Hold everything! I have an important suggestion. Yes, put in a workbench - always useful. But make the top tilted, like an architect's drawing desk. That way, if you are tempted to just throw tools on it instead of putting them away, they'll slide off and fall on your foot, teaching you a valuable lesson. You're welcome.
When you get an idea to do something, it sticks like taffy until you get it done! It seems like you went from "cluttered shed" to "usable work space" in no time at all. And I'd consider that a "shop" since it looks to be bigger than my space. (can you tell I have shop envy?) I'm interested in seeing the whole works in operation.
Dam I need some organizational inspiration and here it is. Thanks John. I too am slowly getting my $#!t together while still using it at the same time. I now have it all limited to northeast Wisconsin.
You can tell you really like this project because you keep calling it your shop instead of a shed by mistake. It’s coming together nicely. Loving these videos very inspirational.
In your experience, in a space that size would just opening the door be enough ventilation for say, grinding or do you think you might add a "dust collector" in the future - maybe Through the old covered window?? I love the build by the way.
No? Maybe I'm thinking of a different kind of dolly, I'm thinking along the lines of refrigerator mover type dolly. You know what I mean. At any rate the job got done and thank for the reply, I really appreciate it.
A dolly can be used, but you are in a position for pulling only, and that's a great recipe for back strain. Always want to be pushing heavy things, not pulling, especially up stairs.
I Build It just wondering if you still think it was worth it to have the up and down aspect of the deck stairs vs having it be flat and a set of stair off to the side.
There is a septic tank and leach field that limits the size of the deck I could build, so it's not like I had endless options for placing the stairs. One set goes to the front, and the other goes to the back - they are just a few steps, not mount Kilimanjaro.
I Build It again john not blasting you for doing it because when i watched the video of you making it, it made sense to me, but now was just wondering if you wish that space was flat (without steps) having lived with it for a few years
John, if you are not going to be using the shed in the winter why don't you put on a barn door? It would make a good project video and save you space inside. I like what you are doing with the shed, it has given me some ideas for my own storage problems. Thanks for making the HOOK available, I didn't realize how many things needed one. Caio
How much it would have cost to throw fiberglass insulation in the walls? I know that the if you won't heat the shed in the winter there's higher risk of mould in the walls if they are insulated.
Hey, John! The "shed" is looking great! I appreciate your expertise. I have learned so much from watching you over the last few years. I just wanted to add a thought about getting more views on your videos. I know for me personally I had a hard time finding your new videos since they are often spread across your many channels. Take Matthias for example, he has two channels. So I can go to both channels and easily see his new videos and browse his old ones. It wasn't until a little while ago when you mentioned the "Subscriptions" feature on UA-cam. You said just click on "Subscriptions" on the left tab and you can easily see any new videos from your subscribed channels. It seems obvious now but I had never considered using it. I just thought I didn't need it and never gave it a try. Now it is one of the first things that I do when I go to UA-cam! I just thought maybe you could mention it again in case there are people like me who were missing your videos because it is hard to teach old dogs new tricks! Anyway, thanks again for all the great stuff!
Hi John, if you click on the little bell beside the 'Subscribe' button up above you will get an email every time a new video comes out on this channel. Same for all the other channels you have subscribed to so you won't miss anything.
+Yonatan24 : Getting the Notifications Bell to ring is quite enough for me. I just wish I knew *_how to stop all the email notifications entirely._* Is there a way to do that? All my email notifications of new You Tube uploads go to my Yahoo Spam folder (thank goodness), and never appear in my Smartphone In Box.
Hi Dav, I found this in the UA-cam 'Help Centre' Unsubscribe from all emails To unsubscribe from all emails from UA-cam, go to your account notification settings: Sign in to UA-cam. In the top right, click your account icon > Settings . In the left menu, click Notifications. Select Only send me required service announcement emails.
Hi Dav, I had trouble getting that method to work so I found an easier way. Click on the 3 bar menu on the top left that gives you: Home Trending Subscriptions Etc. Then scroll to the bottom and open 'Settings' The second tab down is 'Notifications' - that gives access to email stuff.
The shed is coming along great. Question: Given all the metal and metal-working stuff going into the shed, would it make sense to cover the built-in bench top with sheet metal? Just asking... Keep on keepin' on!
I hear you. I much prefer the plate steel, but, as you say, unless you can score a nice piece at the scrapyard, it is pricey. I just find sheet metal easier to keep clean. I use a smaller piece of sheet steel (1/2") mounted on a piece of 1 x 12 for drilling and hammering, etc. And I use my vise, of course. I completely understand your point. Plate steel is much. much better. Thanks.
I was wondering what you'd used to sheath the walls. Looked like sheetrock when I first saw it, but I didn't think that would be strong enough for the lumber rack. Particle board makes more sense. I may have to get some for my shed/workshop.
It looked to me like he screwed at least some of the uprights to sections that did not correspond to the studs. You can see the screw heads that secure the wall sheathing to the studs over to the side. Probably some of the racks did get screwed into the studs though, which would make the whole assemblage stronger.
I Build It yes most recently my now dead fathers entire shop for the second time the first was out of his basement after his open heart surgery(so he wasn't doing any lifting) would not have gotten the band saw up the stairs without the hand cart and before you ask i live in the country so rough uneven ground i have delt with also. Not a keyboard commando here do actually have practical experience in the real world after 30 yrs in the trades have learned a thing or two about working smarter not harder.
Well son, there's a reason why I didn't use the dolly and I've already answered that in another comment. In all due deference to your extensive experience moving your Dad's shop, I do know what I'm doing and have very good reasons why I do them.

