I played with Chuck when I was in college. That horn, my friends, is a flugelhorn, and Chuck is the acknowledged master of it. He has had a helluva career, with this being his biggest hit, but some other tracks of his that stand out are "Land Of Make Believe," "Hill Where The Lord Hides" (the live version!), and one that he recorded for the ABC network coverage of the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, NY, called "Give It All You Got." He's really brilliant, and just a super nice guy.

You’re right it just grabs your soul. I hadn’t heard this song for decades and one day it came on a compilation commercial and I frantically tried to figure out the title but I couldn’t find it. A few years ago, I took my older kids to Jazz Alley in Seattle. Chuck Mangione was the headliner. That venue is famous for being intimate, and for giving ticket holders access for autographs between shows. Chuck was a fantastically generous artist. My kids had NO IDEA they were trading lame kid jokes with a massive artist. He signed CDs for our nieces. I was starstruck. Our kids were clueless. But other adults in the venue were jazzed for our kids.
What a class act he was.

Class of '85, sousaphone/tuba player, but decided in college to learn all the brass instruments. Chuck came to play "Hill Where The Lord Hides" with our marching band at Western Michigan University, and he peeked in on my applied music lesson with our high brass TA, whose name escapes me at the moment. It was kind of amazing. He's a super nice guy. But yeah, we did "Land Of Make Believe" my sophomore year in high school, too.

Chuck was one of my dad's favorite. For his Fathers Day/Birthday gift, I would get him tickets to the show Chuck did every summer at SDSU Open Air and I would go with him. Special times. When I was in my 20's, my dad would come over to my place with a bottle of rum or JD or both and we would sit around and talk all night. Several times we talked about the afterlife and he promised that if there were any way for him to contact me after he died, he would and he stated that it would likely be some kind of music communication. When I was in my mid 50's my dad had a heart attack, we lived 800 miles apart so the morning when I heard about it, I called the hospital. I was told that he would be okay and should be going home that afternoon. Well, he died at 1:24 that afternoon and just about that time this song came to me loud as can be in my head. It was the remastered version. I knew when I heard it that he had passed on and he was letting me know what the transition felt like. Feels So Good. I now have zero fear of death

Chuck Mangione is a Jazz musician. He has played the flugelhorn and trumpet. Mangione started out his music career in 1960. He also played, recorded, and toured with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers during the 1960s. Then he branched out on his own, and recorded numerous albums, and won two Grammy Awards for his recordings. Chuck Mangione did some voiceover work for the animated FOX television series, "King Of The Hill". Mangione retired from the music industry in 2010, after a 50-year career. Chuck Mangione is 81 years old.
"Feels So Good" was a HUGE hit for Chuck Mangione in 1977, during the Disco Era. It got A LOT of airplay on Rock, Pop, and Jazz/Classical music radio stations at that time. This Jazz instrumental appealed to music fans of all ages, races, and genders. I believe that this recording was the last instrumental recording with a horn instrument to have a major impact on the music charts in the United States.
