maybe instead of 'scan tool' keywords, try specific check engine codes and repair. Content around how a scan tool can help you diagnose and troubleshoot check engine lights. For example, scanned my check engine light with a cheap scanner got the codes P006, P0299, P0101 and still had to take it to the dealership for a deeper dive. The Dodge Dealership says it's the mass airflow sensor (they told me there were 15 ECU codes when they scanned) and the Mercedes dealership says its the EGR and EGR cooler need replaced. Would be cool to know how to reset the ECU after changing out the EGR and EGR cooler (they quoted 4-5 hours of labor) once I swap the parts myself (vs paying big bucks to the dealer)@@sprinterfix
@@sprinterfix My main issues with my 2008 seem to be exhaust, airflow and glow plug codes. I have replaced the glow plugs and module many times, struggling with egr and mass air sensor type codes, and exhaust temp codes. Honestly an exhaust maintenance video would be incredible. @@davidcrismon8346 man. I’m sorry to hear that. If I had to guess the glow plug codes may have played a part in preventing your exhaust from doing any active regen. Exhaust temp codes are a little less common. But that could have prevented regen too. I’d measure the data stream of the temp sensors before any repairs. Finally maf and egr codes are interchangeable. So maf codes can be due to egr. Can also be caused by boost sensor which no one talks about. Also against popular opinion maf cannot be cleaned. And I’d say most people clean egr wrong. Can do more harm then good. And exhaust maintenance video is certainly in order I’m not a huge fan of doing liquoly + forced regen. Not because it doesn’t work. It works incredibly well. But not as well as removal and taking it somewhere to be cleaned.
My Autel maxisys MS906BT with updates up to Jan 2021 worked fine with my 2012 Sprinter 2500 with OM642 engine until I took it to MB for the blutec AEM (Approved Emission Modifications). They changed out all emission stuff and ALSO CHANGED OUT THE ECU. So, my ECU has some 2022 firmware that I doubt any scanner without current subscription update would recognize. I ended up getting a latest version of Xentry on my laptop to be able to scan the van.
That’s a reasonable way to go. I just like how fast the tablets are. With passthru devices it can take up to 2 minutes to do a health report. What did u use for passthru for your xentry.
@@derekkchung I recently prepared a laptop for someone with xentry and gave them a cheap tactrix openport. he had the expensive drewtech cardaq 3 and was asking me if it would work. I guess that question is settled now.
I certainly could, It's kinda one of the few things I know a whole lot more about but getting into the technicals doesnt to be too interesting for people. what do you think could be most helpful around scan tools?
@@sprinterfix I'd love to learn more about resetting codes. Is that something these scanners can do? For example, if I'm installing swivel seats and unplug the seat connectors without unplugging the battery terminal and waiting 20 minutes, the van throws a code that can only be reset by the dealer and can cost upwards of $300. Would love to be able to reset my mistake on my own. Thanks!
I have a 2021 with OM651. Willing to spend a hundred to a few hundred if it makes sense. I DIY lots of other repairs on my 05 E55 but have never really needed a scan tool, always got around it I guess. What would you recommend considering I’m not even that sure of why I want one (buy I figure I should have one since the Sprinter is more modern)? Thanks!
Meh. I’d just wait until u need one. Scan tool pricing having been dropping super rapidly as more and more competitors come on the scene. The 50 dollar delphi though is usually all anyone needs. But I’m. Not sure the 2021 model year is available for delphi. And they’re are very hard to set up on windows computers

No one watches these ones unfortunately. I’d do more but they’re super unpopular. What would u want me to cover in a longer form?

I need to buy a scan tool and the Delphi looks like my price range. I would definitely like a more in-depth video!
Thank you for all your content !
very welcome, I have a couple old videos on my channel where I demo the delphi, I'd be happy to make a new one, what would u like me to cover?

Have you tried the iCarSoft MB V3.0? How does it compare to the Delphi?
Yea. I had one of those. Not terrible. Delphi is better but not worth upgrading if u already have icarsoft.
How about the ScanGuage3 ?
Had to look that one up. Seems over priced for what it is. Do u need to input year make and a model before reading codes?
