Theoretically you can do it. Slap Zombieproof Windows and Doors mod. Make zombies deaf and blind. Loot neighbors houses for food/necessities and probably you could survive for a long time
i think this would actually be super easy, slegehammer yourself a big enough roof and then just farm and collect rainwater. basically stardewvalley but more depressing.
I like how in the last one it's all chaotic montages, while in this one it's... Calm. Relaxed at points. Almost showing that this is John Zomboid's life now--not a battle every day, but just... Routine. The way the world is, and he's come to terms with it and made it part of his lifestyle to go out and hunt Zeds.
I have noticed that quite a few of his challenge runs have the ability to just suck you into the story he has crafted. Honestly? 10/10 Skill level on Video crafting
I know the point of this entire run is the action, but the satisfaction i feel seeing john zomboid, the underdog-doomslayer wait out a cold in this cozy and safe hide out he spent weeks building… He deserves it, and he deserves more furniture. When he‘s done with his task he better have a beautiful home to watch the sunset from, that‘s not a request.

That montage after leaping from the boxcar roof, where the character is almost always running in sync from cut to cut and if you concentrate on that only the surroundings change as he runs *chefs kiss* The exhaustion spiral into spear slaughter ("I've been sleeping on spears" - Ricks, there's a reason why Lamprey uses them and stone axes so much!) The supply drop horde had me on the edge of my seat, and the weapon spec rundown before the mall siege had me grinning.

dude, the amount of time and effort you have put to only the editing is crazy!!! I tried editing a montage myself which turned out ok. But it was only 5 minutes long and took me like 3 hours to put together. Massive props for you and your patience doing these videos!!

I know this is only really the precursor to 'the big one', but would've loved if you put some more emphasis on the exploration/discovery of the various military loot, port, etc. Was craving some of that intense 'holy shit that was close but this is the crazy pay-off' action with badass music like your other vids.

You can adjust the settings in ATRO to make shotguns better, i did that and they felt much better, if you tinker around it should address your issues with them.

Zomboid needs flamethrowers for this challenge to be feasible. I mean sure you can do it with melee weapons and guns but flamethrowers would mow down a lot more zombies in a lot shorter of a time and any zombies attracted to the sound just end up walking into other burning zombies. It's not a war crime if you're not at war.

there's this 'lovely' feature part of advanced trajectories: overhaul called "Hit Or Miss." This feature makes shotguns absolute dogwater. I recommend turning that off in sandbox settings (If you still use the mod or the series)
I love the idea of a challenge for build 42 but with all the new stuff I think it would be cool to see a surviving your first year type thing for newbies
