Would love some insight on how you prep your seeds / germination. Attempting foxtails here in Florida and wondering how many washes you recommend and the best way to jump start them before they end up on the community pot (great idea thanks for sharing that knowledge on the roots and the clay pebbles as well)!
so I collected a few of these seeds while walking my dog (I'm in south FL) and before soaking them, I pried off the black fibrous coating like I would a coconut palm before planting. did I mess up lol? now that I'm looking for info, I see everyone is leaving it on
My foxtail palm seeds weren’t sprouting so I have soaked them in a baggie with water for over a month and I just planted them in a pot, They should still be viable so I hope they sprout
Hi. just to say great blogs. One question as your foxtails grow, do you still keep them in coco coir & perlite or do you include other types of soil? Also what fertilizer is best I have been using Palm Focus.
malcuser1950 yes coco coir and perlite a lot of palm fertilizers don’t exist here in Ontario so I use an organic miracle gro 3:1:2 fertilizer and fish emulsion
Wow… are you growing these in Canadian weather?? 😳
Best part about Foxtails is they self-shed their fronds. Just watch out below! lol

Did check out some older videos? I show many ideas of different seeds including foxtail.

Best luck I’ve had and most is leaving the seed alone once out of the fruit

They should sprout at 92-95f in a week if not there no good. Thanks for watching
My foxtail seeds sprouted last month and they have healthy roots but they are very slow on growing the top growth of the palm
That is normal. They take root first. It will be fine in time
My fox tail palm seeds still had the fruit on them should I peel off the flesh? Or should I leave it
It’s neat they don’t tangle in the community pot
Wanna Be Tropics they will eventually but not for a while. If each seedling of any kind has their own pot space would be gone. It’s too much
Hi. just to say great
blogs.
One question
as your foxtails grow, do you still keep them in coco coir & perlite or do
you include other types of soil? Also what fertilizer is best I have been using
Palm Focus.
malcuser1950 thanks. Yes coco coir and perlite is all use and a miracle gro slow release 3:2:3 which has worn kasting and kelp works great
malcuser1950 yes coco coir and perlite a lot of palm fertilizers don’t exist here in Ontario so I use an organic miracle gro 3:1:2 fertilizer and fish emulsion
what kind is it exactly. there are different types thanks
It's wodyetia bifurcata only one kind
Do you sell your palms?
Thanks dear
Will these grow pretty well in the upper midwest using thermal devices for the winter?
lextacy2008 if you mean grow indoors yes. Outdoors no. Southern Florida only for foxtails
I bought some fox tail palm seeds and they arrived cold, Do you think they’ll still sprout if I keep them warm enough?
Good question. Most times I ordered seeds like that were during the cooler months had didn’t have a problem if they are fresh
Get them on bottom heat to 92-95f and if there hood seeds you should see sprouts in 2 weeks. Wodyetia are usually easy and hardy
What happened to your green bottle of beer,!,,,is that a pineapple that I see you have plantedL
Do they grow fast or slow
Fast
What's the purple-grey palm in the pot next to the community pot?
Edward Granville bismarkia nobilis
@@RobBoryckiGolf Nice! never saw them this small
