- UPDATE FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR THE KEYHOLE TEMPLATE!
If you check out my Facebook page,

you will find a template that you can save to your computer to help make the template for the holes in the bottom of the bell.
Today I have the 2020 version of my Giant Sleigh Bells made from Dollar Tree Mixing Bowls!
2018 was the original video • Christmas Giant Sleigh...
2019 was the galvanized metal paint finish version • Faux Galvanized Sleigh...
And this year I wanted to make one closest to my original inspiration that started it all back in 2018, a metal bell with peeling paint and rusty spots.
I tried many methods, painting, adding cinnamon, even bought a special kit, and nothing worked.
So this year, yes I’ve been working on this since last year, I did a lot of research, watched a lot of UA-cam videos, read a lot of blogs and it wasn’t until I discovered Van Oaks Props, I called it the wrong name in the video, a senior moment, that I found what I needed!
He has the best channel for paint effects, made for big items like Halloween props but they can work for us small time crafters too.
His channel is / vanoaksprops @vanoaksprops
The two videos I combined techniques from were • Rusted Metal Paint Eff... Rusted Metal look and
• Simple Cracked & Chipp... Cracked and Chipped paint, this technique I knew and had tried before on a “faux birch wood logs” project but his video inspired me to add it to his other technique and they worked great for the look I wanted. I tried the rusted metal technique in full, using the hairspray and water method but on my plastic surface (I think that was the issue anyway) I couldn’t get it to work, believe me I tried multiple times, most likely user error 😉
Anyway, the two techniques combined worked and I really hope you love the results as much as I do.

The bells are beautiful!❤
Love, Love, Love . So glad I found your videos! Thank you for sharing your talents!
Also, I love listening to you! A bit of an accent!
Thanks, yes, been in the US since 97 but can't take the English accent away 😉❤️🎄
I just discovered you tonight and watched every bell video you've made. They are all FABULOUS! You just keep getting better and better! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much for that ❤️ I have this years ready to be filmed so I hope you'll be back for that one too
@@CreateandCraftwithKatie YEAH! I can't wait! Hopefully it'll be soon, I was planning on getting started in the next week.
I so love your bells!
Thanks, Merry Christmas 🎄❤️🎄
This is gonna be nice
these bells are fantastic. i am going to paint my shiny red. We do not have dollar tree in australia so I am using metal mixing bowls, they are the same shape as your bowls. thank you for your great ideas.
That's a wonderful idea! Our Dollar Tree stores have stopped selling the same bowls as I used so I'm looking for a replacement too
Hi Frances, are you using the 3 pack from kmart? as they have the lip which I thought would be great for the ring. What glue are you using?
@@Janealogy Hi Janecle, yes i am using the 3 pack from kmart. I am using a gorilla glue that says it will glue metal to metal. You need to lightly sandpaper the metal first and then prime before you paint so that the paint adheres. I look forward to seeing your finished product. Have fun.
I'm not making bells, but thought I'd watch anyway & I'm soo glad I did. Your crackle paint idea is just brilliant!! Too bad I didn't know abt it sooner bc I def would have been using it. Thank you for sharing such a brilliant idea!!
Absolutely gorgeous! I can't wait to give these a try. Thank you for sharing.
Happy to have found your channel! Love these and tfs!!!
Best DIY transformation I've seen
Thanks, it started back in 2018 when I saw real rusty bells but they were $50 each. It took me a while to work out how to create them myself and then each year since I've made a different version ❤️🎄❤️
@@CreateandCraftwithKatie I know you have I started watching you when I saw your 2018 video last year and i was astonished, I watch UA-cam from 6-8 hours a day, most of it diys and honestly your creation is my favorite. Absolutely adorable, great job
@@StayzeeDaFirst ahh thanks, each year I try and better myself, not sure how I'll do 2021 🤣🤣🤣
Oooooo this is fabulous! I’m trying to get family to do home made gift exchanges going forward. Buying stuff is absurd as everyone has what they need. Thanks Katie! 🥰 Eulanda
These are so much fun to make too! And we all need to rein in on the gift spending, it gets crazy!
These are soooo awesome !!! Thank you for sharing ❤🌲
You are a genius! I count this as a lucky day because I found your video! I have most all of the supplies already. You were able to answer and show the few steps I was unsure of. I have subscribed to your channel and am looking forward to viewing more amazing ideas!
Perfect and thanks for those kind words, these really are a very fun craft and when you make those final touches and it all comes together and they look real? Fabulous!!
Very clever and informative! I love them!
This is the first video that I've watched of your bells & love them!! I'll take a look at the previous ones as well. Thank you for sharing!!
Super cute! I am imagining places I could place these this year, just so I have a reason to try the craft project. Thanks for the detailed explanation!
Oh please make them, they are so much fun to make and you can customize them to your holiday decor 🎄🎄🎄

