Yes, please take it to the airport….could you do the European airline sizers if available at your airport? 🙏🏼 I may fly ItaAirlines or Lufthansa or one of those from Athens to Rome.
I would love to know how the expandable compares to the carry-on plus. What’s the advantage and disadvantages of going with expandable vs. carryon plus. Love your content!!!
Thank you so much for this video. I have been considering a Monos carry on expandable but wasn't sure about how it worked or how it would be an advantage - now I know! Buying it TODAY!
I agree -- I would love to see Lauren try to fit the expandable carry-on in multiple airline sizers, while the expansion zipper is not being used, since the unexpanded bag is now slightly deeper than the original Monos carry-on. I assume that once the expansion zipper is unzipped and the bag is packed to full capacity, it would have to be checked.
I am leaving for a trip for dubai and JFK and you have validated why I regret the luggage with the front zipper! It takes away so much more space you can optimize. And anything full in that pocket makes it difficult to zip up. I was looking at your previous mono comparison video and i really enjoyed how much more space you can fit your shoes in the zip up section. Now that they have an expandable version. This may be an option to consider. For anybody researching. The front zip pocket isnt as useful as I thought it would be, looks cool but yeah i need more space lol. Thanks for this video!
Completely agree with you on the front zip pocket not being as useful. When I purchase the Pro last year, I didn't realize at the time it has less volume (36L) than the normal carry-on (39-40L). Front pocket is cool but definitely not worth the sacrifice of packing space.
@@meldajeanphotographyfilm3543I got both to see which one I liked better and I sent the pro back I didn’t like the fact that the outside pocket took so much space from the inside
So happy to see you review this. I looked for your review when they first came out and thought how can I know if I need to buy without a Lauren review? I bought the expandable blue. Now to watch and see if it was a good buy.
Love this video, Lauren…I love Monos as well and have their carry on but have been waiting for an expandable version! Would love to see it in an airport sizer along with the regular carry on (especially Air Canada, if you have one). I hope that extra 1/4 inch won’t make a difference. Thanks!
I thought about taking them to the sizers but we got in trouble the last time we did that and filmed it. With as much as I travel, I don’t want to get in trouble at my airport 😂
Oh, I get that! No one wants to be on the blacklist! 😂. We’ll just have to wait until you travel with it. I’m thinking that extra 1/4 “ will be fine and that Monos, hopefully, would know better 🤞🏼
I'm not in the market for an expandable bag but I love your videos, Lauren. As a lady whom is also from Detroit, I gotta support my favorite travel influencer! 😉 I'm only 5 feet tall and almost 58 years old, so lightweight luggage and not overpacking is key for me. I'm committed to carry-on only. I love my July Light (non-expandable) or my Heys Astro carry-on, along with a small backpack. I just recently ordered the Nomad Lane Ikigai backpack during their 50% off sale. I love it and I'm going to pair it with my July Light when I go to Fiji this October! Again, love your videos Lauren!
Love your dedication for showing real world packing. I read somewhere where a flight attendant said if you expand an expandable bag, pack it, close it, then sit on it (or push it right hard) you can usually then close the expandable zipper and have it packed without expanding it so it will fit the size requirements. I've never tried this so don't know if it's true.
Hi this is great. I haven't been watching the channel lately and today I returned ND learned monos expandsssss great. It took me a min to get used to no expansion. I'll stick with my no expansion
I've been looking for an expandable carry on for christmas markets this winter!! Carry On going over and check it with the christmas goodies in it coming home!! Thank you for this video - just ordered one!! Woohoo!!
Although I pack pretty tight, travel requires options, and this is a biggie. I had a time or two whereby I tossed something kind of old to make room for something unplanned but amazing on a trip. So I'm glad they're providing that option. I saw a really nice cognac brown (vs chocolate) suitcase once, and I think that could be a great color. Thanks for another wonderful comparison in real life.
Wish this video came out yesterday as Monos had a discount code going on but really appreciate you making this video along with all of your other amazing videos. I purchased the Pro last year mainly due to the selling point of the front tech compartment but quickly regretted it as the additional packing space was really missing. I'm a bigger guy so my cloths are generally in the XL sizing along with size 12 shoes -- I can make it work for a 3-4 day trip during the summer but packing with winter cloths are nearly impossible with the Pro. Saw your other video (thank you for making that video) that the Plus fits in most domestic US airlines so I purchased the Hybrid Carry-On Plus yesterday. After seeing this video, I'm def interested in the Expandable Carry-On as it's closer to the carry-on size of 22x14x9 but can expand when it's necessary.
I am debating between the hybrid carryon plus and this new regular expandable…going on a Mediterranean cruise next year. We’ll be in Europe for a total of 14 days…need the best carry on!