How to Build a Sheddddd - How to Frame Walls For a Shed >t.co/YSI7q2P4iX?sdf43sdf3aa
“Mainly to pile junk on it, I’m good at that” - me too! I wish they gave awards for crap stacking. Nice video.
The shed is starting to look better then the shop 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Nice transformation. The organization, lighting and paint has transformed that shed.
Everything's moving, man. It's all moving!
Looks like a the plan is coming together John. Looks good and I know you will enjoy and use it once outta complete. Thanks for sharing!
Coming along good man! I dig the recessed lights.

Those lights really gives the illusion of windows in the ceiling. Looks grest. Its gonna be one cozy shed.

Lookin good John!
I’m developing some serious shed envy.
True. But still great to learn!
Love the ramps!! (Where's Matthias when you need him?)
One of the three dollies might have come in handy for moving your sander, yes? Thanks for the video.
Not for going up and down stairs.
No? Maybe I'm thinking of a different kind of dolly, I'm thinking along the lines of refrigerator mover type dolly. You know what I mean. At any rate the job got done and thank for the reply, I really appreciate it.

Credit to that belt grinder handle, imagined it pulling out when you tipped it soo fat back!!
That shed is the size of my entire workshop, feel my pain!
Serious question. Do you regret the up and down deck stairs?
Why would I regret them?
I Build It just wondering if you still think it was worth it to have the up and down aspect of the deck stairs vs having it be flat and a set of stair off to the side.

Nice work John! 😎
Why did you use particle board instead of drywall?
great progress. lookin good!
How about the camera? Will you build an articulating arm/mount, maybe?
Ventilation an issue? I wouldn't work in there with the door closed.
Thanks John! Loving the positive vibe, you are a great inspiration. /SWEDEN
Enthusiasm and organization!
6:38 Thats the Spirit!
Your next project maybe a ramp from the walk to the shed doorway for easier access with wheels?
I need to build a shed for the shed.
How much it would have cost to throw fiberglass insulation in the walls? I know that the if you won't heat the shed in the winter there's higher risk of mould in the walls if they are insulated.
It was like watching an ant try to get a leaf into its mound ;-)

I WANT YOU TO FINISH THE GAME OF THRONES TABLE TOPPER!!!
Okay, I've got "tidyness envy" now. Gotta get some of that boundless energy you have. Maybe I should switch to Canadian Coffee?
7:38 Matthias mouse maze music? John are you the mouse in your backyard maze?
I'm pretty good at starting projects and also very excellent at collecting clutter on horizontal surfaces. ;)
Another good video.
Coming along nicely. Bit disappointed at the end though, Matthias would have built a special machine to move that belt sander over the stairs.
Looking great! :)
All your horizontal surfaces are belong to us! Have you considered connecting the shop and shed?
I did and talked about that in a video on my scrap bin channel, but rejected the idea as not worth the work involved.
K, sorry, missed that one.
I'll let you off, this time :D
The shed is coming along great.
Question: Given all the metal and metal-working stuff going into the shed, would it make sense to cover the built-in bench top with sheet metal? Just asking...
Keep on keepin' on!
I'm not crazy about sheet metal on a bench. Steel plate, yes - minimum 1/8", but that's expensive.

You need a two-wheeled dolly in the worst way!
Probably the only time you've missed that back door on the shop.
The out-musik remembers me at Laurel and Hardy, the Piano-Transport.
“I have a few stand up dolly’s I could use....”
*struggles moving belt grinder up and down stairs*
I was wondering what you'd used to sheath the walls. Looked like sheetrock when I first saw it, but I didn't think that would be strong enough for the lumber rack. Particle board makes more sense. I may have to get some for my shed/workshop.
"sheathe". Should've checked that.
I’d imagine the lumber rack is secured the the beams behind rather than just sheetrock
It looked to me like he screwed at least some of the uprights to sections that did not correspond to the studs. You can see the screw heads that secure the wall sheathing to the studs over to the side. Probably some of the racks did get screwed into the studs though, which would make the whole assemblage stronger.
Its looking good, but didn't you just tell us you had 3 movers dollies? Wouldn't that have made moving the belt grinder easier?
Muito bom trabalho parabéns gostei Amarildo poa rs brazil
I gutted an old house once and someone had painstakingly packed the wall cavities with news paper. Circa 1910 ish.
You did say you had a couple of moving carts ... right? 😉😉😉
Right I've got 3 hand carts so i shall wrassle this thing up n down stairs across the yard lmao
Have either of you moved anything, other than your bowels?
I Build It yes most recently my now dead fathers entire shop for the second time the first was out of his basement after his open heart surgery(so he wasn't doing any lifting) would not have gotten the band saw up the stairs without the hand cart and before you ask i live in the country so rough uneven ground i have delt with also. Esta quedando genial!! Buen video!
Honestly, I'm still convinced the crown molding is a joke.
Hmmm ! I can see your problem, you just don’t have enough junk.
Where's that boy of your when you need 'em! The belt grinder move looked like a pain.
Don't tell me you're going to go out and buy an actual dolly
You need a wife to help move stuff around!
But then you would also double (at a minimum) the amount of stuff that needs to be moved around!
Lol, you are right!
Lots of junk
