As an advanced beginner in DCS, I'd recommend buying the L-39 Albatros or the F-5E Tiger for beginners because they're pretty easy to learn. Of course, you can buy only one of those, the only difference is that the L-39 is from the east and the F-5 from the west. If you want to get into a high fidelity plane, skipping training aircraft, I'd rather get the A-10C or F/A-18C because both teach you all the modern stuff from gen 4 aircraft and both are well documented. They also differ because the F/A-18 is still in development.
To add on to that, I highly recommend buying the Kursant campaign for L-39 - it's hard, but it does teach you a lot (how to manage frustration, among other things :P ) - it will teach you some discipline while flying, for a start.

For high fidelity i bought the Viggen(Great plane fun to fly the controls and cockpit are analogue which can put you off but shes a great planes who keeps killing me from blacking out during low level high speed missions) I also bought the F-18 Hornet and i would recommend this plane for someone who wants to do it all, its the best Multi-role plane in the game i find. Bombing, Air combat, Anti Sam and ship or just fun it does it all and is easy to start up and take off can be up in about 5 mins, 10 if you still learn the button layout. For Starter pilots if you just want to do Air combat the F-15c is one of the best jets in the game as a pure Air combat jet. As someone who just bought DCS and Flaming Cliffs 3 a few days ago, it might be worth knowing the only tutorial that works is for SU-27. I did some digging on ED forums for the rest, and they are in the game files, but they're apparently outdated/buggy. I'm not sure if the FC3 planes all have working tutorials when bought separately
Buying the pack or the individual modules makes no difference with regards to the in game tutorials for the FC3 modules. A quick history lesson, Flaming Cliffs (FC) was a series of mods for LOMAC - Lock On: Modern Air Combat - LOMAC was the forerunner of the game we have today DCSW - Digital Combat Simulator World. FC3 was the 3rd version of the mod which "ported/recreated" into DCSW. I believe it is because of this that the in game FC3 tutorials exist now only as videos rather then flyable missions. PS try the instant actions i think they have text instructions but cant remember
@@slysi5209 It's a little stranger than that. The original Flaming Cliffs added the 25T to the original LOMAC aircraft. FC2 was the LOMAC + FC aircraft added to DCS. Now the 25T is a part of DCS, and only the LOMAC aircraft are in FC3. All these aircraft have been completely recreated, and none of the original work remains. I've seen quite a few times where tutorials / missions have been broken by updates to the engine, including in the original LOMAC & FC patches, and even DCS updates breaking FC2 missions. Eagle Dynamics has a history of this, I hate to say.
Su-33 and MiG-29 behave roughly similarly (not talking about flight model) and have almost identical avionics (as far as beginners are concerned, at least...). You can basically copy-paste your profile from one to the other and you'll be mostly good to go.
I bought the F-5E as my first plane and think it was a good buy. didnt take me alot time to learn basics in it and you can use it pretty much in any role you want. great trainer plane.
started with the a10c 2. yes, steep learning curve but great aircraft! you know it faster than you think & you can bomb everything in a great amount of different ways. every aircraft deserves the money they charge for it, especially the high fidelity ones.
Heads up to anyone who wants to buy the harrier, I strongly recommend to you that you find a way to set up head tracking or else half the buttons of the MFDS are impossible to see as you cannot lean over to see them. Therfore you loose access to 10 buttons on the MFDS you need in order to arm bombs and set way points and what not.
If you want to do it logically I'd suggest - Su-25, get to know it see how the game works (plus it's a good attack aircraft), FC3 (lots of planes - some similar to the Su-25 , easy to fly, not too expensive), you could then consider the A-4E (free!) then I'd suggest for your first big module F/A-18C (well made module, does most things pretty well, a bit complex but by now you're up for a challenge). Rotary wise probably get teh Blackshark (simply because it's the best attack helicopter in the game at the moment). Something to be said though for going the emotional/love route and just buying the plane you most like and working at it and mastering that - whatever it is.
If you want the most content per currency get just the F-15C on sale then search DCS mods and load up! I have like a few dozen Modded planes now and only a handful of offical planes.
