Hi Alexander, Great video thanks for posting it. I made a couple of the tool bags in military grade heavy duty canvas manufactured here in Australia. The tool bags turned out 10 inches wide by 16 inches long. The height was 12 inches reducing to 10.5 after I added the bolt rope at the top. I shortened the outside strap by 3 inches to allow for the bolt rope. Using a 5/8 inch seam allowance the tops of the pockets on the end lined up with the the pocket tops on the side. The end pockets in the video banner image are lower than the side pockets, I guess this was a prototype version of the bag. I was pretty much forced to sew the bottom corners using a triple feed 2 inch cylinder arm machine to achieve good tight seams on the bottom corners of the bag. The rest of the bag was done easily on a flatbed triple feed machine, like your Juki 1508. Not sure how one would go making this bag on a plain drop feed machine with thick canvas. I agree that everyone should have a Juki 1508 triple feed. Thanks Again Myles
That is a very informative comment. I gave it a thumbs up. Your project sounds great, you have made a great tool bag and who knows, you may have it for the rest of your life. Those bottom corners are definitely tricky. Again, I really appreciate you taking the time. Oh and prototype, yes, most of the things I make are. \HaHa/
Thanks for this video. Just finished making one, though I only used ~10 oz cotton duck and a non-industrial machine (Pfaff 130). Still turned out great, the rope in the hem makes a big difference.
That is great, I love hearing that! I have made bags with 10 oz canvas too, it works great for that and lasts too. My backdrop is made from 10 oz canvas, its good. Glad you like the rope, it definitely steps it up a notch. Thanks
I'd love to make a bag like this but with the pockets inside and with some sort of closure for security reasons. Thanks for showing me how it could be done
The Juki 1508 is a great machine. I also have a 1541 which look very similar. I am planning on doing a video soon about the differences between the two. Stay tuned and thanks for your comments.
cool bag and I loved your video. No annoying music or talking just practical demo :) I've been sewing for a living for 45 yrs and I learnt several new ways of doing things.
I just finished this bag. I used 2 or so yards of 36” wide duck with some left over. I added inside pockets using the method in the video with the larger bag with leather handles. It went together fairly easy. I did make one modification to both end panel pockets(at least from what I saw in the video) by moving the pockets panel up higher with just enough of the bottom seam allowance to be sewn under the end sacrifice panel . I did slightly off set the tops of the end pockets with side pockets. You end up with quite a few layers to go through during the final assembly! Regarding the cut list provided: I would cut the inside straps an extra 6 inches longer or so to be sure the doubled up section of the handles can be sewn to the bag. I ended up having shorten the outside handles a bit from the ends to get them to attach properly. It carries well enough with the handles a few inches shorter. Awesome project. Great videos.
really nice craftsmanship! I started doing leather work this year, but it is very expensive. Looking into canvas with leather like a Klein bag. You just broadened my horizon with this. Awesome work!
I especially adore and appreciate the crap out of this video! Thank you so very much! And this machine you using is officially my dream machine. The juki you did all the sewing on. Im in awe.
You have great instructions, i slowed it down and was able to get the instructions and sewed together 5 of those canvas tool bags, they are easy once you do the first one but you need a industrial sewing machine to sew it together, thanks for the nice video and it was a great project.
I absolutely love how you just chuck your cut pieces right next to your machine, like you're saying there all done no sweat peanuts 😂. I'm seriously thinking about investing in a Juki myself.
Sure, I have made bags with thinner, lighter material and they are great too. I would think any duck canvas would good for a bag. Heck, just go for it.
Beautifully made! I'm just about to upgrade to a bigger machine, a Juki 1510N-7. Also looking to get an overlock machine to simplify/speed up hidden seams. Any recommendations on particular options/capabilities to look out for with an overlock machine? I'm usually sewing cordura, sometimes with padding or thin foam.
Thanks. Juki is a good way to go. I love my 1508. This overlock is built for heavy material like denim and canvas. A lucky find on my part. I does shirting well too but I don't know about padding.
Good gosh, Alex, your machine, being that it's an industrial piece of machinery is phenomenal. For it to be able to get over the bulky areas as it does is awesome! I have a Husqvarna Viking and, although I've tried getting over some bulk areas when I sew, if I don't go slow, which I would normally do, sometimes the motor can't even handle it and it causes my needle to break. Nevertheless, this was a great showing of how you put this bag together and I loved especially the pockets technique. I'm going to try my hand at incorporating that particular feature into a tote bag made with 100% cotton. Thank you so much for sharing.
Yes the machine is cool. These industrial machine allow me to sew things in unorthodox ways. I enjoy that I can dream up something and then be able to do it, it's fun.
For now I put some more explanation in the description. I have had a few questions on the handles so I wanted to put it where more people can see it. I have also included time cuts so that you can see me doing what I am explaining. I will have another bag video coming soon and I will be making the same kind of handles in that video so hopefully I will answer your question. Thanks.
It's such a good design. The dimensions are perfectly practical for a tool bag. Bigger than a lineman's bag, but smaller than a regular tool bag (or so it seems)... I keep watching this video. Where is your shop located in US? M
Hi I think I will be able to follow your super fast video, some how, the only thing I think I'm going to struggle with is the handles, yes I have clicked on your link but it's not doing anything, i need the measurements for the ironed bit, is that half inch or quarter please
Either would work. I think I did half. I checked the links and they work from my end. Sorry to hear you are having trouble. There have been several of these made by different folks so I know you can do it. Have Fun.
Alexander Dyer how strange just tryed the link on my phone, and hey presto it works, so if anyone else has the same problem, then maybe they can try off there phone, thanks
Can I do this on an old Kenmore with a 1.2 Amp motor; maybe with a walking foot? I'm going to watch this several times to get the cut list then the order of construction. I need something super duty to carry my commercial diver's helmet and hoses, gauges, tools and spare parts. I want a ridged bottom with partial rigid sides to protect the helmet window. ... and; the option to carry it back pack style or tote I'll be threading a stainless steel cable through the top for anti theft measures. It's the little stuff that gets stolen and a big hard case won't get it when in cramped areas. This will be getting wet from time to time so it needs to resist environmental weather elements. The ability to keep a shape is very important however; I want to be able to remove the sides and bottom but it still needs to be kept with the bag. The bag should also clear the floor or deck by 3/4" to 1" with feet of some design.
Wow, you have got an eye for watches, Nice! Oh and comparing my video to a Jimmy Diresta is probably the most generous compliment you could give me, not that I deserve it. 😌 Thank you.
