- My girlfriend and I (an Italian couple from Milan) review New York's top 5 Pizza places. We love Italian Pizza, but how does the Pizza in New York City compare? What are the best Pizzeria in NYC? #pizza #nyc
The man is Italian but he speaks English with a Norwegian sounding accent.
and also looks
Maybe reminds you of another norvegian speqking english?
But he speaks Italian with a strong Roman accent.
K
A lot of non native English speakers take on accents from different areas when learning accents. Just off the top of my head Lennon was Russian but spoke like an Irishman when speaking in English.
It's good to see a video by an Italian who actually gives NY pizza a proper chance. Most of the other "Italian tries NY pizza" videos are of people acting like an exaggerated Italian stereotype, picking random spots and screaming how Neapolitan style is the only real pizza, while this is American garbage (even though most good NY pizza places are owned by Italian immigrants). So yeah, nice video.
Thanks 😃 they were awesome!
Immigrants?? LOL
They seem to like Chicago deep dish tho 😎. Meanwhile New Yorkers react to deep dish how you're accusing Italians of reacting to NY pizza. Ironic!
@@alessandrom7181legal ones Lmao
@@countryfirstusa9072 Mostly Albanian ones lol
Nice video by open-minded pizza fans from Italy. I've been going to no-slice John's on Bleecker St. for ca. 70 years (from when the murals of the Bay of Naples and Blue Grotto were the original dark ones, not the current bland replacements, and from when blind "Tiny" sat beside the oven all day. Anyone remember him?). All respect for maintaining the high quality. But pizza out of a takeout box carried home isn't a fair comparison, and neither is a slice taken out of a warming tray.
And, as others point out below, you haven't really eaten the best U.S. "apizza" if you haven't gone to New Haven: Sally's, Pepe's, The Spot. I live on the West Coast now and I've eaten lots of pizza over many years. I come back East occasionally. There's simply none that compares.
Thank you for the lovely comment Joel! I’ll definitely be back and try them out next time 🙏🏻
Agree. Sally’s and Pepe’s have no competition.
Totally agree! New Haven “Apizza” is the best!
@@kidkong637 sure...everything is the best in CT. People rushing to move there.
Have a lot of good memories of John’s on Bleecker. Sad I won’t live in the city again, but it’s a different place e now anyway. Was nice to live there during the peak.
You guys should check out
1) Lucali
2) L’industrie Pizzeria West Village
3) Scarr’s Pizza
Agreed, those ones are definitely worth checking out. I would also add Roberta’s (original) and then there are some very solid Napolitana style places now
Good list. Lucali is definitely worth the hype. Get a calzone as well, but you'll never eat another afterwards
Wait, there’s a L’Industrie in the West Village? I’ve only ever been to the one in Williamsburg
Scarr's is hands down the best pizza in NYC right now. Love Lucali, too, but the wait at both places is insane.
Lindustrie in Brooklyn better. Also DiFara in Brooklyn.
I like your way to espone the topics and to describe the food, there is always some new words to learn that's why I subscribed to your channel. I try to use the words that I hear in your videos in my videos. Thank you both keep going like this!!!
Thanks a lot my friend!
Joe nicknamed from Joseph, which is Giuseppe. Giovanni is John.
Really enjoyed watching y'alls vlog of NYC pizza, particularly from your Italian perspectives. Keep up the great work!
Thank you 🤩
i love the editing and the video style!
Hi.
Been living in nyc 48 years.
There's a place on 40th btwn 5th Ave and Madison, south side of street, called _Upside Pizza_ .
Sourdough crust, mozzarella and pecorino cheese, it REALLY stood out to me.
If youve lived here your whole life...anything different is good, esp with pizza.
I’ve been to Italy and the USA many times and have tried different types of pizza in both countries. Roman style, Naples, New York, Detroit, Chicago. Hands down NYC is my favourite. I feel like they tried some old school ones but not the best old school ones and none of the “new school” ones either.
As a foreigner I also agree. I grew up eating American pizzas and the pizzas I had in NYC were the best I had in my life. Pizzas in Italy felt more like a bread
Italians hate to hear it but it was italian immigrants in the USA who made pizza super popular. In Italy at the time, it wasn't a famous dish. Then when it became popular in the USA and consequently in the world, Italy started promoting it. Rightfully so since they did create the dish.
Italian style pizza is delicious too but I prefer American style, especially NYC or New Haven.
