But is it worth the price tag and can it pull a person away from buying a Tudor to buy one of these?

Monta legit ripoff for the money (now at least they werent a year ago), you can get a TUDOR for the SAME PRICE RIGHT NOW , you can get a LONGINES for the same PRICE why would you go micro when you can buy something that will hold its value , has a better movement , and is equally if not better finished ??? ALL LUXURY MARKETS HAVE SLIPPED BY 30%

@@patrickhartmann1540 tudor black bay 58 is 2300 USD right now on chrono , this watch costs the same . 1 for 1 its a ripoff right now . for the next 2 years all luxury markets will be slipping downward as Global currencies are still trying to find stability . you can get bigger discounts depending on currencies used , if you buy from japan with Us dollars right now you will get close to 50% percent off EVERYTHING right now . i bought a car that was 45k last year for 13k shipped this year i just need to pay the port fees on the u.s side when it arrives .

I seriously love your reviews, best on the tube. I’ve heard of the brand, but never really looked closely at them. I’m not a fan of GMT’s but I really like that one from Monta and I’d definitely wear one. Well done Russ 👍

The wife nailed it. Nothing special though it looks well put together. For US buyers I can see the appeal but in UK I'd look no further than CW for a good quality Sellita caller GMT (around £1K). You could easily pick up the Longines (a COSC traveller) for the same money as the Monta. No contest there.

I have the CW C63 GMT in green, and love it. It gets more wrist time than watches 10 times its cost. But…I also own a Monta Skydweller. As much as I am a CW fan (I own 3), the Monta Skydweller is next level compared to CW. Of course, it should be for the price difference. My point though is that you can’t really compare CW to Monta. Monta is in a different class than CW. I would suggest that they compete in different spaces.

Even though you’re a little late to this particular party, I really enjoy hearing your thoughts about this watch and brand. It’s brings it right back into my awareness. I passed on the Oceanking a few years ago because the seconds hand didn’t have a red tip. Silly me.

Always been interested in Monta. This looks seriously well-made. If it were a traveller’s GMT I’d have one tomorrow (personally find them more useful). But it’s made me curious to find out more about their other models. Thanks for the great review! 🙌
Hi Adam, Is it the ability to move the hour hand independently that makes the traveller your favourite? I have traveller's and it is always a pain when it comes to date change if I haven't worn for a while? 👍

Thanks MWC, I really like that watch; have always been a fan of the old Pepsi steel insert bezel GMT Masters but could never afford one. The Monta definitely has that vibe without being a straight up clone. Would deffo consider

Nice review, mate. Monta's been on my radar for a while. Comparable to the likes of Formex and CW in execution.
Wish they'd put the logo on the bezel instead of that weird cockade and thus kept the dial tidier.
An appealing watch for sure! The price is maybe a little high, but if you are searching for a GMT and you are not obsessed with wearing certain brands because of "heritage" I think it is a good option.

I don't love this type of watch, it's been done and done, BUT this Monta Skyquest is very beautiful, the finish is stunning, that bracelet and the bezel .. beautiful

Get the Longines Hydroconquest, in my opinion you are getting better watch, better brand, better value and investment retention. Also, the Longines customer service is superb. What other watch company will keep records of all their products and provide you with proof of authenticity when ever you like. I was able to authenticate a cal 280 from the 60’s free of charge. Awesome company with awesome products.

Never heard of Monta, gorgeous Pepsi colour, much nicer tone than an any other, including Rolex, it looks like Capt Marvel’s super suit. Better looking than any other diver? It’s up there. Great vid Russ, I hit like before you even start talking!

Do like the brand but as a UK buyer, including the VAT, these are more than double the cost of a CW with similar finishing & the same movements. I just don't think the value is there.
In this market sector CW rules. Big fan. Own 2 C65 GMTs .myself, the Pepsi and the "explorer homage."
I like this watch but wouldn't trade my Ward Pepsi for it.
Plus the hassle of sending it back if any problems - initial reason a no -go for a Traska.
I just got a CW 63 36 & the crown action is trickier than the selitta on my Steinhart ( ljust me?)..Also, the case ...if I compare it to my Sarb035 , which spoiled me it seems.., erm...I think I need to compare them to a £££ expensive watch (maybe not: diminishing returns).
CW watches are really good for the price and I'm a fan. But let's be serious for a moment: Monta watches are superior in every way. Not in the same league at all. In fact, a Monta is like a Tudor without the in-house movement and recognition that comes with the name.
At least no longer a safe queen watch. It's a true tool travel watch after all. Great review and cheers 🥂🥂🍾
Really nice, kinda gives out Rolex GMT Master vibes without overtly copying it (other than the pepsi color scheme on the bezel, that is). You're right about the gold not really giving that gilt look such as the Tudor Black Bay does. Myself, though, I preferred the original version you gave a brief glimpse of at the beginning of this video.

