Leslie West, what a legend. Then directing the cameraman to Alvin Lee's playing, a true gentleman.
Leslie West of Mountain and Alvin Lee of Ten Years After on the same stage...this video is precious...hard to believe.....
I know right ! Two of my guitar heros ! I gotta throw Grand Funk Railroads Mark Farner in there too.
Not Alvin Lee....Albert Lee!
@paulzatorski527
That is Alvin Lee tearing up the guitar and singing....not Albert Lee.
@@ShackInc. just saw Mark live last week. Great show!
@@paulzatorski527 NO MISTAKING ALVIN LEE
Alvin Lee was special. Get him the hall of fame!!
He definitely deserves it !
Choo Choo mama 👍
It doesn't matter how many guitar's are live on stage.
You will hear Leslie!
Alvin did a great job of holding the groove down.
RIP Gentlemen
Priceless!!!!!!!!
Just curious, are you claiming that Leslie west is even in the same league as Alvin Lee? Wow, I have heard everything now.
@@david1044 As I understand it, Leslie was always the loudest guitarist on stage in these kinds of situations. I think that's what he's referring. I think Leslie's phrasing, and his playing Felix's tunes, is inspiring, though he had limitations that are easy for some to focus on. It seems like people who took lessons with him found it changed their playing and their approach to building solos (it seems that was his focus, unsurprisingly)
@@david1044 MAY BE IN THE SAME LEAGUE OR BALL PARK BUT HE CERTAINLY DID NOT ECLIPSE OR OVERSHADOW ALVIN -- NOT HAPPENING -- WEST WAS EXCEPTIONAL INDEED BUT CMON MAN
@@david1044David, I completely agree.... Alvin Lee is one of the GOATs. No one else could make that Gibson sing like him !! Shame on the R & R HofF for not inducting TYA and Alvin Lee. For their performance at Woodstock alone as generational changing. I'm Goin' Home (by Helicopter).
The Late Great Leslie West. Lost today.:( At least the music remains.
I just found this out from you. I didn't see it in the news. I was lucky enough to see him in 73 with Bruce and Lang. Now nothing but far distant memories. I was also crushed when Mr. Lee passed away too
Just wow how i hsve never saw this until 5/27/2033. R.I.P. all.
Wow you are from the future! Who won the 2030 Super Bowl so I can bet every dollar I have on it and then retire
First LP I purchased as a kid. Loved it then and now.
Columbia record club I still owe you money.
Thanks for all you gave us Alvin. The world will not see your like again.
Leslie's had his guitar hooked up to an old simple style of effect and it always sounded so powerful.
He could play one note and it sounded like a freight train just rolled in.
He said once he liked playing leads you could remember them and basically hum every note.
Just loved his sound.
And of course Lee will always be one of the most underrated rock and blues guitarist ever.
When the greats are mentioned, you can't leave him out or your list is incomplete.
Can't believe these guys are gone.
He played through the PA system! Jimi Hendricks told him that’s how he done it @ Woodstock
Hendrix. 🤦🏻
Steve Hunter, The deacon, is a monster of guitar.
I remember when I bought this album back in the day. Miles Copeland, IRS boss had this label within IRS called something like no words for instrumental music hw is Stewart Copeland's brother, in fact he helped his brother's band The Police when they were starting and He, Miles is the man behind this live album "NIght of the Guitar" and tours. Truly a musical legend Mr. Copeland.
Videos like this is what makes UA-cam worthwhile. True rock and roll history.
Oh man!! This is golden... WOW! I grew up with all these guys and the music nowadays just doesn't compare.... I was so freekin lucky to grow up in the 70,s..... Ive played guitar for 50 years and my playing was influenced by all these guys... God bless you all... someday I’ll be able to play music with all of them...Yeehaww!!!
It sure was great growing up with such awesome music. I had the mountain live album, what a album. These kids today don't know what real music is, sad.
I too have been playing guitar for over 50 years, and I love these guys Forever.... just saying 😛
Im sure every generation probably claims it but we WERE fortunate gentleman…🤙🏻🎸
Alvin Lee...what a piece of work. If he didn't get you moving and grinning there was something wrong with you.
I learned to appreciate Leslie West most in the last ten years as both a rocker and a bluesman.
Steve Hunter, Steve Howe of Yes, two of my favorites. Hunter, along with Dick Wagner, provide the greatest dual lead guitars I've ever heard on the Intro to Sweet Jane, on Lou Reed Rock and Roll Animal, and, starting with Billion Dollar Babies, joined Alice Cooper along with Wagner.
The guitar solos on the non acoustic version of 'Heroin' on 'Rock and Roll Animal' live is some of my favorite guitar work ever. I still love the acoustic version by The Velvet Underground but this live version makes me so happy.
The Frost played my high school in Windsor Ontario. What a great band :-) Peace
@@andrewcarpenter3991 that's what I thought the Heroin solo
They fony make rock n roll groups like this any more.
They did it live on stage.
No computer help at all.
The way it used to be. Live
Alvin Lee was special. Looked like Leslie knew that as well.
Alvin was so far ahead of his time, I can tell he truly loved to play for people.