Hey Mr D .. What weight canvas are you using? What Kind of machine .. serger .. coverstich .. etc .. did you use to overstitch thet edge. It really helped to reduce thickness on the seams.
I almost finished a bag like this today. Just have to prowl out in my garage and see if I have any rope. I had a painting drop cloth that I cut up for this. Thanks for posting this a couple of years ago.
The Brother had smaller thread in it and at the time I thought it would be faster. In the end, a second machine is not necessary; The Juki 1508 is the real work horse here and would be capable of the entire job. Hope that answers your excellent question.
Alexander Dyer ooh you are so very kind to spend time to answer me!! Thank you very much sir. I am still a new learner of sewing i appreciate your kindness of sharing sewing knowledge here. 👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Alexander, love your video and your bag, I'm making bags and learning a lot. I bought a Juki LU1508N and I've had it a couple of months, I hope I made the right choice, I had the option to get a 1531 as well and it was so hard for me to decide between the two. The dealership said the only difference between the two was the 1508 had a little bit bigger bobbin and would sew heavier leather other than that they were basically the same. I bought my 1508 mainly for working with leather to make holsters, heavy weight belts occasionally and mainly bag making. I do have a question I hope you can help me with. When working with vegetable tanned cowhide, my presser foot is leaving marks on my leather and I have backed the pressure off the foot way back but still having the same problems even with chrome tanned leather. Can you give me any advice on how to fix this problem or do I need to change the type of leather I'm using. The point of buying this machine was so I didn't have to hand stitch anymore because I'm getting carpal tunnel in my right hand. Also, I notice you mention using a narrow foot, if you don't mind me asking, where can I find different feet and other accessories for my 1508 that will fit my walking foot machine and what kind of thread do you like best? Thanks for any help and advice you can give me. Tammy
Perhaps your foot has aggressive teeth? You might want a smoother set. Actually the bigger the feet the more they will distribute the pressure and that may also help. The more narrow foot might leave smaller marks though. I got my foot set at nick-o-sew. The Juki feet are the same as the Singer 111 and 211 so they are easy to get. Any major parts dealer can get you set up. Bonded Nylon or Polyester for heavy projects, I like polyester, it is a little more expensive but it will stand up to the sun. Buy good thread and you will never regret it, cheap thread will leave you cussing.
Thanks for getting back with me so fast. Sorry about the typo in my previous message, I meant 1541 not 1531. Can I ask you what kind of feet you use with your bag making, I know a lot of ladies talk about a skinny foot, have no idea what they are talking about but they seem to like it but they also have a Juki 8700 and that wouldn't work for the 1508. I have the standard foot with the guard that came with the machine and I also ordered the right & left zipper foot and 5/32",1/4" cording/welting feet. I know when I backed the pressure way off the foot, the stitches started looking bad so I stopped. Should I have tried to tighten the tension when this happened? I'm scared to mess with the tension, the dealer that I got my machine from said they had it all set up for me to sew everything I told them about and I wouldn't have to mess with the tension but, I guess if I'm going to be sewing I need to get over that issue. I have call the dealer about my problem but their not getting back with me like I hoped they would so, that's why I'm trying to figure this out on my own. I have a knee lifter for my presser foot and that is so hard to use it seems really stiff, maybe it's because it's a new machine and needs time to loosen up a bit. Thanks again for your help and advice, I really appreciate it. Tammy
I like both the narrow and regular width feet. I don't like cheap parts though so I would advise to go for quality. Everybody is different so you gotta figure it out as to what you like best. If your foot pressure isn't strong enough the work will lift while the stitch is being made and that could explain the poor stitches you began to experience. You can adjust the placement of the knee lifter to fit your leg and that can make a big difference. This stuff takes work, practice and perseverance to develop the skills that it takes to get the most out of these machines. That is where the rubber meets the road.
Such a great video and I hope I can follow after multiple times of learning and scrutinising (hope I use correct word). Thank you so much and hope to learn more. I am from Malaysia.
I want to ask how much a fat square (not solid) cost? Actually I am 62 yrs a pensioner and like quilting always learning from yr tutorials. ridzwan latiff is my son and I use his account. Last night I just finished my "Crossing Path" quilt and I' m so excited to sew more. Thank you for yr reply.
Oh sure, I do custom work, but nobody has been willing to pay my high fees. ;) email me if you want. Just click the "About" tab on my channel for my address. Thanks a million.
Hi nice job, i see you went straight for the serger to tame that canvas, sure does get unruly quickly doesn't it. Surprised your serger table is just short of meeting up with the outfield table to be flush. I hear ya about people not wanting to pay the price. SEWING takes FOREVER and an 8oz spool of goretex is damn near $120 ! People don't realize that its not just thread. Let alone some material can be $20-30/yard. I make custom LED lights to specifically fit under the harp. Id be happy to send one along. I have one on my Juki 5550 and another on the Tacsew.
I used the overlock on the quilted pieces of my back pack. You can see that overlock machine sits @ 6" above the table. I have found it to be very handy to use. It can be seen in my backpack video if your interested.
toobglued i tried looking at your bio to see where I can go to buy those LD’s.. but had no luck .. do u have a internet ship somewhere??!! Etsy? Insta? Help! LOL
Juki 1508. I would think that the 1541 would be capable of this project as well. I also have very narrow presser feet that I find helpful for those tricky areas.
Damn it! Just as I was engrossed in this video, my wife came through the door unexpectedly. I had to insist that I had been trying to find a video of naked women, and that I had not actually searched for a sewing video. She thought it was hilarious. (Hope the joke doesn't offend anyone - that's what I really said to her). Thanks for a great video. I have recently been searching local tool shops for strong canvas tool bags. Have only found innovative but cheaply made alternatives so far. But if I leaned how to fix my wife's sewing machine...
Well...I've watched this video a couple of times and every time I try - in my head to make it more feminine but it's never the same as this one Alex makes. Awesome tote.
Hi, thank you for the video. I am trying to make a garden tool tote for a friend as a gift. On the cutting instruction, there are : Main Sacrifice Panel (1) End Sacrifice Panel (2) and the Inside Strap - Where do they go on the bag construction? Thanks so much.
I appreciate you not talking thank you very much. I just need to watch this video 100 more times and then I can do it. Whats the soup that was made to go with the fried polenta 😋
Loved this video!!! Wife wants an industrial machine, now I think there is a reason to get it for her.......keep up the great work.
My favorite sewing video on UA-cam. Excellent.
My favorite comment. Thank you.
I really enjoy your tutorials. Also all the sewing machines you have. Looking forward to your next project. Have a good week

