I share a lot of the same feelings of the “together apart” segment you all discussed! I’ve been doing my best to put words to the feelings and experiences I’m seeking since late 2021.. so hearing y’all talk about it has given me some great context, language, and perspective. I would especially recommend it for those in long term relationships who aspire to marry but aren’t at the moment. My granny always said why would a man buy milk if he already has the whole cow. And another gem I resonate with is a woman should experience living by herself at least once in life. I, too, came from my family’s home and straight into living with a man.. definitely caused a lot of strife as I was only 21 still coming into my own. Those gender roles are so deeply embedded in patriarchy you sometimes don’t even realize it until you’re buried in resentment and longing. I know this is a lot to read, but I had to share my take.

My mom says this all the time with married couples, it’s whatever they agree on. Sheryl Lee Ralph’s husband is working in the political arena in Philly I think and she lives in L.A. Apparently they’ve been living bi-coastal for the majority of their marriage. If they like the relationship they have living separately, I love it😂

That's because beyonce fans don't really do rap like that. I love rap and r&b, so I enjoy a good rap and r&b show. Like Mary j blidge and nas shows. Actually, those type of songs r&b singers with a rapper on their track is my favorite kind of music

My paternal grandparents were married but lived separately most of my life. They were from Trinidad and so my grandma moved to America first to find a job before the rest of the family (my dad and his brothers) could come over. When they did all finally move, my grandparents had separate apartments in different NY boroughs. They eventually bought a retirement home in Florida. My grandmother retired first and moved to Florida while my grandfather still lived in NY. They spent every major holiday together as a family. They did not live together until the end of their lives and that’s only because my uncle had to take care of them both as they were aging and sick.
