What people don’t realize is there is a market for handhelds… as long as those games are created for that in mind. I imagine people want interactive games that they can pick up and play and stop in a quick moment. Many of Sony’s titles are not that. With that said, Sony has been struggling to even get games out for their current platform that haven’t been remasters or remakes.
I dont care if it fails im buying one, the vita is one of my alltime favorite emulation machines and i will continue to do so on this badboy eventually
I think if it has the ability to actually play some of your digital library and you are be able to swap out the fridge so to speak with things like PS4 or PS five games? There could be some competition for it, but the problem is if it’s anything like their VR or what they did with Vita in those last days. :( We need exclusives as you mention
I so miss the PlayStation handheld systems. Loved my PSP and vita both equally to death. I so would love to see PlayStation come into the handheld market again soon in the upcoming future and see how they do again. I wouldn't mind hoping on board with buying a device yet again if it is true since I mainly play handheld mostly now with my SteamDeck these days having very little time to game on my gaming laptop these days due to school/improv/health life as such. Curious on how they will tackle the handheld market again this third time around. I also wouldn't mind seeing exclusive ps5 portable games come out for it as well.
If it comes out, and is backwards compatible with PS4 games, I'll buy one, at that point it wouldn't affect me if it's successful or not. Playing the more niche PS4 exclusives (that will never ever ever get a PC port (Dreams, Gravity Rush 1+2, tearaway, etc)) on the go sounds great. If it doesn't play PS4 games I'm not interested. Not to ramble too much but yeah, Sony really left fans with my kind of taste behind, one of the reasons I moved on to PC.
A new PSP like system sounds really awesome in a vaccuum but i genuinly dont know what it could do differently to pull a broad audience. Nintendo has the casual audience and the Steamdeck is arguably the biggest bargain in gaming that can also play playstation games. If the answer is to make smaller scale games like the PSP then I think thats just setting the system up for failure. All that said a PSP revival sounds cool but I have my doubts that it could be anything more than a novelty like the Vita
These rumors make complete sense to me. No wonder PS5 has no games - they were getting ready for when it goes portable. Sony never does games for their portable systems. I'm a disgruntled Vita owner, and I even made the stupid decision back in the day to buy a PSP go. PSP had games but PSP go didn't because Sony didn't get them all on the PlayStation Store for go owners. A less salty half-joke take: Between no disc drive on the PS5 Pro ($80 extra to add one) and now a potential PS5 Portable, Sony really really wants to say "F*** YOU, REBUY YOUR GAMES" to people like me who bought PS4 and PS5 games on disc. I'm fully expecting PS6 to be digital only.
Ooooh, I wonder what overpriced proprietary storage format Sony is going to come up with for the PS5 Portable. Can't be a PlayStation Handheld without some weird storage format!
Hmm, i think the main issue here is the steam deck, not Nintendo. If consumers want a simple portable they just go with Nintendo the reigning champ, but for everyone else that wants a more "advanced" machine they just go with the Deck or a deck-like derivative. I loved the psp and the vita but i just dont see a market for a new Playstation portable. Sony are to stubborn to make a open platform like deck and just does not have the library to compete with Nintendo in the closed system market. Id love to see it but i highly doubt they would risk it given they are about to finish off xbox as a real direct competitor, and they know Nintendo is not a direct competitor and hasnt been since really the gamecube days. The are secure as the "king of the hill" right now. Oh, and im a pc guy all the way. The last console i owned was a ps3, so i dont even have a dog in this fight. Lol
That PS5 handheld is probably at least 4 years away if PlayStation fans are lucky, that's a pretty big head start for the Nintendo Switch 2. and Microsoft will probably release their handheld around the same time as that Sony handheld. and the Steam deck and the rog ally are probably going to sell a lot in those 4 years too, and maybe they'll both get a New stronger model. It's one thing to have tough competition, but Nintendo has a 4 year head start maybe even more, and has the Switch 1 library as extra games, Microsoft is making exactly the same thing, for people who have a Steam deck or rog ally or any other PC handheld this console is useless. I'm pretty sure Sony will eventually give up on this thing just like with the PS vita
Yeah I’m ok if the ps5 portable flops, the Vita was the GOAT in the homebrew/JRPG fan base, I’ve still got my vita, just found it yesterday, might charge it up and go back to some old classics Plus the vita when modded can play PSP, GBA, SNES, and a whole bucket load of games and systems. Plus you can get one for a decent price on EBay or FB marketplace. Sony should just stick to consoles same as well with Microsoft
Just imagine it end up being another streaming device

That's why the vita failed.
Just release a handheld with the power of the PS4 with its own game library a 5"oled screen and 512GB storage for $299 it will sell like hot cakes 🎂
Almost as if we already knew how to sell a console decades ago.
Dont forget some exclusives as they are getting extinct also. Gives insentive to buy that specified console.
If a PS handheld wants to success, it must play the same games as PS5. A handheld with a different game library will be destined to fail.

I guess the XBox Handheld is much closer that a PS handheld. The currect corps of PC handheld with Gamepass are already a half-way XBox Handheld.

The psp will always be the best and their best handheld
I mean, if you call a pirate station portable.. of course!
I still remember playing “ official” Mother 3 translation on that thing xD
You don't think it'd be sad if that were true and you never got anything better?!
@BluntyTV I hope they do better with the new handheld if they make one but idk sony has been doing bad but also not as good as they use to
No, the vita was the best.
@@Planag7i prefer the Vita, but I liked the noises that the UMD that the psp made