I'm glad you showed how to work those rivets!! Great bag!!
AMAZING. What skills. I love that there are still folks that have these amazing craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing.
Agame el favor si esa es sizag
The Juki 1508...the favorite in my arsenal of machines...I have 2 1508s one for a back-up....nice bag...
The Juki 1508 is a great machine. I also have a 1541 which look very similar. I am planning on doing a video soon about the differences between the two. Stay tuned and thanks for your comments.
This was so cool to watch! I also love your overlock machine
Excellent project. love the clean design and the straightforward demonstration ... kudos!!
I appreciate that Dominic Del Principe.
haha you make it look so easy. plain material + no fuss design + WORKMANSHIP = stunning piece!
Thanks Dani, I should have a new bag video out soon.
Great, I'll look forward to it!
This is mesmerizing to watch. I want to sew like you do!! Until I do, I at least can use some of your techniques in my own work. Wow!!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, THIS BAG
THANK, THANK, THANK, YOU
Amazing job, beautiful craftsmanship :)
Thank you for the nice words :)
cool bag and I loved your video. No annoying music or talking just practical demo :) I've been sewing for a living for 45 yrs and I learnt several new ways of doing things.
Thanks. New ways of doing things huh? That is what happens when a carpenter gets a sewing machine. Ha Ha 😋 But seriously I appreciate your comments.

