    new subscriber thanks. Wish someone would do a video emergency serpentine belt replacement with the motor still in the van

      Haha. I have about a dozen recordings of doing that which I’ve never posted. Hard to show it with the angles. I do have a belt video about sizing which is quite important. Let me see about uploading an install

      @sprinterfix thanks the belt sizing video was priceless. Exactly like you said happened and they sent the wrong 1 for my 2011 3.0 so I found the right one at another store and didn't check the number on the belt and someone put the wrong belt in the right package sleeve. What a nightmare

      Haha. Wonderful. Honestly I use the video to remind myself which belts to get when I go to the store cause I forget too haha

    Coming from a lifetime of being a tech, first 8 years at Japanese brand, and falling in love with vans in 2024 - this video was very interesting to watch. Good content. If I could go back, I would've started being a sprinter / promaster / tranist only technician and specialized in it. Mostly used to make money, so repairs are approved more often.
    And I agree regarding the service data. IMO Mercedes, BMW and (oddly enough) Hyundai have by far the most information, spelled out to the tiniest detail. Theories of operation are laid out well and if you know how to read english (for the most part...when it's in english) and know how to use deductive reasoning mixed in with a little bit of real world experience - and ya know....ACTUALLY perform tests on the components, there's no way you can't figure out what's wrong with these 3 brands if you have access to that info.

      such a thoughtful response! sounds like you are an experienced tech, shouldn't take you too long to get good at sprinter vans. buy an older one 2007 to 2009 for a couple grand and fix her up, thats the best way to learn about them haha. if there is an issue which you can't figure out you can always ask me haha. chances are I have had to deal with that issue before

    Tbh, If I’m at a services stop in the middle of the motorway (highway) and my vehicle will only do 5mph, it’s functionally stranded IMO.

      cant start your van vs cant drive your van very fast are worlds apart, this is also where some of the no start issues crop up given that people believe bluetec can be the cause of a no start issue, it creates so much confusion around this issue that isn't needed and can lead to mis diagnosis, he also confuses low power mode with emissions no start count down which is confusing as well though

  • @linvesel

    He sold me a sprinter e-class and a sprinter g63. Sprinter e-class has a 4-cylinder turbodiesel naturally aspirated V6, and the sprinter g63 has a 4-cylinder diesel twinturbo v8 that takes 91 octane gas.

    Good analysis of this mis-information. When i originally saw the video, I felt half of his complaints were operator related. I also, found him to be very shifty in his behavior.

      yea, I mean, most people don't realize that these vans are just the regular old econolines of europe so to speak. I liked his stories but some things he said really bugged me haha.

    Good information here. It’s important to have trusted sources no matter what the subject. We take care of our 2014 Freightliner Sprinter Crew and it takes care of us. Currently at 275,000 miles. Still running like a Swiss (German) watch. Great video. Thanks for posting.

    Spends half an hour trying to defend a piece of crap.... Who's paying you?

    • @sprinterfix
      @sprinterfix  2 місяці тому

      Well UA-cam is paying me. Sorta. Second. I don’t defend anything. I simply state facts. 3rd. There aren’t many pieces of crap that can last a million miles. 4th if u do like anything diesel whether it be Cummins duramaxx or power stroke post 2011 they all use the exact same parts as these sprinters so how can one be garbage and the other not? Perhaps u have simply been ill informed by videos such as this. Finally if u aren’t confident with diesels or fixing cars in general and u want a van. A gas powered transit should be your first choice.

    5miles an hour is dangerous !!!!! the original guy is right it’s not safe to drive it.

    • @dperreno
      @dperreno 2 місяці тому

      Yes, but the point is that the vehicle has run out of the urea fluid and it needs to be refilled. Think of it as if the engine ran low on oil. To continue to drive at highway speed would ruin the engine. To continue to run the vehicle without urea "ruins" it's ability to meet emissions (doesn't really damage it, but violates the law). So they did provide a "limp home" mode so that you wouldn't be stranded at your last stop. Letting it get to this point is just like failing to put gas in the tank. There are consequences.

    • @sprinterfix
      @sprinterfix  2 місяці тому

      Well. Limo home mode is an engine protective feature. Limo in mode is transmission related. And derate is strictly emissions. The gentlemen is confusing some form of limp mode with derate and that’s very inaccurate.

    • @sprinterfix
      @sprinterfix  2 місяці тому

      The original guy said the engine doesn’t start. He did not say it’s not safe to drive it. He is unfamiliar with the modes and features but giving advice regardless.

    Aside from the stories where he was just plain wrong, a lot of these stories could be found for just about any (similar) vehicle from any manufacturer. A lot of customers are ignorant and/or they completely neglect regular maintenance.

    • @sprinterfix
      @sprinterfix  2 місяці тому

      I don't mind the stories, haha, I like the stories and suspect he is likely a great service advisor, there is just a lot of perpetuating advice that goes unchecked about these vans and I feel that this video just makes people more confused. I agree though in that us customers never want to admit when it is our fault haha.
