: Rising Sun), GTA games, every Driver game, Choro Q HG games, NFS Carbon and anything like that, but since I reached my twenties, I've been wanting to play RPGs and what I started with was Okami and Tales of Berseria and those were the starting points of what made not just Japanese, but Eastern RPGs so majestic when you want to examine any aspect of creativity. MMORPGs are alright to spend your time on, but even when I have a favourite one like Final Fantasy XIV, it can keep me away from going back to any of my cherished base games like GreedFall, Nier: Automata, Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Arise, Code Vein and hypothetically* Hogwarts Legacy.
* I say hypothetically, because since I _did_ buy the game from CeX along with Destroy All Humans! 2 Reprobed, I have not yet started playing it even after installing it on my PS5.
As for Western game developers that chose their investors over their customers for the long time coming in this decade, no love lost for them.
If I have to give my personal lowbrow take towards gaming fests like that summer one for this year, there is no other game except for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth that I'll waste tens of quid on, even if they're on 70% discount sale at PS Store.
Yakuza 7 was really good, can't wait for 8, idk if you played Tales of Arise yet but that one is good too, oh and I hope you're feeling better. 👍

Strong women, BLM, and LGBTQ are all checkmarks for western games.
I don't know about other genres, but for RPGs I may say eastern devs always did better than westerns. Even nowadays, where we see some drop in the popularity for eastern RPGs (compared to the past, where they reigned), they still manage to bring interesting worlds, stories and characters to us.
Currently playing Nier Automata and persona 3. Fantastic games. Nier is deep about humanity. Persona 3 is just flat out not ashamed of its “outdated” dialogue. Especially the female characters.
Only western game legit now is Rockstar games. Hope they dont bend the knee to the woke mop.
Street Fighter is a perfect example of diversity done right.
the big western game companies seems to be stuck in the past.
just look how Unisoft often makes very functionally similar games like assassin's creed and immortals fenyx rising.
they should try new styles like 1980 to 2000 graphics, radically different scripts and go back to modern people relationship strategies. learn from others. transparency and humility is key.

when a mobile game like genshin impact has more depth and is fun to play than any other western game, then something is really wrong with the western game industry.
i'm glad that lou2 clip was at the end. because tlou2 really paved the way for the f&ckery of today's games. naughtydog pushed every boundary to the max of how far they could go with the bs agenda narrative. & now every game dev thinks they can do it too. to this day, especially surrounding all the remake crap, it baffles me that people actually enjoy that game lol.

As a non-Judeo Christian society, Japanese have always been more interested in what is beautiful than what is moral. In general, polytheistic cultures are morally more relativist and have practical (not purstic) views about ethics.
Growing up, I never thought of a game coming from the west till morrowind on Xbox. I never played anything that wasn't JP (That I knew of) and from morrowind on, I never cared about anything other then "did I enjoy it". GTA3 was my 2nd non JP game that I knew for sure wasn't JP, but to be fair, I thought it was pure american and not brit.
Thinking about it now... I've really not played alot of "western" games till recently as I lost all interest in JP games.
I'm just overall sick of gaming though it seems... I only play warframe and gta5:online anymore :(
When I waa a kid I didn't know who made what game from whatever country, but when I was a pre teen I understood things more, and it made sense why Eastern games were so different compared to Western games, I generally leaned towards Eastern games over Western games.

Hopefully Bethesda doesn't mess it up, it has potential to be a massive success and might bring back fans after milking Skyrim, Fallout 4 and 76.
Developers pandering to an audience that doesnt even play games to begin with is what bothers me most. Like yes everyone wants to see good looking characters. Even if someone is ugly, do you think they want to play as an ugly character? No, they want to become immersed in a fantasy world with beautiful environments and characters. Why have developers forgotten this
games like Final Fantasy 16,7, 14, Persona 5 royal, Nier Automata and Tales of Arise had been a blast for me and are one of the reasons why i enjoyed eastern/Japanese the most
I just hope that the talk about how some Japanese studios are already going ESG road (Tecmo Koei, Capcom) will be shored lived/fail.
We need Japan/Korea/Asia as buffer to the terrible Western bull*hit.

Most of the western games I indulge in are indies, retro console emulators, and older AAA. The tme before it bacme triple Aids. I tend to pay full price for indies and wait on huge discounts for AAA games.
Eastern games are unfortunately following the west like Capcom, Square Enix, and Koei Techmo with ESG. I saw that Like a Dragon Ishin! censored the bath fighting scene by adding more steam covering the backside. But overall, they tend to be decent. I'm still looking forward to LAD Gaiden and Infinite wealth. RGG is still decent but I'm wary of them as well. At least they're not as egregious as the others and I hope they stay that way.
Yeah, sadly a few Eastern studios have gotten involved with ESG and are trying to appeal to the west, even though we enjoy Eastern games because of how different they are compared to Western games.
I hope RGG doesn't get too deep into ESG and try to westernize their games, it took them a while for Yakuza to get to where it is now and it was because of fans who enjoyed the series for what it was.

just played Like a dragon ishin that samurai one and had a naked boss fight in a sauna it was hilariously awesome and i thought only a japanese game would do that, to be honest i can count on one hand the amount of western games i've played and enjoyed not counting indies

Some of the games in the video was from Chinese and Korean studios, not all of them were Japanese games, but I can still name a few relevant JP games that came out in 2022.
Star Ocean The Devine Force, Bayonetta 3, Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origins, Splatoon 3, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
@@RevenantRemnantSplatoon is cool, Bayonetta 3 is eh... seems like a stepdown from previous games. Pokemon is somewhere between new installement in sports games and new AC game in terms of changing the franchise. I haven't heard of the other 2 games

for all well know Asian games, probably 90% are from Japan. The rest 10% are made by Korea and China.