I am absolutely floored and speechless. This is BEAUTIFULLY made!!! The craftsmanship is impeccable!!!
Thank you, you are too kind.
really nice craftsmanship! I started doing leather work this year, but it is very expensive. Looking into canvas with leather like a Klein bag. You just broadened my horizon with this.

What a nice thing to say. I like the Klein bucket bags too.
I especially adore and appreciate the crap out of this video! Thank you so very much! And this machine you using is officially my dream machine. The juki you did all the sewing on. Im in awe.
This is definitely a work horse of a machine. Machines come and go in my shop but this one stays, I love it.
wow!!!!! what a great bag! I need a bag like that for my final year in uni for a sewing equipment!!!! thanks xx
sweet!!! I would love to see it.
Alexander Dyer I will let you know if I make one!

I have never seen anyone sew like you. You have many unique techniques. Very good bags and videos. 👍
That is probably because I am self taught. Taught with the help of UA-cam. It is a great time to be alive.
I absolutely love how you just chuck your cut pieces right next to your machine, like you're saying there all done no sweat peanuts 😂. I'm seriously thinking about investing in a Juki myself.
Wow, lots of work!
Great job. Love the bag.

I made this for myself and my friends.... Everybody loves them. Thank you!
Love the old serger used in the video.
thank you . I love your work .
I want to make one for my dad! He definitely need this kind of tool bag! Great video Sir Alexander! Very useful tutorial! Thumbs up!!
Thanks! 😀
When I get my juki I’m gonna try this bag. I love it! I think I’ll make it for all of my mums knitting tools and wool.
Excellent, please share.
Awesome stuff man, love the bag also love your minimalist logo. Subbed :)
Thanks for all the kindness.
Wow!!! I really enjoyed watching this video! You did a great job!
Your sewinmachine Is wonderfull, and this bag is fabolous, great job men...
I like this sewing machine too. Thank you.
thanks for your kindness and generousity in sharing the how to to make the bag. also a very entertaining bag making effort.
Your Welcome, Thank You.
This is an amazing work man.
Great Sir. I have also started learning how to make bags. Searching for a good industrial sewing machine. Let's see and all the best for your work
Did you see this one? ua-cam.com/video/sBavkfataiM/v-deo.html
Very nice craftsmanship and filming & editing skills, as well!
Thank you for the nice comment.

You did those rounded corner seams so effortlessly/flawlessly haha :D
my goodness.... you are such a wonderful artist sir!!! great creation. thank you.
Just a man with his sewing machines. Humbly... Thank you.
Can you please say model of your juki machine because i am so intrested with your sewing machine and your bag
1508, Thanks
Wow Your bags are nice. Your Awesome Alex! Your one of my mentors now!😉😀 Thank You Soooo Much 🤗
I am glad you found me and I really appreciate all your wonderful comments and support.
Thank you for sharing this video it’s very nice and easy to make. The speedy fast fwd version is super.

I like the rope used for piping to strengthen the top ridge of your sack. I’ll have to do that next time.
It really adds a lot of constitution to the bag. Makes it stand open nicely.