Some people prefer neapolitan or some other Italian style and that's fine
I agree with you that American pizza is great. However if you can visit some less known parts of America like in far rural areas or less known parts. The pizza can be so bad that it’s fascinating.
Next time for sure! 🤗 if you come back to Italy and go to Rome I would suggest you trying Roscioli for pizza al taglio (sliced pizza) 🍕 take care and have a good one
Wtf are you guys talking about. Best pizzas in Italy.. the ingredients is absolutely amazing
I like your guys’ style and vibes! Keep up the good content 👌
🙏🏻🍻
Very cool.
I absolutely love you guys. Great chemistry, dry humor and a good set of tasting buds!
Oh, and i forgot to mention those sunglasses, very speedy.
Watching you guys, I suddenly feel like pizza! Must have been an amazing day! btw, love the sunglasses!
I loved how quick and to the point this video was! And very comical. U got a new subbie !
😃
New Yorker here… enjoyed your review. It takes a lot to eat this many slices in 24 hours. My recommendation for Best New York Slice is called NY Suprema Pizza, across from Madison Square Gardens on 8th Ave. The pizza has a distinct nostalgic that reminds people of their first taste of pizza. For me, it reminds me of going roller skating in the early 1980s and having a slice 🍕 I know Anthony Bourdain considered it among his very favorites as well. Again, it won’t taste like Italy but certainly the flavor of NYC.
Agree! NY Pizza Suprema is the best in New York. Upsidedown slice!
Come on, that’s pretty average pizza
Ny pizza supremas sauce is what makes it special. Love it.
You'll find vastly different views on Suprema. I find the sauce WAY too sweet. I can't stand it. But a lot of people love it. A matter of personal taste.
@@Sam_on_UA-cam Everyone has different tastes and opinions. The sweetness in the sauce pairs well with the pecorino they sprinkle on top of it creating an intoxicating profile. Personally I’m not a fan of an acidic sauce with too many herbs. I’m lookin at you Two Boots 😒. As stated Suprema hits the nostalgia notes for me. I’ve held other pizzas in the #1 spot over the years. Various “Ray’s” …sadly the best ones have closed. John’s of Bleeker is excellent but I’m not always wanting to order a whole pie. There’s some new joints in Brooklyn that I like but I always come back to Suprema. What’s your favorite?
Great video. We went to NYC last week for our spring break. We had John's and had to go back a second time before we left it was so good.
OMG what a swift and wild video, yet informative and emotional.. Amazing stuff!!
Loved the video! I was just in NYC trying a bunch of pizzerias too!
The music edit just makes the suspense fascinating! Love it! keep it up!! (new sub!)
Should try the top Neapolitan pizzas in the city, San Matteo, Una Pizza, Ribalta.
You guys should try the pizzas in New Haven.....many rave about them as being the best in the country.
very capturing as well as insightful, well deserved like and sub!
keep doing the great work guys, im sure that in a few years u will get more and more views, dont give up!
Great job, loved your video 👍
If you want some truly disgusting pizza, try Pizza Planet at Disneyland. 😅
Hahaha, nothing is good at Disney 😅
Every time I go to NYC I try the pizza the locals suggest and I hadn't found a single slice which was good. Joe's Pizza was one of the ones I'd tried and thought it had less taste than a cheap frozen pizza.
My last trip, I took some new suggestions and finally found two places that were actually good. First(and my favorite) was Scarr's. Their "Hot Boy" slice was excellent. Pepperoni, jalepno and hot honey. Next I tried L'Industrie. Also a very good slice, though their sauce was a bit on the salty side. The detroit style they had there, however, was terrible.
I'll have to try the 4 you tried here(yeah not going back to Joe's) next time I'm in the city!
Buona Giurnata to both of you from Kuwait! Loved the video, subbed and looking forward to more videos. Salam!
Thank you 🙏🏻
I agree that Joe's on Carmine street was not that good. Excited to try Lombardi's. Thanks for the tips!
No sweat 🍻
Lombardi’s is only worth it for historical significance at this point
Enjoyed your video. You’re right, with the right ingredients pizza is not hard to make. I make my own in a regular convection oven. It’s a fraction of the price and it’s a fun activity for the whole family
Love the used font! Real vintage :D
I have lived in the UK and all I remember from their pizzas is that all of the ones I have tasted were very sweet, like candy. It is probably added sugar in the sauce. Here in Brazil, people use less sauce and the sauce is usually tomato puree with some spices, maybe some olive oil, but not sugar.
Have you tried Lucali’s in Brooklyn NY?
dude love the no bs pace and 5 min length of video. This is perfect. Easy sub.
