    A lot of people LOVE the tomcat for it's pure dogfighting capability. It is completely unmatched... by ANYTHING. No other module in DCS can compare to it's raw kinematic prowess if you take the time to master it... and aren't afraid of breaking a flap or two in the process. I understand that you don't like the shakey shake, but we don't have a HUD that tells us how fast we are going... so when we are in the turn, we use the shakey shake to tell us how we are doing in the turn, whether we are losing speed, gaining it... whether we are going to stall, or if we are going to snap the wing. The shakey shake is unpleasant to sit through, but it is a tool that really helps you "feel" the aircraft... it is as close as we can get to wearing the bird like a jacket.

    I'm with RC, they've nailed the A-10C. It has tons of character, looks the part and is super useful to fly and use once you've got your head around all the systems.
    The F-14 is superb too. It's just so characterful and immersive, so much so I feel mysel bonding with it

    • @carl626
      @carl626 4 роки тому +2

      Same here. The A-10 HOTAS is the most efficient for me. I do agree with cap that it's not super transferable, but it was my first module and hence I have the exact same issue migrating *from* the hog these days. I find myself looking around the cockpit a lot more in other planes than looking outside in the hog. But I guess that is also due to the nature of the arena the other jets operate in. No need to look around as much, unless merged. Then again, I suck at anything but driving hogs. In a Hornet bvr engagement I usually get blown out of the sky in a second facing those pesky eo sensors. Lol. 🤣

      @@carl626 Wow, an A-10 as your first DCS module. That's the proverbial deep end right there, fair play to you.
      I'm the same, I can't dogfight for peanuts, but give me an A-10 with cap above and armour below, and I'm in the zone 👍

    • @TV1Bomber
      @TV1Bomber 4 роки тому +3

      I had A10 first also. Transferable as far as A2A no, but in the sense of understanding SOIs, slew, designating, countermeasures, nav, ground weapons, etc: best module to learn on. The fast jets became easier for me after flying the A10. Only learning curve then becomes the A2A and pit itself. Remember, nothing beats a real life wingman in A2A engagement.

    • @carl626
      @carl626 4 роки тому

      @@TV1Bomber Totally and fully agreed. I must admit though, I spend a lot more hours in the bug these days. The speed and ability to bite back are dazzling. However just setting the hog in a nice circle and calmly mark up everything I need to fry will always be something I will miss in the bug. And 3 mavs on a station...its a thing.. 😁

    People have to remember that this is about the sounds visuals and not what is your favourite aircraft. I love the F16 but like you said stuff just isn’t working right now especially when you have flown a lot of Falcon 4.0 (BMS) where basically everything works. When things like the HARM targeting pod, jammer pods iff codes and all that good stuff comes out it would probably be rated higher. (Might have to do a re-review on some of these modules. If the score goes higher ED can see that they are making improvements) I have never flown the viggan but I can see that it is a well made module. The tomcat you can see why it comes first. It brought something new to the table with the RIO. There is just so much interactivity with it. The buffering feels so good you just know what the aircraft is doing or what it’s about to do. It’s less buggy, it’s immersive and heatburr did a really great job on it and should be very proud of what they accomplished with the F14.
    Pretty interesting to look at looking forward to giving the viggan a try during the free event and may earn itself another pilot.

    If I remember correctly from the interview. he said under high G's the F-14 will shake and rattle, but in cruise she is smooth. I noticed Cap likes to jerk that stick in the F-14 LOL. For modern aircraft it would have to be Hornet for best all-rounder, armament, relevance and value +Super Carrier.

    I love the F-14 and I enjoy flying online in training servers- with that being said, I do feel like I'm missing out on a large portion of the sim by only being limited to dumb bombs and A/A flights. I've since chosen to either fly the 14 when I want to do A/A, or the AV8/18 for anything else. This way, I get to learn how to be self supportive in other combat roles.
    As much as I love the 14- there are just things that it just can't do (especially with Jester) and that's ok. Whenever I feel the need for speed, Jester and the 14 will always be there for me. At least we have the option to choose aircraft that are just as well built and detailed to fly.

    The F-14 Tomcat when you are pushing the limits of its maneuverability is a very shaky according to Tomcat pilots.
    UH-1H was lighty armored but had self sealing Fuel Tanks in the Floor and behing the cabin and its Single Engine. Huey pilots quite often were wounded in flight to battles according to what I am finding. I only own the full version of the P-47 and the F-18C, FC3, and Combined Arms. So far.

Guess what, it’s my favorite module. Mainly because of its simplicity and agility. I’m currently working on a campaign about the F5E in a war between Brazil and other countries against a communist alliance in South America, I think it’s looking good until now. My campaign doesn’t have particularly realistic missions but I can assure something: it’ll be fun!

      The guy above me does have a good point. I would personally not buy FC3 or the F5. The FC3 aircraft are too easy with unclickable cockpits which will unable you to learn anything. The F5 will not help you learn any modern aircraft and it’s very bare bones and frustrating in multiplayer. It’s not good for the price either. Just jump in an F-18 or F-16 and learn all of the modern systems it has. Once you fully learn it you can do so much with it. I was one of the guys who bought the F5 as a starter aircraft. It was fun for a little bit, but there’s not a lot you can do with it besides the most basic things.