Jimmy Diresta with a sewing machine and a Seiko Shogun. Great video, loved it.
Wow, you have got an eye for watches, Nice! Oh and comparing my video to a Jimmy Diresta is probably the most generous compliment you could give me, not that I deserve it. 😌 Thank you.
Love the video, insane talent. The bag looks great and just keep it up.
Thank you very much, I will.
beautiful camera angles! Very nice!
How nice of you to notice, Thank you.
Wow! Wonderful to see it done
🙌
Love it. I almost felt hypnotized
Thank you.
Really nice!
Very nice Video, I learned something........
What type of sewing machine are you using?
That is the Juki 1508. Everybody should have one. ;)
Hello
I look up you uki 1508. If you were to replace or update you industrial sewing machine what make and model would you buy?
Depends on what you want to sew, besides, 1 is never enough, I have a dozen or so.
THAT SURELY AINT NO HARBOR FREIGHT......Nice work.
Ok, who are you, do you sell the bags, tell me about the machine and where can I get one
Hey Mr D .. What weight canvas are you using? What Kind of machine .. serger .. coverstich .. etc .. did you use to overstitch thet edge. It really helped to reduce thickness on the seams.
It is 15 Oz. Here is a video of an overlock just like the one I used. ua-cam.com/video/2jgapDmEutI/v-deo.html
Awsome, wow--- now that's a bag
Very Nice!!!!
I almost finished a bag like this today. Just have to prowl out in my garage and see if I have any rope. I had a painting drop cloth that I cut up for this. Thanks for posting this a couple of years ago.
Bravo
Do you sell these bags? They would be wonderful for craft room organization of sorts.
It looks so easy on the video. Amazing work. I would like to know why you use 2 different machines (brother and juki)? is it different functions?
The Brother had smaller thread in it and at the time I thought it would be faster. In the end, a second machine is not necessary; The Juki 1508 is the real work horse here and would be capable of the entire job. Hope that answers your excellent question.

Also watch the video linked at the end, I think it will help. Good luck.
Alexander by chance do you do custom work for people?? if so I would like to get in touch with you about that. Great work...
Oh sure, I do custom work, but nobody has been willing to pay my high fees. ;) email me if you want. Just click the "About" tab on my channel for my address. Thanks a million.
what is the denier and material of this canvas?
15 ounce cotton
Cool bag! Interested in getting a Juki 1508 or a 1541 myself. Can I ask why you switched to the Brother midway in the video for a few seams?
It is definitely not needed. It was just handy at the time. Just a quick tack that got buried beneath other seams later in the construction.
I like your style 👍🏻
☄️
Thanks,it is amazing, how long was the real time of sewing this tool bag?
TRAVAIL DE PRO ! J'aime très bien ❤
Ok I NEED one of these bags!!! Do you have an Etsy shop? I have been searching for a tool caddy, for crafting and this one seems perfect 😄
About how long did it take you to make this bag real time?
Two thumbs up for that great job thanks for sharing the video keep up the good work
Thank you.
Adorei!!! Parabéns muito bonita! 😘
obrigado
Wow!! Very nice bag!!
Hey! Thanks!
That was so awesome!
You are a PRO!
that's a cool bag and skillful talent you have. I'm curious what type of thread do you use for sewing canvas in that oz?
Polyester, Tex 105 or 138
Do you think this could be constructed with just a home sewing machine (with the sort of fake overlock stitch) and a consew 206rb5?
Yes!
Etsy? Insta? Help! LOL
OUTSTANDING !
THANK YOU!
This is awesome! Great work.
🙂
Hi what model juki are you using?
Juki 1508. I would think that the 1541 would be capable of this project as well. I also have very narrow presser feet that I find helpful for those tricky areas.
Thank you
any links to that canvas you use as well?
I buy local. Richlin Fabric in Kansas City
Me encanta. Muy practica y bonita a la vez.
hello what kind of material do you use? or what other material can be used? answer for a council please wait for your answer
What weight is the canvas? M
I'm not offended, I think it is hilarious.
Well...I've watched this video a couple of times and every time I try - in my head to make it more feminine but it's never the same as this one Alex makes. Awesome tote.
Alexander - Great design. This is an over sized lineman's tool bag - yes? How long does it take for you to make a single one? M
Probably about 8 hours. 16 Oz. canvas. I gave the bag to my brother in law as a gift and the tag says as much.
Yeah that would go good with soup and was my favorite part of this video.
😉
Hi, thank you for the video. I am trying to make a garden tool tote for a friend as a gift. On the cutting instruction, there are : Main Sacrifice Panel (1) End Sacrifice Panel (2) and the Inside Strap - Where do they go on the bag construction? Thanks so much.
Great video! I’m picking up a Jimmy Diresta vibe, and I mean that as a compliment. Subbed!
The guy is awesome. Thank you and glad to have you.
I appreciate you not talking thank you very much. I just need to watch this video 100 more times and then I can do it. Whats the soup that was made to go with the fried polenta 😋
Here is one that I talk. ua-cam.com/video/lz-dL1OKAfs/v-deo.html Vegatable.
Very nice bag. Unlikely that my home machine will go through all those layers.
Thank you and you are correct. I love these machines, they allow me to make the things I dream up. Very rewarding.