Appreciate it!
forza pizza! Fun video, hope you enjoyed your time in NY! i largely agree with your reviews and assessments. I also really like grimaldis
5 long form videos with 1.6K subs, well done! You're definitely doing something right!
Short and sweet, just love it. #2 was definitely one of the best.
I was born in Napoli and lived there until I was 5. My parents lived there on and off over my first 33 years. My favorite is Pizza Trianon in Vomero but maybe this is nostalgic memories, I just love the location and proximity to villa Floridiana. Either their classic bufala margherita or fiore di latte con melanzana. Or a good margherita con salsiccia napoletana e funghi. Now I’m hungry, but tickets to Naples from the US are too expensive … lol. PS I too have a brown hair and red beard, Greek mother Swiss American father.
Lookibg very nice. Thank you for sharing.😊
L'industrie in Brooklyn is INSANELY good. I didn't think a 10/10 existed until I had that slice.
Mammas too is the most underrated pizza in NYC. And you did it right. The house pie is as good as Difaras. The other slices are closer to Detroit style and are excellent as well. Glad to see them 1st on your list.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You guys should’ve went to Difara Pizzeria!
We will!
L&B spumoni gardens in Brooklyn the square/ Sicilian slice nothing beats it. It’s heaven on a plate .
i live by cornell and slices are more than the city its crazy. expensive area but nyc is more expensive doesnt make sense cant wait to go to all these places
Next time I am in NYC I will try Patsy's or John's. Thanks guys!
NYC has great pizza, but the best pizza I've ever eaten was at a small shop in Florence called Pizza Napoli 1955. Located right across the street from the world-famous All’antico Vinaio.
I have been to NYC a couple of times but never tried their pizza. We have pretty good pizza in Chicago as well but wish I had had tried NY's. People say such good things about NY pizza.
I just spent a month in NY and every time I'd be in the city I'd be grabbing a slice from a new pizza place. Shame I missed Mama's too, oh well next time!
Its funny that i initially was confused by the sunglasses but then i remembered "oh, he's Italian, italian dudes are crazy about weird sunglasses"
I want to try all of them!!!!
Fun video thanks! Even if I am skeptical that a new york size pizza is $4 in Naples... haha. Oh and I should say, you don't need subtitles. You are incredibly easy to understand for Americans.
Great video guys
Nicely done - thank you!
Thank you for taking us with you, we loved it even though we never tasted them. 😅
🫶🏻😃
1.) DiFara’s (Brooklyn)
2.) John’s of Bleeker St (Manhattan)
3.) Luigi’s (Brooklyn)
4.) L’Industrie (Manhattan)
5.) Scarr’s (Manhattan)
Im so happy that you guys visited Mams Too!
You need to visit the ones in Brooklyn. Brooklyn is on another level. If you are willing to endure the long wait, Difara's and Lucali are undisputed number 1 in my book. Then there is Juliana, best pizza... the list goes on. You just have to go to Brooklyn... I would recommend Difara the most. If you can make it to New Haven for the Apizza, Sallys and Frank pepes!
Thank you! Will try them 🤘🏻🥂
The best ‘New York’ pizza is a couple in brooklyn and and ironically several in NJ
@@adrianotheitaliano also go to L'industrie in Williamsburg. If you think Mama Too's is a 8.5/10, you'll think they're a 17/10
You should e gone to Juliana’s in DUMBO & Arturo’s In SoHo on Houston St. My favorites in NYC!
The concept is cool but why 5 pizzeria in one day instead of 5 or at least 2 ?? Was you staying just one day in NY ?
love the sunglasses!!!
No, there is none of me that doesn't like pizza. Your explanation of why is perfect. Really nicely made video!
Thank you so much 😀
Solid reviews: You need to go to Brooklyn next time
John’s actually started back in 1915 as Pizzeria Port’Alba founded by Filippo Milone. The place was taken over by John Sasso (who was related to Milone by marriage) and moved from 175 Sullivan to its current location. So it is practically the oldest running pizzeria in Manhattan.
shame they didnt go to difara. personally my favorite reg slice is from amore in flushing but the difara was probably the best pizza ive had in NY
That last quote is exactly what I say about dough in general
Ragazzi, where did you come up with this list? Apart from John’s, which is my favorite NY style pizza, these aren’t bad places for the most part, but far from the “best”. It is true that Lombardi’s is the first licensed/recognized pizzeria in the country, but it really isn’t good any more. I’m not sure how you can say that Patsy’s is like Roman style pizza, as it is not nearly thin or crunchy enough (see Il Laboratorio, L’Elementare, San Remo in Roma for comparison). Mainly, you missed all of the good places in Brooklyn and a few solid ones in Manhattan and Staten Island.