I have an album by Alvin Lee, RX5 and I love it.
Had to watch this twice. So much to see. Leslie West was the man. A stage full of legends.
R.I.P. the legendary Alvin Lee
How have I not seen this video before????? Leslie and Alvin. Bloody hell!!!! Two of the greatest. Now I need to did for the whole concert. Both these guys did not get the love they deserve. Thank you both.
Big shout out to Derek Holt from the Climax Blues Band who held the Bass together on this performance and others during this Concert 👍🏻
RIP Leslie West, 12-23-2020 at 75 yoa.
Alvin Lee, a king among heroes.
⚡️🎸❤️
what an incredible assembly.
when Andy Powell walked forward with his flying V, just the cherry on top.
Thats sooooooo great .... its a real steaming BLUES-engine ...full of power 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Listening to all that talent on one stage made me get out of my chair, get on my knees, and thank the Lord that my ears still work fine.
This is gold, jerry, gold, freaking awesome
Blues Rock Legends 💙 RIP Leslie West 💙
broke my heart too when alvin died....rip ...much love
I named my dog Alvin Lee!!! My Idol!!!
Rest his soul!
All this great talents gone - very sad!
So sad He'll be missed I surely will He's finally gone Home
What a treat to see Leslie West, great player with a kick ass style, almost like he's playing with a slide. I like how he moves about the stage so easily like he would in his own living room. The one guitarist up there that I think about all the time is (who else?) Alvin Lee. R I P mate!
If I had to pick 2 I'd go with Led and Alvin,no doubt.
I just love the way Alvin Lee mixes all the songs together! It's way too bad that he died. Who is going to replace him who is as good as he was?
you know its a damn jamfest when it takes almost the whole way thru to let us know that Copeland is on drums
Stewart didn’t get on the drums till the last 2 minutes.
Thank you for posting. Amazing jam.
Alvin Lee RIP - Randy California RIP.
Why wasnt Randy playing guitar?
RIP Alvin Lee. My Heart Cries, You will be Miss You will be Missed.
.
wow!!!!! im blown away 2 of my biggest heroes together , alvin lee and leslie west.....its ashame it took leslies death to dig deeper and find this gem.....R.I.P. all of you legends that have brought me so much great joy over 50yrs.........
Leslie's licks are unsurpassable...best shredder in the world. He reinvented the guitar completely...
Leslie , in my opinion is one of the most talented guitarist ever.He doesnt try to play fast, however his licks are short and sweet
And to the point.
Thank you.
your damn right !!!!!!!
There are Guitarists...and then there's Leslie West
@@stewgotz1
Is this pagan from chat room?
p schmidt Very underrated. Saw him at Woodstock. Awesome!
I always enjoyed Alvin Lee's vocals & guitar. Lee really shines as vocalist in this live show. What a true rock voice. Up there with Presley, Jim Morrison, John Lennon & yeah, even Jerry Lee Lewis. Many of his tracks were fiery. Leslie West is always incredible. Steve Hunter & the others all monsters of guitar. I also admired the reason Alvin called his band Ten Years After. He said the band formed 10 years after Elvis Presley. Appropriate. RIP Spirit's Randy California also.
Alvin is the man for me
Back in 1974 I was playing lead guitar in a band called Medusa, we had a review in Melody Maker and the reviewer said we were like Sabbath with Leslie West on guitar. I'll take that any day of the week even now.
When Alvin died it broke my heart. He brought so much joy into this world. It's like the lights went out. I still play your music Alvin. Although we only spoke a couple of times, I want to thank for teaching me how to play rock and roll.
Thank you for uploading this gem. Very seldom will you see such a compilition of masters of guitar on stage today. I am sad to say that "gone are the days of the knights", although their legacy is eternal.
It was from a tour called night of the guitars...not looked but I'm guessing there'll be clips on YT, they all did their own set and then jammed at the end. It was so good because at the time there was all the up and coming shredders and it was good to remember these guys could absolutely kill it.
just simply the best , Alvin may not be in a class by himself but it only takes a moment to call roll, Captan Speedfingers ,fastest Guitar in the West, the Guitar that stole Woodstock....
You can say that AGAIN. Nobody could "smoke" a Gibson like that!! He is one of the GOATS in the Guitar world. R.I.P. Alvin and Leslie West. Amazingly, Alvin Lee passed away about 6 months after this concert. It was never revealed of what other than some operation that was performed in Spain where he lived. "I'm Going Home.....by Helicopter"... That was WOODSTOCK. TYA never got the acclaim as agreat Blues /Rock band with Captain Speed Fingers.
I am a huge Alvin Lee fan. Leslie West here with him is outstanding. Hard to be cooler than Mr. West. R.I.P. Legends
Guitars and skins extraordinaire!
Amazing you could put Steve Howe on an acoustic in the background and not even care. What a lineup. RIP Alvin and Randy. Steve Hunter just up there getting it done like always.
I agree . . . it is almost surreal seeing Steve Howe not strutting on the electric . . .
