    All I could think about watching this was how much better the news was in the 90s. Not the story but the reporting, actually going over facts and interviewing people close to the story. Today we would get 1 min of what happened followed by about 48 hours of so called experts trying to spin the story into as many political statements and propaganda as possible. Good job 1990's

      At the time, CNN had no competition and could just report news. When the competitors came along they started beating CNN by adding opinions and so-called experts. CNN had no choice but to do the same.

      @BenchPressManiac he means getting a understanding on why people where they way they where and how it happend so fast. Only storytelling like movies could do that. Here we just information on deaths and updates on the standoff. The movie shows how fucked up John was and how the wrslters kinda of enabled it or just thought it was john being john. The movie is really a good watch

    I'm not sure how accurate the end of the movie was, but when DuPont pulled the gun his security guard was sitting right next to him in the car and did nothing to stop him. He even pulled his weapon and let DuPont pause for a few moments before firing 3-4 more shots, all while he just sat there. A trained security agent who just sat there and did nothing to protect an innocent mans life? That coward was an accessory to murder.

    • @Stophocles

      In an interview with Kurt angle ,who trained on the fox catcher ranch, he stated that du Pont point the weapon at the security guard as well after the first shot..so that's when he got out and went to the back of the car

    • @love_is_sacrifice9414
      @love_is_sacrifice9414 9 років тому +6

      StevieMac! It was much more unexpected in real life. The security guard couldn't do anything!

    • @cloudchaser07
      @cloudchaser07 9 років тому +9

      StevieMac! Absolutely I agree. Shultz was shot 3 times. His security guard should have pulled the gun out of his hand when he aimed the first time and for sure when he fired at David Shultz. whether he was afraid to lose his job if he took the gun out of Du Pont's hands or was he a coward I consider him at fault. There is no way of telling but he could have saved David life after the first shot.

    • @Stevenisbelieven
      @Stevenisbelieven 9 років тому +2

      Tyrion Lannister Thanks, that makes more sense. I couldn't understand how a trained security agent would just sit there while Du Pont just casually killed a man. Still, a very tragic event.

    DuPont treated Foxcatcher like his own private zoo. By building a couple of fancy facilities and getting the Schultz family to reluctantly move in, he thought that US wrestling belonged to him. He even thought he could become a world-class competitor himself in his 50's!
    Truth is that he took a massive dump on the sport and this was long before he killed Dave Schultz...all of the wrestlers were treated like fucking gerbils from day one

    I really wish Bennett Miller (Director of Foxcatcher) had released the film as he originally had intended with no interference from the studio... had a runtime of about 4 hours.. instead of the version we got which was just 2. and what the film had partially accomplished doing but could have done so much better was the relationship Du Pont had with his mother... what makes the movie so good is how perfectly Miller had nailed the dynamic between Du Pont and the Schultzs, to the point where you literally feel like your a fly on the wall at Foxcatcher farms.. Vanessa Redgrave who plays Du Ponts mother in the film, is a legendary actress so it was obviously the studio who made the mistake..

    I watched the movie Foxcatcher yesterday at cinema and now I am very curious about the story. When John Du Pont shot Dave Schultz I was just 12-years-old and in Italy, the country I used to live in, the episode did not have much audience. Sometimes the reality is more charming and disturbing than fiction.

    Oh my god at the beginning that is the most absurd, ridiculous shit ever when the police are just "waiting for him to come out". So a guy kills someone and then runs away and holes himself and the cops don't bust down the door, on the grounds that "he isn't hurting anybody". More like, well he's a billionaire so we knock first. I mean, tell that to all the people who get their doors knocked in for nonviolent crimes. I mean not only did the guy just kill someone but he's still armed and you're "just gonna wait for him to come out". Wtf

    • @briand2424
      @briand2424 9 років тому +1

    First time I watched Foxcatcher I think had too much to drink beforehand. Didn't quite grip me and some of the building tension between characters escaped me. Rewatching it, I truly loved it. Not a very nuanced performance in this one, but Steve Carrell can act as well as anyone. I hope he gets more opportunities in drama.

    I always find it interesting that wives were not allowed to give evidence against OR for their husbands (I know this doesn't apply in this case but the wording in the beginning made it seem like it was Du Pont's wife they were talking about although I am sure he wasn't married)
    It makes sense because a wife may want to get rid of her husband for reasons others don't know or of course she may lie for him, especially if he is her only financial support.
    Conversely she may know she'd inherit his money if he was executed.
    And yet I can't find any evidence that this rule applied the other way around.
