I love when people seem to actually enjoy what they do. It’s refreshing because hearing people constantly express the negatives of their job is emotionally draining.
Nobody enjoys what they do. They do it because it pays money. People rationalize enjoyment into the equation because no one wants to wake up doing something they hate. So they convince themselves they enjoy it. But I promise if you found this guy on his weekend off, he's not going around doing electrician stuff... that's not what he enjoys.
Great to see the younger generations understand the value of unions, and that they aren’t being suckered like the last two generations by the GOP into parting ways with an institution that helped support the most prosperous generations in American history.
Not surprised. You dont HAVE to go to college to make good money. I respect people who work in trade because they have a skillset that’s quite rare, hence their higher pay.
Furthermore, he lied about making a company, “that’s easier,” not a chance in hell he has a license, you need an electrician on board that has one ……😑😑😑 kinda feel like this guy is lying about everything

I went to a community college, it was about a 6 month course and we also got our OSHA 30 as well. I got a job as an apprentice electrician, (not a apprenticeship program). And they started me out at $17 an hour, after 90 days I get a raise and after 6 months as well and they told me there is more to come. Im not in a Union but I think I’m starting out alright🤷🏽♂️
Ive learned a lot and continuing to learn a lot. You learn everything once on the job. One thing I recommend is to continue learning about the trade on your own. Learn code, schematics, reading blueprints, and really learn that multimeter! The faster you’ll progress.
Yeah, bro straight dodged the salary question. What he didn't tell you is that apprenticeship programs haven't adjusted to cost of living or inflation in over 20 years. So he's probably making 12-14$/hr now.
That's not true at all. When I was an apprentice I had a % of income off of the journeyman's wages. That's how it works. When he gets a 3.75% wage increase a year, so do I. Apprentices are also union workers too and are represented by the union. Companies WANT good apprentices and want to treat them good. It's the future of the company. They can't get the benefits they planned on retiring with if the company goes under because they can't get apprentices to become journeyman. I was an apprentice lineman and I made over 160K my first year. With 100% match to my 401K, awesome full health, vision and dental. 4 weeks paid vacation a year. 2 weeks paid sick leave a year. And 2 weeks paid emergency leave a year. Now I'm a journeyman making over 400K a year. It's a pretty damn good gig to get into. Lineman or electrician.
@@tkoz7856 that’s lineman, I also bet your constantly traveling and doing 18hr days for storm work, and in my area regular electricians top out at 30hr which ain’t worth destroying your body and the hours aren’t worth not being able to be with your family or have time to spend the money you make
@@BetterThanYesterday69 ehhhh I'm at storm or fires 3-5 times a year. Don't travel much. And I work just 10 hour days normally. We usually don't work more than 16 hour days for storm either way.
He’s lying.. starting out with ZERO experience is like $15 an hour depending on what state you work in. And after that you’ll need to get a journeyman license after 8000 hours of work under a master license which take about 4 years and after that you’ll be looking at jobs that pay anywhere from $30-40 depending on where you work at and what state you work in.
Must be nice to hit that ibw lottery. If I had to guess he's someone's son/brother. For every joker who said 'I just walked in and got an apprenticeship' there's thousands that are turned away.
Depends how competitive your IBEW is. In my IBEW in the midwest region, it wasn't competitive at all. When I took my test there were 3 other people with me. When I interviewed last week there were 5 other people. I asked the interview panel how many people they were taking. They said they were expecting a lot of work coming up, so they were trying to hire as many apprentices as they could.

Im an electrician in Utah, typically you can start working as an apprentice at any company that’s looking for help. They can get you all the information to start going to school and getting your license. Or you could find a local trade school and get information there! The trade school I am going to has a program for high schoolers as well.
In the state you live go to the workforce program they will pay for it or go to your local community College You can talk to someone about the program the guy is talking about in this video
check your local IBEW website and if you take some electrical engineering courses at community college it helps your chances a lot. You don't need a ton, like 2 because it shows you're serious.
If you have a tool belt, impact drill, hammer, beater screwdriver, strippers, and safety toe boots, just go to an electrical company in your town and say you want to be an electrician, and you’re willing to start off as a laborer for a couple weeks.
Go join a union. Better pay, get treated better, able to file grievances with the hall if disrespected, safety, laid is common, but the hall WILL find you a job. No more job hunting, sending out resumes, interviewing.