@@stevenbaty6247 totally agree! They are all great, but Mr. Howe should have had his chance to shine
Yes, it's interesting how Steve could have ended up as "the acoustic rhythm guitar guy". I'm wondering if he volunteered for some sort of "Steve Howe reason". Howe can certainly play and write rock and roll tunes, but maybe he thought his lead style would stand out too much / not fit in or something.
@@ElrondHubbard_1Howe playing rhythm on an acoustic no less 🤣👌
Steve Howe can toe 2 toe any of these guys .. shame seems maybe a class move for whatever reason on his part ?
Honestly these guys sound like they been playing together for years!
Perfect jam of real musicians!
Went to a Mountain concert at University of Colorado Mackie Auditorium way back in the early 70's - Leslie West almost blew the doors and windows out. Went to a Ten Years After concert at the Golden Bear across from Huntington Beach pier in the early 70's and it was the same deal -- Alivin Lee almost exploded the boards off that place. And Randy California with Spirit concerts back in the day were mindblowing.
It's amazing how good Les can play guitar. I saw him at Woodstock, blew my mind how good he and Mountain were. He's one of my three favorite players.
m. saint me too, he plays some of of sweetest slide you ever heard.
Much love & respect to all these players, especially Randy California & Leslie West.
Steve Hunter is one of the greatest Bluesmen I have ever heard, and what can one say about Leslie West and Alvin Lee, just stupendous.
We never will see this amazing line-up together on stage again. :( :( :(
Poor Steve Howe stuck out there with an acoustic guitar ! What a downright jam that was !
True. Steve is still an excellent guitarist. I do see what you are saying.
Alvin Lee Ten Years After Undead, 1967. Listened to that album everyday for two years until I graduated and moved. Still stands up; classic
Look it up. He was killing it; basically invented shred. Nobody could touch him.

Night of The Guitar. I have all three cassettes, now on a flash drive in my car, with about 450 other cassettes. Took me a year. Worth it.
what a treat this is! Just thankful this fine music will live on forever and never be forgotten!
heard jeff beck rambling about sly at woodstock being so great...wtf? alvin tore the fucking hippie shit apart.....killed it
All great players, but Leslie West is my personal favorite, simply love the way he plays.
Nothing better than a bunch of the Greatest get together on one stage.nothing but Love on their faces for what they Love the most. Rock n Roll.Every time I watch Woodstock the movie.and I had never seen or heard of Alvin Lee.when he comes on that stage at night and does I'm Coming Home I get chills on my arms and legs.incredible then he grabs that watermelon and walks off.tanks for the video I love it.
drohegda it’s “Going Home” thank you
that Woodstock performance of 'I'm Going Home' was gold! Gawd he could play!!
R.I.P. - Leslie, Randy and Alvin. Tony.
This is too cool!!! Leslie, Alvin, Steve H. and the rest, true heavy hitters of rock & roll! This video should be cherished as it can never happen again. ♥️
Love the way Leslie just looks at everyone and knows EXACTLY what to do!

Hunter one of my top 5 always - but man what a line up! And Howe going crazy on the floating guitar barge!
So nice to see that mile o' Marshalls across the back line of that stage...sounds wonderful!
Powell and Turner ""Wishbone Ash"" ,Steve Hunter the Deacon, Leslie West "" Blood on the Moon"", Steve Howe the group""Yes"" guitarist my favorite tune "" I'll be a round about"", Stewart Copeland the Police played a basic drum set like a maniac, Randy California "" I Got a Line on You"", Alvin Lee for me seeing the movie Woodstock for the first time his performance was the one etched in my mind. Him and the band 10 Years After came out at night his Red electric Guitar and Alvin said we are going to do a song by Helicopter they did ""I'm going Home"" floored the place! After he was done someone gave him a watermelon he had on stage he put his guitar done and tried to put it over his shoulder but he was exhausted so a roadie carried it for him. What a bunch of Greats assembled together. Thank you for the Video.😁😎😁
Great description, just how it happened!
All that talent. All those Marshall Amps! Helluva performance.

We are all lucky to see such a fantastic line-up this century
Amazing super session 👍👍❤️
After following REO speedwagon to a small bar after a show in Grand Rapids Michigan, they played this song for my birthday request.
We walked into the bar a couple minutes behind the band and I sat down next to Gary Richrath. I immediately struck up a conversation. Nobody in the bar had a CLUE who they were, so we were uninterpreted. I mentioned it was my birthday and that I was at the show (asking him to autograph my ticket stub). Kevin Cronin was talking to the house band about giving up the stage and their instruments to play a couple songs for the patrons, so Gary asked if I had a birthday request. Without thinking 'Little Queen' came out. Gary just laughed saying "not with those instruments". Every band knows Johnny B. Goode, so that was my next request. Gary just smiled and said "we can do that".
This was in the late 70's, about the time the 'Tuna Fish' LP was released. BEST BIRTHDAY of my life, and this song always reminds me of that night.
Ask and ye shall receive ! 👍
There's some world class talent on that stage.
Shit-kicking music. Love every second of it.
Can't get any better !
Is that Steve Howe on an acoustic guitar, in the background?? Really?? Amazing!