    I'm not surprised the Tomcat came out top based on the questions asked. However, I personally own the Tomcat but very rarely fly it. It really needs a human RIO to shine, IMO Jester just doesn't cut the mustard. However, getting a human RIO is not easy for most people most of the time, and Tomcat with Jester I've found a very frustrating experience. My squadron has also found the Tomcat to be hugely problematic from a MP standpoint. The logistics of requiring two people is challenging, and we *never* have enough people wanting to be RIO. Then there's the balance issues: if you give the Tomcat the AIM-54 it's far too overpowered .. and yet without it's unable to compete against AIM-120 carrying planes. For these reasons our squadron rarely flies it, it's just too much of a headache to fit in to a scenario. So yes, it's a beautifully made module, the interiors and exteriors are absolutely top notch, the systems are really well modelled .. and mostly it sits in my hangar looking pretty, almost never being flown.

The data is correctly reflecting the questions you did ask therefore is justifiable on those measures that the Tomcat in no 1. Perhaps you should add "ability to learn all aspects of military aviation?" question to the survey.

    Where is the I-16? I think it has one of the most interesting flight models and is very challenging to fly.
    Right after take off you can do a roll. You can use side slipping to reduce altitude. Or you can use crabbing and all of that feels more real than in other modules.
    Though some design philosophies (of the real thing) are questionable: German aircraft of that era used one lever to operate complex engines, I-16 needs already four levers to just operate the landing gear.

  • @jycannel4626

    I would personally have to disagree with the statement "you dont really learn aviation properly" in regards to the f14. I say this due to the fact that if you learn how to fly with a green button bogochev wagganator, the fcs nearly does everything for you. If you learn on a plane without FCS (which is arguably harder) then go to a plane with fcs, there is alot of transferable skill as you have learned how to fly manually, where as if you learned how to fly with fcs and then go to a manual, you are in for a shock as alot of your bad habits (which the fcs removes for you) are laid right in front of you to see. This is just my opinion though

    Very interesting video.
    I think CEII interactivity rating is too high. Yes, it is close to the real thing but the real thing has not that many buttons.
    E.g. if there would be ever a vintage glider module in DCS it might have only stick and rudder and hook release. Not much interactivity, but could easily score a 5 if all is simulated.
    That being said, a proper glider module would be great (provided the wind simulation would allow for some hang gliding and there would be some thermals).
    But your verbal comments kind of relativized the score. Again, great video!

    I’m surprised the F-14 is top rated. While I like it I’m having a heck of a time with Jester IFFing, Calling bandits friendly and making me second guess, and frankly even just getting him to lock a hostile right in front of the aircraft. I’m sure that’s more toward me needing to control his radar operations better. Overall it’s probably the most difficult aircraft I’ve had to learn, specifically dealing with Jester.
    In any case I’d have to rate the F/A-18C as the top. Just overall it can do every missions, it’s easy to learn, easy to fly and easy to land. It basically flies itself, which may be a downside for some people.
    Easily a close second is the F-16C which is catching up. Most definitely my favorite module out of the ones I own.
    I still think the A-10C/A-10C II are the best in terms a first purchase module. You really learn most all aspects of flying with it. It carries loads of ordinance and of course the GAU. The only downside is that it’s not a fighter so you won’t be doing much dogfighting outside of other ground attack aircraft, defensive fighting in a pinch, and if you run across an enemy helo.

    • @southernbear736
      @southernbear736 4 роки тому

      Jester won't lock a target in STT/P-STT using the "Lock Enemy target ahead" function of his menu unless he has IFFed it himself even despite a positive Data link ID from the AWACs. I recommend "Lock target ahead" or "choose specific target" for a better result (most useful when trying to STT/P-STT for AIM-7 Sparrow shots) And use "PAL" or "Target designated Fwd" to lock up targets within 10nmi for either FOX1, AIM-7 shots or to slave the AIM-9 seeker for more reliable FOX2 kills . But in terms of the F-14's main function, that being lobbing AIM-54s at things, its very easy to do and is basiclly done for you, I recommend using the AIM-54 Mk.60 with the longer range rocket motor. Calling bandits friendly and making you second guess is actually part of his programming to not only make him feel more human but also so not to make him so good and too reliable to make it where theres no point having a Human RIO.

    Yes, the flight manual Documentation should be added to the list if you are talking modules, and probably scored 1-10 as it can effect things the most. Also the next one should be covering the Best 5 and the worse 5 in the video. The best is self explanatory and just show the scores. Also any sample size under 12 should not be included as the data is effected by personal views. Why the worse 5? because they could be the module or how it is viewed, the lack of features to play with or does it not work constantly broken, no support etc. Also include a X-factor of how fun it is to use it is not part of the evaluation but could be a reason to get the module, other then Iconic airframe. A more fair thing to evaluate on its own would be completeness how much works compared to the actual aircraft.

      With respect - disagree. I think some were expressing surprise at the results rather than "knocking" as you call it. I was surprised as well. Most of us don't have/cant afford all the modules, therefore can't really comment as our flight samples are too small. I respect these guys experience over all the flight models and until you get to that level, it's impossible to participate. I found it very interesting and enlightening. May point the way forward to future purchases - and that's a good thing on it's own. For me - I agree with CAP from my limited a/c - Hornet every time.