I really love this watch but in the opaline white version. There's something special and classy about a white dial and gold indices.
I was lucky enough to get the opaline dial last March. I love it. Every time I see a review with the standard black dial, I wonder if I might like it better. The grass is always greener 😊
I've owned 3 skyquests from the previous generation and all 3 of them had the screw down crown very finicky, sometimes I would spend 10 minutes trying to get the crown to screw back, I hope they fixed this issue

Some interesting comments regarding CW and this Monta. I am on a waiting list for an Explorer 2, but I have been thinking its a waste of time and cash and then this came along. Fair review I feel it is a quality watch.
What would you say about Ginault OR2 compared to this one?
Had a Monta Oceanking for a couple of years before the luminous paint started to fall off the bezel. Haven't bought from a micro brand since.
I’m at a point now in watch wearing that comfort is almost as important as style & complications to me. Consequently, I love a good bracelet & fit & feeling on the wrist is extremely important. It sounds like Montas may fit the bill!
the watch is friggin' gorgeous. Love everything about the design; the shape of the case is beautiful and the color choices are spot-on. If I was willing to pay over a grand for a watch (well, $2500 in this case....), this would DEFINITELY be at the top of the list.
Monta really makes some nice watches. Jack Mason is another independent brand. They have a GMT with a “jumping” hour hand.
Monta certainly seem to make a very solid looking watch. I think there’s so much to like but for me and my watch piggybank, the price is too much to ever seriously consider one from a brand without any notable heritage. I know that “heritage” is a pretty silly reason to consider as part of buying a watch but for some reason, it figures in my watch purchases when they get up there in price.

I definitely hear ya Gareth! When I review a watch I take away all the heritage baggage . But there’s no doubt in my buying thoughts that comes in to play a lot!
"buying heritage" is the watch collector equivalent of "no one ever got fired for hiring IBM" (well, historically anyway).

Are you going to keep it, or sell it? I got the opaline dial version last March, and it gets more wrist time than my Rolex, Tudor, or Grand Seiko. Great review.
Gary I made a strong decision to purge half of my collection by the end of the year so this one’s tricky. I reckon it’s in the top 4 watches I have currently for comfortability!

Monta watches are really excellent. I picked up a year old pre-owned Triumph recently and as you said, it's absolutely comfortable on the wrist. It was easy to size (screwed links) and that quick adjust clasp is excellent. The indices and hands are quite sharp and you can tell they're just of a much higher quality than what you find on lower priced brands. My Triumph is crazy thin at just 9.6mm (yet 150m WR!), but an absolute killer at the office or on casual weekends with a t-shirt. I'm still not sure I love the giant numerals on the newer Skyquest, but overall it's an excellent design. I don't like the gilt Pepsi version personally, but the Coke model is so good! I've gotten to try on their watches at a Windup and from talking to the guys at Monta, they are so passionate and just put a lot of thought into their watches. It makes you want to buy their watches for sure.
I wish the limited edition Opalin Skyquest wasn't gilt, or it would be extra tempting to pick up. I wish there were more ways to try these on, because you'll understand why they're so good when you do. I know they've said they are working on expanding ADs that carry them (only a couple currently, I think), but still that won't help those in Europe. If they come to a watch show near you (Windup, etc.), don't miss out!

I REALLY think you need to review one of the 40mm 11.5mm thick NTH divers. The clue is on those heavenly dimensions...

You can get a C63 Sealander GMT for half the price. Or the C60 GMTs if you want the rotating bezel. Is the Monta twice the watch? Definitly not.

I was very clear in the show my friend, Monta sent me the watch and I didn’t need to send it back . Like most of my reviews. But as is the case most times I’ll only review watches I WANT or am interested in myself .
I thought straight away that that circle thing at the 24 looked very off and the gold isn't quite right. Quality notwithstanding, the dial/face just looked a bit off.

I’m hoping that an aluminum bezel that mimics brushed stainless, and a similar dial on a watch of this size and functionality will be available before I get tired of buying them 😮
VAER is making a legit flyer GMT assembled in America with a decorated Miyota 9075 for way under $1000 USD. I have one, and it’s running +7 seconds a day. Worth a look!
This watch is seriously good. I’ve owned it for a year and it’s stopped me from buying any other GMT. It’s expensive for a microbrand, but the quality is fairly close to Tudor quality.

