This prosecutor has me thinking I could be a lawyer. The family relationships are confusing. There should be a permanent set up with the family tree of the victims with one or two dot points about them underneath (loving father etc) for memory prompts for the jury. It seems like the locations of the residences will be important too so why not have that on the board as well maybe with some larger pictures to the side so she doesn’t have to say “remember that place where there was only the porch left?”. I’d probably also have pictures of the defendant with his family members. Clearly they are going to come up again and again so we need to have a visual reminder of who these people are. There’s also just a bunch of extraneous detail included. It’s like when you are told you need to do an executive summary so you take the first sentence from every paragraph instead of actually thinking about what the actual point of your paper is. I don’t need to hear what every witness is going to argue. I need to hear the general gist of what the defendant did, when, with what and with whom so I can navigate the trial. Add in a bit of sympathy for the victims and that’s a good opening statement. This one will just have the jury turned off immediately. “I’m kinda bouncing around here” understatement of the year.

That’s exactly right. It needs to be telling a story. It’s like she’s trying to prove every single element in opening and that’s not what it’s for. It was pretty infuriating to listen to a story and right when you think you’re getting into it and hearing about the next person that was found brutally killed it sounds like “this was at that 2nd residence you were brought to, the one with the basement, umm there were 2 rooms on the right, the kitchen was to your left, there was the newly built garage, umm front porch and dandelions growing in the yard. Wanna know who really messed up? Law enforcement not charging them with ARSON for burning down two houses and multiple vehicles to collect insurance money. Like how tf did no one see a pattern?
The prosecutor sounds like she just got the case yesterday and not prepared. Too much information about all the other people (non-victims) for an opening statement. She could mention them and say we're going talk about them later in the trial. This is poorly presented and confusing, especially when you have 8 murdered people.
Whoever asked her to step closer to the microphone should have also suggested she watch her "um" factor.. This will be a perfect example to new law students on what not to do during an opening statement... I had to skip it...
At the bottom of that photo collage the words typed are family tree. In no way was this a family tree. Maybe if they had constructed it as a family tree, it would have been easier to understand and process. With all the years the prosecution had to prepare, this is what we get??? Wow. Smh
Instead of telling the jurors what each witness will say, put them on and have them say it! Openings should be to the point and as quick as you can, or you have already lost the jurors before you even start.
Is the defendant conscious? He hasn't moved the whole two hours! * I stand corrected, he moved at the 2:04 mark lol. Angela is a real nut case! Her need to control other people's lives is ridiculous! She needs to be locked away forever!
It amazes me how many attorneys, when speaking, say Umm! It is unbelievably irritating and I don’t understand how they don’t realize how much they say it and how incredibly unprepared and unintelligent it makes them sound! It drives me crazy and is definitely a pet peeve of mine! 😤 The woman prosecutor needs to record herself and listen to how often she says Umm and work on this bad habit she has picked up and FIX IT….it’s NERVE WRACKING !! 🙉 💆🏾♀️
Agreed. It was once taught that Um wasn't a word it was however, a pause to gather thoughts. Perhaps a deep breath? A long pause? Nothing wrong with slowing the speed of her speach.
It's unbelievable. You'd think that she would've learned this in a communications or public speaking course throughout her journey to become a lawyer. Somewhere this should've been taught and stressed to not do this.
Starry Night, I would be interested, too but think this is better to not be allowed to see due to safety and privacy reasons for people who live there now. The footage could make it much easier for anyone to find out the locations and go there.
@Starry Night there is a video titled Pike County still reeling from 8 murders. It's by the Columbus Dispatch channel. The trailers are no longer there, but he drives down Union Hill Rd and shows where those 3 occured.