New Haven,Ct has the best pizza palaces by far, Pepe’s ,Sally’s, Modern and a few in surrounding towns !!
You came a long way to try Italian foods. Have you tried other cuisines in New York?
Plenty!
I'm surprised that you didn't try L'Industrie Pizzeria. That's the new hotness. Always a crazy long line
Been to NYC many times. Some excellent eateries with many many medicore to poor ones - I would say average in terms of global large cities (for many years I went around the world 4-5 times a year for work). NYers would say the food is great but mainly because they know the good ones and which ones to avoid. However, I thought tthe video was well made. Nice show of personalitiies, kept moving along at a good pace, and an interesting topic.
Thanks!
Can you recommend the best pizza in Milan?
Sure! I really like Coke Pizzeria (super thing and crunchy). If you are more into Neapolitan style, Starita pizzeria is really good as well 🫶🏻🍕
Great video. Subbed.
Welcome! :)
Mama Too's is so slept on.
That poached pear pizza is divine, and their classic is unreal.
SENPAI 😩

Where did you get the sunglasses?
Adidas
You can find good pizza in every big American city now. We are blessed. Looking forward to trying pizza in Italy.
I'm American but lived in Napoli for many years.......nothing compares to a true pizza Margareta from a dive pizza restaurant in Naples!

Ciao ragazzi.
New Haven capital pizza of the world scusa Italia . Great topping but no crunch on Napolitana pizza
Have you ever tried roman pizza? It Is crunchier and a differenti style i disagree with your opinion
@@leonardocozzitorto2579 have you tried New Haven pizza .? I disagree with your opinion
As someone that grew up in America that has been to Itality a couple of times(Sicily/Roma. Italian food is incredible and is better than American Italian in every aspect, except for Pizza. American Pizza clears Italian style every day aside from the michelin stars spots that plebs like me cannot access.
Kind of of shocked they didn’t go to prince street pizza. It’s super famous and one of the top rated shops in nyc too.
It's been a while since I've been to NYC, but I really liked Roberta's and Scarr's
Bro what are those sunglasses? But very nice review
😅 they are adidas cycling sunglasses! I had just finished cycling California from north to south and stopped in nyc before flying back home to Italy
You guys missed the following:
Difara
Lucali
L'industrie
Rubiosa
Bleeker street (It's the same management as John's pizza but that's actual slices and I think it is a bit different)
"Best pizza" (Yeah that's the name)
scarrs
Oh well we all have one stomach and you can't do it all... not in one day', That's for sure
Next trip! Next video 🍻😃
It is very hard not to do this wrong if you are not a New Yorker with a lot of pizza knowledge, just like I'm sure I didn't get the best pizza in Rome when I was there recently. Not my home turf. I recommend Scott's Pizza Tour. Here's my commentary on the places you went and where you should have gone.
Lombardi's is 100% the first pizzeria in America, though not that location. They closed down and reopened at one point, taking the bricks from their original oven to line the new one. Pizza was a popular street food before then among Italian immigrants, but they were the first restaurant. The founders of the other famous old pizzerias all worked there. Totano was their first chef and it was disputed whether it was his recipe or Lombardi's recipe, which I find odd since Totano's Pizza today tastes very different from Lombardi's Pizza today.
Another famous pizza chef got his start there too, Patsy. He then opened Patsy's Pizza, which itsef is most famous for being the place where the most legendary pizza maker in NYC history, Patsy Grimaldi, got its start. Patsy Grimaldi was the nephew of the owner, also named Patsy. The family franchised and Patsy Grimaldi opened his own place in Brooklyn. The family sold the business and the new owners sued Patsy Grimaldi and forced him to change the name of his place from Patsy's to Grimaldi's. Grimaldi's became one of the highest rated pizzerias in NYC and the quality of Patsy's under new ownership, while still good, isn't what it was. Grimaldi then sold his pizzeria and retired. The new owners moved to a larger location across the street. As soon as his non-compete expired, Patsy Grimaldi, then in his 80s, opened up a new place in the same original location where he previously ran Patsy's and then Grimaldi's. Now legally barred from using either his first or last name, he called it Juliana's, after his mother. You should have gone there instead of Patsy's.
