Mike, thank you so much for giving your time to the series. And thank you again for putting so much effort and time into this video. I'm just so damn happy you've found so much to love in my books - long may it continue!

Hey Mike! Absolutely obsessed with this series and I’m only halfway through book two! I IMMEDIATELY clicked on this video when I saw the notification pop up. Love the videos, thanks for all the content!
This series is in the top 2 ever for me. It’s between this and the faithful and Fallen. If Ryan sticks the landing it could easily take the number 1 spot. I just loved it

I have enjoyed the series so far, however I don’t know if it’s the timing or the repetitive of the events, but the screaming, angry tantrums when lies are revealing or people and their past harms are exposed. Something about these moments irritate me. A young character that refuses to learn from his past and has to be manipulated. I don’t know if it’s the lack of maturity in the character or the tantrum from the lies that seem to rub me the wrong way.
Me too. I liked parts of it and frustrated with other parts. Mixed to more than positive so overall it was good but not great. Very memorable characters… but I am anxious with Shadow Casket since it didn’t get very great reviews… (didn’t improve the flaws, more teenage angst etc.) Seems like a good series though probably rarely end up in top 10 lists. I was already on board with these books after reading The Fall, but your extremely high praise has moved it more into a higher priority, so thanks! Oh, and that intro may have been your best one yet. EPIC
Just started the series (Read The Fall and half way through Book 1). Absolutely love it so far BUT is it me or does the story seem very similar to Eragon? Not complaining I love that series, I remember reading it when it first came out and re read not too long ago but so far seems very very similar in a lot of ways. Can’t wait to read this though.
I started off with The Fall and I liked it for what it was. Hard to get too excited for 85 pages but it was solid. I'm almost done with Of Blood & Fire and I'm wondering why this has such a cult following. The writing is just downright bad and this very obviously wasn't edited. I mistakenly bought the first 2 main books and the first 2 novellas so I will read all I've bought but if it doesn't improve dramatically then I will not continue on after that. I am a big WoT fan and I do see a lot of similarities but I don't mind that as long as it's done well. The Licanius trilogy was the same way but at least the writing was decent. This just feels like I'm watching some cheesy B movie with horrible acting. The dialog is just laughably bad at times.

The first book just needs to come with a disclaimer that reads, “I promise if you follow through with the whole series, novellas including, you won’t regret it.” Everyone reads the first book and gets turned off by its generic feel and timeless tropes but have no idea what’s in store for them.
What an amazing intro and what a great video, great to have Ryan jumping in to tell us what the book is about. I just ordered the Fall and of Blood and Fire
Tempting, very tempting. I kind of ditched fantasy after getting bogged down in The Wheel of Time and also The Stormlight Archive, DNFd both a few books in. I may go back at some point, but I'm mostly SF these days. Still, I like the sound of these and i did love ASOIAF. 👍
Similar story (different books that burned me) but I was able to change my expectations so I somehow enjoyed most of the series I read. Try the free novella if you would like it. I'm halfway through Book 2, and while I do enjoy the series it just does not click with me like it seems to for others. Anytime I start to read it I find myself just wanting to go back and read the series that it seems to pull so strongly from like Stormlight, WoT, and The Faithful and the Fallen. It just feels derivative to me, which is not ALWAYS a problem (after all, like most readers I want MORE of what I have previously enjoyed) but this one just isn't quite there for me. Still, I like Cahill a lot and certainly wish him all the best.

Dragons are my favourite part of fantasy but i dnfed the first book. I didn't mind the content it was interesting to me but i feel like the author was too similar john gwynne. He inherited all the good traits, but also the bad... It was the book's prose that pissed me off so much. Character's emotions are just stated outright and not left for us to deduce which i loved in works of other authors (scott lynch, joe abercrombie, etc). It kind of killed the dialogue for me as well. I dont need a lot of poetry or anything but man the character interactions the first book did not just land for me here, and i live for those bits. Only that you won't understand what's going on or who anyone is. If you like your stories told in media res and everything is slowly revealed, it's the best way I think.
Sometimes as I am reading this series, somethings remind me of the WOT. But now that I finished the Belgariad, Robert Jordan must have been influenced by David Eddings. Even the structure of Memory of Light mimics Enchanter’s End Game. “The Wheel of Time turns, …the Age that gave it birth comes again.” Give me all the tropes I have seen before, it makes this tale even richer!!
FYI, the letter J in Old Norse was pronounced with a Y sound. YOtnar, not JOTnar. Whether the deviation was unintentional or deliberate, it doesn't detract from the substance of your worldbuilding. It can just be distracting for those of us who are acquainted with the inspirations' sources.
I NEED to give this a shot based on how high you've been on the series. I could not get into it after reading The Will of the Many. Felt way too vanilla after something interesting... I'll go back to it, but I'm hardcore into Dune before that happens
Absolutely will be reading! My series "chonkers" list is Malazan reread, then Second Apocalypse reread, and then Cahill all the way. I'm sure others have suggested Bakker's world of Earwa but it sounds like you'd love it.

I don't think Wheel of Time fans have any integrity or self-awareness if they are criticising another series for similarities 🤣
Right?! It's hilarious.
Great series, great video. Love everything that's been released so far in The Bound and The Broken. Even the concept of "The Broken" is fresh and new.

Dang! I'm excited to read this now! Has Ryan said how many books will be in the completed series?
Absolutely will be reading! My series "chonkers" list is Malazan reread, then Second Apocalypse reread, and then Cahill all the way.
I'm sure others have suggested Bakker's world of Earwa but it sounds like you'd love it.
Currently on a palate cleanse. Just finished Swan Song a few days ago which was one of Petrik's recommendations. Loved it. This series has been on my radar for awhile now. I think I will be moving it up to my next read after I finish Skullsworn.
Mike stop messing around and get to narrating some books
Yall message Audible for me. I work cheap!
Just got his free download of The Fall and brother I am already obsessed! I have Of Blood and Fire coming to my house this week! I had to get the hardcover cause I’ve seen they look gorgeous!
I've got all of them (waiting for The Ice - ordered but not delivered yet) . Read The Fall and Of Blood and Fire so far, and I'm loving it. Thanks for the recommendation.
BANGIN' intro Mike. Will watch the rest later. 👍
Gracias!
Great, great book series. I’ve read the first 2 novels and 2 novellas. Currently reading Book 3. Each books gets stronger and stronger.
Welp, my tbr has officially been busted. I don’t think I’ve seen Mike gush over a series this much
Can't wait to read this.