⭐️ I once stood trial for attempted murder, way back in 2002. Prosecutors opening spoke of how a dirtbag had kicked in my moms door, beat her up & robbed her. Despite a stack of evidence, the D.A decided not to go ahead with an indictment. Meanwhile I’m just 4 days into my 1st deployment to Afghanistan so a few weeks after I returned a guy in a mask was seen on shabby cctv “stalking” the guy from his favorite bar, to his truck where the masked guy put a Mossberg shotgun, a small 10.5” weapon & he shot him 3 times. The fat pig actually survived 3 slugs but will always wear a bag for both 1 & 2. The owner of the stolen getaway car admitted he lied to cops, the lead detective was caught in a lie also. The victim, who was now a recovered addict said, “I just told cops what they wanted to hear coz they promised to drop my cases.” The jury took 4 hours to exonerate. Don’t break law of course & remember states like mine that are pro-2A go hardest on gun crimes coz it’s these ppl who are messing it up for the rest of the ppl.⭐️
It is a strange name for a person, for sure. But to be fair, there are some people named 'Bunny' for instance. I feel bad for people whose parents gave them bad names lol. I went to highschool with a kid named "Christopher Robin". Like, the Pooh character. I can't imagine how much he might have gotten teased in elementary school from mean kids.
There's nothing more disappointing than a dull opening statement.... For a trial like this they need the person to be ON POINT! Way too much dithering and Ums!
This prosecutor did an abysmally terrible job of explaining these victims and their connections to the jury. I despise when prosecutors continuously jump around because they forget to mention details. This should not be a slew of umms and ahs trying to remember what to say next, but a rote memorization of the story and delivered as if you had actually rehearsed it. Given there are so many victims, I would have expected a much more organized delivery than what was presented.
@@chumchum4393 Yes, I’m sure that’s exactly what you tell a jury who isn’t allowed to look up outside information on a case. Instead of trolling like a disingenuous imbecile, consider the point at hand. A prosecutor is supposed to clearly, effectively, and professionally lay out the story to a jury and proceed to present the evidence backing up that clear story.
The Carnation murders. Defendent Joseph McEnroe. McEnroe shot six family members. Two being very young children. Killed in the family home over Christmas holidays. Harrowing case. It is difficult when there are numerous intertwined family members. The Carnation opening was complex to take in.
@@janewaterfield648 Which is why this prosecutor should have practiced her delivery a lot more than she did. She was jumbled in the order she chose to explain things, even when she had reference material for her points in front of her. Good speaking skills demand you deliver clean, clear statements and omit the incessant uhmming and ahhhh-ing and mumbling underneath your breath to yourself. It was simply a bad presentation and a terrible way to introduce your case to a jury. There are many prosecutors who have large, complex cases like this with numerous victims and they strive even more so to deliver the facts in a clean, organized fashion while utilizing professional speech etiquette. She just winged it. That was obvious.
This is a very poor presentation from the state. One hour into it, she has introduced the victims & why they were at the house and who was sleeping and taking pictures and whatnt but she doesn't say what caused this family feud. When did it all start and how did it end up the way it did? She should start at who the victims are, who killed them and why. Then introduce the who the characters are.
I just noticed she never said,"The evidence will show....", like you usually hear during most opening statements. She just rambled mostly about everyone else but him. Sounds like they're going for guilt by association.
@@PrincessPattyPumpkin but it's not entertainment it's about facts she gave the facts. When she talked about him moving Hanna's body to let her 5 day old infant breast off her dead mother the mom me hurt for the that infant most of the jury is women they will feel that. the image of two babies left next to their dead mothers is haunting. Again this not about entertainment we are talking about and entire family lost over control.

Um would be tolerable if she got some fire I. In her opening..a mother being executed while nursing...babies covered in blood, the innocence of the the victims. She should study Jodie Arias prosecutor'sopening or Kathy Fegler ?)

She's a poor public speaker. Besides all the um's she rambles around and jumps back and forth. It's like she's speaking off the cuff instead of a rehearsed opening statement. In the end, I don't think it will matter when his brother and mother testify against him.