Nice watches i used to own one, but for the prices they still should be offering more like quick release on the bracelet and maybe some hardening on the SS. Also color matched dat wheel. I would rather get a formex for less
Monta is a great brand, and this example is a cool watch. But…the fact that it's an office/caller GMT (which I actually prefer), priced *well* into travel-GMT territory is a problem in my eyes: besides Seiko competing from the cheap seats of the market (love my 5 Sports GMT SSK003) all the way to Prospex territory, on the travel GMT side you've got Traska's Venturer at US$720, and Jack Mason's Strat-O-Timer at a whisker under US$1k. At over US$2,400, the Skyquest ain't quite got game here to me.
Barret my friend thank you for this . There are always gonna be what is to seen as cheaper watches! I’ve got most of’m but trust me when I tell you this thing feels on par with my Tudors and as comfortable as my Explorer. But if you’re just after a solid GMT get a CW or a Rivington from Duckworth Prestex that has a True Miyota GMT . Does this brand resonate with you? That’s the only question after QC and after care
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR No, I get that the Skyquest is gunning for that *je ne sais quoi* in terms of materials/finish, and I totally believe you in it going toe-to-toe with the likes of Longines and Tudor on that front (not to mention the better wrist feel than the Tudor). I'm just concerned about the nebulous territory Monta is traversing here - a bit of a narrow band. I *do* wish them the best, because they seriously outperform with models like the Oceanking and Triumph.

Monta Noble owner - I love my Monta after a couple of years of ownership. One of a few watches I’ll never part with.
I have the gilt Pepsi gen 1 version. It has more Monta character than this newer plain version. I do like the newer clasp though. I’d say this is more comparable to Longines HydroConquest GMT than CW. Longines has deeper heritage and is a traveler GMT for a hair over this price. But this bracelet is Rolex worthy!
Solid review as always; a little surprising how much stick you’re getting in the comments.
The drab bezel colors hurt the aesthetics for me (note: own the BB GMT Opaline and the subdued colors work with a white/silver dial). And they may be a little overly optimistic on the pricing.
I wouldn’t say it was that bad my friend. I would say on the whole, peoples comments are becoming more and more negative towards luxury priced watches especially on my channel. No watch is too cheap or too expensive here. I love this watch btw

It's got far more positives than negatives-I'd prefer it to the Longines. But I'd be looking at Oris too.
Nice watch. Good quality but No ceramic Bezel ? The Crown was probably made by Orient 😂 but over all its a watch with lots of quality . Awesome bracelet.
Positive: Its a really nice looking watch that looks well put together. Negative, would I spend £2,000 or a brand I have never heard of? er no.

I've been looking at the white dial skyquest for awhile now but at $4035 NZD then shipping and paying duty and GST I could get much better watches out there like a Tudor or Longines to name two.
Not to mention the box it comes in…wow! Rolex could certainly take a lesson in that

It’s beautiful watch but!!!! My bank account says it’s expensive for a Sellita 330-2 elaboré same on Sinn 105 UTC , Formex Diver GMT etc chronometer “cosc” less expensive around almost 1k 😊
When I'm on holiday I'm not much bothered what time it is where I am let alone anywhere else....just saying 😊
Great watch but I agree with the wife as far as the color scheme on this one. I do like the black GMT they make in the same model and have it on my list.
The mismatch between the white markers and hands and the gilt numbers on the bezel just don’t do it for me.

Looks nice, goid quality but still a bit expensive compared to other micro band offerings although the bracelet is quite nice on this Monta. The camera button at the top is a no. Over a grand, nope, at $700 yes. For the same money , the Longines Hydro Conquest ceramic is the winner.

I would argue that in the generic Swiss movement market sector CW are the benchmark and therefore the "rolex" equivalent.
I like this watch but wouldn't buy it over a Ward. Prefer the Ward "design language."
The ward bracelets are great as well.
And to me an office gmt with a quik set date is more useful than a flyer gmt without one as I use the quick set date a lot more than a flyer gmt complication.
I’d agree but CW must be careful not to over flood their line up . The amount of reference they have is a lot! I don’t think that’s good for a brand unless you’ve been going for 60 years
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Indeed, their "core collection" seems to be the Trident dive watches, all the rest seems a revolving cast kind of thing. Then agian like Rolex their tridents seem to be evolving also all the time.
Rolex of Microbrands - came in here expecting a Halios video.
If I want to know the time in a different zone I consult my brain or my iPhone. I’ve never been a GMT fan.
Super watch, makes me wonder what Rolex owners think they've got for their money. And I have one myself.
Allow me to respond. Rolex owners have an intangible value called Brand Equity. In addition to bullet proof movements (extremely close tolerances, built quality and finish), impecable style and the best resale value. Better than any micro brand. Brand Equity its what has been built for decades and commands such high ticket new/re-sale and consumer demand. So its not the parts (bracelets some are crappy) its the value that resides in consumers minds.