I would recommend getting FC3 first since you get 7 new planes (it would be 8 but SU-25T is already free) which means you can do any role (A2A, A2G, SEAD, carrier operations, A2A refueling...) and it also means you can fly both in blue or red side (if it is a server or mission which is East vs West). If you're into rotary wing stuff I would suggest getting the gazelle since it comes with 4 versions (pretty much AT, AA, one with a minigun on the side and another one with a cannon and rockets and it can do very light transport) so its the one that can do more stuff, it has a RWR which is cool too and it's really small and maneuverable. For full fidelity (back to fixed wing now) I would suggest the F/A-18C Hornet because it's kinda like a full fidelity FC3 (it can do A2G, SEAD, AA, A2A refueling and carrier operations all in one airframe so if youre on a strike mission but get jumped by enemy fighters you can switch to AA and defend yourself nice and easy or you can destroy AA defenses without relying on anyone else like you would on a A10) and it's not hard to learn either. Like that you can do anything in DCS with the least money spent and you get to see how its like doing certain roles before you buy a module thats 100% that role just to regret it (not that I've heard it happen to anyone but you never know). From there you'll just get the other modules as you desire I guess. Like if you feel like getting a plane that can vertically take off and land then get the harrier, if you feel like flying something like an apache that has an ejection seat get the KA-50, if you feel like flying something like a blackhawk then get the huey or something that has a huge payload and it's tough, has a hell of a cannon (BRRTTT) and can detect IR missiles and its full fidelity then get the A10C and so on...
I'd love to get into DCS but my PC doesn't meet the spec requirements to run DCS World. BUT, if I was able to run DCS and get into it, I'd start off with the Community A-4E, FC3, L-39, and the F-5E. I'd also get the Yak-52 and Christen Eagle II just for fun. :)
I had to option to get a ton of modules for free from a guy I bought a warthog setup from, but it looks like they make you jump through hoops to transfer licenses, so here I am at this video now, lol.
Similar question; what's the best aircraft to use in VR, which has the most readable dials or cockpit's? I've enjoyed the P51 which was fun, but what decent reasonably priced fighter?
Didnt know DCS existed till a few days ago..... the Canyon Run video got me HOOKED.... I think DCS need to be paying the GR for advertising :) Coming from RC planes and Quads so hopefully I should have this mastered in no time... Hotas Ordered.... software downloaded + FC3 ready to go :)
I bought the f-16, started with that, and absolutely loved it! Ended up joining a squadron and now thinking of a new module! I love harriers and was advised against the AV-8B, any suggestions!
I think a good high fidelity jet would be the f/a-18 cause it's a fighter/attack plane and it's carrier capable still never used it but it seems like it would be
Rule number 1: get planes when they are on sale. Sure it’s worth it, but buying a hornet for 80 dollars is a lot. The (expected) 10% off can save some money.
DCS should pay you some serious coinage, if not put you on their payroll. I cut my teeth on the very first warjet simulator - an F 18 scenario set off the coast of San Fran put out for the Amiga Commodore. I followed the genre as devotee for a while, but cut out in the late 90's. Too much real war going on. Now may be good time to re-enter, and your gig is the coolest around, so thanks for the intel I need.
@@AnvilAirsoftTV Nice! What the hell was that last mission? I wound up living there, land on the roads, drive around , got the point I would parachute out and land on those "wings" at the top of the Transamerica building. Took a lot of tries before I could time it just right. But the game was truly great because for the 1st time it gave the little people the ability to experience something that was until then strictly in the realm of the military pilot. Same for the 1st Formula One sims.
Spherian7 you had to splash a couple of migs and then destroy the submarine aircraft carrier. Apparently it was doable with enough missiles to the conning tower but you had to go and land and re-arm and come back.
@@AnvilAirsoftTV I remember now! Thanks! That really was a bear, but thank God I hated my boring job and so had the time to devote to our noble cause. You are a brother to me, now. WELL DONE !
I'm struggling between the harrier and the hornet. I want the harrier because it looks so sexy and to me it's one of the best planes the UK ever had. I also want the hornet because it's the closest plane to the f35. When the Falklands map comes out then the harrier will be better. Only wish the harrier had decent campaigns like the enemy within.
Low fidelity is great for beginners I guess but not having clickable cockpits is just ridiculous I think :D so much harder to learn a million keyboard commands than actually learning in the cockpit... really irks me in DCS!
Cap,when do you think there will be a steam sale for DCS? Will July or August see another sale? I cant afford the F/A-18C full price, but i could afford it half price just like the April-May sale.

