I found your channel, because of your Will of the Many review (which I loved just as much as you did) and just love the passion you talk about the books you read. Looking forward to more videos! You should def. check out The Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff, its definitely up to your alley.

Thanks! I'll definitely check it out. Nevernight has been on my radar for a while, but I just might start with The Empire of The Vampire instead.

Great work explaining yourself without spoilers! Also could it hurt anyone if I just... skip.. the first book?

Thanks! That's chaotic energy lol I supposed it couldn't hurt anyone. I've always been curious about starting a series with book 2, but alas, mine own courage escapes me.

To be fair in terms of the anger part....if theyre bound to a dragon (pure rage) it kinda makes sense why theyre going from 0 to 100. But yeah the other characters should have had more nuance to the anger

Page count is a really poor way of comparing book length. It cant take into account which book size you read, font size, margin size etc. Lets look at Priory of the Orange Tree. In trade paperback Priory is about 830 pages. Well of Ascension, in its trade paperback is 773 pages long. Is Priory the bigger book? Nope. Priory of the Orange Tree is about 225,000 words long. Well of Ascension is 244,371 words long.
Word count has flaws too. It fails to account word length, but it eliminates font, font size, margin size, paper size, intentionally blank space at the end of chapters, pages marking off the beginning of a new "Part" - Im sure there are others. I say thats a fair trade.
Of War and Ruin, I have heard estimates of about 430,000 words. This would make it approximately larger than A Storm of Swords (414,792) but shorter than Oathbringer. Speaking of Oathbringer, was 1,248 pages long in Hardcover. Rhythm of War was 1,219. That said Rhythm of War is 459,629 words long v. Oathbringer 454,440 words long. Fun stuff, right?
Also- I FREAKING LOVED OF WAR AND RUIN.

The only criticism I could have is how Tivar and Avandeer where so abruptly killed in the dragon fight at the end but maybe it was kept vague on purpose so she can survive in the next book

It is not that he didn't have special sauce in the first book.
He just had to pull people and set up the world by telling kinda normal epic fantasy and just has been evolving world more and more now that he got people in
