I wouldn't mind seeing one on John Kay myself . I've been a fan of Steppenwolf since I was a teenager. In high school my friend and I found a Steppenwolf record in our class room. Eventually someone brought in a Red Rider single Lunatic Fringe, and so the whole class got to enjoy some pretty good music for the remainder of the school year. Next to John Entwistle Felix Pappalardi was one of the best bassists in Rock. He was very underrated bass player he had a great bass sound and was also fantastic lead singer . Mountain would have probably made more great albums and tours had Felix not be taken.
I've come to find out I am not enamored with the concept "a jury of your peers" In this particular case this ruling supports my feelings . Even after the Judge pointed out: "She called her lawyer 1st", the Jury still ruled in her favor. If the Jurys only exposure to the evidence in this trial was the written transcripts. I would bet this would not have been the minimal 4 yr sentence. Her crying/sob story hit a sympathetic note with these jurors.
My ! All time fav bassist. Along with Leslie West in mountain my fav all time rock band.i saw em twice at the Masonic Temple in Det mi around 1970 ;;1972. West ;; Bruce and lang played cobo hall in Detroit after Felix was dead. I couldn't bring myself to go. Thanks ! For the good job done with this video. Allot of memories. I also played bass during my teenage years in a few bands and into my 20;;s.
I recall listening to Mountain’s debut album 53 years ago. I still believe that recording of Mississippi Queen to be the Quintessential Rock song. Felix’s voice on Theme To An Imaginary West has haunted me ever since first hearing. 🤟🏼
Felix created Mountain after the Cream prototype when Cream disbanded. I went to so many Mountain shows in the NY/NJ area and met the band on a number of occasions. Felix was the nicest guy out of all of them and he extended himself to his fanbase. He was a badass bass player.
I associated Felix with the early folk days in NYC. He seemed , like Leland Sklar, to be in the credits of half my LP;s. I am sure I saw him when he was touring with Richie Havens.
Thanks for bringing this terrible story to the light. When I was a teenager I bought the Mountain album with Mississippi Queen and followed their musical journey for years until Felix was killed. Their were a couple of facts in your story that I didn't know of, 👍
Good video, finally was able to get the story on what happened to Felix....So unfortunate, as he had so much to offer musically....apparently, she thought she had more to offer than he did....part of it might have been a woman scorned....very selfish of her to have her cats put down....she could have made sure they had a good home...that tells more about her nature vs. Felix than anything else could....then again, the alcohol & drug use of both did not help....& in her case, she apparently was a very bad person, if the contractors put those nests in the walls of the house....very sad all around....😢
Felix and the guys were highly respected , but never got the fame of some of the English and California bands . They were far more than a one hit wonder . Now only Corky is left standing .
This still hits home Moutain was my first rock concert and I still listen to them each week. A few years back I found Flex's solo album in a record store. It's very prized possession.
the fact that she wanted her cats murdered and their ashes mingled with hers when she died tells you all you need to know. she has no respect for life. she cares only for herself.
I remember seeing Mountain on The Woodstock Festival Bonus addition. Their bass player always gave me weird vibes so I’m not totally shocked that he had terrible judgement about relationships & gifts.
Everyone wanted to say they wrote "Theme from an Imaginary Western". It was one of those songs that had a special beauty. But it was written by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown. It was on Jack Bruce's brilliant first solo album " Songs for a Tailor" with Jack singing. "Songs for a Tailor" was released in the US in October 1969. Mountain played it at Woodstock with Felix singing and recorded it for the "Climbing" Album. There are clips of Mountain doing the song live and I think that's why people think it was written by Mountain.
Juliana Hatfield’s mother Julie Hatfield had a relationship Felix at the University of Michigan. In the 1970’s she took up again and had an affair with Felix. This is from Juliana’s autobiography “When I grow up”
Mountain ❤️❤️❤️ were an early heavy metal band without even trying to be I remember hearing them in the 80s and thinking they were so heavy for an early seventies band I guess kids call that proto-metal nowadays
In the fifties, Dr. Pappalardi (6'5") was our fatherly medic at a beautiful summer camp near Pine Plains, NY, and Felix was the most popular guy on campus, a beautiful cat--- great athlete, too. His death was a shocker.
Flowers live & studio sides both awesome. Our 3 piece garage band would jam on the Dream sequence. We were big Mountain fans. And as a bass player Felix & Mel of Grand Funk were 2 of my biggest influences.
didn't know about flowers live but the studio version just awesome, not overproduced or cluttered if you know what i mean just overall a really good record . some records just stand out that way and this is one of them.
Before the actual band Mountain, there was Leslie West's solo album that was just called "Leslie West Mountain" that also featured Felix on bass ( as opposed to Mountain's FIRST album called 'Climbing' which came after). It's such an awesome, simple rock record that featured one of the most sampled drum breaks of all time "Long Red". It's seriously worth a listen if you like the band Mountain.
Man that is a sleeper . Some of the best guitar amps were designed as bass / guitar general purpose amps. Ampeg v4, Silvertone 1483, Fender Bassman. First two are vastly underrated. Last one became the Marshall blueprint. Cheers.

I agree. Very easy to follow and retain the information with how things are set. 👍
Yeah I brought this up a few months ago, its really working.
Next to John Entwistle Felix Pappalardi was one of the best bassists in Rock.
He was very underrated bass player he had a great bass sound and was also fantastic lead singer .
Mountain would have probably made more great albums and tours had Felix not be taken.
Nope , he was not underrated
Great video on a very influential man that helped firm some of the best music of his era.
I've come to find out I am not enamored with the concept "a jury of your peers"
In this particular case this ruling supports my feelings .