Could I join your group with just 4 4th gen high fidelity jets(F/A-18, AV-8B, Mirage 2000, A-10) or do I also need a 3rd 2nd gen jet, a warbirds and a helicopter?
Planning to buy the Heatblur F-14 once I get used to DCS plus the Flaming Cliffs F-15 and MiG-29 and I think it was Heatblur F/A-18. Not sure if its the best tho what do you think? Cap & The GR Crew.... Really enjoy the vids that you push out. Just a few questions if I may 1. What flight controls would you recommend that would cover multiple generations of aircraft and for helicopters. 2. Is it worth going with the VR system or r with the Itrac mode? You and The Crew keep up the great flying. Look forward to any and all replies
Let’s say that I’m an average person who doesn’t want to spend money what should I do? Install mods Or be stuck with the 2 default planes from my whole life?
Or just wait for Modern Air Combat that was announced in the summer and was due to release in autumn last year. It's basically FC3 with F-5 MiG-21 Saber MiG-15 and albatross added. Then you only need to buy a warbird and a helicopter for full DCS experience. Where is my MAC Eagle Dynamics? You promised! :P
@@SilverlightUnicorn MAC would be a separate program from DCS, which will all of the same assets. It employs a completely different control scheme to make keyboard & mouse viable for play, and requires simplification for all aircraft involved. I think the question is whether MAC players will then be able to use their non-FC3 aircraft in their DCS forms, or whether these aircraft will also have FC3 level modeling in DCS. I also would expect MAC players to be on separate servers from DCS players, as they will be running different programs. FC2 brought LOMAC + FC aircraft into DCS. FC3 updated the LOMAC aircraft models and flight models. But MAC won't offer anything new to players who want realism for DCS. It is a hook to try to create a bridge for casual players to get into realistic sims.
Download DCS for free on your machine and see how it runs with the free Su-25T. Check out system specs for individual modules. Once you are satisfied that your computer will run DCS adequately, how much money are you willing to spend a joystick? Also, pretty important to have some kind of head-tracking to look around your virtual cockpit if you don't have VR. You can use a webcam with FaceTrackNoIR if on a budget as a cheap (not free, and not as good) alternative to TrackIR, although it is a pain to set up. It can be done, though. Your peripheral cost might be $50 - $1,000+ depending on what you decide, but you can get 10+ years out of peripherals (provided you don't just abuse them), so in the long run they are far cheaper than video cards. Don't buy Saitek, imho, as it is cheap garbage which fails very quickly in comparison. A peripheral that costs 3 times as much (also is far superior), which lasts 6+ times as long is a bargain in comparison in the long run.
I hate that you have to buy every plane seperately. if you could buy a copy that comes with all if the beginner planes he suggested that would be awesome
The free 25T has much more advanced weaponry and sensors than the paid 25A, and is much more capable. The 25A is faster, lighter, more maneuverable, and has a longer range. The reason the 25T is available for free (and not the 25A) has to do with the history of the development of the Lock On series, and old licensing agreements with Ubisoft which published the original Lock On: Modern Air Combat, as well as the development history of DCS. It's complicated. Pro-tip: Just buy FC3, or if only buying a single FC3 module, don't buy the 25A. The 25A is fun in it's own right, don't get me wrong.
@@Beast-mo9bu Glad to help! I'd recommend a fighter as something different to the 25T (the A-10A fulfills a similar mission). The Su-27(S) and F-15C are the most popular, with different strengths and weaknesses, although the 27 can also carry bombs and rockets while the 15 is only air to air. If you are set on a MiG-29, the 29S is more advanced than the 29A. But it requires more attention to fuel management than the 27 or 33. If you want a naval fighter, the 33 is the only FC3 choice. It also is the only Russian jet with air-to-air refueling in DCS.
You may try to find Flaming Cliffs 2 game on torrent first, as DCS is pretty much the same game with updated graphics, and if you like it, you can go buy FC3 or High Fidelity aircraft to fly online.

