    Please take this as a compliment.... your videos are like watching "This Old House"... same voice bass, same tempo, and most importantly same instructional methods... not sure if that was be design but it works extremely well for "How To Videos".... Thank you. I am a huge fan!

    For as long as I've been watching your videos I never realized you guys are right down the road from me.
    I made one a few years ago out of old jeans. It works but I'd prefer a stiffer fabric that holds shape.

      We made one out of scrap sunbrella several years back. I'm a Mobile Marine Mechanic. Its now coated in about every goo you can imagine and its still holding up. BUT I'm adding this to my long list, wax canvas will definitely add to the cool guy factor when I bust out some tools.

    Thanks for a great video 👍
    I will be making one of these as a gift, only adaption is that I won't hem the bottom of the pocket, just tuck it in the hem of the outer fabric. Should reduce the bulk some 👍😊
    Thanks again for all your great videos

    The video was very instructional and I do appreciate the information in the video. I do need to make a custom tool pouch, not roll, for my stackable tool bin. For some reason the stackable tool bins do not have any organizers inside. The unfortunate part is I do not have a sewing machine, nor do I plan on buying a sewing machine to make several tool pouches. If need be, I will sew by hand all of the tool pouches that I will be creating, for a total of three or four.

    I finally found out after doing two of these why my flap came up shorter than what I wanted. After you do the first seam on the top plate you place it on the corner marks. Right there you lose about 1/2 inch. Then there is no allowance made for a double hem on the bottom of the bottom plate. This takes away from the length of the top flap by about an inch and a half.

      @lewismcgowen 3 роки тому +1

      I just skived the edges (thinned them) and glued them with contact cement and folded them over and stitched them on the front and back plate edges. I made sure to inset them so that when I sewed the two pieces together I had room for another stitch line, when finished it looked like the front plate had a double stitched seem on the edges and bottom.

    The one that came with my wrench set was nylon, and now the bottom seam is blown out. Im goingbto make one in a few days, but it will be one piece folded over to eliminate that bottom seam.

    nice work. i actually made one one of these the other day out of an old waxed canvas bag i found in the old garage. it didnt turn out as nice but it works. made a long box end and a making a short box end. i just hate loose tools in the bottom of my bag. it went from 21mm to 6mm. i actually bought a set special for this roll up as some MMs are omitted, like the 16MM is so close to 5/8 they usually dont make the 16MM as part of the "complete" sets. it came with the imperial sets as well which i really dont use but are good for some stuff.

    Which binding is a good fit for wax canvas? Oh, any chance you can make another video of making something out of wax canvas...purse, tool bag, messenger bag, .... even adding quilting. Thanks, for the great videos!

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  3 роки тому

      Well, you can actually make your own binding out of the waxed canvas if you like, it folds like a dream when scored with an awl. Or you can use a tape maker to fold the waxed canvas to a binding size: www.sailrite.com/search?keywords=tape%20maker. But if you want a prefabricated binding I would pick Top Notch 9 Binding found here: www.sailrite.com/Notions/Trims/Bindings/Brand/Top-Notch

    Do we need a special sewing machine, needle, foot, etc. to work with waxed canvas? What type of thread is recommended and how much yardage of fabric?

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  9 днів тому

      It is easy to sew waxed canvas. If you are using a home sewing machine just use a Tex 60 thread and a size #18 needle. If a heavy duty machine use a Tex 90 and size 20 needle. You will use less than a yard of fabric for this tool roll.

    I like it. The way things are currently its important to always have imperial and metric wrenches. I just bought and put together the compact table and servo motor and it ha both metric and imperial bolts. It also called for a crescent wrench but I didnt know if it was for imperial or metric bolts and I dont yet have a metric crescent wrench? OK, if you are not giggling you must take yourself too seriously, or if you dont know why you should be laughing, you probably shouldn't be allowed to use tools. HaHa.

    Does waxed canvas keep moisture down around the tools? Wondering if these would be good to store items on my sailboat to deter corrosion

    • @mariamunoz6160
      @mariamunoz6160 Рік тому

      Spray the tools with Boeshield once a year, that prevents corrosion. The waxed canvas is good for use in a dry area. In a very wet area, water can get stuck in the tool roll and then it is released over time.
      When it gets damp, you can not wash waxed canvas in a washer and dry it in a dryer, that would destroy the finish and leave specks of wax in the dryer to destroy clothes you dry later, plus it is a fire hazard. You can wash the surface by hand (instructions on Sailrite website) and dry in front of a space heater. This takes a long time to get it completely dry. Waxed canvas develops a "patina" of stains and cracks over time and lots of people like that. If this is not suitable for your application (sailboat) then you could use regular canvas which goes in the washer and dryer. But still spray your tools with protectant. I don't work for Boeing but my brother did, and since he started me on Boeshield for tools in my damp garage, I've used it religiously.

    Does scoring canvas like that jeopardize its integrity??

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  3 роки тому +1

      You obviously don't want to press to the point of damaging the fabric. Because it is a waxed canvas it is easy to score the fabric with little pressure, preventing harm the fibers.