So glad you like them
Just come across your channel and subscribed today, I love your bells going to tackle making them. Also in Australia, going to try the stainless steel bowls. Just unsure on the glue. Can't wait to see your 2022 Bells.
Thanks so much for subscribing ❤️ For the glue to make the crackles just use an ordinary school glue, either clear or white, nothing fancy at all
LOVE these!!!!! Thank you so much for such a well explained/demonstrated video!!!!!
Thanks so much for that, it is a hard balance to get all of the information out without it dragging on for hours. But comments like yours make my day ❤️🎄❤️
@@CreateandCraftwithKatie ....I’m so happy👍 Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!!🎄🎄🎄

Love this, you are amazing, new follower. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄
Nice!
I made the medium one, waiting for it to completely dry, already crackling :) May try to do a red rusted/cracked one too since my interior Christmas decor is generally reds. LOVE your videos!
Thanks so much ❤️ I tried a red but I couldn't get the right color combo for me to see the crackles, but I will keep trying 😉
All of them - can’t make me choose...🎁💋🎄🤶⛄️❄️😘
I know! I have all versions in different parts of my holiday decor, these are going on my staircase garland which will have a little rustic theme to it ❤️🎄❤️
👍

You are very welcome, I love to be able to share with everyone and love to hear when someone makes things with my inspiration ☺️ Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄
U Rock
I SOOOOO love these! Now, I just have to figure out how Im going to spray paint them....one of the downsides to Apartment living and in a complex where yes its nice and quiet, its also full of 'tattle tails' lol, that will freak out and call the manager to complain if you spray too close to the bldg and they get even a whiff of paint while taking the trash out and happen to be upwind of your project 1/4 mile away from from everyone in the middle of the parking lot, not in anyones way, almost hidden behind the dumpster "house" with plastic AND cardboard laid out, lol!!!! I have got to figure out a decent set up for indoors, bc with a fan blowing out, its fine for a small project, but for a bigger project where Ill be spraying more than a few spurts, it gets a little challenging LOL!!!!! People are crazy, lol! And little do they know, I never get in trouble bc I cover all my bases, its just a pain to have to get a call...usually the manager asks what Im making and how it came out, LOL!!!
Anyway, Ill figure it out...nosey complaining neighbors be damned! ;P....thanks for sharing these awesome bells!!!! I love this one the most I think!
Apartment living can most definitely have it's issues. Do you have a balcony or a walkway into your apartment? If you get a large cardboard box you could use that to help with the over spray from the can, plus this project you have the bowls laying flat so need to move them around to get all the coverage. One last option would be to drive somewhere away from home and do the painting there! Once the spray painting is done the rest of the project can be done inside, I just did the glue layer and the acrylic paint outside as my weather was nice and I didn't want to bring it back inside 😊 We crafters will find a solution, we just have to craft!!! ❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️🎄
Just found your channel
Love all of your bell tutorials, I think this is my favorite! I would love to make these to hang on my columns in front of my house, do you think there is a way to 'weatherproof' them?
Glad you love them. To stop the paint peeling further and the ribbons from damage you could spray them with Never Wet amzn.to/3kECnu5 my only thought is that if you get really cold weather the plastic on the bowls could crack as it's not that heavy. But as they are so inexpensive to make it wouldn't be the end of the world if you have to make a set for each year.
Had just asked the same questions and then found yours. Thanks
Is there a way for us to get a pattern for the different size bell holes from you? I love these!!
Yes, I'm going to put it on my blog so you can print it out. I'll also add the sizes so you can size them in a photo program so you make sure they are the same size. Follow my page on Facebook, Create and Craft with Katie, and I'll post there with the link to the blog post, it will be in the next couple of days ❤️
Thank you so much! I can’t wait to make them!!
You didn't seal with anything? Or did I miss that step?
No, I use them inside and so didn't really need a sealer, even 2 years later they still are the same. But Iif using outside or just to be extra careful you could give them a spray with a matte sealer 💓
@@CreateandCraftwithKatie thank you! I'd be using inside as well..cant wait to make them!
I didn’t see a link for the wire cutters/snippers.
It's there now, I had to leave and remembered when I was out and added when I got home. I highly recommend them, I lost them for a while and almost bought another pair!!
@@CreateandCraftwithKatie thank you! ❤️