Su-33 and MiG-29 behave roughly similarly (not talking about flight model) and have almost identical avionics (as far as beginners are concerned, at least...). You can basically copy-paste your profile from one to the other and you'll be mostly good to go.
These guides are top class, very much appreciated!
I bought the F-5E as my first plane and think it was a good buy.
didnt take me alot time to learn basics in it and you can use it pretty much in any role you want.
great trainer plane.
FC3 first after that, Hornet and JF-17 have the best value right now. After that either Tomcat or Viper, then after that whatever anyone fancies.
Thanks for the tips , just migrate from BMS to DCS , great channel , done subscribeb
started with the a10c 2. yes, steep learning curve but great aircraft! you know it faster than you think & you can bomb everything in a great amount of different ways. every aircraft deserves the money they charge for it, especially the high fidelity ones.
I would recommend getting FC3 first since you get 7 new planes (it would be 8 but SU-25T is already free) which means you can do any role (A2A, A2G, SEAD, carrier operations, A2A refueling...) and it also means you can
fly both in blue or red side (if it is a server or mission which is East vs West).
David the Pilot I don’t recommend FC3. Without clicky cockpits, it’s just like any other sim.
Thanks, exactly what I needed this morning :)
Thank you! this video helps lots 😊👍
BIG HELP, THANK YOU
The hornet is the king. Flaming cliffs are ok, but unclickable cockpits ara lame! Especially in VR.
My favorite attack jet is free the Su-25T but I would buy Su-25A,Su-33,MiG-29,J-11
Just get a plane that you really like and you dying for it lol
F-18 or 16 I imagine?
Didnt know DCS existed till a few days ago..... the Canyon Run video got me HOOKED.... I think DCS need to be paying the GR for advertising :) Coming from RC planes and Quads so hopefully I should have this mastered in no time... Hotas Ordered.... software downloaded + FC3 ready to go :)
Appreciate the video.
Had no idea there were low fidelity versions
I bought the f-16, started with that, and absolutely loved it! Ended up joining a squadron and now thinking of a new module! I love harriers and was advised against the AV-8B, any suggestions!
I think a good high fidelity jet would be the f/a-18 cause it's a fighter/attack plane and it's carrier capable still never used it but it seems like it would be
Rule number 1: get planes when they are on sale. Sure it’s worth it, but buying a hornet for 80 dollars is a lot. The (expected) 10% off can save some money.
Thanks Cap!
Great video, Cap...👍
I got the F-15C as my first plane but my rig shat a brick trying to maintain a consistent 60FPS. I've got a 1060 3GB and a hyperthreaded quad core
Spherian7 I played the shit out of that Amiga game but never managed to complete the last mission.
WELL DONE !
@@AnvilAirsoftTV You're like a trip through the Time Tunnel. Great ! Thanks, man.
which of the low fidelity planes should I get if I want a good multirole plane?
Su-27 pretty good.
@@grimreapers thx for the input, but I got the su-33 cuz it can do carrier ops
I'm struggling between the harrier and the hornet. I want the harrier because it looks so sexy and to me it's one of the best planes the UK ever had. I also want the hornet because it's the closest plane to the f35. When the Falklands map comes out then the harrier will be better. Only wish the harrier had decent campaigns like the enemy within.
I just downloded DCS and my first purchase was the FA-18. I got it on a special deal, 50% off. Just to suck me in as a new user I guess ! 😀
Im thinking im either going to get f-15 so I can also get that f-22 mod or wait until I can get a f/a-18
Low fidelity is great for beginners I guess but not having clickable cockpits is just ridiculous I think :D so much harder to learn a million keyboard commands than actually learning in the cockpit... really irks me in DCS!
bruh i started with the a-10c 2 and this is like my first flight sim
Cap,when do you think there will be a steam sale for DCS? Will July or August see another sale?
I cant afford the F/A-18C full price, but i could afford it half price just like the April-May sale.
I will guess at Autumn August.
There is a sale announced for June 25th
I am planning a new pc build (ryzen 7, 2060 super, 32 gb ram 3200 mhz) I have alot of time in Falcon bms and am relitively fed up of the f16 so wanted to know if I should get f18, a10, or mirage 2000.
