In all the years of fishing and living in the Fl Keys and S Fl I never got into cast netting due to the seeming complexity and lack of time to learn casting. However, as others have pointed out here, your method and vid is the best I have seen. Now in NW Fl where cast netting is a way of life, I am encouraged to try again. Thanks.

The secret is to throw out the two front load of weight in the front and hold on to the end grab he mention with the thumbs and 3 fingers..the first two loads of weight you throw at first will pull every thing out afterwards. Try it...just think of it as 4 seperation..2 front n 2 back

The net is Fitec 8' with 3/8 mesh for catching shrimp or bait but it also works for mullet. I recently bought a new Fitec net and was very dissapointed. The net does not have lead weightseven though the box clearly indicates on the features panel that it has “1 Lb lead per radius foot”. The large plastic coated weights on this net are difficult to use and they hinder the throw, tangle in the brail lines easily and seems to sink very slowly. I do not recommend Fitec.

without a doubt, this is the best method and not
''height '' discriminatory, in the other methods are effective i you are 6' or taller , or atleast , smedeley vid and the one with the guy with the new buddy davis

Thank you very much - great video. I have been searching youtube videos to learn how to catch large shrimp. I want to catch large shrimp using a cast net here in Rabat, Morocco I can buy shrimp in the local stores but its really expensive and doesn't taste fresh. The Atlantic ocean is about four miles from our house.
What kind of bait would work to catch shrimp?

    Hi,
i've been practicing for this method for awhile now.
But i either get a banana, or the front of the net just crosses each other. Today was the worse, the whole net went upside down when it landed. Any idea what i'm doing wrong? And when do we let go of our last 2 fingers?
    Thank you!

hey is a nine foot cast net about the same as a ten foot because im thirteen and i throw a 9ft,5ft and a 6ft is it same to let them soak in fabric softener? plz reply:)

  • @bubbleg2012
    @bubbleg2012 9 років тому

Hi guys, I need some help here.
Every time I cast, the front part of the net will cross cross, or it will open but with a small diameter (in a circle) or the right side of the net will be straight.
When we "throw it like a frisbee" are we suppose to spin the net? Flick our wrists? And should both our hands toss in the same direction or toss in opposite directions for the net to open up? Or should we just throw the net out like we would if we are facing the lake and just like throw it out?
    Thank you..

9 or 10 foot is all the same. I keep my net in the weak solution of fabric softener for months at a time. The net I use in the video is 10 years old and I wash it with a hose before I dry it to store for the winter. Never leave it in the sun for a long time because it will get very stiff and fabric softener will not save it,

Nice! I don't like the methods where you put the net in your mouth or drape it over your shoulder and get wet. This is a method I really like and will start practicing it. Thanks for a great tutorial!

I was just out driving the boat for my friend throwing the cast net to catch mullet and as we passed a dock where workers were doing some fixen asked my friend how he liked the taste of the lead line from the dirty water. I told them he didn't watch my video.

Great vid, Great throw! I have a 6 footer, im new to using a cast net, been trying for the past few days, net in teeth, over the shoulder, spinning, not spinning, blah blah. I watched this video and have been throwing decent casts in the pool all night. Took me about 10 times before is started to open up for me but now its throwing out naturally, and even a couple "Dollar Pancakes" thanks zedmon66!

Yes you can throw a bigger net and I recommend a 8' net. Actually a larger net is easier to throw.
I recently bought a new Fitec net and was very dissapointed. The net does not have lead weightseven though the box clearly indicates on the features panel that it has “1 Lb lead per radius foot”.