@@klondikebelridge1996 I agree that it will likely all come down to Angela & Jakes testimony, however, I was easily able to follow along with the opening statement. Its not an easy case, is it!? Its *extremely* complex & pretty much most of the whole world's eyes were on her in a court of law and a Jury hanging onto her every word. (or so they should be!) I know it's her job, & yes, I'm sure she gets paid well to do it, but please, let's give her a break. I personally feel she did as good as she possibly could with this extremely complicated case. And I'm sure the majority of us have little "quirks" (like "Um"). Some of which I'm sure that some of us, if not most, are not aware of, as she may not be. Remember Chris Watts? He had an awful habit of saying "Like" in almost every sentence! I don't mean to be confrontational, but please, let's give her a break, please. 🤗
@@benji303 I'm not knocking her as an attorney. She may be a brilliant legal mind. And it's not the um's that throw me. Its the constant jumping back and forth on the timeline and saying, oh I forgot to mention this or that (she did that at least 3 times). Yes, she's probably a better public speaker than I am but I'm not a prosecutor. It's just a disappointing, disjointed delivery. You would have thought the opening statement would be rehearsed tens of times. But maybe she was having a bad day and maybe the thought of it being streamed and heavily watched got to her. Hopefully they do a good job presenting the evidence. We can tell from the defenses statement they are going with the "he didn't shoot anybody and was forced to go along" defense. I think (hope) he'll be convicted of 8 counts of conspiracy to get murder. That should put him away for life.

This might be the worst opening statement by a prosecutor I have EVER SEEN...
This a terrible terrible murder and tragedy it affects so many precious lives. I can’t fathom why someone would do that. 😭 so very sad!
Pure evil
George looks as if he is sleeping.
@@cynthiacarter514 he looks very unconcerned smh
So sad..the smirk on his face is so creepy...he is evil...he will face God...
Yes. Compared to the prosecutor who delivered the opening statement in the Parkland school shooting case, she pales in comparison.
I noticed that as well
It's unbelievable. You'd think that she would've learned this in a communications or public speaking course throughout her journey to become a lawyer. Somewhere this should've been taught and stressed to not do this.
you have brought it to my attention and I can't "unhear" it! So Annoying!
I sure hope Tabitha has full custody of her son now.
I wish we could see video footage of the field trip that the jury got to go on to see all of the houses and properties where the murders were done.
This lawyer went to "UM" university... 😐
What university did you go through?
@@chumchum4393 you are definitely trolling hard on all these comments, I'll give you that!
@@awright119021 That or he's the prosecutors son.
I’ve never heard anyone being named Bovine. That refers to cattle. I’m sorry if anyone finds this disrespectful, but it’s weird
Its a horrible nameand says alot about the idiots that gave that poor child that name
Is it Beau-Vine ?? Is it being pronounced incorrectly or are we perceiving it incorrectly because it is hyphenated???
@@HB.hobby.apiarist Beau-Vine and bovine are pronounced the same.
There's nothing more disappointing than a dull opening statement.... For a trial like this they need the person to be ON POINT! Way too much dithering and Ums!
Exactly 💯
Not dull at all. She told the story and that’s what counts. It was like watching dateline😊
@@trishkuhne550 definitely not like watching Dateline! 😩
The judge literally just said Myspace at the 5:00 mark🤣
A bit behind the times! 😬
He's an older gentleman, lol
I listened five times and didn’t hear him mention MySpace. 🤔
time for the judge to update his jury instructions.
Uhmm...smack my lips......ugh
This prosecutor did an abysmally terrible job of explaining these victims and their connections to the jury. I despise when prosecutors continuously jump around because they forget to mention details. This should not be a slew of umms and ahs trying to remember what to say next, but a rote memorization of the story and delivered as if you had actually rehearsed it. Given there are so many victims, I would have expected a much more organized delivery than what was presented.
You got to listen to the hall trail
Before makeing a statement like this
Why don’t you just figure it out yourself then
@@chumchum4393 Yes, I’m sure that’s exactly what you tell a jury who isn’t allowed to look up outside information on a case.
Sounds like they're going for guilt by association.
he didn't pull the tiger he just planned helped move bodies and watched as his father and brother murder everyone that family
@@queenofdontcare6123 True, but I stil think the opening statement was piss poor. I love watching trials and that one wasn't really compelling
@@queenofdontcare6123 You have to present it in way that's gonna grab the jury, not confuse them or put them to sleep. I have seen some lawyers tell a compelling story in their statement. It can be done.
@@PrincessPattyPumpkin ar times it did seem as though she couldn't get her thoughts together. Her repeated use of the filler word "um" was annoying along with the lip smacking from time to time. The information that she did give was jarring. It's baffling that people have this mindset inside them!