Could I join your group with just 4 4th gen high fidelity jets(F/A-18, AV-8B, Mirage 2000, A-10) or do I also need a 3rd 2nd gen jet, a warbirds and a helicopter?
Should I get the F16C or should I get FC3? I want the High-Fidelity but still I am in budget, so I can't buy both.
TBH either is a good buy.
Does the flaming cliffs 3 pack have any vr aircraft that I can use my vr hands for?
Planning to buy the Heatblur F-14 once I get used to DCS plus the Flaming Cliffs F-15 and MiG-29 and I think it was Heatblur F/A-18. Not sure if its the best tho what do you think?
BTW I've been playing Flight Simulator X since 2010 maybe earlier I forget (mostly airliners) with full procedures and stuff with it and Im a student pilot so I like learning high fidelity kinda stuff
Just found your video today and seems all the planes are now "Steam Incompatiable" and the prices have jumped to $49.99 for the DCS: Flaming Cliffs 3 package
wow $50? Wait for the summer sale.
Good news, they're on sale starting today for about two weeks! :D
@@grimreapers thanks for the heads up
So, WHat plane should I get first in DCS world ?
The coolest looking plane. No plane is bad, it's about how you use it.
I come from a xplane 11 background is it easy to transition xp11 to dcs
Cap & The GR Crew....
Really enjoy the vids that you push out.
Just a few questions if I may
1. What flight controls would you recommend that would cover multiple generations of aircraft and for helicopters.
2. Is it worth going with the VR system or r with the Itrac mode?
You and The Crew keep up the great flying. Look forward to any and all replies
1) any reasonably priced HOTAS is fine for all aircraft.
2) I prefer Track IR as doesn;t require such a good PC to run it.
For the uh 1h Huey can u have other people as the door gunner
Ohh thank god
Let’s say that I’m an average person who doesn’t want to spend money what should I do?
Install mods
Or be stuck with the 2 default planes from my whole life?
Sure go ahead an install mods. Plenty of them out there.
@@grimreapers do know of any good sites for mods? Just getting started and really enjoying it.
I'm new to DCS. Is the A-10A good? I don't want to waste my money but i love A-10's
nice little starter plane
Or just wait for Modern Air Combat that was announced in the summer and was due to release in autumn last year. It's basically FC3 with F-5 MiG-21 Saber MiG-15 and albatross added.
Then you only need to buy a warbird and a helicopter for full DCS experience.
Where is my MAC Eagle Dynamics? You promised!
:P
I suspect they won't be the full DCS modules, if MAC ever gets released. And I didn't see anything about any promises.
Hi I’m new to DCS, what plane should I buy?
How CAP said it depends what experience you already had.
Romanische050 ‘‘twas a joke g coz he’s fed up with people asking
F-5E
where do you find those cheap modules?
How often do they put aircraft on sale?
I subscribed because I was in VF-101. Anyone else?
What computers can DCS world work on? Also, if you fly with a joystick instead of a mouse, what joystick do you recommend?
You are a Jet pilot, i can hear it ^^
where did you find this prices now the a10 costs 60 bucks!!!
Unknown User The A10C is a High Fidelity model while the A10A is a Low Fidelity model
My Problem is that i have to BuycNevada to fly my allready Baught f/A 18 c
I bought a an A10C ..
What’s the difference between the free SU-25 you automatically get and the stand-alone module one you can buy?
Burnt Toast - Great reply, and thanks for info and buying tip.
F/a-18c buy it now!
For me, Nothing left to buy. :)
same lol

Then donate something to this poor fella 😁😀

are all the planes that expensive? thinking of installing DCS World but the prices really hold me back.
They vary from 10-70 dollars
You may try to find Flaming Cliffs 2 game on torrent first, as DCS is pretty much the same game with updated graphics, and if you like it, you can go buy FC3 or High Fidelity aircraft to fly online.

yes

I come from flight simulation with airliners and I lose my shit when I see low fidelity planes. Hey if you like them, that's your thing, but I need physical buttons and controls I can move, period. I am thinking about which high fidelity module to buy, and some people are saying my first module can be 50% off? Can someone verify this and if so, how I should go abouts doing it?

Does FC3 and Dcs world a different game?

an HOTAS ;) Cause i got non.