Great story! Loved Mountain and Felix!!❤👍
Great offering.
Felix fan since the Cream days.
The LW quote says it all.
Felix created Mountain after the Cream prototype when Cream disbanded.
I went to so many Mountain shows in the NY/NJ area and met the band on a number of occasions. Felix was the nicest guy out of all of them and he extended himself to his fanbase. He was a badass bass player.
Met and smoked pot with Felix before an outdoor Mountain concert in Central Park
My first concert was Black Oak Arkansas with Mountain headlining. Man! Felix’s bass was thumping! So good!
I associated Felix with the early folk days in NYC. He seemed , like Leland Sklar, to be in the credits of half my LP;s. I am sure I saw him when he was touring with Richie Havens.
That was outstanding! Now i have subscribed.
Thanks for bringing this terrible story to the light. When I was a teenager I bought the Mountain album with Mississippi Queen and followed their musical journey for years until Felix was killed. Their were a couple of facts in your story that I didn't know of, 👍
You’re welcome
Two super talented people… they had so much going for them . Drugs and booze… the same ol’ story.
I really enjoy all of the content you cover. I especially like the GNR channel. Keep up the good work
Thanks
Great content as always
Very good coverage of this story.
This still hits home Moutain was my first rock concert and I still listen to them each week. A few years back I found Flex's solo album in a record store. It's very prized possession.
My first concert also. I'm 64yrs. now but will never forget that show in Miami.
the fact that she wanted her cats murdered and their ashes mingled with hers when she died tells you all you need to know. she has no respect for life. she cares only for herself.
My first time here. Great episode. Thanks.......
thank you for this informative video... Such a loss.
I remember seeing Mountain on The Woodstock Festival Bonus addition. Their bass player always gave me weird vibes so I’m not totally shocked that he had terrible judgement about relationships & gifts.
Because of one song by Mountain [Nantucket Sleighride] Felix Pappalardi is in my top ten rock vocalists. Didn't know it got this fucked up.
Love your retro KISS T-shirt!
haha thanks. I have another one too.
Always wondered what really happened with Sam Cook
Nice to see someone covering less well known names, how about Jim Gorden?
Felix wrote and sang one of the best songs from that time, "Theme from an Imaginary Western", which also contained one of the best base lines ever.
He sang but Jack wrote.
How true . Not to forget Leslies most iconic solo ...
Juliana Hatfield’s mother Julie Hatfield had a relationship Felix at the University of Michigan. In the 1970’s she took up again and had an affair with Felix. This is from Juliana’s autobiography “When I grow up”
Great job, thanks!
Produced the Dead Boys 2nd album
Holy shit, that's crazy. True meeting of the minds. I wonder what kind of drugs they did together? Hahaha
Good advice at the end.
haha yeah.
I would like more stories like this❤❤❤❤
I AM ALSO. I SAW WEST BRUCE AND LAING AND WEST BY HIMSELF. AMAZING
Mountain ❤️❤️❤️ were an early heavy metal band without even trying to be I remember hearing them in the 80s and thinking they were so heavy for an early seventies band I guess kids call that proto-metal nowadays
Very interesting. I'm an old fan. Thanks and Best Regards.
In the fifties, Dr. Pappalardi (6'5") was our fatherly medic at a beautiful summer camp near Pine Plains, NY, and Felix was the most popular guy on campus, a beautiful cat--- great athlete, too. His death was a shocker.
Always wondered what really happened after the shooting. Thanx alot....
Loved the Flowers of Evil album, especially Dreams of Milk and Honey. I once had a dream that featured Felix Pappalardi. 😂
yeah, i've still got that record on vinyl , i'll have to give it a spin , such a great record for sure, raw and heavy , great record.
Nice work but I have a hard time taking anyone seriously if they wear a Kiss shirt.
Great musician very underrated most people don't know about him but he was really good....
Thanks for this 🤟
Before the actual band Mountain, there was Leslie West's solo album that was just called "Leslie West Mountain" that also featured Felix on bass ( as opposed to Mountain's FIRST album called 'Climbing' which came after). It's such an awesome, simple rock record that featured one of the most sampled drum breaks of all time "Long Red". It's seriously worth a listen if you like the band Mountain.
I think the group Leslie West and Corky Laing were in was West, Bruce, & Laing, where Bruce is Jack Bruce from Cream.
Yep! They put out some great stuff!
I first heard his name while watching Allen Woody’s bass video where he cites Felix as an influence.
Knew his stuff from the beginning. Never knew the murder.....That was WAY BEFORE the Internet Age of Instant Gratification....
Great story. Love the you have one of the classics displayed, Hammer of the Gods. Much respect.
Bass player in my band a long time ago had one of his amps. Ampeg v4 b. Best Amp I ever heard , like a mini svt.
Man that is a sleeper . Some of the best guitar amps were designed as bass / guitar general purpose amps. Ampeg v4, Silvertone 1483, Fender Bassman. First two are vastly underrated. Last one became the Marshall blueprint. Cheers.
Yes, the V4 is a monster of an amp.
Howarc Stern talked about this guy alot and mountain especially, but jeez idr ever hearing him talk about thos crazy story
Yeah Howard used to also have Leslie west on his show all the time.
Everyone knew Felix in the 70s...seems like he had a side project too..he was well known.
I would say that this story is a LIFE LESSON in MANY WAYS!!! DRUGS, SEX, ROCK AND ROLL......, AND MOST JUST WIND UP DEAD.
good video, very informative...
I Always Wondered,What Happened to this Great MountaiN,MaN?I just Know about,Leslie West,and Felix P.,of Mountain,but not much about the drummer.Thanks 4 this History!Jcsx
You’re welcome!