Um would be tolerable if she got some fire I. In her opening..a mother being executed while nursing...babies covered in blood, the innocence of the the victims. She should study Jodie Arias prosecutor'sopening or Kathy Fegler ?)
Aw George and tabitha named their kid bovine wow poor kid ridiculous name
Please work on “um” issue….public speaking hazard. Good prosecutor.
This prosecutor needs to be locked up for that opener. I mean like like that's a felony right there.
You’re weird
Its hard to believe that someone would name a child Bovine but yet here they are. Smh!
You need to remember these people are Ohio hillbillies..homeschooling by their crazy controlling mother, she probably named the child. If I had to guess she probably thought this plan all out,and made her sons do it.
It's scary to know how low the bar is set for people allowed to make life altering decisions for others.
My question is if Jake and the mom confuss to the murders why are Ed and Billy fighting the case why don't they plead out to life and save the family from the trail
I agree. It's just so cruel to put this poor family through such a trial.
Why? Because they are selfish monsters who have no thought or compassion for anyone other than themselves. JMO
Umm stop saying that 😐
THANKYOU for the opening and all the hard work from all the smart ppl who cracked this case Dedication here
This family reminds me the movie Deliverance.
Lol where their from the whole town is straight outta deliverance. Matter of fact dueling banjos is their community battle song.
If she don’t saying “ummm” uma scream 😱!!!!! She is making the case weak!!!! Somebody save her
I don't think the umm's are as bad as the and's.
She left out Kenneth Rhoden when doing each person's profile. 🙁
I noticed😮😢
why did it take so long to arrest them?
they had all the evidence they needed almost from day one after the murders.
What evidence did they have on day one that it was the Wagner family who were responsible for this horrific loss of life? There was no Wagner DNA left at any of the scenes.
Can we start a petition to ask the judge to make her collect her thoughts and stop with the ummms and ands!!
Anybody who has previously watched proceedings leading up to this trial know that the "uhm" thing isnt new lol but this has been a very long time coming!

Bovine? Really?
It's actually Bolvine, but that doesn't make it any less weird. I like Ruger, though.
I thought Dana was on her phone and Hannah may was nursing her Baby when they were killed only Chris Jr was sleeping in that residence
Bovine

THE REASON THEY DON'T HAVE A CONSTANT DIAGRAM OF EVERYONE IN THIS CASE UP WHERE THE JURORS CAN SEE IT IS....THEY ONLY HAD 6 YEARS TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER. SHEEEESH!!! ITS NOT ENOUGH TIME.
I had to back it up to make sure I heard Bolvine right.... that's just mean
I think it's Bulvine actually
Hard to listen to this with all of the ,"Ummm,'s" Wow. It is annoying.
Prosecutor isn't well prepared and I don't understand why?. It's a big case and they couldn't find someone experienced?
What a tragedy!
Prosecutor is a rambler which is sad since it’s such a evil tragic mass murder 💔
Attorney is not a great speaker but she is so thorough I feel like I was there. She set it up well😊
She ends up doing a brilliant job. I can only imagine how stressful that opening statement would be with international, televised attention.
I'm surprised at how negative all the comments are about this opening statement. I think she does fine, considering how complicated the case is!
Wow! Finally someone who’s feels like I do. Imagine trying to put ALL THAT EVIDENCE in a story people can follow and understand.. i an hour 1/2… she did a damn good job I think
I agree! I think she did an excellent job of explaining such a complex case.
She's a poor public speaker. Besides all the um's she rambles around and jumps back and forth. It's like she's speaking off the cuff instead of a rehearsed opening statement. In the end, I don't think it will matter when his brother and mother testify against him.
@@klondikebelridge1996
I agree that it will likely all come down to Angela & Jakes testimony, however, I was easily able to follow along with the opening statement. Its not an easy case, is it!? Its *extremely* complex & pretty much most of the whole world's eyes were on her in a court of law and a Jury hanging onto her every word. (or so they should be!)
I know it's her job, & yes, I'm sure she gets paid well to do it, but please, let's give her a break.