John's has been consistently great for decades. No complaints there.
Mama's Too is part of a new wave of places that often use gimmicks. Many of them also have genuinely great food, but it is very different from what New Yorkers are used to.
Joe's looks like a pretty typical NYC slice to me. I haven't heard of it. It would be undoubtedly better if you get a fresh slice. Reheated is still excellent, but a significant downgrade from a fresh pie. There is only one place that makes pizza in that style that can truly compete with the coal oven places like Juliana's, John's, and Lombardi's. That's DiFara. It is one really old guy from Italy. He is the only one allowed to touch the ingredients and the oven. He uses only the best and knows his oven like a true master. There is no better pizza chef in NYC history, not even Patsy Grimaldi. He is the ONLY one able to use a gas oven at 700 degrees F and still make a pizza every bit as good as what you can get from a 1000 degree F coal oven. Most NYC pizza has been gas oven pizza since the clean air act outlawed new coal ovens. But still, he is the only one that doesn't need a coal oven to get to that top level.
I think what you’re trying to say at 5:29, is one of the most famous quotes I’ve ever heard. “pizzas is like sex, even if it’s cold, it’s good”
(yes, this is coming from a male perspective😅)
Great reviews...none of these places used fresh mozzarella cheese..I though that was required? Anyway,my brother ate at Lombardo's Pizza a few years ago-he said it was good but not great.
Not sure! Fore sure neither patty nor Joe. The other I believe so but might have been frozen mozzarella and not fresh
You should have tried in Brooklyn... or New Haven's Apizza
In Italy, will they make pizza with all type of toppings on them or is that (supreme meat lovers, etc.) an American thing?
You have some level of personalisation but not as much as USA. Meat on pizza in Italy is usually either ham or sausage. Very seldom do you find pepperoni or other meats
Take care!
@@adrianotheitaliano Thanks, That is what I thought.
You should try Sottocasa in Harlem.
I totally agree with the closing statement. I love me grilled sandwiches.
So many more to try in NYC! Mi dispiace ma ce ne sono tanti meglio di queste cingue! Grazie per il video e buon viaggio!
The only pizza I spend money on is the pizza that my girlfriend and I prepare ourselves at home using an original Italian recipe for the dough with original Italian pizza flour “Tipo 00 or 0” and “Mutti” peeled tomatoes, freshly grated parmasan, mozzarella and basil and additional toppings depending on our mood and a pizza stone and that's what the people we invite say too... and we're German.
I only eat apizza ( ahbeetz ) No mosserella just a little grated cheese & basil. My go to pizzeria in Manhattan is Grand Street Pizza.
no bullshit non italian biased reviews, yoi've earned a sub
Great video, usually italians are just saying its garbage because of some silly insecurity. Lombardis actually has a claim to be the first pizzeria in america there is a whole lore behind it.
best pizza i had in ny was Lucali he rools the pizza with a wine bottle puts toons of basilico on top
Nice video. I see its a brand new channel. If I may give you a piece of advice...go to Texas and do something like " Italians try Americas best B'Bque. " Trust me, your vids will go viral. For some reason, us Americans love to watch people critique or most famous culinary delight..b'que.
True af
Pizza in New York has been around longer than pizza pretty much everywhere in Italy except Naples. Pizza was popular in New York and Chicago well before it was in Rome and Florence.
Surely true, but the entire Mediterranean has traditions of topped bread. Hard to define exactly what is and isn't pizza. Also, people move around and you get get most ingredients most places nowadays. I've spent a week in the Naples region after I'd worked in a pizzeria several years in the US and made my own pizza for a decade. I really liked it--but the best Neapolitan I've had is in Tokyo at Pizza Studio Tamaki. The Michelin guide gave more Michelin stars for French restaurants in Tokyo than in Paris. What I like traveling in Italy is how every little town has some dish featuring some cheese only available in a 5km circle or so. You can't get that cheese anywhere else!
love the video to see your perspective on american food! try pineapple on pizza next 😂
Why did you waste your time going all the way up to Mama's TOO! when you could have just gone to the Mama's Too which is a few hundred feet up Bleeker St. from Johns (and also near Joes). I don't know which one is the original though.
I didn’t know there were two! Good to know thanks
I'll be honest in America the best pizza is at places you wouldn't think would be good. Like gas stations or out of the way places. 1 of the best thin style pizzas ive ever had was the middle of nowhere on the Illinois/ Indiana border . Overpass pizza 147 S Stringtown Rd, Covington, IN 47932.