@@ruthNcouth I was going back and forth yesterday for about 2 hours on which one to get -- I was in between the Carry-On Plus, Hybrid Carry-On Plus and Expandable Carry-On. I ultimately choose the Hybrid Carry-On Plus because I wanted something bigger than the 22x14x9 carry-on dimension (The Kellys were amazing in doing the video that showed the Plus will fit most US airlines), the built looks great, the latch system instead of zippers and there was a deal going on with Monos. Since I will be using this for domestic US travel the majority of the time, the Plus was a no brainer for me but I would say if you were planning International travel, the regular expandable might be a better option as I think it's 22x14x9.8 dimension is much closer to the carry-on regulation than the Plus. Enjoy your vacation :)
Sweet Lauren! ❤ I had anxiously been waiting for this video…THANK YOU so much 😊. I am seriously considering the expandable as my best option for a Mediterranean cruise next year. If you take it to the airport, I’d like to see if it fits the European airline sizers without the expansion. I have a round trip flight from Dallas to Rome, but I have to fly from Athens to Rome probably Ita Airways or Lufthansa or Ryanair…I hear those are very strict with their carryon luggage size allowance. I appreciate your help ❤😅
Hi Lauren, I am a very inexperienced traveler, but I have been watching your videos in an effort to train myself not to overpack. I recently returned from a car trip to a funeral. Your video on packing for a wedding helped me. But, here is my cringy question. As you wear your clothes each day, how do you pack your dirty clothes for the return trip? Do you bring an empty compression cube to pack used underwear, socks, bra, etc? I used to just stuff everything into a laundry bag, but that was so bulky. It would be harder to close my suitcase for the return trip, even tho I had not added any purchases. Maybe I get sweatier than most people, but I wouldn't re-wear shirts and dresses more than once. I know, I need to explore Marino Wool clothing. Maybe I'll start with buying a tshirt and see if it is really resistant to odor. Thank you again for all your videos. I need to buy a new suitcase, because the old relic I am using is 10 lbs!!!
It would be great and better if monos pro design is similar to level 8 roadrunner. So that zip can be attached to TSA lock and it will make a more attractive look as well.
Great video, Lauren! I’d never buy a pro either! I do like the idea of the expansion for all the shopping opportunities we come across!! Like the time I bought a huge peacock in Las Vegas haha
hoping to have a carry on plus that is expandable as well! i have a bad back so i always check in anyways. but prefer the biggest carry on i can buy for ease of commuting when on my destination. brought a medium before and it was a nightmare😮
Great Video, as you implied, shame about the lack of imagination colour wise! (As with their hybrid cases). Great to see how much extra can fit though!
Wait I’m just seeing this video! If I purchase a backpack using your link, do you still receive commission for it? Your videos have been so helpful so want to make sure I’m using your link/code!
Thank you for the review. I see the ask and answer for expandable hardsided luggage, but I wonder does the flexibility of the middle expansion area compromise the stability of the bag? I hope someone reviews the rollability of the regular vs the expanded luggage.
I am very excited when I first heard about this expandable carry-on. Unfortunately, the color selection is too boring. Looking forward to a more firing color selection.
I don’t have the trunk, but I have one for the hybrid carry on. I’d imagine my thoughts would be similar, and that I would like it. ua-cam.com/video/BdiWG6Wgxr0/v-deo.html

I apologize if this is a repeat question. Once fully expanded is the Monos Expandable carry on still a carry on or will it need to be checked on the way home?
It will all depend on the airline but more specifically the gate agent. I’ve almost always gotten away with it, but I don’t want to say it will always work. When expanded, it’s def too big, but don’t voluntarily check it :)
I saw your video comparing the monos and July hybrid 22x14x9 and you measured in person. The dimensions were slightly smaller than the web sight shows on the Monos. was wondering if you might me willing to measure the monos hybrid plus in person to see if those in person measurements might also be slightly different than what the website shows. I am trying to decide between these Monos and the Monos Plus and hoping that the hybrid plus measurements are slightly smaller than the website states also which would make me feel a bit more comfortable with purchasing the hybrid plus. Any chance you could help me out the in person measurements of the hybrid plus?
@@ItsTheKellys Thank you for the feedback! You do mention the weight and volume of the hybrid carry-on and hybrid carry-on plus but did not mention your personal measurements on those 2 pieces. If you come across the measurements for the hybrid carryon on plus I’d be much obliged. You are so unbelievably through in all your video, I truly appreciate having you be a virtual part of my luggage search journey! Do you happen to have current discount code? And one final question…what is the highest percentage that you see in a Mono’s sale and any guess as to when their biggest discounts are? Trying to decide if I should wait another 3 months till thanksgiving.
Going by your experiences with both sizer racks and international airport personnel, how much more likely do you think the added depth of the expandable model will ding you with a majority of international airline companies than with the original carry on?
I think I’m weird. I hate zippers and I don’t want expendable bags-I don’t want to be encouraged to buy or pack more crap. Except for that Briggs and Riley. That interests me except for the zips.
If you were to travel with the expandable carry-on without expanding it and then fly back with the expansion on (with your scenario of putting a jacket, rug and blanket in it), wouldn't it be an issue with the airlines not accepting it as a carry-on as it will be well over the limit?
Sometimes, yes. If I ever have to check a bag (because of that) I will only do it on the way home. Just because if I don’t get it upon arrival, it will still make it to my home at some point. But I will still go all the way to the gate with it like that, and it’s usually accepted.
Finally! Monos has made expandable luggage! What colors would you like to see in the future?
