In Javanese culture, "Kidul" means is South,
Lor - Kidul (North - South), Kulon - Wetan (West - East)
    for example,
    Parangtritis beach is the part of Southern beach java;
Ujungkulon (Ujung Kulon) National Park is a place in the far west java
So, Alun-alun Kidul means The South Square...and also have Alun-alun Lor (The North Square), nearest end of Malioboro street
"Alun-alun" is the part of Yogyakarta Palace (Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Sultanate)
*they have luxury restaurant, "Bale Raos"...you can try it too

Goreng means fry but gorengan fries or fritters. Susu jahe : ginger milk. You're entertained by street musicians. Nasi goreng = fried rice or rice which is fried mixed with seasonings. Thnk you but you can't answer = sama sama or same same in English 😅

Alun alun kidul it means Southern Square (there is Nothern square also in Jogja). Alun-alun is kinda big square field in almost all city and town in Indonesia even a village. Back then in kingdoms era all over Indonesia, that square is for festival, ceremony, gathering, playing, hang out, etc. Before Indonesia was born, we had dozens of kingdoms and empires accross the archipelago.
Typical in Indonesia specialy for Javanese, they sit on the ground when eating, thats called Lesehan.

"goreng" as you see at all indonesian restaurant it means "fried" so if you see "nasi goreng" it simply mean "fried rice", and also in indonesia whenever you say "terimakasih" the locals will say "sama-sama" which means "same to you' because "sama" it means "same" btw enjoy our beautiful country :)

Bakso in Indonesia is meatball. The difference between Indonesian meatball and western meatball is we boiled it. Not grilled. And the reason why some meatballs have a bouncy texture, is because they mixed the meat with flour. The more the flour, the more bouncy it gets. And also, the cheaper the price, the more flour you will get. Because the price of meat is quite expensive here in Indonesia.

Hey there, I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this before. There's a famous myth in Indonesia, especially in Java. Once you set foot in Yogyakarta, you'll miss it and want to come back again. Yogya is like a magnet. Once you visit, you're sure to be back for more.
And your video brought back so many memories of my time in Yogya.

Good to see when tourists travel to Indonesia they eat Sundanese, Javanese, Sulawasian, Sumatran and Banjarian food. Sadly when they come to my country, they skip Malay food and opt for something that majority of us had never savour in our lives due to permissibility in our culture.

Indonesian Nasi Goreng and Mie Goreng have a very distinctive taste because of the use of shallots and kecap manis. Some stalls use oyster sauce or some fish sauce to get a bit of chinese style. But Indonesian Nasi Goreng indeed have that very distinctive taste of shallots. You might've taste the shallots in many of our stir fried dishes and sambal (spicy sauces).

The unique taste in nasi goreng (literally means fried rice) that differentiate this from other fried rice in Asia is the added Kecap Manis (sweet soy sauce).
That is probably why you said it's similar to indomie goreng, bcs it also has kecap manis packet. And probably some msg, garlic/onion, salt, oyster sauce in there as well 😊
    Enjoy your trip!

actually, there's a term in Indonesia where you eat on the floor ... it is called: "Lesehan".
so if you prefer to eat on the floor rather than on the bench, you can search in google by adding word "Lesehan"
e.g: ayam goreng lesehan (fried chicken and eat it on the floor)

But just for a reminder, for good food, you still need to search internet rating.

bakso means meatball, eg: bakso ayam (chicken meatball)
    Goreng means fried.
Bakar = grilled. I think you had ayam bakar with the nasi goreng.
Permen karet. Permen = lollies/sweets/candy (depending where you are from). Karet = rubber. But together permen karet means bubble gum.
