I'm 75. I loved Leslie West and Mountain from the 1st time I heard Mississippi Queen on the radio. Interestingly enough, I was in the Air Force stationed in Mississippi when it came out. Years later I saw them play live in Milwaukee at Summerfest. Leslie West is one of the great guitar players of all time. RIP Leslie.
This is just the best straight forward unadulterated playing I’ve seen and heard in a long time. Reminded of the 70’s. What rock was meant to be . No frills, no makeup, just great playing. Leslie was amazing.
Ya gotta go "way back"! The loudest band by far was Grand Funk Railroad!! HANDS DOWN!! Second loudest??? Surprisingly -- Smithereens!!! And I saw West/Mountain 4 times!!
I was a bartender at the Hard Rock in Hollywood, FL in 2007. This lineup headlined a 60s festival. They were so loud they rattled the bottles outside at the concession stand. I begged my manager and he let me inside to catch a few songs. Holy shit. Super loud and super tight. Always one of my all time favorites. Never lost his chops even after he lost his leg. RIP Master Leslie!
I saw West, Laing and Pappalardi at a small community college fresh back from Vietnam 1973 in Arnold, Maryland. Front row over packed and it was without doubt the best concert I ever saw. Felix was in overdrive... fantastic!
I was playing guitar in a power trio when Nantucket Sleighride came out. Our drummer snagged it and set about learning how to play like Corky Laing. He nailed it. We ended up covering a load of Mountain tunes. RIP Leslie West.
There's no shredding here. Just the meat, and potatoes. You can really see the influence Leslie bestowed on the likes of Eddie Van Halen who Eddie stated was one of his biggest two influences. Will miss you, big man. You played one lot O' guitar brother. RIP

I saw these guys soon after this episode aired. I waited for hours with a friend at a nightclub in suburban St. Louis. It was worth it; we got right up to the stage. Leslie West actually gave my friend his guitar pick and let him strum while he played chord changes. I bet he's still got that thing...
@@Merlin_Price naw I had just got back from work late. And heard he was going to be on, so I was Jess about to eat a late dinner when it came on. Was stunned, he didn't look like him self losing all that weight. But he had all that energy.
@@South3West77 Yeah the weight loss is quite startling. Going back to watch the other live track that youtube puts up regularly there is a stark contrast to his playing too. Saw Van Halen in "86" during the 5150 tour, with BTO opening for them. During BTO's set Leslie came out & joined them on stage for 3 songs, can't remember all they played, EXCEPT a great version of Mississippi Queen of course. It was a great show from beginning to end, still ranks as one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
